I absolutely loved every dish we tried. Everything was delicious and beautifully plated. The restaurant itself is on the small side. Not a lot of tables inside but they do appear to have an outdoor seating area in the back. I opted to sit at the bar. My Crystal Tiger cocktail was perfect. The bartender was super knowledgeable and friendly. It was fun watching his bartender tricks while he made drinks. We had the Hokkaido Milk Bread and Onion dip for appetizers. The Grilled Kampachi was so good. Cooked to perfection with amazing seasoning and flavors. The accompanying sauce had hint of curry with lovely freh herbs. Loved it! My fave dish of all the ones we tried. We also had the Capellini Granchio. This was also delish. Pasta was perfect. A good amount of crab to flavorful noodles. Ono crudo new on menu - unusual bc on white bean puree and topped with olives. Tasted fine. Prosciutto - our favorite. Unusual with the sesame pocket, prosciutto thinly sliced and not too salty, the perfect pickles, plenty of shaved cheese. You make little pocket sandwiches and this made for a delish bite. Fois gras torchon - rich, nice sweet sauce, onion confit, on sourdough grilled bread. This can't not be good. Dan mien - liked the consistency of noodles silky and chewy. The dining room was loud from the start, with a couple of guests being excessively noisy and music turned up so high it was hard to have a conversation. Is there no policy of cutting off guests? Does it have to take them to fall on the ground hitting the wall? Tables on both sides next to us all complained. Apps: The scallop crudo was excellent and the highlight of the meal. The foie gras toast was greasy, and the foie gras was served as a firm block rather than the smooth, spreadable texture I expected. Main: Our pastas arrived about 45 minutes after being seated. The spaghetti had good flavor but was inconsistently cooked, while the Capellini Granchio was buttery, smooth, and full of crab flavor. Bill: $170 with 3 cocktails minus tip. Up and coming restaurant in Honolulu so was eager to give it a try. Small cozy place with a long bar with inside seating and in the patio. Guest had a mocktail and I settle for a bottle of sparkling water. Ask server for her recommendations and started with the onion dip. Shrimp cracker were crunchy and the dip was tasty. Prosciutto ham served with a sasamo donut topped with giardiniera pickles was amazing. Entree was Kampatchi which was cooked perfectly on a burre blanc sauce and dill. I've been a big fan of Giovedi ever since their pop up in Restaurant Row. I've been to their Chinatown location a few times, but it has been awhile and I have returned this past weekend since a friend has been wanting to try. She heard that their espresso martini is one of the best on the island and she was dying to order it. We had a small girl dinner with some cocktails. We ordered the carpaccio, onion dip, and tiramisu. We tried to order the hokkaido milk rolls, but they were unfortunately out of that, so be sure to come in earlier if that is something you want to try. Cocktail wise, I had the peacock tail, which was a tequila sour and it was so yummy i drank it so fast. My friend ordered the mint chocolate cocktail and it was everything she was craving. All appetizers were small, but shareable, and definitely great! To finish, I order the espresso martini, which I have unofficially renamed it to turbo mode and it paired very well with our tiramisu. Loved the outdoor seating and spectacular inventive Italian cuisine! We had 4 adults and shared all small plates and entrees. The marlin crudo with chili crunch as a starter balanced spice with eggplant base sauce perfectly. It was a nice experience, but im not sure I would go again, given the price and selection. The Milk Bread was definitely amazing! The scallops were good because brown butter makes everything good. But the salad was anti climactic. Our main dishes were good but never wowed- and it felt like the menu never gave you a true idea what you were ordering so its kind of a blind order. I did like my take on the Vietnamese noodles though. The drinks were strong but meh. I remember it being enjoyable but its not memorable or recommendable. The desert Carrot Cake was a huge disappointment. Maybe its just not for me? We left a good half of it behind... The service was very good. It took me way too long but my wife and I finally made it to Giovedi at the strong recommendation of many friends. It was awesome. The moment you step in to the