So many issues. Starters, all employees sound like they are on drugs, very often out of items at the beginning of the day, because insert excuse as to why they just haven't gotten it done yet. The final straw was ordering a cold brew coffee with no ice was informed that they would not fill the cup up to the top because of no ice meeting they had to give me more coffee, no kidding you had to give me more coffee that's literally why I don't want ice in the cup... just tired of this place. Shipley makes some of my favorite donuts. Being from Texas, I grew up on these and always a work favorite. I don't really like donuts that much, but their glaze donuts are great. Also the Kolaches are awesome. My favorite is the jalapeño cheese one. There is something special about the dough they use for the kolaches that just makes them so tasty. We went here a week ago and we're not big into donuts but went because our little girl asked for one. We went in first thing we were greeted by this young gentlemen who was beyond gracious to our daughter. And asked her what her favorite color was and gave her a little donut hole. Just because his graciousness we ended up buying a dozen donuts, and like I said we're not big donut people but the donuts were amazing...so soft, we had some that had incredible tasting custard. I need to go back again, I ordered a half dozen donuts- but a bunch that I wanted to try (coconut) were not included in the dozen... hmmm. A little confusing. I completely understand long johns and apple fritters and any oversized donuts being extra. One of the other things is that the cake donuts are in the case at the counter, while the filled and regular donuts are in the case on the wall. So you need to look at everything. I am determined to go back and try those handful of donuts that were on my list! My half dozen box consisted of a devils food chocolate filled donut, an apple filled donut, strawberry jelly filled, buttermilk cake, blueberry cake & chocolate filled. The chocolate filled and devils food were almost identical. The apple- usually one of my favs- was too sweet with the glaze. Cake donuts were superb! And it's hard to go wrong with jelly! I grew up in Houston Tx where Shipley donuts began. I have eaten at several Shipley donuts all over the USA. I can say this will all honesty. the Shipley donut in Jacksonville Fl makes the WORST. The texture is nothing like the other stores and the flavor tastes weird. Five stars for the donut, one for the coffee, and three for service. I stopped in for a snack and grabbed a chocolate sprinkle donut and iced coffee. Very reasonable prices and the donut was really good; better than its companion from Dunkin'. The iced coffee was abysmal. It was watery, bitter, and had almost a half inch of grounds in the bottom. Listen--my experience is going to be mixed but I'm basing my rating on the product and maybe my experience is a one-off. The selection of donuts is great, you'll find solid classics like at Dunkin' but nothing out of the box like you'll find at Good Dough (just apples vs oranges). A sausage and cheese and a sausage and cheese bold. I got them in the same bag with no identification. So not sure what i ate. Mine was ok. My wife's was undercooked and the dough was raw. Bottom Line: If you like The Donut Shoppe (which is their only rival in town) then you'll like Shipley's. I was born in Houston where the franchise started. When I moved here and went to the Donut Shoppe, I thought "Wow! These are just like Shipleys!" They taste like a baker made the doughnuts, rather than a factory, like Dunkin. The only downside is that the older they are, the less good they taste, but that shows they make them well. And they are not on my side of town. Chocolate icing: Most doughnut places do not have chocolate icing. What they do is add brown food coloring to their icing and label it 'chocolate icing.' My new favorite donut spot in Jax. Comparable to the style of donut at Five Daughters Bakery if you've been there. I went around 10:30 am on a Sunday, and they had a HUGE selection. Friendly staff, good iced coffee and huge array of donuts. Got 1 and a half dozen + a bear claw and an iced coffee with hazelnut. Maybe I got a bad batch or maybe it's just me but these donuts have a weird oil taste. It leaves a really strange aftertaste.

Every donut shop tells you that are the bestdonut shop in town. But, sometimes they don't live up to their name. well, in the case of Shipley's, that was so not the case. I had been seen reviews and pictures pop up on Yelp, so when I was in the area, I had to stop by and check them out. I was able to walk up and order inside, since I had a little bit of time. I chose the Shipley's kolache with a hot dog and melted cheese filling, The cherry frosted donut, in a medium coffee with cream and sugar. Everything was out to me within a matter of minutes, and I was quickly able to check out. All of the employees were super friendly and assisted me quickly. When I bid into the collage, it was such a delicious treat. It was full of cheese it had plenty of meat and I quickly consumed it. The breading was really unique, almost like the dough was handmade. It remind me of when my mom used to make pigs in a blanket. I quickly scarfed down the donut too, which was full of flavor and had a crispiness to it that I really liked. The coffee tastes amazing, and I am slowly drinking on it in my car. I was really impressed with my visit and would highly recommend them. read more

Enjoyed the variety of yeast and cake donuts. Also the option of the Cinnamon Roll fried or baked (old fashioned). We enjoyed the donuts (cherry donut with sprinkles was a welcome new option too).
