*Hot in the (Shoe) City* I've driven or walked by Shoe City countless times because it's within a large shopping complex I frequent, on Monterey & Dinah Shore. The name "Shoe City" pretty much tells you what you need to know...and what's in-store inside this store. But what I did not know is that Shoe City has a very large inventory of top name brands at reasonable prices. They also have a wide selection of high-performance athletic shoes I did not expect to see here. They also have a nice display of hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts and socks. Even noticed some Dodgers and Red Sox hats for future reference. On this particular day, I strolled inside Shoe City to check out the place...and cool down a bit because it was over 100 degrees outside, late in the month of May. The layout is similar to what I've seen at other discount shoe stores -- aisles & aisles of shoes neatly organized, with stacks of shoe boxes piled 4 feet high. Of course, I went straight to the Nike area to peek around. Within seconds I was approached and asked if I "need help with anything?" which I appreciated, and kindly said "no thank you...but thanks for asking." Just when I thought it was over: I noticed something I never expected here -- Nike Offcourt Adjust Slides, cushioned with memory foam. And a color I've never seen. I have 4 pairs in other colors, and recently purchased a new pair at Dick's Sporting Goods a month ago...and a month before that too. Tho I don't need another pair, these unique shade of brown Nike Slides was calling my name, to be added to my collection. As often happens, they had every size but mine, so I called over the helpful gal who I spoke with before, and asked if there's more in stock. I mentioned how I've never seen this color and she told me they "just got them in the other day." Then when I thought my luck ran out, she found the last pair in my size, that was misplaced below the displayed shoe next to it. I was so happy I said "ya see, I needed your help after all" and we had a good laugh together. Tho the "price comparison" sticker on the box is inflated, the sale price is the same $40 I've paid for these Nike Slides at Dicks and elsewhere. I mentioned it to another girl who rang me up at the register, who I assume is the manager, and she agreed with me. Then we struck up a nice convo about the cool color of these slides. Then after hearing stories about my collection and how damn comfy they are, she told me she'll have to get her first pair to try out. Then she asked if I want to "SPIN THE WHEEL for a chance to WIN a PRIZE?" Who am I to say "NO"...so I went to the other side of the counter to spin the BIG WHEEL ~~ not too hard not too soft...but just a tad bit short of winning the BIG PRIZE. Oh well, it was still fun. I was very impressed with Shoe City's merchandise and their helpful & friendly customer service. And their AC room temp was perfecto. Went in at 7:15pm to look for work shoes, young lady at the register was silent until I greeted her myself with my partner as we approached. She went on to continue stocking and left the register unattended but I was looking for recommendations but both workers would not approach me or my partner. I ended up walking around the aisles waiting to be approached to be asked for any assistance or questions but no one asked me anything or looked interested to do customer service. My partner then went to ask one of the other workers stocking shoes about the brand I was looking for and she just replied no we carry kids and continued restocking. I have worked customer service for 5 years to this current date and I have never not approached my work's customers or not attended them. My partner wanted me to buy the shoes I needed but I told him no service no buy and we left without a goodbye or any acknowledgment. Highly recommend getting retrained to avoid further reviews or customers leaving. read more

Visiting from out of town & stopped by this store after seeing the Now Open signs. The parking lot was completely empty, & now I know why. My wife & I walked in. The chime sounded to acknowledge our arrival; that was the only greeting we received because the guy at the front never looked up from his paper. The girl was working in the back as we walked by & she was also "focused" hard at work. We walked through the store & headed out without even a bit of acknowledgment from the employees. Why would I want to spend my money here? Now open will quickly turn to now closed with the lack of customer service. Additionally, these shoes look like the ones that won't sell anywhere else, so if you're looking for unpopular Van's, Nike, Puma, & Crocs or overpriced Jordan's - this is the store for you! read more

Please be careful when shopping here they sold me a fake knock off pair of Converse. First time I bought from here they ripped with in 3 months didn't think much of it. This time the Only reason I noticed was because the glue was already unsticking from the Sides when I took them out of the box. Serial numbers do not match both shoes & there is a star on the converse logo in the back that the authentic converse don't have. I did buy Two pair of Nikes from there that were real just be careful. read more

This store is larger inside than what I've observed driving passed it. Here's what I liked: *The employees are polite- most *The selection is pretty good for the location. *price point of selection is chefs kiss perfect* *they spun a wheel after purchase and we won a free gift Here's what I did not like: *I was told that the only shoes they have are the ones I see... as large as that store is, that's just something you tell a customer when you don't want to go in the back and search for additional sizing. I will never set foot in another Shoe City again. I went in Palm Desert store to buy a pair of Hokas. There were no Hokas in the store in a size 12. The clerk said to buy them on line so I did. They did not work out so I went back to the store to return the pair that I bought on line. The clerk told me she could not return them because I didn't have a receipt. (she first accused my of buying the shoes from the Hoka website although Shoe City was written all over my paperwork. I did not get a purchase receipt, I got a packing receipt from Shoe City with the shoes. She said if you had a receipt I could accept them. Then I got... here's a number you can call. I called the number and I was told I had to ship the shoes back at my expense to get a credit. Wow! I didn't see that on the website. Now, do you think I would trust this company to give me a refund once they received the shoes? I DON'T THINK SO, not worth it. I'll make the shoes work. BTW, Nordstroms sells the same shoe for the same price as Shoe City and Nordstrom's treats you like a valued customer. read more

They only have black and few white shoes. When asked why they don't get any other color shoes they say black shoes do well in the desert which is BS. They have lots of name brand shoes, but they only have limited options for colors that stink. I've gone in there numerous times telling them they should get other colors but they don't listen. I will not return to the Shoe City store in Palm Desert. In my opinion I was Baited and Switched! I was looking at a pair of tennis shoes clearly priced at $39 but found out when I was at the cash register the clerk switched them for an identical pair and charged me $79 and never said anything. I looked online at Shoe City, Palm Desert, CA website and found Nike Benassi Just Do It Slide priced at $24.99 in-store purchase only. I went there yesterday to purchase and they were marked $29.99. I showed the manager on my i-phone the $24.99 price on their website. She said she could not honor the price on their website even though it showed in-store purchase only. The manager was very rude. I also have reasons to believe that the manager representing this store is not GLBTQ welcoming as I am a gay man and she seemed rather happy for me to leave the store. I went to Famous Footwear just down the street and was welcomed and I purchased the same shoes for $24.99. I will never enter the Shoe City in Palm Desert, CA again as I did not feel welcome and they do not honor prices on their website. read more

I will never buy shoes there again. I bought 2 pair of Nike tennis shoes within 3 months and the soles fell apart on both, and Shoe City would not stand behind their merchandise and said that there was nothing they could do about it, not even offer me a discount on another pair. I would recommend that people don't buy shoes there. read more
