There is history all over the walls, and you can see this is a beloved family run institution. That immediately made me feel good. Everyone in the store is also extremely friendly and helpful, the service is top notch. I had signed up for an appointment for a fitting, and I had a very specific suit color in mind (dark hunter green). I knew this wasn't the most common color for a suit, and I was a little nervous because I've never been through the tailoring experience before. Matt came over and walked me through everything, he helped me pick out not only the suit that is perfect for what I was looking for but he also helped me find a shirt, tie, belt and shoes. He was with me every step of the way. My suit had to be ordered and altered since it's not a common off the rack color, the team at Penner's kept in touch with me the whole time. I never had any doubt that I was in good hands, and any questions I had were answered fully. The price for everything was also extremely fair in my opinion. I fully endorse Penner's if you're looking for suits, clothes, shoes or anything else wearable. There's a big selection, and it's not just suits they also have just about anything for men's wear. They seemed to be a more trendy type of shop and a lot of my clothes was a little more formal for their style so they didn't buy a lot from what I brought (I think they are more tailored to GenZ just FYI). I did browse through their store a little bit but frankly their clothes was not my style and they did not have a lot of XS or small petite clothing. One thing do worth noting is that they have a huge selection for guys, and saw some pretty cool vintage stuff for men.

We were at a rehearsal the day before when we got the text that the suits were ready to pick up. This was after annoying them. We get there she wants the rest of the payment before i can even try it on. Which... i guess makes since? But after waiting for so long i'd like to know it fits. And it didn't. too tight yet i dealt with it because guess what? it was the day before the wedding and after the service time i knew i wasn't getting it fixed. Their reasoning for the time being so late? Prom season. So i asked if this is their usual turn around time and they said YES. But after asking why it took so long when we ordered it in advanced, they said we could've PAYED more to have it arrive a couple days earlier. So if you want to be anxious about suits all the way up until the wedding, i suggest this place! When I enter, I was not greeted and actually stood at the front desk staring at the attendant for a while before I finally said "I could use some help". Yes, she was busy with another customer but she could have at least acknowledged me. Having a personal history working in retail, that's what you do, especially when you walk into a high end custom shop. I end up picking a shirt off the rack because I didn't have my dad's measurements to make a custom guayaberas and all I wanted was my dad's name embroidered on it. I pay for the shirt and the embroidering which cost over $200 (whatever, my dad is worth it and the material was nice) and the lady (same lady that ignored me) said it would take 2-3 weeks for the embroidering and they would call when it was ready. 3 weeks pass and no call! I take time out of my schedule to go to the store to see what's up. No shirt. I tell the girl (new girl) I was concern d that my ordered wasn't entered because the original attendant didn't seem to really attend to me (no pun). She types some keys on my key board and says "yup you order is here, I'm sure it will be in by Monday, Wednesday at the latest". Thursday before Father's Day. Thursday, and no call. I go in yet again. Finally the manager is here to attend me. I explained my situation. She looks up my order and it's not in the system?!?!? Why would the previous girl from a week ago lie to me and tell me it was there? How was this over looked in the first place?? The manager assured me it will be ready by the next day and even offers to drive it to me the next day. I did finally end up with the guayabera but Dos Carolinas will never have my business again especially for something that's time sensitive such as holiday/birthday gifts, weddings or events. I gave them 2 stars because the quality of the shirt is nice and the manager did fix their wrongs and even offered to drop off the item with me, but not worth my stress or money really.

Nov 14, 2025, I won a $50 Google Play gift card at Bargain Depot, but had to pay $6 because the card came in a "$6 day" black box. I gave it to my son as a birthday gift. When he tried to redeem it, he found out from Google Play that the card was never activated at the store. Gift card activation is something only the store can do at the register. I went back today, Dec 11, 2025, with the physical card in perfect condition. Instead of helping, I was told: "Too much time passed." "We can't do anything about the card." "No one else has had this issue, only you." "We don't know what you did with the card." Not only did they refuse to activate the card or refund the $6 fee, they shifted the blame onto me -- even though activation is 100% the store's responsibility. The card is unexpired, unused, and clearly not activated. The store has complete transactional documentation and photos. Just a warning for others: If you receive or "win" any gift card in a Bargain Depot black box, make sure the store activates it before you leave. If there's an issue later, you may not receive any help from them. Sharing this so others can avoid the same frustration.