restaurant you feel warmly welcomed. The feel of the place is casual and inviting. We sat at the bar which we always enjoy doing. The bartender Michael took great care of us and we even had a chance to talk with the owner Jen while we enjoyed the onion dip, green salad, and three pastas - the Capellini Granchio, Spaghetti AOP, and Gnocchi Mapolonese. We just had a wonderful dining experience at Giovedì, where Italian food is served with a pan-Asian flair. Every single dish we sampled was exceptional. We ordered the Scallop Carpaccio, the Nairagi Crudo (striped marlin), the Spaghetti Arrabbiata, the Gnocchi Mapolonese, and the Char Siu Pork. While every dish dazzled us, the Nairagi Crudo, containing sliced marlin, Calabrian chili crisp, charred eggplant, and mint, was our favorite. Elise, our server, was extremely attentive and helpful. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. Maybe I was too excited to try this place. But wow. Nothing was good. Started off the meal with $11 Hokkaido Milk Rolls. Sure, they were warm and fluffy, but nothing to write home about and about the same or worse than the table bread that most restaurants at this price point would provide for free. The black garlic butter was a disappointing cacophony of sweet and savory that seemed unable to make up its mind on whether it wanted to taste good or not. Pass. The Mafaldine Malunggay was absolutely tasteless. No hint of flavor whatsoever. Plain green pasta and tomatoes. Like something you might feed a dog who's having some tummy issues. Hard pass. The Mushroom Donburi at least had SOME flavor. The whole thing was overpowered by the taste of the popped venere black rice. Like spoonful after spoonful of slightly burnt microwave popcorn. I feel like this dish *would* have been absolutely delicious as a risotto with a creamy white sauce that balanced the crunchy nuttiness of the venere. But it wasn't. Just a dry bowl of mushrooms sitting on tragically overcooked high-quality Japanese rice that tasted like a home kitchen accident. Harder pass. The Gnocchi Mabolognese was the best thing we ate here, but that's not saying much. A failed attempt fusion between gnocchi in beef ragu and mabo tofu. Lacking both the comforting, heartwarming taste of nonna's secret sauce while also lacking the sharp punch of umami deliciousness that is a proper mabo. The gnocchi also lacked the tender chewiness that makes gnocchi enjoyable to eat--it just melted into nothingness upon first bite. Guess I'm glad I tried it, but never again. So so good. All the appetizers and entrees were strong, and some of the dishes are some of the best bites I had during my recent weeklong trip to Honolulu. Definitely get the prosciutto appetizer and the char siu pork. It's been a couple of weeks since we ate here but I'm still thinking about how good that char siu pork was. Focus on the appetizers and entrees. Dessert was nothing special. That said, if I could just get a scoop of that ginger ice cream that's served with the carrot cake, that would be an amazing finish to a great meal. Love this concept! Typically one can only find Japanese-Italian restaurants, this spot has a plethora of Asian inspired Italian dishes. I'm in town to visit my family for the holidays so my Aunt took me to this newly opened spot that she recently tried. Although there were only two of us, we ordered like four. ONION DIP - onion five ways, warm shrimp chips - super tasty, lots of good textures. Definitely get it with the caviar, the saltiness gave it good balance. Love the shrimp chips for Asian flare and flavor. FOIE GRAS TORCHON - caramelized onion, vino cotto, served with olive oil toast - the vino cotto was excellent, the plate definitely needed more of it. It provided good acidity to liven the dish up. PROSCIUTTO SAN DANIELE - vietnamese sesamo donuts, giardiniera pickles - this is a BIG appetizer but was light enough to whet your palette. I MIGHT have enjoyed a little stronger cheese. CAPELLINI GRANCHIO - dungeness crab, preserved lemon, kani miso breadcrumbs - super light and refreshing. Breadcrumbs provided good crunch texture to make it interesting. OCTOPUS MALFADINE Special of the night - "meat sauce" - must like seafood to enjoy this dish. I THINK they ground the octopus to make the sauce. I liked it but would have LOVED it if there were also larger pieces of octopus floating about. MRS. TRAN'S TIRAMISU - amaro nonino-dipped lady fingers, mascarpone, espresso - a good tiramisu, there happened to be a lot of cocoa powder on ours that evening and I t over powered the amaro nonino a tad. I'd definitely eat here again. There seems to be a lot of interesting items on the menu to try. Street parking in Chinatown is always terrible but great if you get lucky and find a spot. Delicious food and a cute space. We came for dinner and shared a bunch of dishes family style, including the milk rolls, onion dip, mafaldine, mushroom donburi, kampachi, and pork chop. Can't decide between Asian or Italian? At Giovedis, you can have both. Located behind Fete, this restaurant serves Italian with an Asian twist. