This place is great. It has everything and the staff is super friendly about showing you where to find what you are looking for.

I love Shop 'n Kart. I can find things here that I can't find anywhere else like fresh arugula and broccoli sprouts, small onions, and an excellent assortment of Woodstock frozen dark, sweet cherries, petite peas, petite white corn that are difficult to find elsewhere in the Rogue Valley. On the other side of the coin, whomever in the store is in charge of pricing seems to be out of touch in some areas. For example, last week a bunch of celery was $5 while at Medford Food Co-op the organic celery was $3 a bunch and looked gorgeous. Tasted gorgeous, too. Since HerbPharm was sold a couple of years ago, their prices have increased SIGNIFICANTLY -- almost doubling with some products. One of those products is Valerian 4 ounce bottles. Last summer I used to pay around $30 a bottle. Right now at Shop 'n Kart that same bottle is $47.99. No way. Needless to say, I did not purchase it there. I checked on Amazon where the price was less expensive but I thought I could still do better I went to Medford Food Co-op and found the exact thing I was looking for. The Wednesday wellness discount of 10% plus my $5 owner discount brought the price per bottle down to a little over $30. BIG improvement!!! I purchased three bottles and did the rest of my shopping in the store. When I encounter price gouging like what I described earlier in this review, it causes me to leave the store and do the rest of my shopping elsewhere. I mainly shop here. They have lovely produce and dry goods and fish. Plenty of selection on non typical items too. My issue is with the beef selection. I have had to return or notify staff of ROTTING meat on the shelf. Or expired meat that had discounts on it. All of this is highly avoidable and I have spoke to others and to staff who won't buy the meat here. I buy my meat at the coop in Ashland. I wish they took better care of this department. read more

I've been shopping at Shop N Kart for several years; this is one of few places where us locals shop regularly. I can often find the exact same products seen at Market of Choice, but for a fraction of the cost. I think this place is more word of mouth, while tourists seem to be directed to the Ashland Co-op and Market of Choice (all are good choices). Shop N Kart is the kind of place that you check out the sales and then decide what to cook for dinner. I regularly find excellent wine prices, huge craft beer selections, LOTS AND LOTS of locally made products and plenty small batch locally produced Oregon products available (extensive selection of Rogue Creamery cheeses and locally made cheese curds are always available). For the last couple of years, I put together holiday gift boxes with food products made here in Oregon. Last year was breakfast themed: local Rogue Valley Coffee (whole or ground), local jams, honey (local), small batch local nut butters (Ashland business), Yes! Bakery gluten-free bread (Ashland business) and I always like to throw in a couple of unique flavored organic dark chocolate bars (Ashland and local). When it's on SALE... BUY A BUNCH! Customer Service is always good (friendly and attentive), but today it was OUTSTANDING! I stood in front of the La Croix selection of 12-packs (don't judge) and they seemed to have every flavor but the one I came for. One of the workers *new staff, I didn't recognize him* asked which flavor I was looking for. I told him and he scanned the shelves and the stack and asked if I had a few minutes and he would go check the stock in the back and to continue my shopping and check back on my way out. Um, yes! LESS than 5 minutes later, the staffer found me in a random isle and had 4 boxes of the flavor I was looking for?! Of course I took all 4 :D People are complaining about staffing shortages, but Shop N Kart is consistently what I would consider possibly over-staffed, but I'm not complaining. This place must be doing something right, because I have come in on several occasions and had some pretty obscure inquiries and Shop N Kart staff has ALWAYS come through of at least was able to find a solution. 5-STARS! If you NOT in a hurry, you WILL BE PLEASANTLY SUPRISED with both the selection and the prices on the most obscure health conscious products; not as organized like a Safeway so take your time. Come in with an open mind and you will find gems in every nook and cranny. The corner sections are a way to try high quality food and beverages at deeply discounted prices: the wine towards the front, produce discounts on the isle behind the bananas/plaintains, frozen deals by the bulk dry section section, use-soon meats under the sausages/ across from the frozen pet food. Too many deals to list, but bring your own bags, take your time and you will not be sorry. I live in Humboldt County CA and visited the Shop N Cart when I visited Ashland as I remembered it being a really neat store. I purchased $216 worth of goods. An item I thought was on sale turned out not to be on sale and so I returned it before leaving the store. When I got home I saw on my bank statement that instead of giving me credit for the return, Shop n Cart charged me for the return. so now I'm out $64 with no product. But hey, no problem, people make mistakes and there's Always a way to fix something this simple , right? Wrong. I have my receipt and a picture of the charge. I called Shop n Cart and talked to their finance person. she repeatedly told me I'd have to come in. I repeatedly told her that isn't possible from Humboldt County (I believe it will cost me a bit more than $64 to drive there and back). in her absolute sweetest voice she repeated over and over that it was Impossible to refund my money. MY money and Shop n Cart made the mistake. I told her I could send a photo of my visa, the receipt with the returned product circled and a picture showing that Shop N Cart charged me instead of refunded me. Nope. no possible way. i must get in my car and drive to Ashland to get my money. I simply want my money that is owed to me. shame shame shame on this ladies unwillingness and utter lack of creativity to find a way to refund me money that belongs to me. I have a connection up there and will just mail all the gifts I bought from Shop n Cart and have her return them. I don't support businesses with policies that don't make sense or that have the inability to think a moment and make right a mistake that THEY MADE! Happy Holidays Everyone. read more

