    Tandoori chicken and kroma

A great little Indian restaurant in Mount Dora. Mount Dora was packed for some festival but we were able to get right in. The tandoori chicken was excellent and the krona was plentiful the leftovers will be great

Very cultural and cute Indian restaurant giving me New York cozy vibes with its small space inside. I stopped by for Indian chai and can't get enough of it. I definitely will come here with friends and colleagues to this restaurant. Very few people can appreciate this cultural spot in Florida.

I love strolling around Mount Dora and trying new restaurants, I stumbled upon Shiva Indian Restaurant and was excited. The outside was beautiful, I loved the decor and all the beautiful detail they took the time to put in the restaurant. The service was ok, the young lady was new so she was trying but we kept having to flag her down for drink refills and little things you would ask for if she checked in. There was a man that was very helpful. I apologize I did not get their names. The food was subpar, I enjoy trying new Indian restaurants and I get the same thing every time. Lamb samosa, Chicken tikka masala and lamb biriyani. The tikka needed more spices, it was bland and the same for the biriyani. I will say after asking for the yogurt sauce, I was able to eat the biriyani. I samosa was ok lacked seasoning. Overall, I'm not sure it's a restaurant I have to return to as there are so many more to try but I won't say never.

Why this place got two stars, is because the food was pretty good, and the decor was decent. However everything else was SERIOUSLY lacking at this location, and I left feeling terrible from the way that I was treated. I've been to a couple of Indian restaurants, and my mother was in town and really enjoys Indian cuisine. We were showing her Mt.Dora and saw this place and thought we check it out. We went in and asked for a menu, which when I opened was sticky. But I put that to the side, cause sometimes different soaps can do that. The waitress though...if you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, she made you feel bad about it. Each time I'd ask a question or spoke any words her smile would immediately go away. The only time she smiled at me was when we were getting our to go boxes. It took some time getting recommendations out of her, and we had to wait over 10 minutes to get my husbands drink refilled, and rather than taking the empty glass after dropping off the refill, she left it there! Mind you, we were the only table in the restaurant during this time. To end things off, my husband told me I had an ant on my hand that almost went on my face, and my moms purse had ants on it which we discovered right after leaving the restaurant. Though the food was pretty good(some of the basmati rice was crunchy) and the prices weren't crazy for the food we received (it was a little high) we would NOT recommend dining here until some sort of improvement comes to this establishment.

Dinner at Shiva was such an enjoyable experience. The restaurant was cozy and inviting. We knew that we were going to get an authentic experience the moment that we walked into the door. Our server was attentive and informative, offering friendly conversation to our large group. The food was fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed vegetable Samosa with a delicious, earthy Chutney and a warm bowl of Dal Makhani with basmati rice and garlic naan. I will definitely be back soon!!

The samosa chaat was amazing. I got the chicken tikka masala as mild, and it wasn't flavorful. The garlic naan was flavorful.

Excellent Dessert! Homemade Mango Pudding! (Thank You SHIVA, for a memorable experience!)

The food was ok. The portions were tiny, but expensive. The soda is $5 and the water tasted like tap water... it was pretty bad.

The only thing that wasn't what we thought was the lychee martinis. There were no lychee's but the pour was strong. We ordered some mango juice and it made it good! All the food was fresh and flavorful. Everything came out hot. The best naan we've ever tasted. We had to order two baskets! Tried the chili fried corn! OMG we have never tasted anything like it. It's hard to explain! The vibe and decor is everything!! Me and my daughter were grooving in our chairs the whole time enjoying the food and their cultural music. We will definitely be back to support! We actually prayed for this business to be successful so we can try everything on the menu!! And before we left many people started coming in. Fine Indian dining!!!