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors, in the back courtyard, but is limited, so I recommend making a reservation in advance. On our first visit, we ordered the Hokkaido milk rolls, onion dip, Dan mien Vietnam-Atriciana pasta, gnocchi mapolonese, Washugyu garlic steak, and mushroom donburi. The highlight was the gnocchi which were pillowy soft while the mapo sauce was slightly and delightfully numbing from the Sichuan spices. Most surprising was the crispy black rice in the mushroom donburi and the garlicky peppery, perfectly cooked steak. The Vietnam-Amatriciana was good, but I couldn't really taste the lap xuong and I wish the Asian flavors were a bit stronger. The grand finale, the five spice carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and ginger gelato. The cake was moist, the frosting smooth and luscious, and the gelato was creamy and gingery. It was the perfect way to end the meal. The servings were modest and prices were on the high end. They were also quite busy when we visited, so service was a bit slow, but overall we really enjoyed the meal. One of the places I wanted to try. It is located in Chinatown next to Fete. The restaurant was fairly small for the indoor seatings but they also have an outdoor seatings which is more spacious and looks like it's reserved for big groups. Hokkaido milk rolls: The milk rolls were fluffy and soft. The black garlic butter was rich and pack with flavor. It was delicious with the bread. Foie Gras torchon: This was like an elevated version of Vietnamese pate. The bread initially came out very burnt. We requested for another bread that was not burnt. They remade it for us and it was better. This dish was rich and the spread was smooth and thick. The caramelized onions give it a sweet flavor. It was an interesting appetizer. Gnocchi Mapolonese: Absolutely love this dish. One of the best unique pasta I've tried. The gnocchi was pillowy and not at all grainy. It soaked the sauce which gives it flavor. The sauce was similar to Bo Kho (Vietnamese beef stew) but more fragrant. The whipped tofu is just a dollop on top which was pretty little. The braised beef was nice and tender. Mushroom Donburi: This was also a very good dish. There were different variety of mushrooms cooked with a crispy texture. This dish was crunchy and pretty interesting. The rice was good with some garlicky flavor. Overall, the dinner was good. The only issue I had was that it does tend to get a little hot in there. Since it's an open doors restaurant, there's no air con so it was pretty humid. I was sweating at the end of the meal. The water was also lukewarm which doesn't help to cool us down. I lucked out to be served by a skillful mixologist named Dave, he informed me he only works here once a week. Since I was first to be served in the restaurant I felt special and had his full attention. He informed me that the scallops are delicious and they definitely lived up to his recommendation. Cocktails '84 Pontiac Strawgroni Magic Window Dayvan Cowboy All the drinks were tasty but I think of all of them the Strawgroni was the most interesting. A nice blend of sweet and floral from the gin and a nice bitter from the Campari. On paper it sounded like it would pull too sweet but it was perfectly balanced. What we got for food Hokkaido Milk Rolls Foie Gras Torchon Gnocchi Mabolognese Washugyu NY Strip Dessert was a piece of their Five-spiced Carrot Cake. All the food was solid. A standout were the milk rolls and the foie gras. The milk rolls were so pillowy soft and spread with that black truffle butter, uhhh yeah! I think the foie gras was a standout as well. That quenelle of caramelized onion on top with that fatty foie gras was incredible. And the charred sourdough toast was perfect for it. For the steak, I think it was really good as well but not sure I'd order it again because of the price ($73.) is probably opt for 2 other dishes instead. The one thing