Wanted dim sum after running errands and ended up here instead of our usual Tai Pan. It was relatively early when we arrived, around 11:15am on a Wednesday (NYE 2026). The restaurant was almost half full, occupied by Chinese uncles and aunties chatting. There were only two ladies working; a cashier/phone order taker/takeout packer and one to take orders, serve food, etc. A pot of tea and menus were brought to us as soon as we were seated. The server very enthusiastically tempted us with baked stuff first, from which we only chose the egg/custard tarts. The kid then asked for shrimp dumplings and she rolled the steamer cart around. In total we ordered egg tart, 2x chicken feet, 2x shrimp dumplings, spinach and seafood dumplings, bean curd seaweed rolls, shrimp look funn, and pork and century egg porridge, for just under $60 including tax. We all agreed the custard tarts were good. Flaky and soft crust with a perfect custard (altho the kid and hubs both got liquidy centers). The chicken feet is peppery and umami, unlike most places with steamed peanuts or black beans. More importantly, the skin was tender and silky and collagen-y and not rubbery. The bean curd roll was tasty as well, almost like a steamed spring roll, with I think a mix of seafood and possibly jicama and carrots. The porridge is enough to feed at least five with two bowls per person. The rice is smooth yet had some bite, with a generous amount of ginger slivers, thinly sliced pork, and century egg bits. It then got really busy with takeout orders and people waited quite some time. Attentive enough staff, although our iced waters never came, despite asking twice. Wouldn't mind returning for dim sum. read more

This place has always held a special place in my families heart. They have held family monuments throughout the years while feeding all our hungry hearts. There isn't a seat at the restaurant that doesn't hold a special memory! The location in China town has metered parking on the side roads or a paid parking lot across the way. The area is flooded with shops and culture. Garlic and ginger is small but has an abundance of dim sum for all to enjoy. From typical dim sum as well as Hawaiian local treats. We can't thank the staff enough for allowing us to make such historic memories in their restaurant. read more

We wanted to try a different yum cha place, so me and my LA boyz went to G & G. We were glad we did. At first we weren't sure bc we were the only ones there @ ~ 10:30 on Sun. However, we noticed they do a lot of catering and take out biz. The basics of pork hash, har gow and XLBs were solid. The dumplings were juicy, packed w/ goodies and inexpensive. Not pictured is the manapua, beef chow fun, pai gut and pot stickers. All of the latter were very good also. Lastly, the dan tat had flaky crusts and creamy centers as they should. Regarding the ambiance, its not much to speak of. Most of the items were brought to us, but the dumplings were brought on a traditional cart. The owner and remainder of the staff were very nice. I found a new place to go to for dim sum in HNL Chinatown. I look forward to returning on my next visit home. read more

I saw Ginger and Garlic on the "Must Try" listing on Grub Hub. Obviously I had to try it. This review includes a review of Grub Hub as well. Read and you'll understand why. We placed a simple order, (2) Baked Barbecue Pork Buns, (1) Pan Fried Bun stuffed with chicken and (1) order of Yongchow Fried Rice. I'm HIGHLY ALLERGIC to Fish, shellfish and especially shrimp. There was no description of how the Yongchow Fried Rice was prepared, so I added a note in all capital letters advising the restaurant of my allergies. "NO FISH NO SHELLFISH AND ESPECIALLY NO SHRIMP, I AM HIGHLY ALLERGIC". I've eaten at several Chinese restaurants and my allergies have always been addressed perfectly and any necessary precautions made. This was on a Tuesday night. After waiting 90 minutes checking the Grub Hub Tracking , it never changed from saying "Delivery Driver on his way to pick up your order" After another 30 minutes I finally complained to Grub Hub who cancelled my order and said I'll be refunded in 3-7 days. UNACCEPTABLE. It was now 8:00pm and Ginger and Garlic was closed for the night. Wednesday. I decided to be fair, not blaming the restaurant for the Tuesday debacle and placing another order at 5:00pm for the exact same order as what I had ordered on Tuesday night. I scheduled delivery for anytime between 7:45pm and 8:00pm. At 7:45pm, The Grub Hub driver texted me saying he was waiting at the restaurant and they hadn't even started my order. Shout out to the delivery driver for the order updates. At 8:05pm Delivery Driver texted me that they just started the order. At 8:40pm he texted me that my order was finally ready and that he was on his way, he arrived more than an hour late, just like Tuesday with the correction that this time I received my food. I originally blamed Tuesday night's debacle on Grub Hub but it appears to have been due to Ginger and Garlic not preparing the food in a timely manner and they closed without preparing my order at all instead they left the ticket open and closed the restaurant. This according to Grub Hub Management. Sorry if this is long, but it'll make you appreciate how long 90 minutes feels. I'm starving at this point, ready to eat and ready to review. The "Baked" Barbecue Pork Buns were steamed, not baked. The Yongchow fried rice was Char Siu, beef and SHRIMP. Lots of small cocktail shrimp. I was not very happy. I double checked the order and my allergy note was boldly included in capital letters. The only redeeming item were the Pan Fried Buns stuffed with chicken. Unfortunately (1) order wasn't enough to split for 3 people. My daughter originally tried to pick out all the shrimp but told me not to eat it because they used Oyster Sauce. No Yongchow Fried Rice for me, unless they were trying to kill me. After reading thireview they just might. (Sarcasm). I ate 1/2 a Steamed Barbecue Pork Bun as my dinner. I will most definitely not be ordering from Garlic and Ginger again. I told Grub Hub to take it off of the "Must Try" menu. Grub Hub issued a $25 credit for my troubles. I didn't get to try a lot of dishes so I may have to add an update on this in the future. There were some items on the menu that I really liked and others that I felt were not worth while. The BQQ pork bun comes in two forms (or at least I think that is the case) one with a normal bakery bread exterior and the other that comes with this nice crumbly crust. i had the latter. That was absolutely my favorite dish here. Its a nice spin on a classic dish. The texture of the crust is unique and I appreciate that a lot. The beef ball was ok... maybe felt small but ok for price. Shiao Long Bao was a nice size but lacked the soup element. The Look Fun felt overpriced for what it was. Mochi Rice in Lotus Leaf was delicious with the salted egg inside! Overall not bad. I would try again. read more

