I went here two days ago and my goal was to eat something different and i really didn't realize that this place was Yemeni I found out from a Instagram and Yelp Buddy. When I arrived it was 2:30pm on a Friday the place was empty so I had my waiter all to myself. I was given Hot Bread with two dips one being Garlic Sauce which was really good and the other which I called a Salsa but I found out its called Red Sauce it was very good also. I ordered a Lemonade its Fresh Squeezed with Orange Juice but its a slushy drink omg sooo good all I needed was a shot of Tequila to go in it! I ordered from the Lunch menu lunch is 11 until 4 I got the Shawarma Lamb and Rice it comes with Fries or Rice, Salad or Soup I chose a Salad it was very fresh right amount of dressing I loved the salad more than anything. The Lamb was good it didn't wow me but it was good the rice had some lovely crunchy nuts maybe those were almonds not sure but i want more! The place is clean the service was good i felt comfortable and I'll definitely go back real soon! Oh and you get a decent amount of food and the house salad is a decent size i got full off salad and bread and brought the rice and lamb home. We absolutely LOVE Shish Palace. It's much more convenient when we can eat inside (because my kids INHALE the garlic and bread) and it becomes quite pricey when we have to order carry out. Our absolute favorite is the Hummus with Chicken entree. But... the amount of chicken you get for the price is really not worth it, even though it is FANTASTIC. I've tried a few times to order extra of "just the chicken" but for some reason it always ends up being different. My only complaints, as petty as they may be (this place TRULY is delicious) would be - make that chicken from "hummus with chicken" available, without the hummus! On the very rare occasion I've ordered 2 or 3"chicken with hummus" entrees just for the chicken and it still wasn't enough nest, with most of the hummus going to waste as well.. And at almost $18, we can't order 'enough' for me and my 3 kids who absolutely devour that amazing chicken. And.... give us a break on the bread when we eat inside, we're not charged $5 per basket and this is one of the things that deters me from ordering 5 times a week. I totally understand that you can't just give it away but we always have to order more for a carryout, and it adds $15 - $20 to our already pricey order. One of my go-to restaurants when I'm looking for Arabic food. To be fair, I always end up ordering a shawarma or kofta, so I haven't thoroughly explored their menu. This place CONSISTENTLY has the best complimentary bread. Always warm and soft, and served with the infamous garlic spread as well as a tomato based dip. I've had many a garlic spread, and this one has an appropriately generous amount of garlic in it. Both chicken and meat shawarma wraps are perfectly flavored, and accompanied with a good ratio of vegetables and garlic spread. Grilled veggies have a distinct grilled char to them, and are fairly buttery. Service is great if you're sitting down to eat, and food is made quickly if you're looking to get take out. read more

I really, really wanted to give this restaurant a higher rating, as I love middle eastern food, and the fact that this establishment is close to work. It's also on my way home. Unfortunately, I've tried the de-boned chicken twice with bad results. The first time it was raw, and the second time is was so dry it was nearly impossible to cut. The fattoush leaves much to be desired, and is not made the typical Lebanese way that I prefer. The prices are rather high for the quality of food. However, kudos to the staff! Ok, so I've had carryout from this place twice. Each time I was treated very rudely, and the food was not good. I don't understand how all of these people are having great experiences here??!! I call in my order and each time I have had to wait FOREVER!! Even though I'm told it will only be 15 minutes, or 20 minutes! I waited at least 30-40 minutes for my food. The waitstaff is very condescending and it's like they hate women. I'm sorry that I had to go there, but it's a reality. I'm grading this on the Detroit scale, in which every restaurant gets one star more than it would in most locales. Great bread, solid appetizer assortment. Service leaves a bit to be desired for dine-in. The times that I've been, the waitress is helpful when she's at your table, but coverage is spotty. Menu fare is similar to most mediterranean places that you'll find around here, and most things were good, but not great. Wow I was almost full before the main course arrived. I am so satisfied! This restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but very warmly decorated on the inside, with a good variety of seating sizes -- even private rooms. The server brought out warm bread and garlic sauce right when we were seated. These kept coming as my group devoured them. Our dishes came with soup or salad, which came out very promptly. My group ordered quail, lamb combo, and some other combo. All of it was very good, and served on a massive bed of rice (you can choose other sides too). By the time the main dishes arrived, I had already eaten SO MUCH good food. The quail was very flavorful, and a rare treat to find in Michigan. The meats were a little dry, but were well marinated and full of that grilled fragrance. We packed a large majority of our main dish to go, so I will have at least 2 large meals of leftovers. I also want to note how courteous and attentive the service was. My group arrived just an hour or so before closing time, and we didn't feel rushed at all. I am taking 2 star away for cleanliness! I have been coming here for a couple years and it's been my go to carry out downriver for Mediterranean food. I really enjoy the food and it's consistently good. However recently I visited for in dinning. The floors were so sticky it was like glue. The bathrooms looked liked they had not been cleaned in a while. The tables were foggy. I'm skeptical about returning. I'm not sure if they changed management or what! Much improved food since the days of Shish Tawook! Came for a late lunch which started with pillowy little pitas, garlic sauce and some awesome middle eastern "salsa." Lunch specials start at $7.50 and come with choice of soup or salad and rice or fries. I tried the hummus and spinach pirate wrap with fresh spinach plus tomatoes and onions. Tasty but a bit skimpy on the hummus. The salad came out first and was huge. So was the pile of rice pilaf, almost as big as the sandwich and topped with lots of almonds. Service however is still an issue. My server Jessica was fantastic and made me feel very welcome. Everyone else pretty much ignored me though. Stopped by here last night with friends an hour before closing. