This "business" should not be trying their hand at online commerce. I'll save the long story and say buy somewhere, anywhere, else!!!! Read below if you're interested. Took forever to get a return label (at least 4 phone calls) and when returned I had to call at least 10 times to ask why I hadn't received my store credit. The worthless individual with the thick foreign accent, answering the phones, can do nothing to help. Now I have to email a manager. I am told there is no way to speak to someone, who speaks clear English, over the phone. All I wanted to do was exchange them for a different size via store credit. You would swear to God that I was asking them to put a rocket on the moon. Now I'm waiting on an email back from the "manager" (probably the same useless guy I've spoken to this week). I now want my money back and I will buy from a professional business. Stay far away from this utterly incompetent and mind-bogglingly mismanaged business!!! read more

VERY POOR QUALITY PRODUCT & SERVICE. Shoe Mart Olakai slippers tore at the heel after just one week. At first Shoe Mart would not stand by their product and denied my request to replace the defective slippers. After not backing down, Shoe Mart finally agreed to replace the defective slippers, but after waiting over 2 weeks for replacement slippers, the slippers sent to me were the incorrect style. Shoe Mart offered NO apology, and left me with no slippers at the start of winter. Looking at other reviews, I now question the authenticity of Shoe Mart's products. Very slow refund on returns. I've still not seen a refund yet 2 weeks after the package was returned to their office. I am now chasing it, they don't have weekend phone hours. Overall, not the best mail order experience. I will say they delivered fine, and they did offer free return shipping. But without processing a refund promptly, it is frustrating. This is compared to say Amazon who refunds an order as soon as they see it has been dropped off t UPS, this is glacial. I'll update with any further problems if they in fact never do refund, but assuming I'll get it after chasing them down. read more

Well I travel a lot for work. Lucky for me, I do make it up to the NYC area. When I do come to NYC, The Shoe Mart is always a stop. They are pros. No one is a pro anymore - these guys are. Last time I was there I mentioned my Alden's back home needed resoled, but Alden was taking up to 10 weeks! Joe told me, "we can resole those and we use Alden replacement soles. I can even put a Commando sole on your 990 plain toe shell cordovan shoes." Well, as soon as I got home I shipped them off to Norwalk. Two weeks later, I had my shoes back - resoled - and better than ever. They had done what Alden refused to do. Put a sole on a shoe that wasn't the same as the one that left the factory. I have been a dedicated customer to Shoe Mart and the Zapatka brothers since my father started shopping for his shoes there back in the 70's. My father was a traveling shoe salesman from the 50's and 60's and he knew his shoes! Shoe Mart has a fantastic selection of shoes to choose from regardless of what style and fit you have. Their sales staff is well trained and their prices can't be beat. And, if they don't have what you are looking for in stock, they will order it and have it sent right to your door without obligation. HORRENDOUS SERVICE. Ordered a pair of Aldens because they have a great selection - I'll give them that. When they showed up, I had ordered the wrong size - my fault entirely. However, that's part of the risk you run when you order online and you can't try something on over the internet. Here's where the problems began. I sent three e-mails, to none of which did I receive a response. I tried calling the 1-800 #, which was 'out of service'. When I finally got someone on the phone at the brick and mortar, they redirected me to another number. Whatever. TSM refuses to simply exchange without returning the money to my card, then making another separate purchase. Even though I only asked to exchange the exact same model in a different size, they refuse to do this. Normally this wouldn't be a problem except that I am a Canadian customer and the exchange rate has gone up 10% - so basically, it