I went with a friend and another friend joined us after we had been sitting there for 1/2 hour and no one every came over to take our order. We were watching people being served that had arrived after us. It was a little bit after lunch time. This review is for my takeout experience. I was in Chinatown running some errands when I had a craving for dim sum. The restaurant that I normally go to in Chinatown was closed (permanently?). And the bakery I frequent for dim sum was closed for the day. So opted to try this close by restaurant I happened to pass by. There was a rolling open cart and and an enclosed rolling cart with dim sum to choose from. There weren't too many options to choose from, most likely since it was already late in the afternoon. I got a few item to try for takeout: baked char sui manapua, egg tarts, pork hash (shumai), and chicken feet. I can't say any of the items I got stood out. I didn't care for the filling in the manapua. The pork hash was 1/3 the size of what I'm accustomed to. The egg tart was fine, but not exceptional. And the chicken feet was the most flavorful amongst the lot that I chose. Service was not particularly friendly, which has been my typical experience at Chinese restaurants, but very efficient. Pricing seemed reasonable for the amount of dim sum I selected. And metered parking is available close by on the streets. This is not my first choice for dim sum. But if you happen to be in a pinch, it will do. read more

We ordered lots of different dim sum, noodles and scallion pancake. Id never had a custard bun before - sheesh it was good! they have wonderful shumai and hargow. I like it when the meat is chunky rather than pasty. The scallion pancake was thick and overcooked - but it might be me. This is not Taiwanese scallion pancakes but something more like pajeon. Because it was the beginning of the lunar year, the cravings for dim sum lingered in the air. As it was around dinner service I began to search which restaurants were serving dim sum. After remembering that one of my friends raved about Ginger & Garlic, I figured, well let's might as well check this place out as it appeared that they serve dim sum for dinner. So the boyfriend and I were able to secure paid parking across the street and walked into the restaurant. We were quickly seated and we began looking over the menu. After ordering our selections and asking for tea and soda, the lady came over with a warm can of soda with no cup of ice and literally dropped our utensils on our table (not even placing it nicely). I thought nothing of it and gave the lady the benefit of the doubt. After all, it looks like she's the only one running the front of the house and there was only one kitchen staff who was walking back and forth dropping off the meals. As for the food, I decided to order my usual Dimsum like siu mai (pork hash) and shrimp half moon while my boyfriend decided to get his beef with broccoli and steamed beef balls. The lady tried to offer us some other dim sum plates from the warmer to which I couldn't resist getting some baked egg tarts. I did notice that they had some jin dui but they were flat as a pancake. I brought that to my boyfriend's attention to which he told me that he noticed that the thermometer was not the correct temperature for keeping the food warm. Kinda scary if you ask me. Now as for the food, I unfortunately was not impressed; some of the dishes didn't appear to be cooked throughly. The steamed beef balls seemed a little too mushy and most of the dim sum was mediocre. It wasn't until about 20 minutes into the meal, nature was calling (on line 2). Service wasn't the greatest. As mentioned earlier, the lady who was running the front of the house basically dropped our utensils without any concern. She barely checked on us (not surprised by this) and was being attentive and friendly to the other tables more than ours. The other individual who was dropping off food and bussing tables (I think he was the only one cooking the food in the kitchen) was much more attentive to our table than her. Ordered takeout and it was just ok. The shrimp dumplings had small shrimp. The look funn (even tho I ordered pork) it came with shrimp.. each noodle only had ONE shrimp. The Sui Mai was oversteamed. The pork ribs had so much bone that most of it was inedible. This was Takeout tho... the entire order was around $30 and I wouldn't recommend it. read more

We were looking for a new dinner option and happened to be watching a bunch of episodes of Kung Fu. The family on the show runs the cutest dumpling restaurant, so bingo we had what we wanted. Being cozy at home, we decided on delivery and chose a place farther away. This was a first for me, but it had come highly recommended. I will say our experience was mixed, but acknowledge part of it was due to the fact we weren't eating there in person. We chose a few different dumpling types: shrimp and a mixed seafood with a side of rice. Right away we were disappointed with the portion sizes: there were six pieces of each.