Health issues here that need to be looked into. We observed an employee stocking shelves and drinking one of the beverages from the shelf and then placing the bottle BACK ON THE SHELF. When he observed that we were witness to his bizarre action, he incredulously declared he WORKED HERE, and THIS IS WHERE I STORE MY DRINK CONTAINER! Clearly, his demeanor suggested, the problem was us! As his next comment affirmed, 'Oh my Gawd, I can't believe it!' This statement HE made to US, when we asked why he was putting a contaminated container on the shelf. read more

Go Where You Are Treated Best....and it's not Shop N Kart. Bad experiences several times. Too bad they don't value their customers. They discriminate against and treat some people different than others. When brought to the attention of human resources they just let us know that is the way the worker is. Also the place is not very cleanly. What a find! I was in Ashland for the night, had a nice room with a view of the sun setting, just wanted to enjoy that with a bottle of wine, some cheese, bread and crackers. This little local store is a gem! The wine selection was decent, the cheese selection had local representation, and found local sourdough as well! Melissa or Marissa. The "Floor Manager" really needs to understand the term "customer service" she scoffed because I went through her line. Even though she was there to help the other clerk. Forgot to ring on two of my item that were on the belt and I asked if she got these two other items, she scoffed again and rolled her eyes and cancelled the first transaction to make a new one. Proceeded to say; after I asked her how the day was, "oh I'm still here working." And then sat down in front of the door while the other clerk was probably about 8 or 9 customers deep in line. read more

I want to try and give this place more than 3 stars, which is 'just ok.' I have put aside the fact I'm a super loyal Trader Joe shopper, I live in Ashland and supporting local business is important to me. Yet, apart from the staff at the fresh produce department (they are the friendliest), I'm just not feeling it in this store. I really want to like Shop N Kart and go back over and over again. Fresh produce is good, no doubt about that. I do buy coffee in bulk here, nothing wrong with that. Their bread section I skip, nothing special. No great artisanal bread nor good baguette. Frozen section is ok, but compared to other stores overpriced. Good wine department. I will definitely not buy meat nor fish here, that's the department I just don't find super appealing. The meat doesn't look that good. At all. I've had many times I saw meat with a grey-ish color. I have seen so many different staff members in the store, that I am tempted to think it's the staff. I'd like to think returning customers are important to a store, so customers should be valued and approached friendly. And that's exactly what's lacking here at Shop N Kart. I don't always need the Hawaii shirt happiness of trader Joe, but a little friendliness goes a long way. read more

Locals told me this is the place to go, but I seriously don't think so. The WORST customer service ever, it's basically non-existent. I purchased a bottle of vitamins and got charged twice. I noticed the error right outside the front door while looking at the receipt. The cashier abruptly stated I had to get back in line for a refund. It was a long line and memorial day weekend. I selected the shortest line possible and the guy still had to make two intercom calls to get a refund approved. The people in line behind me didn't look happy, nor was I. If you shop here, watch the register screen! The produce here looks like it's on it's last leg. Seriously, you may as well shop at Trader Joe's, as their food has more chi. Very few things in produce look fresh and last long. Also, the prepared foods are horrible. Purchased a chicken wrap and there was one slice of meat on it. You get what you pay for at Shop n Kart. I will go to other stores in Ashland including the CO-OP - which is always great!!! read more

