My husband and I decided to go to Beastside Kitchen because the reviews were so good. Yelp never steers us wrong and Beastside was no exception! It was absolutely worth the hype. From the warm and friendly service to the delicious Hawaii local beers, we were impressed. When the food came out, we were blown away. We started with the Pork Belly Bao Buns...oh my gosh, we could have made a meal out of just those! The pork belly was juicy and soft and with the sauce and fluffy bao buns...they will be something I dream of when we leave Hawaii. We then shared the two choice platter with the Guava fried chicken and Umami Garlic Shrimp. It was soooo good and the reviews were spot on. We were full and completely happy by the time we left! Pretty frustrated with this experience. It was a busy Friday night, and by around 10 PM we still hadn't had dinner. We checked Yelp and saw that this place was listed as open until midnight. We also looked at the menus on their website, and the dinner menu specifically says it's served from 3 PM to close, so we drove about 25 minutes expecting to be able to eat. We were actually really excited to try it based on the Yelp ratings and reviews, especially since several items on the menu -- like the pork belly -- sounded great. When we arrived around 10:30 PM, though, the restaurant looked closed. We double-checked the posted hours and decided to go in anyway, only to be told immediately that the kitchen was already closed. It was disappointing to drive that far late at night based on the posted hours and menu information, only to find out food service had ended much earlier than expected. read more

Located in Niu Valley Shopping Center where The Sty used to be. Plenty of free uncovered parking. At 8:00 pm we were Welcomed warmly by hostess/server and made sure we chose where we wanted to sit and be comfortable. They had a big party going on so those booths/tables along wall were taken. There are also high top tables but we chose to sit at the bar. Restaurant is chill with booths, tables, u-shaped bar. Great food, full bar with specialty cocktails and love it because pure local vibe, plenty chee-hoos and aloha spirit with no rude patrons. Lots of regulars, plenty from Nalo side so it's good fun! Menu is classic local and love all the choices for pupu, main, and even desserts. This time enjoyed their Teri beef burger which comes with either crispy delicious fries or green salad and choice of dressing- I loved the oriental one. Burger is on warm soft bun and chock full of lettuce, tomato, cheese so ono! Our bartender was Amanda and she was awesome! Concocted some great martinis for us having to sub items but we had a great time because despite the bar being busy she made sure we weren't parched lol and made sure we had what we needed. Other bartenders also checked in with us - and made sure our plates were cleared, had more water, refreshed our drinks. If you're looking for a quiet place around 8:00 pm, don't come here. The place is very loud with music and people laughing and enjoying themselves. You may have to shout your order to be heard. Then at 9:30 the DJ comes on and dancing happens. It's a small dance floor but still fun! They post a bouncer at door to charge a cover. Kitchen closes around 10:00, but Amanda was nice to let us know a few minutes before incase we wanted dessert. They close at midnight on weekends. I've heard good things about this place so I got takeout on the way to the beach. The guava bbq chicken seems to be a favorite but I was feeling more like the ginger scallion chicken so I got that. I chose kimchi as the side instead of macaroni salad to be healthier. The person up front was friendly and inside the restaurant looked like a nice place to dine in. The ginger scallion chicken was a "hot" version meaning it wasn't cold like the usual way. It has a subtle different taste being marinated in the guava bbq sauce. Overall it is what you would expect it to taste like. The kimchi was pretty good and in between fresh and sour. Another person got the shrimp and bbq chicken combo and that looked good. It could be renamed Sunset ( you will drown if you go in the ocean after consuming this Beast ) as it is a hefty sandwich: 1/3 lb. Wagyu patty, fried egg, bacon, and cheese, with aioli on the side. My first time there, met with some family members for an early 4th of July breakfast and was totally surprised! It's laid-back and comfortable. I ordered the pork adobo fried rice topped with 2 eggs. I couldn't believe the huge portion and took home enough for 2 more meals! It was also very tasty, with generous pieces of adobo, eggs does exactly as I wanted. We were seated immediately, ordered quickly and the food was brought to us so fast! The restaurant was almost full too. Food was amazing, my favorite was the pork belly bao and the shoestring fries! The pastele stew was good too but I do wish the meat was chunks of pork butt or belly instead of ground meat. Flavor was spot on though. We got the shrimp, pork belly, and guava chicken and none of them disappointed! Garlic umami shrimp is soooo good and flavorful. Waitress said since they deep fry it, you can eat the shell of the shrimp. Definitely try it, half our table liked it better w the shell on because more flavor. We felt a little lazy yesterday so we decided to get takeout from Beastside Kitchen. This place was recommended to me by a family member, however, I had never tried it before. I was very excited by the photos and menus online. We called to place an order, and our food was ready for pickup in about 20 minutes. I don't like to start a review negatively, but I was very disappointed because they forgot our poke. I had been craving it all day, and it was the first thing that we ordered on the phone, so I was sad to see it missing. That being said, the other food was still good. We ultimately got the shrimp plate with kimchi and mac salad, the kimchi tofu, and the garlic umami fries. I don't usually like mac salad, but this was the first place where I found myself reaching for seconds. The tofu was yummy, and it was very seasoned and flavorful with the kimchi. My favorite was the fries--they were so crispy, even though we ordered it takeout. The fry sauces I recommend ordering on the side; I think it helped preserve the crispiness. Plus, the fries themselves are already very seasoned, so I didn't even need the sauces. Overall, it was a good experience. Maybe I can come back and try the poke another day.
