Our super delicious cakes made at the Shoprite bakery.
    Marlyn V.

It may seem strange to review a Shoprite, but there is another one in Fairless Hills (very close by to this one) and this is one is by far SUPERIOR! I currently do all my shopping here although the other one is probably a bit closer to home. But as some others have noted, the customer service here is phenomenal! My first experience was getting my baby shower cake (super last minute, since I was 8 months pregnant and moving), which I THOUGHT I had placed an order here but turns out it was lost. I came in to pay and the bakery lady was so excessively kind and apologetic. The manager even came to apologize personally and took my order again. The cake itself came out both beautiful and delicious! I hate fondant and didn't want anything too glamourous just a good pop of color and they really delivered for my circus themed baby shower. For all four cakes with different fillings came out to under $100 to feed about 70 people! Aside from this experience, just regular food shopping here is a pleasure. There are never crazy lines, and people that work here are so friendly. I have had representatives ask if I need coupons or a flyer, help me put my son in a baby carrier and even get help putting my groceries in my car. They have a great variety of food court items which are all really delicious and an excellent bakery. The only reason I take a star off is because their ethnic section really sucks. I know it's not very ethnic in this area, but it's literally half an aisle with just a handful of Latin and Asian items - I couldn't even find my usual mix for tikka masala. Besides this, this is definitely a great shoprite.

Gender Reveal Ruined-- Followed By The Worst Customer Service I've Ever Experienced…read more I have never written a negative review in my life, but this experience was so upsetting and handled so poorly that I feel obligated to share it. I ordered a gender reveal cake and was extremely clear from the very beginning that this was for a gender reveal and that I needed blue on the inside and white on the outside. When I placed the order, I gave very specific directions: white on the outside, blue on the inside. I even provided a photo of exactly what I wanted. Later that same day, I called back to confirm again: white on the outside, blue on the inside. Then when I picked the cake up, I had a third confirmation point. They read the instructions back to me and again confirmed it was supposed to be white on the outside and blue on the inside. I even verbally confirmed one more time before leaving the store. So there were three separate touch points of communication confirming the exact same thing. This cake was for my first baby's gender reveal. This was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for my husband and our family. I spent time planning this, buying flowers, an outfit, and setting up something incredibly special for us. When we cut the cake during the reveal -- while filming -- the inside was completely white. No blue. Nothing. The entire moment was ruined. My husband found out we were having a boy in the most anticlimactic, confusing way possible. It was heartbreaking and honestly humiliating to have planned something so meaningful only for it to completely fall apart because of a mistake that was confirmed THREE separate times. What made this exponentially worse was the customer service afterward. When I called the next morning, I was met with rudeness and condescension. Later, when someone finally called me back, I was literally asked if I was "sure" there wasn't blue inside -- as if I didn't just cut into and dig through my own cake. I had to prove their mistake by sending photos. During that same call, I explained how rude the first person I spoke to had been. The response I got was essentially, "Yeah... she really shouldn't be answering the phone" and that she's not very good at customer service. That honestly left me speechless. If someone is not good at customer service, why are they the person answering customer calls? Especially when those calls are about major life events and serious issues? It was one of the strangest, most unprofessional interactions I have ever had with a business in my life. At no point initially did anyone apologize. I had to be visibly upset and crying before anyone even attempted to say sorry. Even the owner never called me directly -- he texted asking me to call him about a refund. When I did call, there was still no real apology, just discussion about money. Let me be very clear: This was never about the $50. This was about ruining one of the most meaningful milestones of my life and then treating me like I was an inconvenience when I called about it. People make mistakes. I understand that. But how you handle the mistake is what defines your business -- and this was handled terribly from start to finish. I have never been treated so badly by so many people from one business, especially over something tied to a major life event. I will never use this bakery again, and I will absolutely be sharing this experience with others so they can make an informed decision. If you are trusting them with an important life event, I strongly suggest reconsidering.

It is a mini shop and can't offer the variety of the main store, but has enough onboard to keep things interesting. I was there this morning to pick up a light breakfast to consume at my Trenton office. Timing was perfect, as I walked in as the counter woman was carrying out a large open box of still warm rolls both sesame seeded and plain. Was a time I would devour these babies right out of the bag, because they were so perfectly textured and sour dough delicious. Recalling those grand old days, I ordered two seeded rolls with just a smear of cool butter, and a couple of brownies to share at work. Along with their better than decent Java, I contentedly bite into the first roll. The crisp shell gave way to the soft belly, with the butter adding a touch of flavor that mixed perfectly with the bread. An involuntary sigh escaped my lips. It was that eye-rollingly great. The brownie an hour later was dense with cake chocolate. Also, superb, and made my assistant very happy. This shop also makes sandwiches, but with a much shorter menu than Butler Street. If as good as the mothership, I am amazed that they haven't expanded to have room for the anticipated customer surge.

I went in this morning to check it out, and watch them make the donuts. The operation is run by a single woman who takes orders, cashiers, and runs the equipment that spins out the cake base rings of dough, boxes them and finally customizes each individually wearing green plastic gloves. A few dozen choices on their menu, but they are all about SWEETNESS, so to my tastebuds they all taste similarly with only small variations based more on the textures added (ie., Oreo cookie crumbled), than on taste - they are all excessively sugary. So, I ordered a peanut butter something, Oreo something else, strawberry dipped yabba and coffee cake dabba. I watched as she removed them from the deep fry machine and placed them in a box. I saw her customize the base one by one at the fixings table with a squirt here and a sprinkle there and a shake on the next. A messy process that left the accumulated accessorizers stuck to the bottom of the cardboard container. But, I was here to sample the donuts; not to overly criticize how they were made. On that scale I can report that the cake base was very good as fresh bakery items generally are. Soft, non-oily, pleasant vanilla flavored cake. The visual of colorful frosting was attractive and designed to play your imagination. Uber sweet regardless of custom finish, I enjoyed the plain donut foundation more than the slick and sticky icings. At $2.50 per, they are more expensive than chicken wings, with far less nourishment. Accept Duck Donuts for what it is - a sweet entertaining distraction. Maybe that's all Duck Donuts needs to be. 5 Novelty Stars.
