Beef Rendang Combo (w/Sambal Goreng & Fried Egg)
    Michele T.

Excited to try Shioketh, but they're only open on Saturdays from 11am-3pm. Friendly staff. Limited menu offerings which change weekly. During our visit, we ordered: 1) Pandan ice coffees - looks like a good amount of pandan crema added to the drink but the pandan flavor was subtle. Would've liked it to be stronger. 2) Pandan waffle w/ gula melaka - arrived hot. Good waffle but, like the iced coffee, would've liked the pandan flavor to be stronger. 3) Beef Rendang combo - the flavors were good but the portion was small. For the price ($28, I think), I expected more.

As soon as I found out this place served Singaporean food, I knew I had to try it. Shioketh is a pop up at Hapa Market in Palolo, open every Saturday. Since opening, their hours have changed a few times and their menu is different from week to week, so I would definitely recommend looking them up online or on instagram before visiting. I would also suggest visiting when they open as this place is first come first serve and they tend to run out of some dishes early. I waited to visit until laksa was on the menu since there aren't many places in Hawaii that serve it. It was creamy, spicy, and the flavors brought back memories of eating at hawker stalls in Singapore. Parking is available in the front parking lot, but is very limited. Takeout or dining in at one of their 5/6 tables available inside.

Lunch in Palolo, Honolulu, Hawaii... It took me a while to figure out when Shioketh was open. It's only operational on Saturdays between 11am and 3pm. Very limited hours! Andrea was working the counter... she's awesome! She knew the menu well and asked if whole milk is okay in the Pandan Iced Coffee. Great question because I am lactose intolerant! She substituted with a dairy-free milk! It was great! Andrea also explained that most of the menu items are spicy. I had to get the Blooming Eggs which is not spicy, but it's deep-fried. I eventually got tired of the oiliness, but the first few bites were delicious! Give Shioketh a try if you like exotic, Singaporean food! Go early for better parking - even though there's free street parking in this residential neighborhood. It's crowded! Inside, the space is bright and cute, but there wasn't enough air-conditioning for me... shucks!

I've had Shioketh on my radar but since they are a pop up in Hapa Market open only on Saturday between 11am-3pm, I always forget about them. After a recent ROTD, I decided to finally go check them out. Since they are a pop up, their full menu isn't available every Saturday and they only offer the specials they post on their social media. I reached out to them on Instagram regarding this but it took them a day to get back to me due to how busy they are when they are open. After a couple of weeks of checking out their menu for Saturday, we finally saw items we wanted to try so I made an order online. I highly recommend you ordering online and choosing your pick up time. You'll thank everyone who recommends this later. When I arrived to pick up our take out order, the parking lot was packed! Dine in was full and there were people waiting for a table outside. I didn't expect them to be so busy but I'm happy to see them doing so well. Singaporean cuisine needs to be more available. Fortunately I got the last parking spot to run in and grab my order. Due to some traffic, I arrived about 10 minutes after my pick up time but my order was ready. Customer service was friendly and you help yourself to utensils on the side. Our order was 2 Beef Rendang with a side of Spicy Sambal Goreng and a side order of Blooming Eggs. You have to order the Blooming Eggs! It's hella legit. The combo dish was delicious and we loved the flavors. Worthy of all their 5 star reviews and we can't wait to try more of their menu.

Found another Okinawan owned food business on Oahu! Shioketh serves Singaporean Street Food! Chef/Owner Emily Terukina is from Singapore and cooks up legit Singaporean cuisine, popping up at Hapa Market & Grill every Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. The specials rotate every week, so check their IG to see what will be on special that week. Their drinks are lovely as well. Save room for dessert! The pandan waffle is ono and the piping hot kaya toast was amazing. Note: Not all of their dishes are spicy. My mom enjoyed the Blooming Egg. Warning tho: The dishes that are spicy, like the Beef Rendang, has a heat that just keeps building. The special this week was Punggol Mee Goreng: A beloved noodle dish from Singapore's Punggol district. Wok-fried egg noodles tossed with succulent shrimp and tender squid in a sweet-savory tomato sambal sauce, topped with fresh chives. You can be like me and get it "No Spice" if you can't handle the heat. Follow them on IG to find out the weekly specials. https://www.instagram.com/shioketh/ Pre-order items from Thursday afternoon at: https://shioketh.com/