I think that sounded better on paper was the five spiced carrot cake. Flavor was spot on but the texture was very dense. That along with the frosting between the two layers of cake was too solid, like how chilled butter would be. This place seems to be blowing up all over the Honolulu food scene, so my partner and I decided to give it a try. Located near Fete on Hotel street, Giovedi is a fancy-ish Asian fusion restaurant that's been around for a while seemingly under the radar. We made quick reservations online. We ordered the onion dip, Dan Mien Vietnam-Atriciana, and Mushroom Donburi. The onion dip was tasty, set in a goblet surrounded by extra-large, crispy, but not too thick shrimp chips. This was a tasty appetizer and the chip to dip ratio was spot on. The dip was well balanced, without any one flavor overpowering another. The Dan Mien Vietnam-Atriciana was a bit weird. Flat Asian noodles but in an Italian style sauce with lap xuong (lap cheong for some of you) was a mix of flavors I still don't know if I like or not. Good flavor, but a bit conflicting for my taste. The Mushroom Donburi was where this place shines. A variety of sautéed mushrooms, with crispy wild Italian black rice, over Japanese white rice, covered with freshly grated cheese, and pine nuts, it's totally worth ordering. The textures, flavors, and richness made this dish a winner. The meaty flavor of the mushroom will win over even the diehard carnivores with this seemingly vegetarian dish. We also got the Magic Window featuring local rum and citrus and Sun Chong Splash, a mix of vodka, lychee, Calpico and lemon. Both delightful. The restaurant does not appear to have air conditioning but does have fans for indoor seating along with a shared semi outdoor in the lobby space behind the restaurant, fete, and the Daley. Staff are polite, efficient, and refilled our waters constantly. Which was great. Parking in Chinatown can be questionable, but ample street parking exists with both private and municipal lots with varying prices per hour. read more

Giovedi has been making waves on social media and local food publications, so it's been high on my list for wanting to try. I finally did and it surpassed expectations. It's an Italian / Asian fusion concept in Chinatown, sharing a building courtyard and restrooms with other favorites (Daley, Pizza Mamo, Fete). On arrival I got to meet one of the owners Bao and a bartender friend who introduced us. The cocktail menu is special and came highly recommended if you're into those. We were here for dinner and mostly let it up to the server's recommendations, plus dishes I had heard about. We had the salad, which was a great portion of fresh mixed greens, shaved cheese, and crunchy pieces; the dressing was so light and flavorful. For our mains we shared the prosciutto, which was thinly sliced with cheese, served with puffed sesame donuts and a spicy pickle relish to make mini sandwiches. The pickles have my mouth watering thinking about them as I write. The other dish was the pasta with Dungeness Crab; again richer and more filling than it looked, the sauce did not mask the flavor of the crab. Atypical for me, we also shared a piece of the layered carrot cake a la mode. Not overly sweet, it was a great treat to finish. Our server was excellent, as was the other staff. Other diners seemed to be enjoying everything as well. Prices are reasonable, on the high side for the quality. The interior is one of the classic Chinatown exposed brick walls, with high ceilings, and cozy focused lighting on the tables. The liquor collection is along the right wall behind the bar. They also have outdoor seating in the courtyard. Parking is street or one of the nearby Chinatown garages. I told them that I had never been to Giovedi... they hadn't either... so, we went for a foodie adventure! We found free street parking. Loading zones are free after a certain time... like 6pm? We didn't have a reservation, so the staff scrambled around and let us sit at the bar, right in front of the meat slicing machine. We watched the chef carefully cut the prosciutto. Of course, we had to order it with Vietnamese Sesame Donuts. To eat, split the donut open, stuff it with prosciutto and top with pickled vegetables... delicious! One of the ladies likes shiso and ordered a pasta dish with shiso... she really liked it! I ordered the Grilled Kampachi... it had a fancy, rich butter sauce (vadouvan with buerre blanc). Judging from the photos posted on Yelp! and watching the service from