Side of shrimp

This food was awful. Everything was over cooked. We ordered crab legs, shrimp, lobster, hush puppies etc. the hush puppies tasted like dough. The wings were nasty we ordered lemon pepper. The lobster was overcooked. Everything lacked flavor and was a buttery mess.

I really hate to give a 1 star review especially considering that I've had food from here before that was excellent. I ordered a whiting plate and while the first filet was cooked to perfection, the second one was skinny, full of bones and tough as if it had been refried. Even the hush puppies and fries tasted old. If I didn't live on the other side of town and it wasn't now closing time, I would have returned it. I'm willing to give this place one more chance but if the food quality is the same, I won't patronize it again.

Fried shrimp and catfish

This seafood restaurant is unassuming, but man do they make delicious fried things! I got the fried shrimp and catfish plate, which also came with fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw. All the fried stuff was deliciously crispy without being greasy or feeling heavy. I'm not usually a crinkle fry person, but the generous seasoning on them made them extra flavorful. The catfish was generously sized and juicy, and the hush puppies were good as well, if with some unusual floral notes mixed in with the corn. The fried shrimp were the standout for me: succulent and sweet, perfectly cooked, with a lovely crunch from the breading. I usually don't eat shrimp tails, but these were also breaded and thus tasty enough for me to crunch up too. I would happily devour these shrimp all day. The service was prompt. You order at a register (or online ahead of time, if you planned better than I did), and it seems like most folks get their food to go. My plate came out in maybe 10 minutes? I had just enough time to watch the Price is Right Showcase Showdowns be presented and awarded on their massive TV in that window.

I did a carry out order. There was parking available but it's limited. The inside was small but you could definitely eat in there if it's not packed. It's a street front so kinda chill. The customer service was not the best. I was barely greeted when I walked in. I was told my order had another 10-15 minutes but it came out 5 minutes later. The food was not expensive at all. The lemonade is super sweet but tasty. The flounder was seasoned well. I liked it. Didn't care for the fries as they looked like the seasoning was sprinkled on the top once it was put in the to go container. The customer service is really what took away from the visit honestly. I am pretty sure she rolled her eyes when I asked for a straw. I wanted to try a dessert but the poor customer service made me say forget it. Maybe just smile and be happy people are patronizing your business in this economy. A smile is free! Also what's up with Durham and this white bread when ordering a fish sandwich. I was expecting a bun but it was fine.

Sho Nuff Seafood has its strengths but is a mixed bag overall. On the positive side, the seafood is flavorful, and the portions are generous. The garlic crabs and shrimp are the highlights, packed with bold seasoning that keeps you digging in. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, which makes it feel like good value. That said, the experience can be inconsistent. On some visits, the seafood was overcooked, removing the flavor. There have also been long wait times and occasional issues with customer service that left the experience less polished than expected. If you're in the mood for bold, Southern-style seafood and don't mind some potential hiccups, Sho Nuff Seafood might be worth a try. It has charm but could benefit from more consistency, a solid three stars. Great ambiance.

My Second time here, the food is good, the owner is nice, the prices are reasonable. But don't say catfish when it's not, it was not whiting, could be swai fish that is similar but not catfish. Being sold as catfish to restaurants who can't tell the difference. But folks who have been eating catfish for years know the difference. My Mother stopped eating at her favorite restaurant over it. But that is my only complaint. It satisfied her weekly fish craving. The 5 flavor pound cake, I almost forgot to mention was not what was given me, I got something that was too moist and too sweet.

Open currently for take out only this place is a well hidden, inexpensive, seafood dream. The room itself has all the chairs pushed to one side, some covered in plastic wrap. The workers all wear masks as well. You can tell they are still concerned about covid. I came here at 545pm on a Sunday and was promptly (and curtly) told they were only open for 10 more minutes. Undeterred I quickly ordered and was given a to go bag minutes later. My friends were put off by the brusque demeanor of the owner, but not me. Usually if someone is that gruff its because the food speaks for itself. And BOY DID IT! I got the fried shrimp plate which came with AMPLE fries and 3 hush puppies. It was DIVINE. I will be back for SURE!

The restaurant was in the process of being renovated, due to limited indoor seating and chairs randomly placed for sitting. The waiters were friendly. However, I was disappointed to receive a load of butter in my meal tray. I'm a seafood lover, but I will not eat seafood that's floating in butter/margarine. The food was greasy, overcooked, bitter, dry, and had a weird taste, despite the presence of parsley flakes. Until dining at this restaurant, I do not recall ever wasting a lobster tail, crab legs, shrimp, corn, sausage, and potatoes. I discarded the meal, besides the boiled egg. On the good foot, the peach flavored drink was delicious. The pics make the food look mouthwatering delicious, but the look is deceiving. I'll think about returning again in the future.

