Friendly customer service. My friend and I didn't feel uncomfortable or sense any snobbery that is expected from a lot of stores located on the designer store side of the mall. My friend liked the watches but I'm more interested in handbags. I was impressed with the quality and feel of the leather purses. The purses were beautiful, functional, and the leather was buttery soft. The prices were very reasonable as well. I will seriously consider Shinola for my next handbag purchase. read more

They brought me water while I waited and in less than 5 minutes, I was wearing my beautiful new watch. Nice displays, stunning products. This wasn't my first Shinola item. I ordered a wallet for my husband 18 months ago, its supposed to be a buy it for life product. The leather has torn and when I wrote to Shinola to request a replacement, they suggested I pay them 125$ to repair the product they shoddily made. Decided to come here to get the watch battery replaced for my hubby's watch. I am not used to watches that don't wind themselves perpetually. I should ask if they make such a watch here at all. This is second time we have had to replace the watch and it's a nuisance since it's not something you can easily do yourself at all. There are videos, but not something my husband wants to take on at all. The Troy location is more convenient, since there's a parking lot dedicated for the stores. We bought the watch at the D location. Notifications go to an email, it's automated when it's complete. The staff were able to look up our name to get info about the battery from our Detroit trip at least $25 for the watch battery and takes a half hour. You can pay when you drop off or when you pick up the watch when it's done. The watch was done in a half hour as estimated. Pick up at one location and then the front staffer had to have someone else take me to a wall register to cash me out. He told the previous customer he can't leave the front at all. read more

Service SUCKS!! I dropped off my watch for a repair on Dec 08 of 2025. The man said I should have it back in 2 weeks. On Dec 24, I received an email saying the watch had just arrived at the repair center. I called to find out why it was so far behind and was told the Somerset store sat on my watch for an unknown reason for 15 days. The man at customer support agreed to send the watch back to me at no shipping charge due to the store's error. Today, Jan 06, I received another email saying my watch had just arrived at the repair facility. When I called and spoke to another man, all he could say was 'my timeline of events was correct.' No idea where the watch has been for the last 2 weeks. No idea why the delays. No idea where exactly it is now. No idea when it will be returned to me. I was so excited to buy this watch, to support and show off my hometown's rebirth - but this is the 3rd time I've had it to the Repair Center in 4 years. Never buying a Shinola again! read more

Amazing experience from start to finish! While on their website I used the Shinola Styling Service which helps find products that are right for you. You answer a few quick questions, provide your contact information and from there your personal stylist reaches out. I'd say within an hour Jennifer had reached out to me with three different watch options based on my style preferences. We sent emails throughout the day with different recommendations until I set up an appointment to view the watches. 5 stars for Jennifer! When I arrived at the Troy location they had my selected watches already pulled and ready for me to view. Now the store itself is set up very nicely with clean displays of the products. My purchasing experience was very positive but follow up service issues diminish my overall rating. Watch was scratched during a band swap and I was not even offered an apology. I witnessed the damage being done as I stood and watched the work being done. Today I went in to replace my battery and was informed that the tech was on vacation and apparently no one else employed at this store is capable of the work. I understand labor shortages at many businesses these days but service after the sale is what keeps people coming back. read more

When I got my watches the policy stated the first battery replacement was free. I went in to get my batteries replaced for the first time after having my watches for a little over a year and they told me it's now $25 a battery. After talking to the store manager (who was very rude) the charge was waived. A company needs to uphold the policy that was in place at the time of purchase. Guests should not be penalized because of a new policy that is in place that was never communicated to them after their purchase. read more

I went to this store after purchasing my girlfriends bag at the end of June because the magnet to keep the bag shut became detached. I originally purchased it at the Canfield location in Detroit but because Sommerset is more convenient I chose to go there. I spoke with a male manager with longer hair and glasses originally when I talk to him I felt like he was being discriminating and judge mental do to my appearance and reason for needing a new bag. I asked him and his co worker if they can replace it because it's only been 2 going on 3 months since I purchased the bag. The only thing they said they can offer was to repair the bag. I was a little confused cause earlier before that I spoke with the Canfield location and they said they should be able to replace it since it's been a short amount of time. So I decided to just leave the bag with them cause it would only be a few day repair. I got an email five days later saying the bag has been sent out. The manager I spoke with failed to mention that there is a one year warranty on all leather goods. After leaving the bag with them to get repairs I discovered that he could have given me a new bag instead of having me drive 45 min each way, which I informed him about. So I gave him a call and after using some well choice words. He then connected me with his superior. So I told her what happened and I mentioned a couple dozen times that he is a pr*ck she chose to hang up on me in his defense which I I do understand. Mind you i told her he said he was a manager and she said he wasn't so.... Is he. Either way i chose to apologize to the lady for the way I spoke to her about her horrible coworker. Even after apologizing to the woman for calling the "manager" a pr*ck she still chose to handle the situation with an attitude. She ended up replacing the bag but when I talked to her and apologized in person and also tried to shake her hand she refused and chose to be rude and defensive for truly bad customer service. Long story short it just sucks that someone has to get to that point to get any type of honest customer service out of Shinola Detroit in sommerset. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had at any retail store I've ever been to and that isn't a exaggeration. read more

I really love all of the stationery that Shinola offers, especially the fact that you can get everything monogrammed. I've been to Shinola several times over the past few weeks to get planners (which are amazing), notebooks (gifts for people), and even some of their accessories. Jill W. handled all of my monogramming needs, and I am always blown away by her amazing personality and willingness to help! Meghan H. and Aaron (Somerset location) went out of their way to make my Shinola experience a great one. My triple wrap band was defective, and Meghan made not one, but two, trips to another Shinola location to get me a replacement and get it on my Runwell. Aaron spent over an hour, searching for a nut brown (with white stitching) band, and putting other possibilities on my watch face so I could decide if the band color worked with my summer tan. Then, they arranged to ship my watch to Detroit, as the battery had died the day before, for a replacement, so I could enjoy my week of vacation instead of fighting traffic and construction on the interstate. I left the very pleasant 1.5 hours in the store with a receipt, the promise my watch would be sent back to my home in Georgia, all at no cost to me!