will cost me another $75-100 to reorder them during the turnaround time. After spending 30 futile minutes explaining my predicament, they refused to do anything for me even after I told them I just expect my money back in full and won't be making another purchase with them - that if they don't do an exchange, I'm not using them ever again. Not to mention the woman on the phone was flippant and basically indicated she didn't give a rat's ass. I'll be taking the $700 Canadian dollars upon return and using it at The Armoury or A Gentlemen's Footwear. I can understand that 1. I have some unique circumstances and 2. they have their inventory guidelines, but I don't think me sending the shoes back and them exchanging the SAME MODEL WITH A DIFFERENT SIZE is anything that a logical, reasonable human being couldn't handle. ***update*** They've now taken 2 weeks to return the money I've spent with them. How low can anybody go for 2 bucks ? Before I placed my order for $115 Johnston & Murphy's in May 2021, I read their return policy. Tucked away in the text was a proviso specifying an $8 "restocking" fee for returned shoes. I didn't like it, but went ahead with the order. Shoes arrived , but didn't fit, so back they went with their shipping label. Later, upon reviewing my card statement, I saw a $10 deduction from the refund. I contacted support, by email, and was told it had been $10 going back a year.Checking the "Return Policy" page again, it showed a repositioned charge (front and center, not tucked away) of $9.99. I told them baloney. They'd changed the page format, and support lied about it. My advice: take your business elsewhere. These people are slimy. ( the arithmetic: $2 x number of returns= revenue boost) There's a principle here, which they shoved aside. A reputable retailer would pre-anounce a fee change, to be effective at some future date, while honoring the stipulated fee. Not this outfit : wrong hood. I have shopped at the Shoe Mart for over 3 years and have never been disappointed by the variety of high quality made in America shoes, knowledgable and friendly staff and prompt and courteous service. In fact I've always been more than please. An amazing selection of Alden's. Both new, customs and factory seconds which are the best deal in men's shoes. The staff can point you to a unique show that will fit like a glove and last for years. The staff provides free goodies all the time; multiple high end shoe- horns, free shipping and advice you can't get anywhere else. I have worked with Bob Potts and he is a charm. Every shoe I have gotten from the Shoe Mart has been lauded by my peers, provided comfort and style to boot. Disingenuous return policy. They tell you they offer free returns but when you try and return your purchase they offer a hundred and one caveats. And as other reviewers have pointed out, customer service here is not their strong suit. BEWARE!!!! This company uses Amazon fulfillment and take no responsibility for what mistakes Amazon makes. Ordered 2 pairs of shoes, one was fin, one was wrong shoes in correct box. I had ordered these for a wedding and the ones that were in wrong box came from Amazon fulfillment and The Shoe Mart took absolutely no responsibility for the error, I did not have them for the wedding, wrote to complain, they sent a shipping label, showed no care or concern, have no more my size, and will not refund my almost $200 until they receive them in the warehouse. I bought over $500 expensive Alden shoes that wore off after 6 months, with tips of these shoes falling off, and clear defect in the durability of Penny Loafers I bought. It is unacceptable for over $500 shoe not to last 6 months. Despite asking for refund and replacement, and sending the shoes back to the owner for inspection, the owner was not interested in either refund or replacement. Unacceptable practice in 2018. Tried to order Alden Cigar Shell Cordovan online. I tried to place the order and had "technical difficulties" with the website. I decided to call the 800 number and just order the shoes. The customer service person told me that they had a glitch in their system and the shoes would be $200 more than advertised on the website. Bait and switch for sure. Stay away. read more

