Our brother sold his condo in Arlington, VA in June of 2013. Due to his medical condition and being single, his three siblings had to handle the sale and logistics of the move, all from out of state. He was nice enough to offer family members any items they wanted and the remaining items were donated to the Am Vets. We had three shipments for family members going to three separate addresses. Two weeks before we had to vacate the condo, the moving company we had originally engaged backed out of the deal. We needed a moving company quickly and contacted Mayflower. They told us the total weight was below their minimum and would be cost prohibitive. They recommended Ship Smart in Altos, CA. a company that handles smaller moves. We sure are glad that they did. In less than ten days we were able to obtain contracts and estimates and pack up the shipments. There were constant communications during this short time and Ship Smart was always quick to respond and resolve any issue. They were even able to handle flawlessly an address change less than 2 days before the move. Ship Smart contracted with Blake Movers out of Rockville, MD to handle the actual packing and ABF Transports for the shipping. The three gents from Blake did an outstanding job of packing the items and put them on pallets right in the truck. They were extremely customer oriented and friendly and worked hard and efficiently. We also needed to have a multitude of items carried down three flights of stairs to put out for the Am Vets. It took them over two hours and they did it with no problems. They were also very diligent about all the paperwork to ensure the shipments were correct. All three shipments arrived within the planned time window. ABF called three days before the actual delivery date so all arrangements could be made. All shipments were in great shape and the ABF drivers were very professional. We made a few changes in two of the shipments, but the actual costs were very close to the estimates. There were no hidden costs. We were all very anxious about the move, especially since we were out of state and had only one weekend when we could all be there. So, if you have small loads to move anywhere in the USA, we highly recommend Ship Smart. Unprofessional Customer Service Experience During Final Payment and Move Scheduling My recent experience with Ship Smart customer service during the final payment and move scheduling process left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. As a customer who had hoped for a smooth and stress-free move, the unprofessional behavior exhibited by the customer service representative was both surprising and disheartening. Upon reaching the final payment stage, I had a clear and reasonable request: to have my shipment delivered before I left for a scheduled vacation. Given ample notice, I believed that this would be a straightforward arrangement, especially considering the commitments I had made with the company. However, the customer service representative's response was far from the professionalism I had expected. Rather than acknowledging my valid concerns and working to find a solution, the representative's attitude was dismissive and indifferent. My repeated attempts to explain the importance of my requested delivery date fell on deaf ears, as the representative seemed more interested in rushing through the conversation rather than addressing my concerns. This lack of empathy and disregard for a paying customer's needs was deeply disheartening. Feeling unheard and frustrated, I decided to escalate the matter by speaking to upper management. While I had hoped that the management team would take my concerns seriously and address the unprofessional behavior of their employee, even this step did not yield the desired results. The response from upper management was lukewarm at best, and it was clear that the issue was not being treated with the urgency it deserved. As a customer, I believe that it's essential to be treated with respect and professionalism throughout the entirety of a business interaction, especially when dealing with a service as significant as moving one's belongings. Unfortunately, my experience with Ship Smart fell far short of these expectations. The lack of accountability and responsiveness displayed by both the customer service representative and upper management left me feeling frustrated and undervalued. In conclusion, my customer service experience with Ship Smart during the final payment and move scheduling was far from satisfactory. 2/27/13 I received a response from the owner of Ship Smart regarding my horrid review of the service I received. He was very concerned, nice and offered a partial refund for my over-payment. I will update this review once I receive the check. One thing i will say is that I am impressed with the care and concern I received from John, the owner. Also, I learned a lot about moving companies from this experience - especially what to look for and ask prior to hiring any company. Finally, there are two sides to every story. Mine is that I was (and still am) an emotional wreck...there are several things I ought to have done to ensure that I received the services originally promised... Let's just say that I was in no position to relocate across the country, nor could I stay on top of much, aside from getting here. I needed to move twelve nineteenth century antique dining chairs from Phoenix, AZ to Jackson, WY. Because the chairs carry a high-value, they recommended, and I agreed, to have them crated. Not only did Ship Smart give me a great price, but they also kept me in the loop and informed me when the shipment was crated and when it was anticipated to arrive in Jackson. I gave them dates that I wouldn't be available to take delivery and they made a note of them in my profile. They worked worked around my schedule. The driver called me when I expected to hear from him, and we coordinated when to off-load the 370 lbs wooden crate. Initially I was nervous that he would leave it at the top of my driveway, (on a hilll with snow expected momentarily), but he didn't. He met me at the designated time and put the huge crate in the garage for me at no extra charge. He even told me what tool I needed to open it - and had I had it on hand, I'm sure (even though I didn't pay extra for opening it), that he would have helped me do so. Needless to say, the crate arrived in perfect condition. I signed for it as "uninspected", but opened it that afternoon. The chairs were impeccably packed and padded and strapped down with padding all around and between the chairs. There was not one bit of damage to any of them. I was thrilled! Would I recommend Ship Smart - you bet I would...and I have. I recommended them to the upholstery place in Phoenix that reupholstered the chairs, and to the design firm in Jackson were I purchased the seating material. We shipped five items using Ship Smart's white-glove service. Initially, we received an estimate, and my sister sent the five items. However, after shipping, we were informed of a significant price increase due to the option of crating. This unexpected adjustment felt unfair and left me questioning the transparency of the process. Despite our dissatisfaction, we decided to proceed. The items arrived in excellent condition, and the moving company outsourced by Ship Smart handled the delivery well. However, upon arrival, the movers informed me that the white-glove service did not include assembly. While they generously offered to assemble the items for free, I declined, as it was not part of what we paid for. This was disappointing, as I expected