Their breakfast menu looks good but i am frustrated with their timings. I called and asked what time their breakfast was done, and they said 1:30 pm, maybe 2 pm. I got there at 1:15 pm and they were done with breakfast. They should consider sticking to their word and maybe extending their hours to brunch to at least 2 pm or 2:30 pm....as there are some people who sleep in on the weekends... Maybe someday I will try their breakfast if i wake up early enough and they do not just change their mind - when the planets align... Their good otherwise is pretty good for St. Paul.. Seriously, what's not to love about this place? Amazing food, fast service, and good outdoor seating. We visited Shish for a late evening meal (8ish) and had a very pleasant experience. We had the Shish Taouk Kebab (chicken) and the Lamb Shish Kebab. The chicken was my favorite - the marinate was SO delicious. The garlic aioli that's to be mixed with the rice was seriously to die for. We topped off our meal with a piece of the pistachio-chocolate cake and it was the perfect flavor and texture. I will definitely be returning! Portions: you definitely get quite a bit of food - not over the top, but you won't leave hungry. I took about half of my food to go as leftovers, so if you're a "grazer," you will definitely get more food than you can eat in one sitting. Our kebabs came with rice, vegetables, and the side salad. Service: we have no complaints. We live so close to this place, and we would love to be able to eat here, but they are just the worst about food allergies. Their menu is a nightmare--I have a severe dairy allergy, and their menu is confusingly labeled (things are called vegan in one place and vegetarian in another) and the counter staff is ill-informed. The first time I went in, I saw something that looked dairy free, had no dairy listed in the ingredients, and the staff said there was no dairy when I asked, so I ordered it. It was good, but I got really sick that night. I didn't want to blame it unfairly, so I went back and I asked again if there might have been dairy, and was told that, "Well, they do dribble melted butter on the vegetables." We stayed away fro a long time, but decided to try again today. My husband, who is vegetarian, ordered the vegetable curry, and when we got home there were obvious giant chunks of chicken in it. We ordered three (3) meals online. When we arrived twenty (20) minutes later, as they directed us to, they hadn't even started cooking the food yet. The people in line before and after us were served their food prior to us. When we got home, two (2) of the meals had fries, which were soft and soggy. I ordered the Leo Burger and it was overcooked and crumbling. My wife ordered the lamb curry. Unfortunately, there was only two bites of meat and the rest was vegetables and sauce. I am half Iranian and have the amazing ability to eat the best middle eastern food in the comfort of my own home, and am therefore very particular about going out and eating good middle eastern food, but hot diggity! Shish really hit the spot. I went here with my family and got the Shishwich which had red peppers, zucchini, squash, eggplant, goat cheese and pure ecstasy. The Shishwich was actually a wrap and it was grilled so the tortilla was nice and crispy. My dad had the Shish Trio and loved it! Coming from the man who makes the world's best kabobs, this is a pretty big deal. Shish had friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and some outdoor seating and I definitely plan on going back and trying something new off their pretty large and delicious looking menu. Oh! The meat is juicy and tender and leaves me wanting to eat beyond the point of being full! The deserts are huge, however the baklava is super tasty and just the right size! This is my "go to" Mediterranean restaurant in the Twin Cities. I always leave satisfied and can't wait to go back for more! The vibe is warm and friendly, and I love eating outside on summer nights! Wow, that's some top notch Mediterranean food. All served in a casual, laid back coffee shop atmosphere. I got the chicken Shawarma gyro and tried the lamb gyro. Both were amazing, but I'd give the edge to the lamb. Where this gyro really stands out is the delicious, thin, lightly crispy yet still soft pita bread it's all wrapped in. The hummus had similarly delicious pita chips. Unique and very incredible. The meat being cooked to perfection doesn't hurt either. Also got a cup of Turkish tea that was very tasty. And beware, one slice of the strawberry lemon cake was so big it resembled the roof of a house. Unbelievably good cake though. Service was TERRIBLE tonight. First it took over half an hour for our food to arrive and then when it did arrive my order was wrong. Instead of offering to fix the order the server just took the food away and never came back. I had to line up again at the counter to order and I asked if the food would arrive any faster and the cashier just said 'no.' I had been craving Greek food for weeks, so I decided to google "Greek food in St. Paul" and head to the closest restaurant I could find while I was in the Twin Cities. When I arrived at Shish, I was surprised, not in a bad way, but it wasn't what I was expecting when I was thinking of a usual Greek/Mediterranean type restaurant- it's more like a coffeehouse type setting. The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were phenomenal for the price (although they could have given more pita bread with the hummus plate- we had to buy more pita in order to be able to eat all of the hummus). My only gripe is that unlike most Greek/Mediterranean restaurants, entrees don't come with rice and a little salad. And I was really missing avgolemono soup (the typical Greek lemon/chicken soup) that I love from Greek restaurants. Overall, the food was great, and I definitely recommend Shish as a great alternative to the typical Midwestern cuisine. read more

