Bruno's Spotted Hare is fantastic. I stopped by recently with a family member while visiting, having heard good initial things about this restaurant. The space is gorgeous; it has the dark coziness of a lodge with beautiful, wild-inspired accents. We were seated in a booth near the window: the booth was comfortable but may be a tight squeeze if two larger adults are sitting on the same side (I'd recommend asking for a table in that case). I started off with an American Trilogy cocktail and loved it; it was surprisingly smooth and easy to drink while being flavorful. We debated appetizer options but went with the sourdough bread and butters. The butters were rosemary, garlic, and sorghum, and while all were great, the sorghum was a favorite. The bread was flavorful and nicely chewy. I'm always happy to see a vegetarian-friendly soup on a menu, so I ordered the beans and greens soup and loved it. It has a very deep flavor, yet the beans weren't overly mushy. The server (who was amazing) recommended some Tabasco for adding heat, which I enjoyed. For entrées, my dining partner got the fried chicken on the server's recommendation, and I got the mushroom pasta. The fried chicken was described by my relative as a crunchy coating with a moist meat; they called it "the best fried chicken" they've had. I tasted the mashed potatoes and can happily vouch for them, as they were creamy and perfectly seasoned. My dining partner raved about the home-style green beans, too. My mushroom pasta was fantastic. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and were flavorful without being slimy or mushy. The pasta was hearty and cooked al dente. As a pleasant surprise. I got a couple slices of bread with my pasta, too; this time topped with some cheese and seasoning. It was perfect for soaking up the last bits of pasta sauce, as I cleaned my plate. I got dessert to go; it was the cornmeal pound cake and packaged conveniently (with the ice cream separate). It was delicious even at home; the cake itself wasn't too sweet, meaning that the combination of it, the ice cream, and the honey had a perfect balance of flavor. I will try to make a special trip here whenever I'm in the area. It's a beautiful, special addition to the local dining scene. read more

We sat at the bar and took in the atmosphere. Visually stunning everywhere you look. The stained glass in the bar area gave off nice vibes. Service through the dinner was very good! The barkeep made delicious whisky sours. Now down to the nitty and the gritty. The bread and compound butters were a great start. I ordered the mushroom stroganoff and my husband ordered the dry aged steak w/grits. From both plates, the grits had the most flavor. I was embarrassed to have to sit there and shake the salt and pepper shakers to get so little out. We were both very disappointed and took several more bites, trying to like it, but the flavor just wasn't there. The flavor just wasn't there. read more

What a unique experience! There is no restaurant within hours drive that delivered excellence the way Bruno's did. The menu is exquisite with unusual, and even "Appalachian exotic", choices. ambiance is great. Food is ok, seems a tad overpriced. i highly doubt the steak I ordered was aged, it tasted like any steak you would get at Krogers ( and yes I have had aged steak multiple times), this was way to tough to have been aged. I would place a 5 dollar bet that the steak was aged 20 minutes as they ran from Krogers with it. also had some crawfish which was just 'meh' . the fish was paper thin like a wafer and I would say just slightly overdone. Presentation was nice, service was good. Aged steak...doubt it. Wafer fish not good, particles of crawfish in a crab cake like ball, just meh...needed a whole crawfish, not the pieces that fell away on the cutting board. read more

Had dinner tonight, service was incredibly quick and waitress was very attentive, food was very good and I recommend it. The booth by window was a bit chilly but comfortable. The ambience is traditional pub w a Victorian decor flair with the plates w game animals on them on the wall and detailed dark stained woodwork. Had a bowl of crawfish soup to start which was delicious and flavorful. I had the rabbit remoulade and wife had the trout, the rabbit was good, suggest to the chef it needs more mustard sauce drizzled over top as the meat or on the plate since this is a very lean meat which needs more fat beyond The crispy prosciutto wrap. Food got to the table warm versus hot. No salt and pepper shakers on the table. The flourless chocolate torte was incredible and the best chocolate dessert I've ever had and I have traveled the country..... wife had the strawberry rhubarb pie and she let me try and it was also very good. You have a talented baker here, kudos. Overall, very good food if a tad pricey. appreciate the menu planner being someone who combined Appalachian ingredients with culinary know how in the kitchen. I have some cooking skills myself and admire and emulate chef Jean Pierre and Daddy Jack's. Looking forward to trying steak here in the future. Yelp won't allow a 4.5, so going 4 as there were several OFI's. Thanks again for a delicious dinner, I will be back and bring some family and friends. read more

My family and 2 friends had dinner at Bruno's Spotted Hare. The food was outstanding and the service perfect. The restaurant decor is very inviting, but go for the food. Our table shared a number of appetizers, and my favorite was the smoked trout dip. The crawfish soup was very tasty, as was the beans and greens soup. For dinner our party members variously had the venison ragu, the trout, the catfish and the duck breast. We shared bites and all the dishes were delicious. I heartily recommend this restaurant.
