Scallop Nigiri
Shawn P.

My new go-to sushi spot! If you blink you'll miss Nagisa tucked into a very busy Point Loma shopping center. With a modern, yet simple restaurant design, mood lighting and a very welcoming sushi bar, Nagisa is the perfect space to get your sushi/nigiri fix. I was blown away by the freshness of the Ceviche roll and the scallop nigiri. A very cool mexican fusion roll in a small bite, that packs a punch. Lemon juice took it yo a notch! Also loved that the rice and rolls are pre seasoned so definitely make sure to enjoy prior to your soy sauce dip! Will definitely be back soon! Run don't walk to check out Nagisa Sushi!

Food was pretty good. Service was not that great. They really need a hostess. The two servers were struggling to keep up. The food came out of the kitchen all wrong. So timing and spacing hasn't been completely figured out yet. I know they are a new restaurant. There's a probably a high chance your reservation could be late and you won't be sat on time. My mom's udon (her meal) came out before the appetizers (miso soup and chicken karaage). One of our rolls came out like 20 minutes after everyone was done eating. Apparently our roll got delivered to another table by accident, so we were waiting a while. The miso soup was standard, over priced. The udon, miso mushroom toast, Philly roll, ceviche roll, and chicken karaage were very good. I'm not sure what avocado mix was on the ceviche roll, it was not listed on the menu. Tasted like guac? Not sure. The hamachi nigiri was average. I would definitely come back and give this place a second chance. I think the servers were slammed and overworked, not necessarily their fault, but it definitely disrupted our dinner. They comped the ceviche roll since it came out way after we were done with everything else, so that's appreciated.

Nagisa Sushi had only been open for a month and a half when we dined there. We sat at the sushi bar and got to talk to the sushi chefs. The hot sake - good The miso soup - delicious The Wagyu Nigiri - a small piece and not good (chewy, I had to spit some out), though it's cool to watch them flame torch the Wagyu. Don't get it. Another special, Shime Sabe (vinegared mackarel) - I didn't like it. The Otoro- no The salmon belly - small, but exceptional!! Delicious! Probably one of the best I've ever tasted! They use a very small amount of rice on their nigiri, so the fish hangs off both ends of it. If I do go back, I would get the miso soup and 5 pieces of salmon belly! Nothing else.

local no frill sushi spot- easily was able to snag a counter spot on a Sunday night so we could watch the chefs at work! Fish is fresh and selection is good. I really like that they price by the piece of nigiri instead of 2 pieces. You can create your own set this way.

Nagisa Sushi is such a solid little neighborhood gem. Came in tonight and tried a good mix: bluefin tuna, yellowtail belly, gyu tataki, California roll, spicy tuna roll, and a ceviche roll. Everything tasted super fresh across the board, but I was honestly most pleasantly surprised by the spicy tuna roll. It's one of those items that can be hit or miss, and this one really delivered--fresh, well-balanced, and not overly drenched in sauce. The rice stood out too--it's a bit different from your typical sushi spot, slightly unique in texture and flavor, which actually made the whole experience more memorable. We sat at the sushi bar, which made the whole experience more fun and interactive. The sushi chef was really friendly, and our waitress was super nice and attentive without being overbearing--great service all around. The bluefin and yellowtail belly were clean and high quality, and the gyu tataki was a great switch-up from all the sushi. You can tell they care about their ingredients here. Overall, it's a nice, low-key neighborhood sushi spot that doesn't try too hard but still delivers where it counts. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm craving fresh fish without the fuss.

So happy this opened up so close to us. The inside is beautiful and we loved sitting at sushi bar. The sushi chef was amazing and kept food coming consistently all night. Every nigiri was amazing and he even gave us a few recommendations that we loved. There were two version of the scallop, seared and raw. Both versions were the best scallop nigiri we've ever had! Get as much chutoro and hotate as you can!