I finally got to try Shioketh, 2 weekends in a row and I LOVE it, I am a fan! I am normally not in town on a Saturdays or on island due to travels but yay! I wish Shioketh has a permanent location but that would be so bad for me, I would make a stop so often! I don't know of any place that serves Singaporean food except for SingMaTei when they had their shop at Makai Market. I like Singaporean food for the very unique flavors and ingredients! Shioketh is a pop up shop located at the Hapa Market, I believe open 1 or 2 days a week usually on a Saturday. Best to check their social media page for pop up hours and menu. Shioketh does not take phone orders but they do take on-line orders. I hope this pop survives, since I love all my my orders so far and do plan to be back again for more! Please support this local small buisness pop up, even though it may be out of the way for all of us but make the most of hanging out east side on Saturday! During my very first visit to Shioketh, I had about 20 minutes to kill before meeting with friends for lunch, got an order of the Sambal Goreng, vegetarian dish made with stir-fried tofu, long beans with side rice & Kaya sweet bun. I loved the flavors of Sambal Goreng and the sweet bun, came with coconut pandan jam. Yums! This past Saturday, I was so excited, I made a quick stop before their closing time of 6 pm, I ordered blooming eggs, Sambal Goreng, side of fragrant rice ( rice with chicken broth) and buko pandan coffee. Wow, after taking a sip of the buko pandan, it was so good! I didn't want to drink it too fast and wanted to enjoy every sip! The blooming eggs was unique, a little on the sweet side, I miss eating pork floss- sure brings back memories of my childhood when we ate pork floss and rice. Shioketh has different menu every week, nexts on my list to try are the specials for the day and the buko pandan waffles! This is my kinda food since I do see alot of those Instagram vids with Singaporean dishes and makes me want to try them badly. Staff are very friendly, food, drinks, and sweets are legit good and authentic! Make plans to check out Shioketh on a Saturday. They open from 11am-2pm, then break for one hour and open from 3-6pm.

It was a rainy Saturday when we got here. But we were fortunate to have made it just the same coz this place has a very limited hours of operation. The menu on that day listed Laksa and Beef rendang with the option to add the blooming egg. Our group ordered both laksa and beef rendang without the blooming egg. All four of us agreed that everything was delicious! I had the beef rendang which I found to be saucy (which I liked very much coz I just love saucy foods) A bit spicy but tolerable. Serving was generous. I ordered the pandas coffee to go and that hit the spot. Limited seating and limited parking though street parking seems to be allowed in that residential neighborhood. Hole in the wall kind of place but owner and staff were all jovial and very pleasant. Given their limited hours of operation and our limited stay in Honolulu, it will not be possible to come back to taste their other offerings. But I strongly recommend this place to visitors and locals alike.

When I heard that Shioketh finally put laksa on this weekend's menu, I nearly wept. Months ago I wrote in my first review that I hoped they'd add it one day, and here we are. Manifestation works, folks. Fresh off a trip to Singapore, my laksa standards are sky-high... and this bowl cleared the bar, did a backflip, and stuck the landing. Absolute knockout. The broth is rich and velvety, the spice sings without setting your face on fire, and nothing is watered down for "safe" palates. Authentic, bold, and gloriously unapologetic. Emily & co didn't hold back, and I love them for it. It tastes like a one-way ticket back to the hawker stalls, minus the airfare. This isn't just comfort food, it's call-your-friends-and-gloat food. The kind of dish that ruins you for laksa anywhere else on the island. Shioketh, you've reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with your spot. Bravo. Dear Yelp: how do I give them 6 stars?

Weekend lunch date with Dumboz on one of the pop-ups in Hapa Market at Palolo Valley. FOOD. BEEF RENDANG (A dry curry made with fork-tender beef which has been slow-cooked over four hours with spices and coconut milk, then fried with a braising liquid until it caramelizes around the meat. Served with rice and side salad) WATERMELON CUCUMBER SPRITZER (A refreshing fruit spritzer served with mint and cool cucumber slices) All I can say here is - HEAVEN FOR MY BELLY. This exact food reminds me of my college days. And those were happy days. Although it might be too overcooked for other people it is still worth the try. The dish is so flavorful, bold and savory. Perfectly paired with rice! The drink is so refreshing and perfectly paired with it as it flushes down all the goodness. Mahalo Shioketh for healing my inner college days. Checkout their IG account (@shioketh) for an updated menu and their opening hours. Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow Yeeps.

Know that the menu rotates week to week so it's not always the same. Looks like a 3 to 4 week rotation. In this way the choices are always fresh but if u want the Nasi Lemak, you will have to wait a few weeks! Staff is very friendly and you can definitely hear the Singlish (Singaporean English) from the kitchen. Service is a bit slow - looks like they make each on order. So relax and hang loose. The food is worth it! We had the Crispy Wonton Noodle and the Punggol Mee Goreng. Both were very authentic and good. Had the right spicy kick and quantity wise they were just right. We also tried the Lychee Iced Tea and the Pandan Iced Coffee. They were both feast for the eyes as well as to the taste buds! Cost wise it seems a bit pricy but everything eating out today is. So no different. Just don't convert it to Singaporean or Malaysian dollars... Finally, Shioketh is pronounced as Shi-Ok-eth. It translates to the best of the best! Come try it!

