Honestly- I'm pretty impressed. I stay in the immediate area for about 2 weeks each month, and with the weather around here, I found myself getting pale pretty quickly! We have been going to Ship Shape for the last 2 years and have found it to be the best Vancouver has to offer for the following reasons; -EASY to understand tanning packages; Whether we want to purchase tans by-the-minute or ona per-visit basis they have several flexible packages. -NO long term commitment unlike other places that demand you put a credit card on file and commit to a long-term deal; -SUPER clean 100% of the time -VERY friendly staff that doesn't try to rope you into spending any more than you wish but is always happy to provide you with all of the information you need about the different options available. I had a really ROUGH time here. I was going for my first 'person done' air brush tanning. I was expecting to be welcomed, to be shown the room, and to be warmly talked through about the process. I was nervous, and the lady was rude, rash, and in a hurry. She kept rolling her eyes at me when I would tell her my needs or when I told her the lotion was out. The room itself was scary. It is a tiny, gross, outdated closet. The lights were bright, and the "shower" that you step in made me think that there was a potential for creep to be spying on me through the cracks in the wall. During the spray tan, as I am stark naked, the lady refused to engage me in any conversation or laugh at any of my jokes- LADY! I am naked here and trying to relax! Laugh or talk or do something besides rush me through and roll your eyes. Now the tan. IT WAS AWFUL. I had spots where she did not get and I was ORANGE. I was way too dark, and I looked like a freak. I have gone to the machine spray tans often and been satisfied with the results. This was bad and the process of it coming off was even worse. Overall, the lady was a complete B-----, and the place was gross. read more

I have been going to Ship Shape tanning for about 2 years, though I have never gotten a spray tan myself, I have bought quite a few for my best friend, she LOVES them, have never looked orange or splotched. The customer service is top notch. The prices are great and the tanning beds are wonderful. If you want a mediocre, WAY overpriced spray tan, this is your place! Fifty bucks...plus another 15 if you want "the good stuff" and they charge for the stickies to keep your feet from getting orange. Nice! I've had lots of spray tans and this one, besides being overpriced, was quite lame. The quality was just decent, not great, especially for 80 bucks? It wasn't really smooth, it didn't develop much, and it was gone too quickly. If I hadn't been pressed for time I would've shopped around. I am neurotic about skin care and know how to care post-spray. But not this one! Now, literally only 5 days later, the glare from my whitey girl legs could take down a plane. Sheri saved me! I live in California and came up to Washington for a wedding. I'm in the wedding so I wanted to be tan and look nice. I went to the salon I'm a member at in CA for a spray tan (I hadn't done a spray tan since my junior year of high school, 10 years ago). I followed the directions perfectly and left thinking I would be tan.... wrong!! The only part of me that was tan was a couple of giant orange blotches on my left arm. Not pretty!!!! When I got to Vancouver I started yelping tanning places in the area and called ship shape. I described my nightmare and Sheri told me to soak the blotches in lemon juice and come in the next morning when the salon opened. Lemon juice didn't work on this orange mess. The next morning I went to ship shape and she said she had never seen anything like it before. She told me a couple different options and decided to airbrush tan me (first time for that). Long story short, I'm tan! It looks perfect! The blotches are blending in pretty well. Sheri is a miracle worker!! Unfortunately I can't be a member here but I will be back whenever I come to Washington. I chose Ship Shape Tanning after researching best spray tan in Portland. Lucky for me this place has great reviews and its close to my house. So I did all of things the woman said on the phone when I made the appointment as well as followed the tips I read online. I wore no makeup, used no lotions or creams for 24 hours. I shaved and exfoliated with warm water and a washcloth. This was my first spray tan. I was warmly greeted by a friendly woman, filled out a consent form, watched a video. I was shown a room with the spray booth and the instructions were reviewed. The spray process was super easy. I would have changed the temperature. It was seriously freezing. I was shaking with cold by end. I wore loose clothes home. I did a level one based on her recommendation, but it was so light that it was difficult to see much tan, so next time I will try level two. Overall it was a super positive experience. I highly recommend this place. read more

Awesome place! They not only have multiple regular beds but have multiple high pressure beds as well. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Rooms all have their own sound systems so you can listen to whatever music you like while tanning or doing red light therapy. The rooms are also very clean. Friendly staff, great daily hours, and plenty of beds so no appointment is necessary.You will get the standard upsells so bring your own lotion and goggles or you'll pay a few bucks extra.I do appreciate that they also have just a leg tanner as my poor legs hadn't seen the light of day in so many months! Had an airbrush tan done here and really loved it! Looked great, I wasn't "Snooki" orange, wasn't streaky. I've tried home spray tans, booth spray tans and airbrush tans done at other places, all of which have had their downsides. The airbrush I had done at SS was the best! I do have to say (after reading odd previous reviews) that in my experience with airbrushes at ANY tanning salon, the tan wears off as the skin flakes off. Unless you are a snake that sheds all your skin in one fell swoop, the tan WILL wear off unevenly and it's not the fault of any salon. In my experience, SS did a great job, they were very informative about how to best care for my tan, and I will absolutely be back! read more