I made a reservation for the sushi bar and came on a weekend. I was surprised that it was as crowded as it was. There was lots of parking as it's located in the same parking lot as Grocery Outlet and Orange Theory. The menu is broken down into appetizers and salads, fried dishes, grilled dishes and finishing dishes as well as sushi and sashimi. So it's kinda of like a build your own omakase meal. I started with Hiya yakko or chilled soft tofu with chili crunch, green onion, bonito flakes and shoyu. The tofu was soft and fresh and the chili crunch and shoyu added a good flavor. Kinoko yaki, broiled mushrooms with miso butter was a surprisingly filling, and a large portion. Miso butter is a great compliment to mushrooms. I got the 7 piece sushi which came with unagi (freshwater eel), gindara (black cod), kurodai (Black Sea bream), madai (sea bream), zuke (soy marinated tuna), sake (ora king salmon) and hamachi (yellowtail). I then ordered umimasu (ocean trout), hotatte (scallop) and another salmon because they use Ora King salmon which is a very high quality salmon from New Zealand. I got the umimasu because it's not something that you usually see on too many sushi menus. It was like salmon but more mild and less fatty. The hotatte was sweet and had a mild crunch that I enjoyed very much. The fish was fresh and high quality, staff was friendly, there's lots of parking and tables inside as well as a small 8 person counter. I liked the variety of appetizers and fish. There's definitely more variety than your run of the mill roll type of restaurant. I'd say it was a good step up from a rolls type of place and maybe a way to work your way up to an omakase. If you're looking for a place that focuses on rolls, this ain't it. They do have some rolls but they are more fish focused.

Happy to have read and followed the Yelpers to this gem. Staying at the Hyatt Mission Bay. This was only a 4 min drive but I'd have driven further knowing what I know now. Newly opened in Dec '25. Hajime was my sushi chef at the bar and so very accommodating and friendly. The entire staff were welcoming and very thorough in describing the menu and making suggestions. Now to the good stuff! I had the Shime Saba-vinegared mackerel, sunomono salad, hotate-scallop, ceviche roll, and hamachi-yellow tail. Most were single pieces except the roll. I usually dip in soy sauce or ponzu, but all of the sashimi was so delicious as it was served nothing else was needed. Very fresh and very simple presentations. No need for fancy or messy garnish/sauces. The fish was fresh and delicious all on its own. They also have sake flight that I may be back for! The atmosphere is so pleasant and relaxing. There was music playing in a low volume--was not blasting as often happens at restaurants which makes conversations difficult. All the customers seemed to be satisfied and engaged with each other and the staff. Such a pleasant dinner experience. Well done, Nagisa!

Service was definitely a 5. Our waitress was lovely, as was the host, and the sushi chefs. If you're going for a welcoming vibe, and you have unlimited money to spend on nigiri and sashimi, this is the spot for you. The fish is yummy- nothing out of this world, but definitely solid. A bit expensive for the quality and size in my opinion, but I also like to leave dinner feeling full if I'm spending $80+. Drinks are also quite pricey. For apps, we had edamame, cucumber salad and the karaage. All delicious- wish the karaage had come with a sauce, but the chicken was fire. We tried a few of the 7 piece nigiri sets- good fish, but small cuts. The rainbow roll was beautifully presented, but the crab inside tasted very one dimensional to me. The shrimp tempura roll looked more boring, but was super tasty. Overall, a nice spot, but I'm not sure if I'll go back again if I'm paying for myself.

BEST service, Olivia was our waitress. We have never experienced this kind of treatment that we did today.. I have been to many sushi restaurants but this restaurant stands out I definitely recommend coming here. Everyone was welcoming. Thank you all

Nagisa Sushi has opened in the Midway Town Center in Point Loma where I believe a former Hawaiian eatery used to be located. The inside has been refurbished with dark tones and a central sushi bar to create an elegant and upscale ambiance. There were two sets of tables, one to the left that extended down towards the restrooms and one to the right across from the sushi bar. I would say about 40 customers could be seated including the eight chairs at the bar. The menu was spread across three pages, one of which was replicated on a chalkboard hanging on separate walls with the 21 choices of nigiri. They were sold a la carte as one piece or as a set of five ($32) and a set of seven ($42). Appetizers, salads, fried dishes, grilled dishes, Shime, sashimi, and makimono rolls were the categories on the other two pages. What struck me was the simplicity of the menu which did not have photos. I did not notice an omakase offering, however I wonder if that may be added in the future. For my meal, I started with the Kanitama Roll from the makimono section. Snow crab legs, Japanese cucumber, egg, and mayo were the components of this eight-piece roll. The freshness of the snow crab was evident when I bit into the first piece. None of this imitation crab filler as this was the real deal although the pieces were on the small side. I then ordered five pieces of nigiri. The Otoro was sold out which meant I couldn't sample the fattiest tuna cut. * Madai (sea bream) * Zuke (marinated tuna) * Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) * Hotate (giant scallop) * Gindara (black cod) The fishes were already marinated, therefore soy sauce was not offered unless requested. You had to trust the chef's skills to create each piece with the appropriate umami. Not many sushi restaurants in the SD area do this. The black cod was torched to impart a smoky flavor which was my favorite of the bunch. The quality of the fishes was very good so no complaints there. There were some ups and downs with my server who was fairly new as you could tell by her tentativeness. Overall, I gave a 4.5 star rating for my dinner at Nagisa Sushi.