My man-panion and I visited this gem for the first time tonight and we left full and happy for $35! We started with the baked spinach cakes thingys and they were good, pretty classic. I had the Falafel as a wrap. It's definitely big and filling but didn't come with a side. I was cool with that though since I stole some fries from his gyro. I didn't try the gyro but there were lots of yummmm sounds happening and promises to return. Finally we finished with the turtle cheese cake which was totally amazing! In their case they had lots of other giant and beautiful cakes as well. Only complaints were that is is really cold by the doors and there's no wine but the food is tasty and quick. Cute atmosphere... although I kind of miss their old decor. It used to feel much cozier. I also have a vague memory from my freshman year at Mac of them having hookahs that you could use outside in the warmer months... I don't think that they have that anymore, which is a shame, but they still have some pretty ones around the restaurant for decorative purposes. Really like their garlic dipping sauce, essentially garlic purée with a hint of lime, with fries and topped on the gyro (in addition to the tzaziki sauce, not replacing it). Crowd at weekday lunch consists of many people from nearby Macalester College. It is great for a quick lunch or supper, and their breakfast menu is intriguing. Hummus and baba ghanoush are particularly fresh, and have unusually subtle flavors. Get the Shish Maza Mix to experience both. Lamb burger is moist and delicious. Choose kabobs over curry. Rice is pretty, but lacks flavor. Fries are crisp and tasty. Kid friendly. Shish caters, and very well. Their leg of lamb entree was fabulous. Shish also serves excellent Turkish coffee and a range of other coffee drinks made with Peace coffee beans. Or get some fresh squeezed lemonade or iced tea. read more

Shish has great food, and a great atmosphere. I love that it is fast casual, but that there are often people doing work for long periods of time on their laptops. They have a good number of seats, including a large back room, and a few outdoor tables in the warmer months. I have yet to order something bad off the menu. My go to is the avocado wrap (SO GOOD,) or the chicken gyro pita (also really good.) If you're here for dinner, their curry is fantastic, and is a great value due to the amount of food that comes on the plate! Even though their cake is expensive (around $7,) it is totally worth it, especially if you're lucky enough to get a gigantic slice. The staff is usually pretty friendly, but the kitchen area always seems pretty chaotic. Overall, this is a great neighborhood joint that is perfect for all meals of the day! read more

My very first visit to Shish and I already can't wait to go back. Shish has tons of options for everyone wether you are vegetarian, vegan or omnivore. We split two meals the Veggie Garbanzo Burger and the Shish Maza Mix. First off it was an incredible amount of good food. The Shish Maza Mix was some of the best hummus and babaganoush I have had in the Twin Cities. The Garbano Burger was nothing short of amazing. I would definately recommend it. We got to much food so unfortunately we didn't have room for desert this trip but we will be heading back soon and will adjust my 4 to a 5 if the desert checks out, which I am guessing it will. Lovely little gem in Mac-Grove! Breakfast is our favorite meal to eat here, and they offer a wide variety of options ranging from standard american breakfast fare to deliciously authentic Mediterranean options (try the Foul Medames for a healthy veg breakfast). Their hummus is divine, and my 3-year-old can't get enough of their falafel (she also digs the waffle). My husband loves their turkish coffee and I like their tea by the pot - a good deal for the price, and you get to drink out of a cute little white tea mug.
