This place drive me absolutely crazy. On one hand it's one of the few local spots to find Cooper Sharp in the deli. On the other, the checkout lanes (assisted or self check-out) were born in the imagination of a madman who hated order, worshipped chaos and is willing & thrilled to create havoc everyday for ShopRite customer. It's obvious the checkers in the assisted lanes don't get it this chaos either, because every time I've had to shimmy behind them on the same side of the register, they give me the "we know, it's weird, I'm sorry" look. I even tried to walk to the other side of the checkout, like every other grocery store on earth, and the checker asked me to... come over to their side and shimmy past, once again. Because that's how they had been asked to do it. Please, Kenny of ShopRite ownership, talk to your customers, and fix it. The person watching the area didn't say anything until someone else approached. She then informed me that there was a line that was not marked and arbitrarily up one aisle. I did not realize that it was mandatory to read minds at this location and being that I do not possess this trait, I probably should not patronize this location. read more

Best grocery store selection in the area, great prices, very friendly and helpful staff. I usually buy what I can at Walmart since it's the cheapest of all, but then go to ShopRite for the rest of my grocery shopping. Produce department is always fully stocked and fresh. read more

Easyish to locate items, however, check out was a different matter. I attempted to use self check out. There was no one waiting in line, so you would assume I would be the next to check out - WRONG. When I attempted to get to the self check out register, I was informed by an employee that I needed to enter from an aisle even though NO one else was waiting. I gave up and waited for an assisted check out. Very poor customer relations skills. Overall the store is decent enough, but this location gets two stars for an incredibly poorly executed and staffed front end. The register lanes are designed so that cashiers are forced to stand in the checkout lane. Every cart & customer has to squeeze by the attending cashiers. I used to enjoy shopping here. But since so many businesses like Walmart, Target, Acme and Safeway all have self checkout. This particular Shoprite is now exclusively self checkout. I personally do not like self checkout because I want that business to pay a member of the community a wage and not have me save them money by not supporting my community. Nonetheless, this particular ShopRite that ( upgraded to) self checkout to save corporates cash is now spending that saved money on security guards to checkout all customer bags against the receipts. Hands down the worst shopping experience here today. Visiting relatives from out of town (Texas). My first cart was a complete nightmare as the rubber was completely half off one of the wheels and bare white plastic was exposed. Second cart not any better. Stuck wheel making it impossible to maneuver. Then the "paper" bags completely tore apart when I took them out of my trunk. For what groceries cost these days this experience was abysmal. I really liked this ShopRite when we moved to the area last year. The ShopRite I used to go to in Delco had some of the self checkouts with the belts, and I really liked that way to checkout. Especially with no plastic bags the self checkout with the belt makes it easier to sort and bag my groceries the way I like to. And then it all changed like 4 months or so ago. I guess people complained about not having actual cashiers, so now your only options are standing in ridiculously long lines at the regular self checkouts or waiting at the 2-3 cashier lanes while you see the couple dozen closed lanes. None of the lanes are made to have a cashier so it makes it so anxiety inducing if you do go to a lane with a cashier because there's not enough room to stand and bag everything and they go way too fast. OMG how could this be a good idea? It's so gosh awful no matter when you go. And it's such a shame because the store offers a nice selection. It's also very annoying that the deli and the seafood counters don't open till 8 when the store opens at 6. I go early and usually leave before their open, so that means I end up having to make another trip during the week at lunchtime if I need anything from those sections. read more

Don't go here unless you're okay with spending 10+ minutes in line regardless of how many items you have . They constantly have the self check out closed for any reason , and even when it's open the same half of them are always "down for bookkeeping" and then they have maybe 2-4 cashier lanes open out of the TWENTY check out lanes. I door dash daily and I've seen the same 4-6 self checks out with the "closed for bookkeeping " sign for the last week . I'm sorry but I seriously doubt you need a week for that . I've watched them close self check out kiosk in the midst of a rush for seemingly no reason. They simply do not care if people are waiting in line for 15 mins . I hate coming here and only do it late night when it's for my own items .. if I have to come here at all that is . Everything else is fine . Shopping here at Bear Shoprite never again, i say that over and over but it is convenient. You are the female employee at self check telling me i have too many items and i will hold up the line, and go over to employee maned line. I had 22 items and 15 were all the same. I told the woman what about the lady in front of me that took 15 minutes to check out 8 items, slow as crap. I was done ringing out in 5 minutes. I said to the employee on my way out, you did not say anything to the woman taking 15 minute, but you quiz me about my 22 items that i was in and out in 5 minutes. Shoprite needs to get some employees willing to do there job and get rid of the rejects that lack customer service skills and are incompetent. This used to be my go-to store. Today, I waited almost an hour in line as they have installed SELF CHECKOUT ONLY. No cashiers. Most of us there were buying groceries for the week and so most of us were scanning and trying to adjust scanning items. The lines were backed up the aisle to the back of the store. When the scanner went down, we were told to move to the back of the line at one of the other scanners. I refused to do that as did others in the line we'd been in almost an hour. They finally did check us at customer service as we refused to wait in a new line for another hour. I am done with this store. I am so disappointed this happened. read more