The restaurant has a very quiet and calm atmosphere. I visited at 6 PM with my 5-year-old, who was a bit cranky. We felt a bit out of place, as the sushi chefs behind the counter gave us cold stares and were quite unwelcoming. On the other hand, the reception and servers were very friendly and professional. As for the sushi, it was fairly average, though the Nodoguro and Engawa were delicious. I was also impressed by the owner, who was working very hard.

New date spot alert! Nestled in the Midway Town Center you will find Nagisa Sushi. The place is cozy and very welcoming. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with smiles and transported to a calm place. We got there at 5:30 and sat at the sushi counter and had a great conversation with the chef! The menu is simple and not filled with too many items, these are my favorite menus because you know the food that is on it will be really good. We tried sunomono ( cucumber salad), gyu tataki ( seared wagu salad) me kyabetsu ( fried Brussel sprouts) chicken karaoke, nasu cheese ( fried eggplant with cheese) ika maruyaki ( Japanese flying squid) 7 piece nigiri, 3 rolls: the kanitama ( snow crab), the negishiro ( white fish) and the futomaki ( shrimp) and 5 piece uni . Of course we paired it all with a few Orion beers ( on tap might I add) All the food is fresh and melts in your mouth. The chicken karaage was fresh and so tender. The cucumber salad was a great opened because it is so fresh, I think my favorite has to be the negishiro roll and the uni. The Negishiro roll was on a whole other level the lemon gave it a zest, reminded me of ceviche. We will be going back, there are other rolls we want to try! If you are in the area stop by so you can experience fresh food in a beautiful establishment.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!

Tasty Lobster Roll, Just Needs a Little More…read more Wicked Maine Lobster at Liberty Station Public Market serves up a really delicious lobster roll. It sticks to the traditional style, letting the lobster flavor shine, which I appreciate. The lobster itself has good flavor and is well prepared, making it a satisfying bite. That said, it's just missing a little something that would push it into 5-star territory. The portion size is still considerably small, especially for the price, so it can feel a bit expensive for what you get. Even with that, the flavors are definitely there, and it's still worth trying if you're in the market and craving a lobster roll. Parking is fairly easy as there's a large lot across the street from the restaurant. We arrived right when they opened and were the first in line! The Mira Mesa location always has such a long line so I was a little surprised to put in our orders so fast. Maybe not as many people know about this location. When we walked in, I immediately noticed an unusual smell inside. Nothing like seafood that's been sitting out for too long but more like weird cleaning chemical smells. At least all of the seating is outdoors (some shaded) so you don't have to endure those smells. I ordered the Spicy Salmon and Pearl Harbor. The salmon was solid and I thought the fish quality was good. The sauce is similar to a spicy mayo and I didn't think it had much of a kick. The Pearl Harbor is tuna with a sweet, thick sauce (hoisin maybe?). I've had this flavor before at the other location but for some reason, it tasted off here. Also, the tuna didn't have that bounce of a fresh fish. Overall, salmon was good but maybe they were having an off day for the tuna. Hopefully it's not a recurring issue because I really want them to succeed. They're my favorite poke place in San Diego!

Reservations were easy to make via Open Table, even the same day (but it might be later than usual dinner time). Outdoor seating was the only option available so don't forget to bring a jacket because evenings can be a little brisk/cool. We started our meal with drinks (I had the Tiramisu-tini which tasted a lot like tiramisu & wasn't too strong. We shared the beef carpaccio which was tender & tasty. The fun part of Cesarina's menu is being able to choose your pasta shape & pasta. One of my friends chose rigatoni with vodka sauce with burrata & my other friend chose steak that comes with bone marrow. I chose one of the fresh ravioli of the day (sausage, ricotta & burrata) with a mushroom truffle sauce. It was the perfect portion & I shared a few bites with my friends & we all agreed that it was delicious! You gotta have dessert & they are famous for their deconstructed tiramisu which is assembled tableside which we ordered & we also got the deconstructed cannoli that you fill yourself. The tiramisu was our favorite & is famous for a reason. Definitely get it for dessert! Service is warm & helpful.