Serving plates are of permanent material and metallic eating utensils are provided. It was a warm day, but the atmosphere inside was cool and fresh. There was one person receiving and serving customers; he was most friendly and helpful (we were surprised when he mentioned it was nice to see us again; I guess he remembered our visit from last year). Shortly after we were seated, the server brought out a basket of freshly prepared naan-bread. Our previous visit we ordered from the buffet, this time we ordered off the menu. From the menu we ordered a Mango Lassi, hot tea, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Tikka, Goat Curry, a House Green Salad, Raita, and Mango Chutney. (We observed on the way into the restaurant that the buffet service area has been relocated up to the front of the restaurant and it offered more choices than it did on our previous visit). The waiter did caution the table that the Chicken Tikka (from the Tandoori section of the menu) might be dry for our tastes, and he recommended a version with a sauce; we went against his advice and ordered the un-sauced Chicken Tikka. We also chose spice level 4 of 5 for the Goat Curry. I wanted to be able to recreate previously enjoyable goat curry meals (that I had experienced in a restaurant in Maryland), so I needed the lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers that come on the House Green Salad. Well, the server was correct: we should have ordered the sauced version of the Chicken Tikka (rather than Chicken Tikka from the Tandoori section of the menu) - we felt the chicken we received was low on flavor and highly dried out. OK, live and learn, next time we listen to advice :). I thought the goat curry was ideal, nice and spicy by not too spicy - it combined well with the Basmati rice and salad components plus the Raita. The sauce in which the goat was cooked was superlative. I guess our only other dissatisfaction, aside from our unwise choice of going against server's advice, was with the Aloo Paratha (potato stuffed bread); it seemed damp on one side and we felt is seemed more like it was fried instead of cooked in a Tandoor. The Goat curry was very good, maybe even too good in quality - only one bone in the entire dish (I was accustomed to sucking meat off from half a dozen or more bone pieces when I ate this dish in Maryland; this seemed too easy!). The Basmati rice was ideal. Had my first Chai tea: it was surprisingly good ( I had ignorantly been expecting plain black tea from a teabag, this was an entire creation!) Overall our impression was the restaurant is good, we received way too much to eat for two people, but eating at the Bombay Bistro is an experience we are eager to repeat.

The restaurant, in our view, has gotten increasingly lacklustre in the past couple of years. While the tables and the interiors are still generally clean, we have noticed wobbly table legs and cracked/torn seat covers that seem to remain unchanged and/or unrepaired for months. Coming to the food, while most of the Punjabi and North-west Indian fare on their menu has been the typically Americanized Indian food for the most part, anything outside of that category on their menu can and will throw you off. Especially if you've had the authentic stuff and know what those dishes taste like. On our latest visit last night, we ordered dahi tikki for appetizer which was served to us without the dahi. No attempt was made on part of the server or the kitchen staff to correct the error and provide the yogurt dressing. So we had a couple of aloo tikkis (spiced potato patties) with the regular chutneys that were at the table. We also ordered chicken vindaloo, bhindi do pyaza and butter naan for the entrée. To our surprise, the chicken tasted nothing like vindaloo and it had potatoes in it!!! LOL! For the uninitiated, Vindaloo is the Indian interpretation of 'Carne de Vinha d'alhos', which was introduced in the early 16th century to the former Portuguese colony of Goa in India. In Goa, the dish is colloquially known as 'vindalho' or 'vindaloo' and is prepared in a very similar manner to its Portuguese counterpart. It's a type of braised meat prepared with bold fiery spices and wine vinegar to impart that recognisably bold, pickle like flavour and has a beautiful, rich brown sauce. Vindaloo has absolutely NOTHING to do with Aloo (potatoes) in any shape, way or form. What was served to us seemed like some Frankensteined variation of Chicken tikka masala with some potatoes thrown in at whim. The bhindi do pyaza was alright in terms of flavor but the team in their kitchen ignored to discard the cap/stem of the okras causing the preparation to have a rather unpleasant texture and mouthfeel. The butter naans were also very inconsistent in texture. The first one was fine, the second one was overcooked, brown and crispy and the one we ordered to go was slightly undercooked and doughy. Also, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but the lights inside the restaurant kept being dimmed to the point of being turned off several times when we were seated at the table at around 8:30PM. I'm not sure what's going on with this restaurant but if the owners and staff actually read the reviews, please do something about it. We have been to Saffron before and we used to really enjoy the food, the service and the overall atmosphere. But lately it's been all going downhill. The only saving grace is that the portions served here are still huge. But that won't save the restaurant if the quality of the food and everything else keeps tanking. It'll be a shame to see another good restaurant fall from grace. We would absolutely urge the owners to take notice and fix things so those of us who have loved this place in the past can keep returning.