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, striking up a conversation about Pokemon once he noticed us playing (sadly, there is no Pokestop here). Before we ordered, we got some salsa, garlic sauce, and a plate of bread. The bread was nice and fluffy, and we crushed the garlic sauce immediately. We each ordered an entree and shared it: quail, shawarma combo, and lamb plate. Each entree comes with a choice of soup/salad and rice/fries. We all got rice with our entrees, which came with some pickled vegetables on the side. My favorite was the quail--although we expected to split one bird between the three of us, there were three altogether on the plate, and it had a great lemon flavor. At no point did our server say anything about the 10 pm closing time. There was no pressure at all to finish quickly, and when we asked to get things wrapped up, our server remembered how much we had liked the bread and came over with a paper bag of leftover bread from the kitchen, as well as extra containers for garlic sauce. The food here is a 5 star because of how well theyve been consistent and their flavoring of all the food, very well done. I love the warm bread, garlic paste, and cumin tomatoe salsa they give you, hands down the best bread and dips, and I'd honestly prefer those to anything else I've been given. The house salads my favorite there, the grilled deboned chicken mixed with both white and dark meat is my favorite dish on their menu. I wasn't a fan of the kafta due to the fact that it was lamb and not beef (I don't like the taste of lamb) but the beef kabobs were soft and perfectly seared. The chicken tawook is great when it's warm off the grill but once you let it get cool and bite into it, it kinda gets rubbery? Like a crunchy very odd texture. I think they must use a certain type of chicken breast that's over hormonally Injected or something but it's very unappetizing when that happens, I threw out my left overs from that. Finally, a restaurant within minutes of my house that can compete with Malek al Kebab! Their pita bread and garlic is amazing (the salsa is good too, but garlic always wins). Salad was very green and fresh. Hummus was good, and I actually prefer it over Maleks. I ordered the zesty chicken ghallaba with rice and had enough food for 3 meals! It was delicious, but the zesty sauce is really spicy, so I think I'll stick to classic next time. My husband tried the beef sajji and lamb chili and enjoyed both. So ever since moving to Allen Park, I've noted that despite neighboring Dearborn, there wasn't really a place for me to have a short drive to pick up a delicious Falafel. Malek al Kebob was close when I lived in Southgate, but a little far if I just want to swing by and get something after work quick, an essential part of working 12 hour days. Then Shish Palace got the excellent idea to open up another restaurant in the vacated repurposed bank that was previously a lackluster reviewed restaurant. I have gotten take out from here twice, and dined in once. It's definitely quality, and the service has been great! Ill give a run down of the menu items I have tried. First of the garlic that comes with your meal, with bread and some sort of middle eastern themed salsa. The garlic is awesome!!!!! Bread is also such, and although the salsa wasn't bad, for me its not really necessary. Also note they give you a generous portion of bread and a cup of garlic with every carryout! The Fattoush was ok. I have had better, but have also had worse. Lentil soup is really good, I added some lemon (included with purchase of course) each time, but its not bland or anything, I just like mine lemony sometimes. Falafel is where its at. To me, its the drawback of Malek al Kebob, theirs is good, but a little on the spicy side, which I like to have as an option rather than the standard. Its not a life changing falafel sandwich, but then again for me it is, as this place is blocks from my house. The Ghallaba is decent as well. It seems like they put French fries in it, which is a pet peeve of mine, but the spicing is good and veggies tender. All in all, its a pretty solid place. I will definitely frequent this establishment so long as the quality remains good along with the service. read more

We dined for lunch, upon looking at their lunch menu I first thought that $10 seemed a little expensive. I was wrong - it was a big value. When we sat down we were given complimentary pita and garlic "dip". The pita were being made in front of us and they were piping hot. I ordered the chicken shawarma pita which came with salad or soup and fries or rice. The salad was a full salad plate of greens with tomato, onion, cucumber and a really tasty vinegarette type dressing. The fries were really crispy and hot. My family and I visited Detroit for a weekend and found this amazing little restaurant a few miles from where we were staying. It was so good we returned for a second meal the same weekend and spread the word to our family and friends in the area. The service was fantastic, immaculately clean, reasonable prices and an incredible menu. We had a wide variety of food and there wasn't a single item we didn't love. I ordered a carry out for the first time here, at Shish Palace, and I was very pleased at how helpful the lady who took my order was. I ended up ordering the chicken schwarma dinner, which came with some pine nut rice, and a salad that was enormous and delicious. Aside from how amazing the food was, I loved how nicely the place was decorated. The lighting, yeah...I want it for my house. My kids loved the fish tank and asked if we could stay and eat there!