Fantastic shoe shop which for me is (thankfully) relatively local. I've purchased several pairs of Alden shoes & boots from here over the past few years, using both their "pre-order list" and "2nd quality" services and I've been pleasantly surprised each time. Customer service is excellent. When my wife and I were looking to purchase our first home about a year ago I couldn't help but look within Norwalk, just so that I could be within walking distance from this place. We ended up in Westchester which is, although a different state, mercifully very close. I hope these guys are around for a long, long time to come. read more

This is a review of The Shoe Marts online system and support. I bought a pair of Alden shoes two years ago that just recently showed signs of a defect. I was worried that the shoes were too old to be covered by any kind of warranty but I Emailed The Shoe Mart asking what could be done. Raneka responded to me very promptly and even provided paid fed Ex labels so that they could take a better look at the shoes! less than a week later she let me know that they would be sending me a brand new pair! ***I'm rating the Norwalk, CT retail store. This is a great shop with a wonderful selection of really nice shoes- many American made brands-, really nice people and fair prices. I thought it was so enjoyable to walk into a small, local shoe store and get treated the way I did when my mom took me to buy a new pair of shoes 25 years ago...not to mention being properly fitted and getting to support actual individuals with whom I share a general local community. Gary helped me decide on the proper size- length and width- of a pair of boots I'd wanted for several years but only now decided to go for (expensive for me). Needless to say I felt great walking out of there with my new boots and I honestly like them more overall because of the pleasant shopping experience. I really don't think I'll ever again purchase footwear online...I'd honestly forgotten what it's like to walk into a shoe store and buy a pair of shoes from someone who knows how to sell shoes and now that I've been reminded I really don't wanna go back to the other way...regardless of potentially spending less money...it's just not a good trade off. Remarkable in their selection of Aldens, and some other finds like the Wolverine 1000's. This is probably THE store for finding Aldens, as their new lines run around $500 and their factory sections will get you a pair for about a $200 reduction. This is a little too much for me at the moment, but I can still appreciate its remarkability. Very good selection of dress shoes like Ecco, Clarks, Rockport, and a decent selection of boots otherwise. The place is a little stuffy and quite old-school, but just walk in with confidence and browse at your leisure. The salesmen know their stuff, and are appropriately gruff as a result. We were looking for some nice, rich brown dress shoes for him to wear to our wedding and they did not disappoint. I have ordered several small products like Alden shoe trees and shoe bags with absolutely no problem so when TheShoeMart emailed me about having received a shipment of Alden shell Indy boots I ordered two pair, 10.5D and 11D as I was not sure how the Trubalance last would fit. I settled on the 10.5D and boxed the 11D for return. I completed the online return form and received an email two days later stating my return was approved and that I would receive a separate email containing the shipping label and return authorization number. It has been a week and I have not received the email. There is nothing on the website that will allow you to have the shipping label resent nor can you start a new return request as your existing request just sits in an "approved" status. Attempts to call customer service go unanswered. A voicemail system prompts you to leave a message but no one calls you back. TheShoeMart seems to do everything in their power to not honor the 90 day return policy. It's really sad that a great brand like Alden would allow one of their retail partners to treat customers in this way. If need be I will open a case with my credit card company but I shouldn't have to do that. When you spend $1700 on two pair of shoes you don't expect to basically be ignored. Fast shipping great prices on quality products

This is a very high end shoe store for mostly mens dress shoes. Most shoes are between $200-700. However, they have an extensive closeout and irregular stock. I got an awesome pair of $400 Cole Hann Zerogrands Black wingtips for $89. An amazing find. If you need a daily dress shoe that you plan on wearing for 5+ years I'd recommend Shoe Mart. Should be able to find something nice for $150-300. If you're smart like I am you will bring your loud children. They seems to really appreciate that. read more

If you were named Alden, like I am, you would probably be a fan of Alden Shoes -- like I am. In 2010, Allen Edmonds and Alden are practically the only two mens shoe manufacturers left in the USA. They both still do it the old-fashioned way, producing a variety of high quality, handcrafted leather shoes. Expensive -- but in an age of office casual, they speak volumes. Shoe Mart, in Norwalk, CT, sell both brands. Shoe Mart offers occasional sales, and special mailings on discounted irregulars. If ordering Alden shoes, be careful with which "last" you order, there are differences in width, by design. In my experience, a "Barrie" last is better for a wide foot, a "Leydon" last is more narrow. One of my favorites is the "Indiana Jones" boot, (Alden 405 work boot) Harrison Ford personally chose for the movie. That uses a "Truebalance" last, which is similar to a Barrie last in fit. They have the brand of shoes I wanted, Samuel Hubbard, but they have a somewhat limited selection, and will not, or can not order, something for you from the company. They gave me some vague excuse about why they don't special order. I didn't find it very understandable. I know a lot of other shoe stores that will special order for customers. Zero stars for theshoemart dot com. Do not buy from this place if there is any chance that you will need to return the shoes. - I bought a $120 pair of Cole Haan shoes. - They were too tight across the top of my feet. - I returned the shoes via their RMA return process. - I never got a refund, so I waited the 10 business days they claim for processing returns. - I called them on business day 11, and the customer service reps lied to me on the phone. They claimed to have sent me a message on why they couldn't refund my money. - Lie #1 - When I asked for the email they said to have sent, they couldn't produce it. - Lie #2 - I asked for a refund and they said they couldn't give me an exchange or a refund (everyone knows they just return shoes to the manufacturer for a credit). - Lie #3 - They called me back and offered me a 1 time exchange, but a refund was impossible. So, I filed a dispute/claim with Paypal (luckily I purchased through Paypal) - Paypal reviewed the issues from both sides. - Lie #4 - theshoemart dot com stated through the Paypal dispute they could do a 1 time refund of $66 on the $120 purchase. What a total lie. The customer service department (which consists of 2 people) will talk down to you and continually lie to you about how the only thing they can do is send the shoes you dont want, back to you. They will act like they are doing you a favor in sending you back the shoes you don't want. Paypal reviewed my dispute and gave me a full refund. Never ever buy from this place.