Jumbo shrimp plate - wow!

Such good! I always try to stop here before game night on Thursdays at Moon Dog. This is my go-to: garlic shrimp plate. Includes boiled potatoes, corn, and a chunk of sausage. For $16!

Terrible management

First time in my life I've ever had to throw a crab leg cluster in the trash. I should've known something was off when I called and asked how long until the order would be ready and the nice woman said only 10mins. The crab leg meat was soggy and flavorless. The texture was way off and the meat wasn't fresh. It tasted like the crab legs sat in water all day. The boil was drowned in way too much butter. The shrimp was equally disappointing. Overall major disappointment and waste of money. I prefer quality over speed. I'm confused by all the positive reviews. I'm visiting from Baltimore and I know what good seafood tastes like. A sprinkle of parsley on food only makes it looks good. I would need to widen my back and lower my standards to return and enjoy this food. The owner, Michael Griffin, is making a lot of money from Black people and it really saddens me that a large portion of this community loves this trash. I hope someone who can actually prepare good seafood runs this establishment out of business! The optics are terrible and by reading a job ad they posted on FB, so is the energy of the management. The Hot Honey Chicken special with pimento cheese was an easy 10/10. The fried green tomatoes were another standout, sliced to the perfect thickness with a great crunch. The beans and rice were packed with flavor, and the fried chicken was excellent. Even the Thai Chili BBQ deserves a mention; it's a must-try, just don't let the name fool you because the heat sneaks up on you. Add in the unique artwork and atmosphere, plus the great service, and you've got a restaurant that's worth a detour if you're driving through Durham. I'll definitely be back.

While the food was good, it didn't knock my socks off. And they're definitely more of a creole restaurant than a southern one. There are better cajun/Creole restaurants in the RTP area. I was going to order the creole gumbo, but found out when I came in that it was a seafood gumbo today not their regular one. Oh well. So I ordered jambalaya with a side of red beans and rice. Both were good but a little dry and I've had better nearby. The fresh catch of the Day was Amber Jack, and I love that fish, so maybe I should've ordered that in a Poboy. Might come back to try some of their other offerings.

A1 Gyro and Philly, a food truck that serves lamb gyro, Philly cheesesteaks, burgers, and grilled…read morechicken sandwiches, came to a neighborhood in Carrboro, NC today, and as a lamb gyro enthusiast, I decided to buy a couple (1 for my girl). I was the only customer, and the friendly Middle Eastern guy in the food truck asked what I wanted: 2 gyro wraps. He asked if I wanted to add hot sauce to my gyros with tzatziki sauce, and I said, "Yes". I asked him where the food truck is based, he said that he goes to different locations, and didn't mention a permanent location. I checked the address here on Yelp and it says it's based in Durham, NC, which is not too far from here. Each gyro wrap cost $12, and my total came up $26+ (I assume with tax included). I was about to pull out $25 cash but after he said total, I pulled $30, and he said not to worry about it. I insisted to give the $30 and he gave a $5 change. I guess I got a $1 discount. He finished cooking both gyros in about 12 min., a bit longer than I expected, considering I was the only customer he was serving at that time. The gyro wraps were served inside a small paper bag, and wrapped in aluminum foil. I was quite surprised at the size of the order for 2 gyros. When I opened my gyro wrap, the size looked regular yet a bit smaller that what I had in last October's State Fair, which was fine, considering the State Fair gyro (which came with side of Greek fries) cost me $18+. However, unlike that State Fair gyro, I did not enjoy A1's main specialty. I would have to agree with what the previous reviewer Renee said, "Onions does not make a Gyro make". I love onions but not too much on my Gyro; this one is loaded with so much onions, lettuce, and tomato to the point that it's drowning the flavors of tzatziki sauce and hot sauce (Did he forget to put it?). The amount of lamb gyro meat didn't seem to justify its $12 price; it's not even spiced well, and the mush of ingredients to hide the fact that it's lacking meat just looked as bad as it tasted. That's not even the worst part. When I ate the gyro wrap, the pita bread tasted soggy, and that unpleasant texture and taste were more emphasized on every bite than the lamb gyro. I was not able to finish it; and just threw my leftover away. As I'm writing this review, my girl hasn't eaten her gyro wrap yet, and I haven't told her what I thought so she could judge by herself. We recently enjoyed an $11+ gyro in Kebab Skewer in Cary, and a $12+ chicken + lamb over rice at Tasty Halal Eats food truck in Morrisville, NC (both I reviewed here on Yelp), and I'm sad to say that A1's gyro wraps were nowhere close to the food quality of those foods and the State Fair gyro I mentioned earlier. The food truck's friendly customer service and 99% Sanitation Score are the only positive things I could say about this food truck. A1's gyro is clearly the opposite of what "A1" means. Overall Score: 1.1/5