the kitchen I am pretty sure every table orders the milk rolls. And I am definite that they are universally beloved. Soft and a little sweet and salty...warm...perfect with black garlic butter. Sure to be ordered time and again. Certainly by me. Just as amazing was the foie gras. A lovely and balanced presentation of flavors and the charred bread texture added more than I expected. The gnocchi and wagyu steak were also hits. Less was the carrot cake...flavor good...the candied ginger elevated it. But texture off for me. No big deal...I have a different dessert next go round. Been wanting to try Giovedi for over a year and FINALLY got to try Giovedi last night for Valentine's Day! There was a 9 course special going on for the night for $130 per person + $50 wine pairing per person. As much as my husband and I wanted to love this place, each dish we had was definitely "good" but unfortunately nothing "WOW-ed" us for the night, and for a $400 bill between the two of us, that was a bit steep for a spot that was just "good". The Italian and Asian fusion combo was definitely a cool mix and we've never tried such a unique palette. Oh man this review is super old (a few years, so shame) but gotta add it anyway because it was a memorable meal. It's a cute restaurant in downtown nearby Fete. Love the interior with the brick wall background and a fun bar near the entrance. The outside is pretty too and has an open patio dining area too but kinda warm in the summer. Service was good and everyone was friendly and helpful. Drinks were refreshing and unique- we tried the Strawbroni and the Magic Window. The highlights to us were the appetizers and I'm so glad we got so many to try. Hokkaido Milk Rolls were slightly crisp on top and the inside was soft, fluffy, and delicious with the black garlic butter- you have to try it. The absolute favorite was the onion dip and shrimp chips with caviar! So savory and rich and creamy with a good salt punch but not too much. Licked this one clean as lady-like as possible. We tried the foie gras with a fruity spread and sweet and tangy drizzle with the grilled bread and it was pretty plentiful so each bread was loaded up to the hilt. Prosciutto San Danielle was like a sesame donut that you could fill with a ton of salty thin sliced prosciutto and tangy giardineria. The mains we got were the Dan Mien Vietnam-Atriciana and the Gnocchi Mapolonese. Both were good but just didn't stand up to the appetizers. I think the Gnocchi Mapolonese had microgreens that tasted like cilantro which is an automatic no for me and I didn't know it would be in the dish or I would have not ordered it. The other pasta dish looked like it would be super flavorful but for some reason it didn't have a notable or craveable flavor. Maybe it needed more coating on the noodles. Came here for a celebration dinner because of the buzz and my brother has just tried it. We sat outside on the back deck, and even though there was danger of light sprinkles they didn't come and we could see the moon! They seated us about 30 minutes late (for an 8 pm reservation) and comped us with the onion dip--so delicious! But sad to say, the service although friendly, continued at that slow pace. By the end, we didn't even look at dessert because it was so late. The food was delicious and we tried just about everything on the menu because there were six of us and it was a celebration dinner. Portions small, but given how long we had to savor them, we couldn't finish the entrees when they came (and had some who just were ready to get to bed). Excellent service, our favorite was the wagyu so tender like biting into marrow. The tempura style veggies and the Hokkaido rolls were good. The mushroom dish was topped with a cool crispy rice like ingredient. The lobster was good but the spaghetti under it was cooked perfectly but had an unusual smell and was not spicy. Menu really not geared for kiddies. Only buttered pasta. Wish they offered gelato at least but Only 2 desserts on menu. We didn't care much for the carrot cake. The tiramisu was better. The kiddies left hungry as menu is geared for adults. There were 3 females servicing our table, the main server, one that brought the food and one that cleared the plates. When it started to rain they had an awning that moved over our heads. The server was on it and came around to wipe the drops off our table and replace the paper napkins. read more

