We hired shiny home cleaning services through Yelp's process for getting various bids on a job. Shiny Home had overall strong reviews and came in about the middle pricewise. Hector was very nice to work with although he was not the man on the job the day we had our carpets cleaned. Overall, the carpets looked much, much better, but they were pretty dirty so that's not surprising. Our hesitation on a stronger recommendation is because: one, the gentleman who was cleaning our carpets did not do what we asked him to do, which is to be very careful to put pads under the furniture legs on the carpet, and he did very little moving of the furniture that we had not moved. He wrapped saran wrap around the bottom legs, which was very awkward to get off. (After he left, we went and used the pads left behind by the last floor cleaner we had and put those under the legs instead). I was also not happy with the fact he did not vacuum the rugs first, because it made the process that much more difficult to deal with all the animal hair that that was on the rugs. I would have vacuumed first had I known he was not going to. Carpets are cleaned, and that is good, but I would not use them again for the reasons I mentioned. And some of the old stains reappeared eventually, but that may be due to the age of the carpets. read more

Another yelp projects win! I had a couple of recommend places that I found via nextdoor. I looked up those reviews and of those only decided to call one of them. At the same time, I used the yelp project tool to get some competitive quotes. Of course I pre-vetted before picking the first place, an then let yelp take it from there. All of the responses were prompt and friendly. Based on availability, pricing and the reviews, I picked Shiny. I could not be happier with the entire experience. The guys that showed up were prompt, professional, friendly and did a great job. We had the carpets done and while we thought the carpets looked good already, the before and after was still pretty impressive. Now they didn't get out every single stain, but I blame that on the water color paint that we left and didn't properly take care of quickly enough. The stain did get better, it just wasn't 100%. They had a referral to someone that would come out to do a repair, but I felt it was good enough. The rest of the house looked great. They show up on time as promised, they have the equipment to reach and safely clean very high interior windows, and are willing to return to clean any missed spots. What I like is they actually clean the upper windows as opposed to just spraying them down and squeegeeing them with a long pole. Hector came with two other men in two trucks from Sunnyvale all the way to Atherton. They cover an area from South San Francisco to Gilroy to do a number of home cleaning jobs in addition to window cleaning.