assembly to be included given the premium price of the white-glove service. My experience with Shipsmart was excellent every step of the way from a storage cell in northern NJ to Dallas. I did my homework from the start - gathered estimates from various companies (they were all the same ballpark figure, so I knew that Shipsmart was competitive); appointing an agent (my brother) in NJ to oversee the packing/pickup; properly insuring the shipment; and working together with the Shipsmart rep to ensure that expectations were discussed and clarified in advance. Everything worked like clockwork. My brother - who is a very focused stickler for accuracy - gave me a glowing report about the ease with which the NJ packers followed his instructions and worked to ensure that our family heirlooms were properly secured. The shipment arrived in Dallas exactly according to the timetable that Shipsmart had promised. When the pleasant young delivery man came with the truck to unload at our home, he took extra time to back the truck up into the narrow alley, allowing me to deposit the pallet directly in our garage. Upon inspection I saw that the packing was fantastic - no damage to any items whatsoever. And, needless to say, the inventory list matched the shipment. I found Ship Smart,online, and contacted them by 800 number. After a short interview about the items to be shipped I was given an estimate and the option of dropping the items to be shipped directly to the shipper. We opted to deliver to the shipper. The shipping company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania took the items and confidently told us they would package everything for shipping. Several days later I was contacted by a local shipping company asking for an appointment time to deliver the items. The palletized, wrapped and strapped items were dropped off by a courteous driver. The packaging of our goods impressed me. There was little doubt the contents of the pallet were in pristine condition. After unpacking the contents, which included a seventy-year-old chest of drawers, an end table and a butcher-block table, everything was found in ideal shape. I would not hesitate to use Ship Smart again for shipping small quantities. I would also recommend Ship Smart to any of my friends or family for the small quantity shipping needs. We had a black walnut bedroom set to be picked up in Sacramento, CA and delivered to us in the Seattle area. We had no experience with having things moved this way, but we knew (after checking) that it would have cost more for us to rent a U-Haul and do the job ourselves. We were told that the furniture was picked up on time and the folks who picked it up were very professional. We checked on progress periodically and were pleased when the furniture arrived in very good time. We were called to arrange delivery, and the delivery was made on time and according to some specific instructions, since our place is difficult to access. We were so surprised to find one large-ish crate instead of the 4 individual pieces we knew were coming. Once we opened the box, we were truly amazed at how carefully and thoroughly each piece was wrapped to protect it from any damage during shipping. Given the need for this kind of shipping in the future, there is no question that our first call would be to Ship Smart. I wrote my initial review of Ship Smart on September 19th. On September 21st, Matt Jarrell from the Sales Department reached out to me by email to offer an apology for the situation I described. I was floored ! Matt correctly summarized the situation and the steps leading to the misunderstanding and then offered to reinstate the original quote plus insurance. What floored me was that in this day and age, when it's so easy for companies to vilify the customer, perpetuating their victimization, Matt chose a more honorable way to resolve the issue. He apologized for the mistake made and honored the original understanding I had with Ship Smart. Matt was clear to state that his company is likened to a close-knit family who prides itself on providing the best possible customer service. My daughter moved from Phila area to LA recently and I assisted her in moving her belongings. Doing this type of thing on line is a whole new experience for me and I was apprehensive about the whole process. I contacted Shp Smart and spoke to a courteous (and very patient ) gentleman who e-mailed me a quote within 24 hours. Unbeknown to me, my daughter had also selected Ship Smart for a quote, and the quotes we each received were identical. This may not mean much to some but, to me, that is a very good sign that this company is legitimate and well managed. Everything from beginning to end went smoothly. The local carrier, Navis Shipping, was prompt and efficient. The two gentlemen who came for the initial pick up were courteous and even called - as promised - to let me know they were on their way. We initially spoke to them on Tuesday July 26th. Less than 24 hours later the desk we were shipping was picked up at my sisters house in Davie, Florida. The desk was not in a box or crate. The desk was sent to the warehouse where it was very professionally and very securely wrapped and placed on a pallet. Literally seven days later the desk was in our home in Cincinnati, Ohio. While the speed and professional wrapping were important, the very best thing were the people I spoke to. No voice mails and no answering machines. Every time I spoke to someone they answered the phone and made sure everything was taken care of. I packed my things and the movers arrived on schedule and were very fast and careful with my boxes. Once I arrived on the other coast, they called to confirm a delivery date. They were very flexible with the delivery date and stated they could hold my things until I was able to receive them which was great for me as I had to find a place to live! Once settled, I called ShipSmart and my things were delivered in a few days per my choice. Ship Smart did a fantastic job shipping the contents of my apartment from San Francisco to Colorado. I was concerned that my items would go through 3 different handlers (the people who picked it up, the shippers, and the people who delivered it), but everything arrived in perfect condition. They packed it all in crates which was way more secure than what a typical moving company would have done. The primary contact there went on vacation just prior to my move, but another person looked up my information and was able to answer my questions as if I had been working with her all along. I had a wonderful experience with shipsmart. Not only did were they helpful when I called them (and trust me, I called quite a few times!), but they were always very kind. I moved my things from south Florida to Chicago and while I didn't have furniture, I did have quite a few boxes and other things. They were able to accommodate all of my belongings, including my bicycle. It took less time then they quoted for my things to arrive and they were kind enough to help me get my belongings into my storage space at no extra charge (although I did give the driver a nice tip). I was concerned about getting our "personal" belongings out of storage in Georgia to our present residence in Oregon. it was a "small' amount and I was concerned about the affordability. I was referred to Ship Smart by a large moving company. I could not image this transaction going any smoother. The estimate they gave me happened to be right on. And that price enabled me to get our things from the east coast to the west coast. they also told me it could be 2-3 weeks to do this.