Prices are as low as can be. As a customer my problem is getting routinely run over by employees in a hurry to stock shelves, go on break, etc. Customers seem to be generally considered a nuisance at SNK in general. There's so much to appreciate at Shopnkart I wouldn't know where to begin. The prices are the best in the valley and for the most part the employees are really awesome. (Yes there's a but coming up.) Because I do like this store so much I feel free to say some thing a little more critical about it that I need to say now. I happen to know that employees at this store, especially of late are on the receiving end of a lot of rudeness by customers that is unfair. Because of that I feel that ShopnKart employees deserve considerable latitude. It's understandable that they may be a little cranky with good reason for it. What I want to talk about now is how I have also been experiencing being on the receiving end of of customers' rude behavior some of which has been happening when I am in line. For example, part of my job is shopping for other people that are disabled. Because of this I have several sets of groceries sometimes which are paid for separately. Recently,I paid for one set of groceries and then went back to the head of the register to the second set of groceries I had put on the counter. There was already a customer putting her groceries down on the end of the counter. It seemed only fair to give that person the benefit of the doubt after all I cannot expect other people to know that I'm dealing with a couple sets of groceries. So I politely asked her nicely if she would please allow for more space between us. Instead of being agreeable she was antagonistic making a snide comment about how there wasn't enough space because I was there! 'Yes, I'm here' I said to her 'because I need to be here, because I have these groceries (sitting on the counter in front of her) I am buying'. How absurd is that? I wasn't asking for her first born, I wasn't asking her for money, I wasn't asking her to invite me over for dinner- only for her to maintain social distancing. Then she tried to tell me there really was 6 feet between us which there wasn't. In other words she tried to argue about her rightness: There was me,then my grocery cart behind me, and then HER directly behind my shopping cart, so definitely NOT 6 feet, I can tell you that for sure. There's a difference between say 3-4 feet and 6 yes? The cashier was well-meaning and competent but dealt with it by trying to short circuit my legitimate concern- by basically agreeing with the person who was refusing to social distance. I know it is not easy to be firm with people who are not complying but it IS possible to speak directly to them, and still be personable, calm and polite. I care for people that are disabled, desire that myself and others whom I care for can stay well until we're safely on the other side of this. Because this well-meaning cashier did not want to deal with a contentious situation he basically shut me down so the situation was 'solved' (not!) but at my expense. This is enabling people to continue this kind of behavior. I wasn't overreacting but being reasonable. (Example of over reacting would be like when I asked a ShopnKart employee for help with something and they walked towards me, stood next to me then snapped at me for standing too close to them while they ranted on about the escalation of Covid. Yes, that really did happen to me last week.) The employees at Shopnkart are understandably pretty stressed out at times and are dealing with it sometimes very effectively and sometimes not. I think it's pretty safe to say that the previously mentioned over reacting employee was quite obviously stressed out by highly challenging working conditions, out on the raw and ragged edge, where he was misdirecting/acting out his upset at me. It is my hope that we can practice the protocols we need to with less defensiveness and more compassion! And after all, none of us is perfect so we are going to sometimes get defensive or be upset and I hope we can all forgive each other for that, grow a little and keep moving forward.There is so much to appreciate including the people working to produce the food, the truckers transporting it and all of the essential workers who are helping us get the food that we need when we're shopping at the store. They often have very good prices on items. However, it's a pain to shop there for several reasons. First, the check-out method with 1 checker going back and forth between 2 lines is horrible, checking out takes longer and there are more mistakes. Secondly, many times they have items on sale and the sale price is not updated into their point of sale. Even with watching the scanned prices I have been overcharged several times. An example is, last week that had XL Organic Eggs on sale for $1.99 a dz, but I was charged the regular price of around $4.35 a dozen. Also, watch the expiration date on their products! My husband was looking at cereals and some of the bags were dated "sell by 12/15/18". read more

Love Shop n' Kart! In the past I've usually gone online to purchase high quality vitamins and supplements, but miraculously there are times when this gem has even lower prices! One day I visited SNK to find out the price for my fave women's multiple vitamins. Their price was not only lower than online, but they gave me a discount coupon for the particular brand, which saved me $15! Great customer service in this department, and they seem to be very well educated on the subject. In Los Angeles I mostly shop at Trader Joe's (miss Trader's *sniff) and occasionally at Whole Foods, and in Ashland Shop n' Cart and Market Of Choice are my two faves. SNK is my preference for organic produce and most non-dairy edibles. Minus one star for their scary bathroom. Good times. read more

This place is the Winco of Market of Choice. The Grocery Outlet of Whole Foods. The rare, affordable side of Ashland that I wish there was more of. Go here to get all your delicious and organic goodies for a reasonable price. They have excellent meat sales, great selection of EVERYTHING , and awesome service. It seems like a regular big ol' concrete cheap grocery place then out pop these weird, completely random aisles full of hippie clothes and endpieces covered in candles and buddahs. Hilarious. Shop 'n Kart is my favorite market in Ashland! Best prices, best service with friendly staff, and widest selection of top quality products!