This is such a surprise for me. I am just glad that there's a Singaporean food here that will surely satisfy for those who craves it. Came here for lunch and we were greeted happily by the staffs. They were so friendly and despite the busy situation they were able to show the Aloha to their patrons. There are several chairs and tables available to dine-in if you wish to. So far the environment is clean and welcoming. Got Blooming Eggs (deep fried omelette bloomed in hot oil and topped with sweet soy sauce, pork floss, green onions and shallots). Surprisingly it was so good. It kind'a look weird for an omelette but the moment I got my first forkful taste it was simply a blast in my mouth. The flavors are there. It was seasoned well and t'was my first time to have pork floss and I love it tbh. Paired a drink with Watermelon Cucumber Spritzer and couldn't be more refreshing and perfect pair. So good that I want to order one more but the wifey stopped me, lol and got water instead. Haha. Anyhow, this pop-up is worth the visit and their food are so Ono. They round their menu every month so keep updated through their social media account. One pop-up restaurant in Pālolo Valley at a time.

Having grown up in Indonesia and Singapore, I had to come check this place out! We ordered the ayam penyet and the pandan coffee and it definitely did not disappoint. Portion was a little small for its price, but the food was so good. The chilis was so authentic and good! The pandan coffee was great too! It was just the right amount of sweetness! The place was a little hot, especially during the day, and the space was pretty small. The servers were super friendly and told us the owner's background and their love for food. Definitely worth checking out!

    Delicious!

This has been on my bucket list for the longest time but the timing never worked out until recently! Follow their IG to find out their specials of the week and if you see something that intrigues you, you can easily order online in advance and have it ready for Saturday. They have a small parking lot right in front but it can get packed so best to come around opening time! There's no AC so dress lightly. They seem like very nice people who really enjoy making customers happy with their food and they definitely achieve that goal with every bite! We got the Hainanese Chicken Cutlet w/ Salted Egg Sauce, Pandan Waffle, and Pandan Vietnamese Coffee (make sure to mix the syrup from the bottom) 10/10 would love to come back and try out their other dishes! We don't have much of a Singaporean footprint in Hawaii and I love that they have little twists to their food. Unfortunately they're only open on Saturdays from 11 AM - 3 PM so be sure to keep an eye out to not miss any of your favorites!

The first course was a local take on a Salad Lyonnaise featuring Waipoli greens tossed table side with house made papaya seed dressing and offered toppings of diced egg, bacon, and house made croutons. Salty, tangy, and a nice fresh start to the meal. Next came the star of the show. The 3-day herb cured, prime grade, prime rib was a perfect medium rare and carved table side. Each plate came with potato puree, creamed spinach, hurricane corn, and a shokupan bun. The prime rib was very tender as expected, and offered with creamy mild horseradish and au jus. The potatoes were food mill smooth and buttery. The spinach tasted "healthy" with just a touch of cream. The hurricane corn was a stroke of genius. Furikake works on popcorn, so it works on cream corn. The shokupan has a nice soft chew, just next time I might sneak my own butter in. And for those who can eat a little more, you might be offered a bonus slice. Dessert is a play on an Old Fashioned, with Asato Family frozen custard, orange whipped cream, toffee crunch, an old fashioned caramel, and a cherry. Like all Asato desserts, the flavors come through strong and true. I loved the addition of the toffee crunch for the texture and the boozy, burnt caramel which cut the dessert's sweetness. Located in China town, you have the normal issues of finding parking. The location is not large and is split into indoor and outdoor seating areas. The bread was good but that black garlic butter made it even better. But for me the prosciutto was the highlight and should not be skipped. Mixed with the pickles in that sesame shell, it was so delicious. For mains we got the gnocchi and capellini. The beef cheek in the gnocchi was so flavorful and soft. There were several servers walking by and three bartenders directly in front of us, but no one acknowledged us or offered any help. After about five minutes, one person in my party started walking toward the back of the restaurant to look for someone who could assist us. I stepped a few feet toward the middle of the bar area, near a POS system/kiosk, and finally a young woman who appeared to be the host approached me. She asked how I was doing and whether we had been checked in. I explained that we hadn't and that we'd been waiting in the front for someone to greet us, while pointing toward the entrance. She then asked if the person who had walked toward the back was with me, in a tone that came across as somewhat condescending. She proceeded to tell us to go back and wait in the front, without giving us any indication of how long we'd be waiting or any information about our reservation. As we stood there, I could see her whispering to a server, who then looked directly at us. Whether or not the conversation was about us, the whole interaction felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. After another five minutes, we were frustrated enough that we decided to wait outside. About five minutes later, the host came outside and brought us to our table -- right at our exact reservation time. What made the wait even more frustrating was that there were plenty of open seats on the outside patio, where we were ultimately seated. It felt like we could have simply been acknowledged when we first arrived and given some basic information about the reservation. Our server was nice, but unfortunately the service throughout the meal wasn't particularly attentive. They checked on us maybe once during the meal and also encouraged our party of three to order more food. I also noticed the same host from the front whispering into our server's ear right in front of our table. Again, I have no idea what was being said and it may not have had anything to do with us, but after the earlier interaction, it added to an overall uncomfortable feeling. As for the food, it was just average and, in my opinion, not worth the price. The onion dip was probably the best thing we had. The dan mien was essentially a cheesy egg noodle pasta with just a hint of tomato flavor, and the gnocchi was noticeably mushy and overcooked. Given the price point, I expected much more. The restaurant was definitely busy, particularly around the bar area, so I understand that things can get hectic. But being busy isn't an excuse for not acknowledging guests, especially guests who have reservations. The combination of the initial interaction, the lack of attentiveness throughout the meal, and food that didn't live up to the price left a pretty bad impression. I'm not sure if some of the attitude had anything to do with us being a group of younger-looking women, but that's unfortunately how the experience felt. This left our birthday celebration with a sour taste in our mouths. Hopefully management can address the way guests are greeted and treated in the future. Overall, there are plenty of places where I'd happily spend this kind of money, and based on this experience, Giovedi won't be one of them. Unfortunately, we won't be back.

