Three years ago, we purchased a Generac generator from Short Circuit Electric. It has been a lifesaver not only in winter (when we thought that we'd use it the most), but also in the summer (when PG&E began turning off power in high winds due to fire danger). We thought that our generator had been installed correctly, since it seemed to be working well, but when we had a home inspection during the process of selling our home, we were told by the inspector that the generator had not been installed up to code. The electrical wire (which runs from one end of our home to the other end --- under the house) was simply lying on the ground (not secured up off the ground as per code). When we called Short Circuit Electric, they explained that the previous owner had not installed it properly; however, unlike many companies that would have passed the buck and said that we'd have to pay to have the wiring installed correctly, the Operations Manager (Will Heissenbuttel) called the new owner of the company (Ray Ryan) who said that they wanted to make it right for us (even though they'd had nothing to do with the sub-par initial installation). Within a couple of days, the had a work crew (Joe Woodruff and Drew Soares) out to our home making all of the necessary repairs. It took them over four hours, and yet they charged us nothing. In the process of making those repairs, they also inspected our generator and found an electrical issue that we hadn't even realized was a problem. They once again repaired the damage, charged the work/materials to our warranty, and had our generator working as good as new. We can't say enough positive things about the staff and new owner of Short Circuit Electric! The staff was punctual, hard working, dependable, conscientious, and respectful. To find a company who will not only stand by their product when they've been the ones who've installed it, but who will also have the integrity to take care of the previous owner's mistakes is about as rare as it gets in today's society! If you're considering a generator (which I think everyone in the foothills, especially on the outskirts of town, should think about), I give my highest recommendation to use Short Circuit Electric. Short Circuit Electric just completed the installing of our Generac 22KW generator, transfer switch and gas line at our home in Pioneer. They did an awesome job all around! They came by and consulted with us about the size generator that would meet our needs. They scheduled an installation date along with a site visit. They coordinated with the local propane company for a same day tank install. They help us to acquire the appropriate permits from Amador County ( for a reasonable fee). They were able to install the generator, install and tie in the Transfer switch, trench and connect the gas line from the tank to the generator all in one day. Very clean and professional electrical install! If you are in Amador County and haven't had a generator installed yet, don't wait! Give Short Circuit Electric a call! Short Circuit Electric (SCE) did not provide a detailed written contract prior to arriving at my home to install a Generac generator. SCE then showed me, via a tablet, the cost. Included in the cost was SALES TAX on the entire job...NON-SENSE. Labor is NEVER taxable. I am a retired CPA and know tax law. I think what they were doing was pocketing the sales tax that I was going pay on labor...not pay the State Board of Equalization. They threated to put a lien on my home for almost $15,000 even though they never installed the generator; more nonsense. They would not leave my property and I told them that I would call the Sheriff's Dept. for trespassing. They left. The end. My advice is to stay away from SCE. read more

They took the initiative to have the engine replaced in our new Generac (I got one of the new ones that had a problem with burning too much oil). I appreciate that they took care of the problem without me having to "hound" them. Even in the wake of the power shutdowns and an unexpected increase in Short Circuit's workload, they have managed their time well and, I believe, they get back to me as soon as is resonably possible, either via phone or email. I had a Generac installed in April by Short Circuit. It sustained its first real test over the last couple of days as a result of PG&E's power cutoff. It worked very well, and among other things it saved a couple of hundred dollars of food from spoiling. Moreover, contrary to some of the reviews of other responders, Short Circuit in my experience has been infinitely more responsive than any of a number of other companies that I contacted before making my investment. Got cold-called for gen service in late April/20. I do my own oil/filter/spark plug service, but needed a valve adjustment. Tech came, adjusted valves, paid him $150 and he left. Gen was in "overspeed fail" condition unbeknownst to me when he arrived. Tech told me but didnt address/fix it. 2 weeks later, gen failed-"overspeed". Called back out, tech couldnt fix cuz I had moved switch to neutral..."Call again if it fails". 2 weeks later, fail. Called, same tech comes out, says "hmmm-valves out of adjustment". Adjusted valves (again), then had conversation about propane regulator/suppy may be the problem. Tech had also removed and gapped plugs (10 mins), and manually moved some linkages but majority of time was spent in 2nd valve adjustment. Got bill for $195.00 for "service"- "valve adjustment" a week later. Office unbending as to why I should have to pay twice for the same service. Says "he did so much more than a valve adjustment". He didnt. Before this tech came out again I tried to get a different tech because this one (Kevin) inspired no confidence. Unable-he was "the only one qualified to work on my unit". These are new owners of the business (less than 1 year) I had previously knew, enjoyed and respected, and had gotten great service from. Nothing lasts forever-will not use them in the future-will call Stockton Generac and pay the freight for the service call and peace of mind that its done right. read more

I really don't know why this company bothers to pay for yellow page listing. Over the past year I have called them twice to help with two different electrical issues, and they just are not responsive. The first time, I received a callback almost 2 weeks later. This time, I have placed multiple calls and finally reached the owner. He told me he was busy but that he would call me the following week to set up an appointment. He never did. I called to ask him just to give me an approximate date, but he never returned my call. We are in a rural area without many options, otherwise I would not have called him the second time. I can understand being busy, but I cannot understand poor customer service. read more

I recently decided to add a generator to my house since I live in an area where PG&E has posted as a high fire area and will be turning power off during dangerous weather times. I researched companies (10) and ended up with 4 to choose from. My final decision was with Short Circuit Electric out of Jackson Calif. They had also been recommended by Generac generators on the east coast. I found that this company has outstanding service. They gave me a date and a time frame and completed the project on time. When it came to getting the paper work I needed for the county, they supplied it right away. The personnel from the owner to the workers were professional and understood the system. When the county came out to inspect the job, they were there and everything check out. This company is using the newest wiring bundle where all the wires are in cased in one bundle including the WIFI wire. The county inspector had not seen this wire before and was impressed and took a sample back to the office. I have been in touch with Jill from Short Circuit and she sent me the final information including the warranty. Lastly, the price they quoted for the 22KW and installation was the price I paid.