What I like: Great selection of organic, processed, and "normal" side-by-side. Seeing a bottle of Clorox next to Ecover just doesn't normally happen. Largest selection of teas in town, good deals on wine and beer, pricing trends lower than the co-op but that can be deceptive. Good international prepared food selection, always some version of organic olive oil on sale, good selection of supplements. Oh, and did I mention? Huge variety of choice (but no P&G brand of bar soap). What I don't like: Service is mixed bag. They'll go out of their way to order wine for you, but the check out system is industrial break down - the bags don't have handles, and the cashier often is handling two lines at once. Produce quality is lower than at the Co-op or Market of Choice. Fish is usually farmed. And sometimes the place just seems dirty. read more

Until recently, I was always a loyal Market of Choice shopper. Shop n Kart seemed inconvenient, as it was all the way on the other side of town. Plus, I wasn't very fond of the name. That was until my doctor put me on a gluten and dairy free diet. As much as Market of Choice claims that they have a great gluten-free selection, it's really very limited. I initially went to Shop n Kart to price an expensive iron supplement that it only available at Shop n Kart or the co-op. Since I wasn't in the mood to get a whiff of really bad unwashed hippie BO, I decided to give the former location a try. And boy, am I ever glad I did! Shop n Kart's selection and prices are unbeatable. My fiance and I gasped at the surprisingly reasonable meat prices, and I was delighted to find that Shop n Kart not only boasted one type of gluten-free wraps, but a variety to choose from! Same with rice and soy cheese, soy and rice milk, curries, gluten-free baking mixes, etc. What a lifesaver! Needless to say, Shop n Kart is now our go-to market. read more

I review cookies. This is a review of the "People's Cake" Chocolate Chip Cookie. This cookie was smack on the money, it was thick not outrageously big (I do like some heftiness though), there was an abundance of large semi-sweet chunk morsels, this cookie really made my day! There was a great balance of ingredients - all of which I recognize and would put in my own batch of cookies. And the ingredients clearly were of quality. The mixing of ingredients seems to have been done well too. All these things add up to a good cookie! Only draw back, it was not quite softy-chewie enough if you know what I mean. It wasn't too dry, just not perfect in this department. That one drawback aside, this is my first 4 star cookie - good work People's Cake, and good choice of baker Shop N Kart! read more

Loved this place! It's like a small Whole Foods that doesn't rip you off and isn't owned by Amazon and that's open 'til Mindnight. We showed up like 10 minutes before close and not one staff member gave us grief about it. Which was like a miracle after the rest of our week. Check this out! Of all the stores in Ashland you might visit this might be the most unlikely as well as the most interesting and affordable. We originally stopped at Shop 'n Kart because we heard they had Caldera beer for lower prices than we could get down the road at the brewery (which is true), but once we found it we knew we had locked onto our main source for groceries and who knows what else when we're in Ashland. A little bit Food4Less, mixed with some Trader Joe's, City Liquidators, and Whole Foods, this place has a stunning variety of good cheap stuff and really high quality gourmet, organic, dairy-free and gluten-free food. They also have such Only-In-Ashland offerings as a whole end-cap of sage smudge sticks, abalone shells and incense. Good luck finding that at Safeway. read more

Shop Kart was such a great place in Ashland. I really miss shopping there. Not only are the employees awesome, so is the food selection. They seem to mainly focus on organic/healthy food but aren't pretentious as Whole Foods or as pricey as Market of Choice. The fresh food there is really good quality and doesn't mold as soon as you bring it home. Also they have tons of packaged food for cheap! Yippppeee who doesn't enjoy that. Love this place. Recently discovered it after deciding co-op's in this area are probably most likely a sad sad joke, run by greedy white assholes. Can't wait to get back to better cities with honest establishments. They carry all, I mean ALL the same products for a FRACTION of the cost of any other "natural" or "organic" store in the area. I am in Ashland 5 days a week for school, so stopping at Shop'N'Kart on the way home is perfect. We even took a separate trip there last weekend and stopped at the Goodwill around the corner on the way home. Cool spot. I really like that the store is large enough to move around in, plenty of employees to help you out, and not just pretentious select products- actually have things that aren't strictly "natural" because lets face it, it's not that important. Especially like that their wellness is so inexpensive and affordable, after seeing the inner-workings of how a store like this works, I know how much things actually cost and how much a greedy mark-up can be. I've heard this store is great from a few people that live in Ashland. I tried it because I was looking for organic or at least no hormone meat. I never found a meat section, but what I did find were oddball soft drinks, expired crackers on clearance for 50 cents, and orange cauliflower with mold on it. I'm sure I must have just been so overwhelmed by the whole experience that I didn't see the meat department. There were a few mainstream items available in addition to a ton of organic type stuff. The store itself is oddly laid out, crowded and feels dirty. As a first time shopper, I was a little taken aback that I needed to bag my own groceries. The prices didn't seem so much cheaper that I should bag for myself. So, I bagged up my purchases and walked out. An employee followed me out with a box of cereal I forgot to bag. That was nice. Unfortunately, I also forgot a jug of vinegar and she didn't bring that to me. I didn't know it was missing until I got home and saw it missing. Yes, they did charge me for it. I'm not blaming the shop for this -- I'm the one that forgot it. I'm just mentioning it because the cashier was so quick to move onto the next sale that I felt rushed to bag and get out of the way. Doesn't seem like the best customer service to me. I will not return to this store if I can help it. The savings weren't that great, the freshness wasn't up to my standards and there was too much sensory overload for me. read more
