Bottom: Toro Toro Roll I don't remember what the top roll was

The food was delicious!! I loved the nigiri & the toro toro roll. I've never had a roll like the toro toro before! The combination of the toro, truffle oil and pickled radish was just perfect! And I loved the Kobe beef nigiri! The service was pretty slow. When we got seated, they asked if we could finish within 45 mins for the next reservation & we said yes. The rolls took more than 30 mins to come out. So we did our best to finish quickly. The vibe of the restaurant is dimmed lights, dark inside to have this romantic feel. They were playing EDM music kind of loud!

Perfectly made jalapeño spicy roll....Phenomenal to the last bite.....I want more

The service was friendly and welcoming. The rolls were awesome. As a bonus they had Japanese beer on draft and the saki was delicious. Like any other high quality sushi establishemt you must be willing the pay the price. In other words "You Get What You Pay For". Would definitely want to eat here again.

Shino Sushi + Kappo really impressed me--super fresh fish, beautiful presentation, and a calm, intimate vibe. You can tell everything is made with care, and the quality is top tier. We made reservations just a day ahead, and it filled up fast--definitely a popular spot! Next time, I'd love to sit at the counter to watch the chefs in action. Every dish that came to our table felt special and thoughtfully prepared. The uni and seasonal sashimi were definite standouts! Lots of umami with every bite/sip. Service was friendly and very attentive. The whole experience felt relaxed yet elevated--perfect for date night or catching up with friends over excellent sushi and a solid sake selection, all without the trendy hype. I'll absolutely be back!

Have been here a few times- made reservations the day before for 6pm on a weekend and have not had any problems. The sushi here is very fresh! We've gotten a variety of things each time, but we always always get the toro toro roll ($29)! It's a bit expensive for a roll but soooo good and so worth it! There is plentiful negitoro and the crispy garlic pieces are so good. The tuna don ($32) has a lot of tuna pieces and comes with miso soup which is nice. We've also gotten several of the sashimi combos and those were also very good. We also usually get a bottle of sake and the prices are reasonable in my opinion. Overall, service is always very good and we always leave satisfied.

Great sushi spot we found while staying in San Diego. The sushi was good and service was great. Staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a large sushi bar area and ample seating, but outside area. We ordered some appetizers, Agedashi tofu, Gyoza, and Seaweed salad. They were all good, but especially liked the tofu with its lightly crisped skin, soft texture and sauce. We ordered the Albacore, Spider, Rainbow, Caterpillar, and Heat wave rolls. All were fresh and sushi size was very good. Overall, a great experience. Happy Nom Nom!

Our hotel was near by and this was open late. We weren't expecting much but it was one of the best sushi places we have been to in a while! The fish was incredibly fresh, melt in your mouth and the waitress who served us made excellent recommendations. A hidden gem. It is a smaller restaurant with high ceilings so it can get loud. Reservations are highly encouraged.

Came back here to give it a second try (first time was solid, not my favorite place and I felt like everything tasted fairly similar but fresh sushi) and enjoyed it a lot more this time! Servers were kind and attentive even on a busy Friday night. The San Diego roll was great, and the miso soup was also a hit. Cozy spot with fresh fish and classic options

Loved this place. The salmon nigiri was spot-on. Super fresh and had that melt-in-your-mouth quality that makes you really want to savor each bite. The agedashi tofu did not disappoint either. The interior space is cool and artsy. Love the modern vibe alongside the sushi bar.

First time here in a while. We got three rolls. The Delmar the Heat Wave in Spicy tempura. The Delmar was amazing. Definitely try the Rice lager. Lite delicious. Trinity was so friendly and knowledgeable She recommended an amazing saki . We will start to frequent more often. Chill vibe amazing service Solid sushi

I've only been here twice and the first time I came was not impressed but last night, everything was absolutely amazing! We sat at the sushi bar right in front of Tom, who is awesome and so sweet and he prepared some of the most amazing sashimi and nigiri's For us. Sitting at the sushi bar is my favorite and I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys the interaction with the chef. We started with the jalapeño Hamachi and also had the Toro Toro roll, salmon nigiri, the spicy Hamachi roll, and ended off with the fatty o-toro roll which is the belly/fattiest part of toro. WOW so amazing and everything melted in our mouthes! The quality of the fish here is unmatched. So fresh and so delicious.

Walked in and found a seat at the bar. The staff was very professional and attentive. Sushi chefs were not playing around. The Verry Belly Belly Sashimi was wonderful. The roll did not disappoint. Great little date spot.... I will be back.

Fun spot! We made a reservation for 4 and got a nice corner table in the 2nd dining room. Our server was fantastic and provided us some of her fav's and gave us the scoop on the saki selection. We had everything from starters, to rolls to sashimi and even a roll that wasn't on the menu. Top quality sushi and priced well within the expected for SD. I mean you're right next to the ocean :) I was so hypnotized by the sushi I only took a few pics.

First up was this sushi roll crowned with what can only be described as a crispy fried veggie nest -- like someone built a little golden bird's nest of crunch and gently placed it on top of seared tuna and rice. Texture explosion in the best way. 10/10 presentation, 10/10 "wait, how do I even eat this" moment. Then came the sashimi board and honestly it looked like art. Torched fish, silky salmon, deep ruby tuna, all fanned out on this gorgeous dark wood plank with little bowls of ponzu, soy, wasabi, and pickled ginger surrounding it like a color wheel. Every piece was clean, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth good. The salmon-topped roll situation (pictured mid-chopstick-action because we could NOT wait) was another highlight -- creamy, a little spicy, draped in silky salmon that basically slid right off the rice. We may have fought over the last piece. No regrets. And then dessert arrived with an actual lit candle stuck in the ice cream because it was a birthday, and my heart just melted a little (right along with the ice cream). Two scoops, warm caramel drizzle, a crispy little pastry stick, and a fudgy pool underneath -- simple but so comforting, like the kitchen knew exactly how to end the meal on a warm note. Beyond the food, it just felt like a place that cares -- good energy, thoughtful plating, and a staff that let us have our little candle moment without rushing us. If you're celebrating something (or just want to feel celebrated), go here. Bring people you love and an appetite, because you're gonna want to try everything on the table.

Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

We were first to enter and it was clear immediately that omakase is this restaurants institution; delicate lighting that highlighted the bar that separated diner and chef, clean lines everywhere, and just overall a beautiful place. The theme of Sushi MARU is truly attention to detail, and that extends from arrival, to service, to, of course, the food. Staff were incredibly attentive and easy to talk to, including the chefs. The food, I will comment on just generally as the menu is constantly changing (as is the case with many omakase): each dish was composed of pieces that complemented each other well and created a cohesive flavor pallette. Each nigiri was artfully prepared that emphased the quality and cut of the fish, and were complemented by flavors to further highlight that. The flow of the evening was non-traditional omakase, but it felt perfect. Price ($180pp) is not for the faint of heart, but is cheaper than others I've seen. Unlike several of the other Michelin guide or Michelin Star sushi establishments, they offer more than just Omakase. While the do offer Full Omakase for $189, Nigiri Omakase for $140, and Petite Omakase for $65, they also allow you to order nigiri, sashimi along with multiple other specials and cut rolls. On our first walk in experience, we ordered the Petite Omakase which included 4 seasonal dishes, 6 pieces of sushi, a light fish broth, and a small dessert, we also ordered some add-on sushi. On our first reservation here, we opted for the Full Omakase, which was absolutely amazing. This is meant to be opinionated criticism to help improve but I think the dishes could use more diversity and depth. Having done a fair share of omakase from places like Kinme and Matoi, I feel like this isn't that much more memorable or special and I'd hate for it to follow the same path Tadokoro did where they were absolutely my #1 choice and fell after they got their star (which they later lost). Both sushi chefs are super personable, very skilled, and they have rad knife skills! Service from the waitstaff was attentive yet unobtrusive. The restaurant is diminutive and consists primarily of the sushi bar with 10 seats and an attached patio dining area. They do have a small parking lot which is appreciated! The pacing was just right, and each course was presented simply yet beautifully. I truly enjoyed this experience and give it my highest possible accolades! I loved that we were able to taste test three different sakes before choosing, and the carafe of sake was perfect for two of us to enjoy with our meal. It was also fun to choose our own special sake cup/glass from Ichifuji's eclectic collection for the evening I truly enjoyed all of the 19!! courses but the chilled chawanmushi, king salmon & all the nigiri were my favorites. The sashimi champaloo came with 12 pieces of sashimi, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and the fish of the day was albacore. For rolls, we got the Luna Lemon, Maru's Sushi Toro, and Hamachi Hiro. The rolls were a good size and I loved how each had a fun twist (but at the same time not TOO crazy with their combinations like some other sushi places). You can tell it was designed with intention and each roll had a nice balance. The Luna Lemon roll was great with spicy tuna inside, salmon outside, and the soy dressing and shallot oil put it over the top. The Maru's Sushi - Toro roll looked so good in the photos so I knew we had to order it. The negitoro was delicious and did not disappoint. When you get to the hostess stand on ground level, she greeted us warmly and directed us to the elevator that would take us to Lumi. Once at the top, you're greeted by the Lumi staff to check you in. As you get to view the roof top, there are lots of tables, a strategically placed bar, some fireplace tables, comfortable seating, a live DJ, and beautifully done murals and deco. Very tasteful! The food was amazing and so fresh! If you don't like sushi, Lumi has a lot of dishes that would also accommodate your palette. Appetizers, sushi, and drinks were all great. Prices is a little high but keep in mind that you're also paying for the experience! The staff were all friendly and our host Becky was so sweet and attentive! She checked in on us regularly and gave us great recs! Highly recommend!

Don't miss out on Happy Hour as they have some pretty good deals on nigiri, sashimi, hand rolls, appetizers, sake and mini bowls. All the fish we had were fresh and everything was prepared nicely. They do not skimp on presentation here. Nigiri fish to rice ratio was perfect. We also got the Mixed Veggie and Shrimp Tempura, Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll and Salmon Skin Hand Roll but was not able to take a photo. They were all very good as well. It was probably the best salmon skin hand roll I've ever had and it was only $5 because of Happy Hour. We will be back for the sunday Omakase soon!

We ordered: -Deluxe sashimi mix: This was my absolute favorite item that we ordered. Every piece truly felt premium. It included tuna, salmon, albacore, and yellowtail, all of which were fresh and delicious. My favorites were the chef's choice pieces which made the upgrade worth it. The fresh wasabi paired perfectly with every bite. -Bara chirashi: This was hands down the most beautifully presented dish. I loved the balance between the sashimi and rice, so every bite had a great ratio of both. -Sashimi mix: This was also very good, but I'd recommend spending a little extra for the deluxe sashimi mix. The chef's choice selections really set it apart and justify the higher price. -Soft shell crab hand roll and eel hand roll: Unfortunately, these didn't hold up as well for takeout. I'm sure they'd be much better when enjoyed fresh at the restaurant. -Mixed shrimp and veggie tempura: Some of the pieces could have been cooked a bit longer. Overall, Ju-ichi really shines when it comes to its raw fish. The quality and freshness of the sashimi stood out, especially in the deluxe sashimi mix!