This ShopRite sucks and management doesn't care. I have been a loyal shopper at this location for four years, ever since moving to the area. When I reached out to them with my concerns, I was told that someone would contact me, and what a surprise when that never happened. The store used to be great but they replaced more than half of their checkout lanes with self-checkout lanes. I am not opposed to self checkout if I have just a few things. After a certain hour, 8pm or so, there are no cashiers at the regular lanes to help you check out. This was very inconvenient when I was shopping with my toddler and had a large order. I had to scan and bag $200 worth of groceries while keeping my child from grabbing all of the nearby candy bars. The produce isn't always great. I have gotten very seedy mandarin oranges and mealy apples. The last time I got a box of mandarins, the whole box went moldy within two days. I maintain the humidity in my house so they weren't sitting out in a hot and humid kitchen. The final straw was when they stopped carrying Dairy Pure milk and replaced it with Hypoint. We always buy Dairy Pure because it has less hormones and is a better choice for my family. There's no sense in shopping here anymore. I may come off as nit-picky but shopping is a chore and this place has made it even more so, and the food I give to my family is something that is important to me. read more

One of the best supermarkets I've been to. Fine fine, you got me, I'm a shop rite snob, so? Their produce is fresh and fairly priced, and baked goods? Don't even get me started. I lived in the Midwest and they would charge more than $4 for a bundt cake and muffins. Never in my life have I been more happy to see a pound cake priced at $1.99. Aside from that, this place really looks new, clean and organized, really not what I was expecting from Delaware, since the one in east norriton, PA and edison, NJ really don't look too nice, but great job DE, give yourself a pat on the shoulder. read more

It took over an old Safeway but had to add on to encompass all the offerings. It is a nice clean grocery store with good size isles for shopper traffic. The food variety range from cheap to reasonable to normal people foodie items. Good variety of brands there is a great deli with a good offering of meats and cheeses. Bakery with pastries and bread. Cafe with hot items for sale. The produce is bountiful and fresh with organic options if you are so inclined. The staff was frisky land quick at the check out with lots of lanes and self checkout options. Since it is in a plaza type mall there is lots of parking and traffic signals to get in and out easily. read more

Do not go to the meat department if a certain employee is stocking the shelves. Local customers know who I am talking about. She will roll her eyes at you, ignore you if you ask a question and look at you with disgust if you select a package out of the group she just stocked. ShopRite vs. The Post Office I can't decide which provides the worst customer experience. Fortunately for me, there is Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Aldi, Lidl, Costco, Giant and Amazon as alternative choices. I spoke to the store manager at ShopRite, Governors Square-Newark De. about 2 issues. 1. To reduce costs (at the expense of customer service), the store is now predominantly self check out. If I bring my own bag, I have to wait until someone either checks my bag (which they never do), or override the system. I have to wait there if the employee is preoccupied, busy with something else, helping one of the many other customers that are having issues with their self check out line. (By the way, Walmart Self Checkout is effortless) 2. The scanner doesn't show the sale price for produce. It shows the regular price and then it shows the weight. Somewhere it will show some discount and I then have to subtract the discount from the regular price and then divide by the weight of the item to confirm the sale price. Are you kidding? Why not just show the sale price x the weight? It's a computer!!!! The manager told me to call the 1-800# for ShopRite to voice my complaint. I did! I was on hold for 20 minutes and finally hung up after I was told that I was #16 in line. I decided to contact the corporate office. There is no contact information for the corporate office. I guess they aren't interested in hearing from their customers. read more

This place is always packed. They sometimes have fresh local produce section which we always get when available. There's a sushi section, hot foods and sandwiches area too. You can sit and have a snack in there. The pharmacy people are extremely pleasant and it's right in the front entrance. The luncheon meat counter has pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses available if you don't have time to wait. I usually order at the kiosk and pick it up after I am done shopping. The have a small bakery area. I've had better experiences with cakes in other Shop Rites. They'll slice your bread for you if you ask. The lines at check out are always full but they do open a lot of lanes. It's a good store but the crowds can seem a bit overwhelming. I've always gotten a parking spot though. read more

I stood at the cash register with groceries for two of my neighbors families and my own with only one order in front of me with two items to ring up. The cashier was getting som flack from the customer ahead of me so she called her manager over. Her manager just ignored us and spent over 30 minutes ringing up the two items for the customr in front of me. I would have left the store but I had children waiting for me to pick them up and had already unloaded a conveyor full of three families food. I will never go to this Shop Rite again. Of course, the weekday shopping is the best, as opposed to the weekend. Great prices!! Unfortunately, the majority of the staff have a poor attitude and it shows when asked to provide "help" when needed, especially, at the check out lane. When you request "help," they slowly walk towards your register to help, then, the customer is not greeted by a friendly hello or smile. That is poor. There are three staff that are always cheerful, and if I could think of their names, I would include, however, I can tell you one is a African American female, mature and helpful, who has some type of lead role in ShopRite. She is always willing to help and without attitude. There is a young African American male, last name is Brown, who should be in a lead role, but, I feel he is not. He's just awesome. Then, there is a White female, mature and helpful. Produce staff very helpful. Customer Service staff, poor attitude and not friendly. Parking lot loaded with carts!!! This is the worst place I have been to for grocery shopping in terms of convenience. The parking lot is always a mess with cars parked over lines, carts thrown all around and overflowing from the return while the employee that is supposed to be retrieving them plays on their phone in the parking lot, and people driving way over the speed limit. The store itself is worse. No matter what time of day you go it is a madhouse. The prices are decent, which is the only reason we kept coming back, but it is not worth the hassle of taking 20 minutes to checkout. The food quality is pretty good, although I find their meat section extremely limited compared to other ShopRites I have been to. The only reason it does not get one star is because the food itself and selection is pretty good. The location, clientele, and staff (aside from the awesome fish staff), are what make this store so miserable to shop in. read more
