I like this place because it's huge and has so many things to choose from. Their bakery makes good things (love the cannoli chipwiches and the black olive focaccia bread) and they have things that are hard to find in other places, including this protein pudding my husband likes and Jiffy biscuit mix, which I like. People who work there are helpful and seem to know where things are. Everyone I've interacted with has been nice. It's not a problem for me to drive a few minutes out of my way to go here! read more

Store management is utterly clueless about how to run this store. The deli department is an absolute train wreck. An under-staffed counter with long lines, slow service, and empty/disorganized display cases. And the order-ahead system is a total joke. Someone needs to visit a competitor's store to see how it's done. There is so much to criticize that it's impossible to fit it all in one review, so I won't even try. Here's the bottom line: If you're looking for your "go-to" food store, this isn't it. I don't know what is going on with this store, but lately it stinks. You can't view the weekly circular online. I just called to see if they were open on Thanksgiving. I kept pressing the appropriate number and I kept getting a message saying invalid. No matter what number I pressed, I got the same message. I finally called TOPS, I was actually able to speak with a live person who was very pleasant. Tops may become my new grocery store. read more

Ughhh I cringe going in there because I know the long one I am going to be on in the checkout. Most items are never expired in their store because it gets purchased so quickly but their vegetables leave a lot to be desired especially their salad selection lots of old salad laying around . I don't think it's a bad store. Most of the employees wear a mask but I cannot say the same about the customers. When I was there prior to Thanksgiving I would say less than 50% of the customers were wearing masks. And you know they are they kind to hover over you as you're trying to pull out an onion or a banana just to piss you off and pass on a little COVID if possible. Last I heard the pandemic was not over yet, but apparently, it is in Putnam County. It'll be a cold day in Hell when I associate with anyone, relative friend or former friend, who flouts their germs as if they were some kind of special death candy, by not wearing a mask. I find the people here to be very friendly and helpful. I like the Shop Rite in Croton better (larger selection in the health food aisle which doesn't exist here), but I must say that the month-long Veterans' donation drive is too long. My husband recently passed and my monthly income has dropped while my living expenses are through the roof. I have donated, but I am tired of being asked to donate. Don't set high expectations for this place. incompetence and negligence is the norm. we ordered a leg of lamb from the butcher shop a month in advance and they never placed the order. on top of everything the people working there denied any wrong doing, a clear sign of horrible customer service. on top of that no one is held accountable for such gross incompetence. the manager was kind enough to try to find us some lamb at another Shop Rite but no luck. overall lesson here, if you want simple groceries, then your good but if your placing a more complicated order, you will be disappointed! read more

ShopRite in Carmel is under renovation - Finally ! Im excited to see the new changes awaiting this bargain haven neighborhood staple. I assume the reason the place is always packed is due to their great prices. So long lines is more of an FYI then a complaint. However, employees do a great job of managing the rush of shoppers, another bonus is all the coupons customers are given after purchase. I can never remember to use them but it is an incentive to return. read more

I don't have a problem with shoprite, it's my favorite supermarket. I do have a big problem with lazy customers that leave their shopping carts behind cars without returning it to where it belongs. The bakery is deceiving. I ordered a birthday cake. I wanted a German Blackforest cake. They said that they don't make them there. But last year they made a delicious one for me. With this cake for this year it was chocolate with the cherries inbtn. the layers. The decorations were a bit overboard. I like chocolate frosting but the frosting was out of a container from Betty Crocker frosting. I was very disappointed. A few days later I went to talk to the bakery manager. He said, "We don't bake the cakes here in our bakery." So I said, "Really sorry to hear that you just lost me as a customer. " Don't buy any cakes from their bakery! I thought the renovation would be a big help. NOT. The prices went up and I don't like how the store is organized. Takes far too long to pick up the basics of milk, bread, and produce. And they used to have great in-store made take-out salads (like greek, lettuce & tomato, etc.) and sandwiches which have been replaced by commercial items at twice the price for 1/2 the size. I got a friendly welcome at the door, I needed the restroom at some point and the employee walked me there. I went in yesterday because of their Grand Re-Opening; their sale flyer had a lot of great items at great prices - some too good to be true.(and I was correct!) I figured I would go here even though I stopped shopping here a few years ago (due to it being so crowded it was making it so hard to shop). BIG MISTAKE. While the store has a large variety of items, it is just too confusing and too big. I have trouble walking and it was like a workout just to get the items on my list. I went in the middle of the day on a Thursday and I noticed many senior citizens stopped in the middle of the aisles, looking bewildered. I had several people stop and ask me if I knew where certain items were located. I was confused, as well. For example - they had bread crumbs on sale for .69 with a coupon. I found the bread crumb aisle but the size that was on sale was not on the shelf. It figured! Only later on when I was going by the meat dept did I notice a bin full of bread crumbs - the ones on sale! They weren't even marked with a price, just thrown in a bin. They should have at least had a sign on the regular shelf stating that additional supplies were in the back of the store etc. Additionally, the prices in the flyer did not match the prices on the shelves. For example: Wesson Oil - I found it in the front of the store with a sale price of $4.99. It was actually on sale for $3.99, per the flyer. They gave it to me at the $3.99 price BUT they would NOT honor the price of Coca Cola 6 packs that they had in the sale flyer. The flyer had them advertised 4/$4.88. That is extremely low and seemed too good to be true. When I was checking out I asked the cashier about the price and she looked at the flyer like she had never seen it before. She really had no clue. She called over the manager and he said the price was really 4/$8.88 and he could not honor the lower price. The cashier asked if I still wanted the soda and I told her I did. It was not until I checked my receipt at home that I noticed she charged me the REGULAR price of $4.61 a 6 pack! If this was Hannafords they would give me double my money back for their error. The deli?- what a joke that was. There were 6 people behind the deli, all tripping over each other, laughing, talking. I take a number - 49. They are on customer 44. I figure my wait won't be long. I wait and wait and wait for them to call the next number. 15 minutes goes by. One of the clerks then hands 2 packages of meat to customer number 44 - two packages! It took that long? Then someone else called out the next number 45. There were 4 people after me. We all waited for such a long time. Their regular prices for not on sale items are higher than many area stores, for example - a half gallon of milk is $2.69. I can get the same milk for $1.99 at Trader Joe's in Danbury or at Hannafords. They had Tropicana OJ on sale for $1.99 if you buy 3. Hannafords has it for the same price this week and you don't need to buy 3 to get that price. The verdict? I'll stick to Hannafords. read more

Shoprite continues to disappoint even with close proximity to my home and the convenience of it. I dread going in there for needed items. It's always like an apocalypse there. Whenever there's an item I need they don't have it...something as simple as ground pepper yesterday...none in stock! When a storm hits or inclement weather of any kind the shelves are empty. When Covid hit Shoprite failed again. I have a few other Grocery stores I was happy to have in these times. They didn't have trouble stocking items and they didn't have ridiculous limits on frozen fruits and vegetables. 2 frozen items? really? even months after, they still have a limit of 3! Shall we talk about the quality of produce....let's use the simple avocado as an example. Only shoprite can accomplish this one! We would buy unripe avocados, place them in a bag to ripen and they will not ripen after weeks in the bag. When you cut them open they're hard as a rock and black inside. This is due to shoprite freezing their produce....they do this to most of their stock.
