I've been coming here for a couple years and I'm upset to say that I'm never coming back for the following reasons: I brought a friend to try this place out, gave him my word it's a good shop. My friend specifically said he only wanted a haircut and nothing done to his beard. At the end of the hair cut the barber (I think they called him little Alex/Arthur something like that) , said "let me trim up a few stragglers in your mustache and line up your beard" my friend told him no but the barber insisted. So my friend let him and afterwards this barber tried up charging him for beard service which is like $20-30 more (ridiculous price even if you wanted it). My friend told him that he never wanted it and he was being pushy to let him mess with his beard. So he ended up only paying for the haircut and never came back. Pulling shady things like sneaking that is a sure way to push away clients. I feel bad for other people he bullied into more services. I usually got my hair cut in the mornings and barbers would be already a few beers in. I'm all for day drinking but not while you're on the clock and cutting hair, plus it's 9am. Once in a while one of them would buy a bottle of tequila from the liquor shop on the corner and they'd all do shots in front of everyone. Like what are you celebrating at 9am on a Wednesday with shots? Go to an AA meeting. It's disgusting how they treat kids. I've seen little dudes sitting in booster seats while their parents are sitting on the couches up front unknowing that the barbers are cussing up a storm and talking about chicks they're hooking up with. And they're GRAPHIC about positions, what the girls body looked like and MUCH more. I don't care if you wanna play gossip at work but don't be an idiot and talk like that in front of little ones. Their prices go up every couple months for... nothing. Nothing changes. Quality was (and still is) worse. They don't seem to care about their reputation. Most of them bring in their lame little tiktok equipment and think because they have 30 followers they can charge $40+ for a haircut. The shop's instagram is filled with cringey videos to get people in. If they focused on quality instead of putting out dog-water TikTok's they could bounce back. Some barbers bring their "service pitbulls" into the shop. But real service dogs don't jump on clients in the middle of haircuts and get into dog fights with other barbers "service dogs". Then they're to chickensh$t to break up the dog fights. If you can't be responsible to train them, don't bring them. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs but there's a time and place for them. Now the owner. Lord almighty. He charges the most because he's "running shop" for just the same quality his employees do. When he's not busy promoting his GF's onlyfans he's just sitting in a chair talking badly about other employees and which ones he has to move around to avoid letting them go. It was a cool shop a few years ago and the people were great. But when you stop caring about your shop, it shows. I've found another shop that's half the price and twice the quality. It's much farther but definitely worth it. read more

I foolishy thought I was going to grow dreds, so I had went like 1.5 years without a hair cut or a beard trim. I looked like a crazy homeless dude. I came to my senses and made an appointment with Jake. I know this is his job, but I can't thank him enough, I actually look like a human again. I had to be a top 5 worst heads of hair he's seen lol. I didn't even know what to do with my beard so I left it up to him and he killed it. I won't be waiting almost 2 years to get a cut again, and I'll definitely be sticking with Jake as my barber now. The atmosphere in here is worth the visit on its own. The staff are so very kind and make you feel welcomed immediately. I'm usually an anxious person, but I felt relaxed so quickly around Jake and Chris. I got my hair cut by Chris, and he did an amazing job. I'm someone who never really knows what they want for their hair, but Chris was willing to work with me and gave his own suggestions for my hair type. I was wanting to do something different and he helped me figure out what would look good. I don't think I've ever had a barber be as helpful! Was looking for a good barbershop here in Riverside and saw the very high rating here at Shipwreck. Made an appointment with "Isaac" early in the morning and once I got there I still had to wait about 25-35 minutes. Oh well, whatever. Waited my turn and got seated. The shop had about 4 other barbers including a female barber. I mention the female barber because as soon as she left, the rest of the "team" started to talk down on her!? Just the whole shop being toxic and downright disrespectful. They all simmered down and then an older man comes in with a case full of blades and knife's and I suppose the shop knew him since they all stopped cutting hair and went to go take a look at what the man had to offer. Mmmm alright I guess I'll just wait for my barber Isaac to come back and cut hair when he feels like it. SMH. Asked for a Low Drop Fade but he was busy on Instagram when I was telling him and then he shows me the "funny videos" Shipwreck does at the shop. Okay buddy I don't care just give me my cut that I ASKED FOR. Every few minutes he would stop cutting to look down on his phone, doing who knows what. I'm thinking to myself this dude must be on d###s because wtf? He finally finished the cut and hands me the mirror and the cut was NOT what I asked for. He gave me a TAPER!?? At this point I just wanted out. Paid the dude and STILL gave him a tip, even though I wish I didn't!! Looking at the reviews on Yelp AND Google, most of the negative reviews are because of the "Barber" "ISAAC". Why does he still work here? He is single-handedly DAMAGING the Shipwreck name. I've been getting haircuts almost weekly for 20+ years now as a military person. Never have I once been cut. Well over 1000+ haircuts first time someone cut me with clippers, and on the top of my ear not even on my head. I told the barber Exactly how I wanted my hair cut but he did his "own" style and butchered my hair. Didn't cut it how I told him. I rarely leave bad reviews but with haircuts it's something that can take weeks to grow back and get your style back. I probably got the worst barber there, the other ones looked very good. I took my son in today for his haircut. We had an appointment and they didn't know who was going to take him. I sat in the waiting area while my son was getting his haircut. It took almost an hour. After I paid and left, my son complained that the guy who cuts his hair didn't speak English and need his coworker to translate. When we went outside and look at his haircut, he has razor burn all over the back and side of his head,it was so awful. I feel so bad that I took my son here, he has prom in less than 2 weeks. His hair was so short, his sides and back was completely shaved. They should fade the sides and back, not shave him completely. I think this guys is new and doesn't know how to cut hair. They charged $40 for men's cut but my son looks like a nerd. We pay less somewhere else but does a way better job. We didn't have time to go to his normal salon. I've long been clueless about hair, I used to just let it grow for 6-18 months at a time and ask my barber to give me whatever generic cut, when decided to grow a beard and had to eventually go to barber shops for trims to look presentable; I went through a few. Most barbers don't have the acumen that those at shipwreck do, particularly Jake, after my first appointment w/ Jake; I've decided I no longer need to look around for a barber and to actually schedule regular appointments.