The food was divine - unique with Asian fusion from many countries. My favorite was the spaghetti. The service was quick, they checked on us frequently. The restaurant itself is stunning with its decor, and comfortable both inside and outside. They brought me out a carrot cake slice for my birthday and the buttercream frosting may be the best I have ever had. The tiramisu was delicious and rich. Parking is manageable on the street. Giovedì has officially become one of our favorite restaurants on the island. My wife and I visited recently and were blown away by the entire experience-from the warm, attentive service to the stunning ambiance and absolutely incredible food. We started with the Nairagi Crudo, a beautifully balanced dish with Calabrian chili crisp, Castelvetrano olives, and mint. Every bite was bright, clean, and full of flavor. The Foie Gras Torchon followed, paired perfectly with caramelized onion, vino cotto, and olive oil toast-rich, silky, and truly memorable. For our mains, the Gnocchi Mabolognese was a standout. The beef cheek ragù with doubanjiang and whipped tofu created a deep, flavorful twist on a classic, and the gnocchi themselves were pillowy perfection. We also enjoyed the Grilled Kampachi, expertly cooked and beautifully complemented by vadouvan, beurre blanc, and dill-delicate, savory, and absolutely delicious. We paired our meal with Erbaluce, which matched wonderfully with the variety of dishes, adding a crisp, refreshing brightness that elevated each course. To finish, the Five-Spice Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting and ginger gelato was comforting, elevated, and the perfect finale to a flawless meal. Everything about Giovedì shines. Had a reservation for Saturday night with a group of friends and it was so yummy! Service was a bit slow, the only table they had for us was outside so it was super hot, and the fans outside weren't working, but most of the food was great. We really enjoyed the hokkaido milk bread with garlic butter (got three orders for the table), the onion dip, and the tiramisu. Price: $100 per person. $$$. Good portion to share. 4 stars. Ambiance: interesting space. The front area with a few tables and bar settings does not have A/c. The patio or main dining hall is spacious, with other office doors and stairway. It transports you from Metropolitan to the back alley of Asia. Wooden table with nice dinning sets give a feeling of upscale farm dining. They do have a/c in the main dining hall. 4 stars. Location: Chinatown. Apparently, private car is not allowed to drive on Hotel street (only city bus allowed!) Parking is a bit difficult. 3 stars. Meals: pan-asian and Italian fusion. There are some interesting choices. Checking process 3 stars. What we ordered: - scallop carpaccio ($23): very yummy. Scallop is very fresh and smooth texture, melted in your mouth, topped with pistachios, orange, fried shallots... and we tasted fish sauce. It's reminiscence of vietnamese dish, bánh beo with scallops instead of gelatinous rice cake. - foie gras torchon ($34): foi gras with olive toast and balsamic reduction. It is another favorite of the meal. - green salad ($19): if you must have your greens, this is it. Butter lettuce, endives and jicama mixed with light sherry vinaigrette, large enough for 2-3 persons. - Dan mien Vietnam- atriciana ($30): egg noodle, lap xuong, pickled peppers, fish sauce and topped with pecorino Romano cheese. If you can take spicy,this it not for you. - spaghetti AOP ($26): simple but tasty with garlic, olive oil and peppercorn. - mushroom Donburi ($29): this is our favorite dish. White rice, fried black rice, saute mushroom and pecorino Romano cheese. Somehow, they are all mixed and exploded in your mouth! - grilled kampachi ($38): well cooked fish with tender meat and crispy skin, served with vadouvan which is a french inspired curry sauce, beurre blanc and dill. It's a well executed dish but needs a punch in flavor. - Deserts: we tried both tiramisu and five spice carrot cake. Tiramisu is my auntie's favorite desert. She has tried tiramisu around Oahu and she likes Mrs. Tran's. The five spice carrot cake is interesting take on Chinese/Vietnamese mooncake. Thick dough likes mooncake, five spice, cranberry, pine nuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, cheese frosting between layers of the cake and served with ginger gelato. We can't decide to like and dislike the dish! Final verdict: my cousin and auntie like this place and will come back. It is definitely worth to check it out. For the rest of us, it is an experience but not a destination. read more