No bento this year but a wonderful bougie selection of bites including Yakitori which was grilled and flavored wonderfully wrapped in chicken skin was tender and very easy to enjoy along with a single yakinigiri a comfort item I've grown up enjoying was nice and crisp with that shoyu glaze giving it that crust to hold it all in. Sando Trio is fun with half slices of egg salad, tonkatsu and grilled Wagyu steak between Japanese shokupan that fluffy bread was delicate and soft though sharing it was the most difficult situation we made it work and it thoroughly enjoyed each one. The final item was the "Golden Week Special" and it was the Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Nigiri which is torched table side and topped with gold dust was the bougie bite that was beyond glorious which made me feel giggly as I didn't expect that at all what a nice surprise! Though all foods was very nice and delicious some items are not easily shareable and because it's a pop up they don't have all items on hand as it was more like a picnic style and service was nice and friendly and the food came out efficiently it was the company that made the night beyond enjoyable and memorable. Parking is free for 2 1/2 hours and it's $7 per hour after that but is totally worth the experience and recommended as you still have time to dine under the Sakura Tree before Springtime has ended. Thank you Terry for this amazing night filled with smiles and laughter you sure know how to entertain this Gemini. Thank you!

Maybe a controversial take, but beastside has my favorite garlic shrimp on island. Unlike…read moreGiovanni's, Jenny's, and all the other Haleiwa shrimp trucks, Beastside fries their shrimp without breading so that it's super crispy and flavorful. You can even eat the skin! I've returned here time after time, and in addition to the shrimp being great, the staff are always very friendly, all of the food is delicious, and they sometimes have live musicians. Highly recommend if you're on the East side, and worth the drive for good garlic shrimp even if you aren't.

From the warm and friendly service to the delicious Hawaii local beers, we were impressed. When the food came out, we were blown away. We started with the Pork Belly Bao Buns...oh my gosh, we could have made a meal out of just those! The pork belly was juicy and soft and with the sauce and fluffy bao buns...they will be something I dream of when we leave Hawaii. We then shared the two choice platter with the Guava fried chicken and Umami Garlic Shrimp. It was soooo good and the reviews were spot on. We were full and completely happy by the time we left! I will be recommending them to all our friends that visit and live in Hawaii.

But once you do, there are four parking spots right in front. If you can't get one of those, it's street parking. The owners are really nice! The wife told me to sit wherever I wanted and I chose outside on the patio. I ordered Da Meat Combo plate. A well-seasoned pork chop. An old school fried chicken leg you'd think your grandma made for you, so good! And two tender delicious barbecue ribs! The cornbread was great! They were out of collard greens, so I opted for the mac n cheese. Me: Which one, potato salad or barbecue beans? She: The potato salad is more tangy, we add a little mustard, and the beans are more on the sweet side... Me: I'll take both, please. This rounded out my meal! I also had the fresh squeezed lemonade. And for dessert, a real hard choice, the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. This was a great way to end my meal. Such a wonder place to come to! Looking forward to returning!
