A bar and restaurant and resort right on the Wisconsin river. Beautiful view from the deck and there is a campground right next door if you want to do that. The food is ok but not great and the service is slow even on an off day like the Monday we were there for lunch. The woman bartender saves the day by helping out the only server on the outside patio area. She was great but couldn't speed up the slow kitchen even for simply food like burgers. Getting help is tough for every restaurant so why not make it faster with a order at the bar format? Move the kitchen closer to the dining area? Grill food outside by the deck? Things are not going to get better in the near future so restaurants need to change. Still nice being outside and having a beer and enjoying a nice summer day. Just be prepared for a wait. read more

This was hands-down the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Super creamy and flavorful, and the chicken topping was delicious. And only $12! ($10 without protein.) The soup options were also unique and delicious--Asian Beef and Reuben. The Philly cheesesteak and turkey bacon sandwich were also pretty good. Loaded tots were okay...probably wouldn't order them again. Service wasn't very good. It took a long time for the waitress to take our drink order, and it also took a long time to get the bill after we finished our meal. Waitress forgot to put in our appetizer order, so it wasn't served until after we received our entrees. We were also charged for 1 bowl of soup and 1 cup even though there were only cups available at the salad bar. (We did order a bowl, that's true, but bowls weren't available so we both had a cup.) This is partly on us; we didn't want to wait around even longer to have the check altered. Overall, this was a good experience. We'll be back next time we're in Spring Green. read more

This was a first time here. It was really crowded for a Tuesday lunch group which was fine. We were Lucky to get a window seat. I had the Chicken wrap and my other half had chicken tenders. Both were very good. The waitress was very friendly and we will go back again. read more

We had dinner here the other night. I would give it 3 stars for food, and 5 for the view, so I am averaging to 4. We had the stinky burger, which was very tasty. We also had a cheeseburger with cheese curds. In my naivety I didn't expect them to be deep fried. Our 7 year old daughter had the pizza and ate it all. read more

We had lunch here when we got into town. Quite good! My dad was delighted to find a BLT on the menu, which is increasingly rare these days, and this one was made with lots of crisp bacon. I enjoyed my philly cheesesteak, and my mom liked her fajita panini. Very friendly and personable service from our waitress Sydney. This place was huge inside so lots of room to social distance, but there was patio seating too (we didn't because it was full sun st the time). Went for lunch on a Wednesday. Waitress never took drink orders, so gave them to her when she came to take food order. Waited 35 minutes and no drink. Went to the bar inside to see if I could get my drink there with no luck. Bartender was rude and said I would have to wait. I've already waited now 45 minutes. We decided to cancel our food order. The bartender then came out to our table apologizing for the wait and offered us our food at half price. We declined. I told her if she would've been half that nice when I asked about my drink we may not have canceled our food order. The world is upside down and all businesses are short staffed, we understand. But when your rude to people, all bets are off. read more

One of my favorite things we did this past weekend. We had theatre tickets, and asked around where to eat beforehand. Wow! Beautiful view-ate outside by the river. Great service. Hubby loved the burger, and my Chipotle Ranch salad was amazing. Best place we ate during our 3 days in WI. read more

My group spent a fair amount of time here while staying at the campground due to alternating periods of stifling heat and thunderstorms. The bar is large and seems to have a mix of campers, locals, drinkers, and families. The river view is lovely when it's not pouring, and there are games, TVs, and music to keep you entertained. Prices aren't too bad, and the food was fine. I didn't particularly care for my pulled pork sandwich (it was definitely more of the stewed in a crockpot variety with some considerable globs of fat that hadn't rendered at the lower temperature/should have been trimmed off), but it was only $7. Service at the bar was hard to come by - they didn't have enough bartenders for the crowd, and those that were working were definitely more invested in chatting with their friends/cute girls in their age bracket than serving us. That said, it was nice to have a respite from the not-so-great outdoors. If I lived in the area it wouldn't be a bad stop for a drink or two when the weather cooperates, but I wouldn't make it a dinner destination. read more

Shifflet's Bar and Riverside Grille is just a small part of a larger operation, the Wisconsin Riverside Resort. The Resort includes camping, canoe, and tube rentals on the beautiful Wisconsin River. The restaurant was recently rebuilt and revamped to accommodate a much larger kitchen and dining area, complete with a banquet hall for weddings and private parties. The variety in the menu is perfect to satisfy someone popping in barefoot off the river for a quick beer and burger, a Friday night fish fry goer, or a carnivore looking for a good steak. The wraps are great and the philly cheese steak is unforgettable (made with shaved prime rib). All this overlooking one of the most beautiful views of the Wisconsin River I have ever seen. Large windows behind the bar and a spacious outdoor patio for dining offer the perfect view of a sunset on the water or canoers at lunch time. Fish-fry-Fridays bring regulars and folks visiting - and they're good, more in a "reminder of church basement fried fish eaten family style off of cafeteria dishes" style-sense than exceptional, food-wise. Lots to look at, scenery and fish-tanks included. Worth a visit if you're already in the area - just don't let your expectations get out of hand. Staying in the area for 3 nights with my boyfriend from Chicago. We went to various restaurants over our stay. This was by leaps and bounds the best! Food was the best around here. Try the "Stinky Burger" with garlic, blue cheese, and french fried onions. It was fantastic. The views of the sunset over the river were absolutely breathtaking, and even though the bar was pretty busy with families and kids playing games, our table on the other side of the partition was quiet. The Riverside Resort was remodeled a few years back. When it was just the bar the food was outstanding. However once the remodel was completed the food suffered in quality, the service was not that good and it seemed to me that they just didn't care to please their guests.
