This Shoney's was fine. For late lunch at 2:00 they had plenty of staff. Brandis our waitress was very helpful and enthusiastic. Hostess sweet. They kept bringing out fresh fish and chicken. I haven't gotten the buffet in a while because it does not look appetizing. Today was the breakfast for dinner theme. It didn't look good. However, I've been ordering off the menu, and it is the complete opposite. I had a delicious burger a few weeks ago and had the Philly this evening. It was very tasty. The Philly with onion rings and a drink were around $15. The server was friendly. Another issue is the heat. It is always so hot in there. My son refuses to go in there because you are always sweating. Today I requested to be put under the fan so I could be a little cooler. read more

Moved back to WV after decades and wanted breakfast. He went and got it and I ate part way and the eggs weren't cooked. He took it back and got a gift card. About a week later he went back for the same thing and I was eating it and found a black hair in the eggs (mine is gray) and he took it back and the manager said too bad, I ate part of it so we were out 11.00. Many reports of kids picking up serving utentils on the bar and tasting food as well. read more

Excellent selection on the bar. Food was fresh and warm for the most part, especially an hour before closing. Bar was neat and well maintained. Clean inside. Warm atmosphere. 22 bucks just bar and a drink before tip, a little high, but they did have ok steak, great ribs, and some good seafood. Maybe throw in a free coffee at the end and 22 bucks doesn't sound so bad lol. Not impressed. Waitress was nice, but told me the to-go box's I received would cost 10.99. Manager charged me 16.99 and when I brought it up he didn't care. I just paid for it since it was on Christmas Day. Food was alright but nothing special. Buffet food like a small Golden Corral. Only thing open today so figured I'd give it a try, don't think I'll ever try a Shoney's again..... Oh and OJ is watery. Coconut shrimp look good but ehhh. Flat fees with no weighing of to-go orders is my main complaint. read more

The folks here were kind and efficient. I was pleased with the way that the staff welcomed us. They had a special going on for children and even though it was later in the evening the waitress made sure they were treated to the opportunity. I enjoyed eating here. The coffee was fresh and the food was well made. The décor in the restaurant was done heavily in dark woods and for some reason that made me feel safe and welcome. There were bright decorations about the place and the lighting was well moderated - not too bright and not too dim. Service was prompt and the food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. All the dinnerware and cutlery were polished and clean. The soda-pop was fresh and the food well-seasoned. When in the area we will be sure to return again to this Shoney's. The place is kept very clean. The restrooms are all in working order. read more

Depends on the day of the week if lots of cars there they are open. Clean, nice seating. Very southern cuisine choices. I still prefer the smaller places to eat in WV. I like seafood so I go there on Friday nights when in area. read more

We stopped here to eat on our way back from norfolk Virginia on Christmas day! The buffet was all that was available; which would have been ok if it had been good, but it was not! It was terrible! The food was either over cooked or under cooked tasted bland or dry. The only thing that was edible was salad, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes. I will remember not to stop here on our trips. Then we got the bill of 16.99 a person! Had we known that we were going to pay 35 for terrible food we would have went to the gas station and had better food. read more

I always remembered Shoney's as a filling station with cheap ingredients that primarily appealed to diners over 80 years old - because their taste buds don't work. I stopped at this location - about ten years after I last ate at a Shoney's, and believe me - the description above recalls "the good old days." In other words - it's gotten a lot worse. The buffet was eleven dollars, but their goal is to fill you up without reaching that crucial "one dollar" in food cost. Let's start with the spaghetti. If you run a buffet and diners are stupid enough to fill up on spaghetti, don't cut corners. There's barely any cost anyway. But Shoney's worked their magic and managed to make their spaghetti the worst I've ever seen, touched or tasted. Though it was cold, it was chock full of the flavor of the water it was overcooked in. Mmmmmm. And the tomato sauce reminded me of off-brand ketchup. The meatballs were - I believe - hamburger helper mixed with potting soil. Ora che è italiano! (Now that's Italian!) They also had what I interpreted to be "fried chicken." As inhumane as it sounds - chickens are supposed to be slaughtered. Shoney's buys chickens that have died of malnutrition, perhaps after a long, steroid-addled life of laying eggs. The skin clung to the bones with nothing in between. It looked like a plastic fried chicken breast had melted. It tasted worse. I could go on and on, but you probably get the picture. I told my dinner companions that it tasted like hospital food with some seasoning. In retrospect that was far too charitable. It tasted more like something that would trigger an inmate-abuse lawsuit at a penitentiary. "Your honor, exhibit 'A,' described by the defendants as 'Chicken.'" The funniest part was the servers - begging for tips with phony southern charm as we walked out, full of regret. All the "see y'all's" and "come on backs" in the world wouldn't bring me back to this place. That was the worst meal I've eaten in 49 years on this earth. Even those blue-hairs won't keep you in business much longer. Shoney's, you should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

I applaud the employees for working on Thanksgiving, I do. But a employee started mopping around the buffet tonight while I was there and whatever chemical he was using began to evaporate and the stench filled the restaurant. It turned my stomach and gave me a horrible, horrible headache. This was around 1830, and the store doesn't close until 2300, so there was no reason to use industrial strength chemicals on the floor while people were eating. read more

Classic fried American restaurant food, circa 1977. Nostalgia makes me add a star more than it probably deserves but hell, I'm a softie. The highlight is the famous breakfast buffet, which is great for a low-carb stuff your face option. The coffee is mediocre but not bad. Off the menu, I go with a Slim Jim or the fish and chips, which is old school breaded and fried. Decent service. Relatively cheap. Not a destination but you can, and will, do worse elsewhere. read more

Traveling from Ohio to Virginia and stopped here to eat. Never been to a Shoney's before but there weren't that many choices in the area so we decided to try it. The building is older but looked well kept from the outside. Inside the decor is a little dated and a little worn around the edges but everything was clean - bathrooms, booths, and floor. Went to Shoneys in Belle,WV for breakfast buffet today and I have to say it was the best buffet I have eaten at any Shoneys. I quit eating at Shoneys because the food at the bar was getting worse and worse. i was very impressed with this one. I loved our server,Ellen, too. Very nice. Will go back. read more
