This is where the ACU lives. It's the CD player basically. It's just a square component with all the circuits inside.

Had what first appeared to be a speaker issue. Troubleshot much of it ourselves for the 2016 Ford Escape in question. The scratchy intermittent issue was looking like an amplifier problem. Called another shop who referred me to Short Circuit. These guys are very helpful and knowledgeable...you can tell right off the bat. As I suffered thru the various symptoms which was crackling, no sound at all, couldn't use hands free..., but when I couldn't get the touchscreen to respond in certain spots, I narrowed it to probably be the ACU (audio control unit). We took it out of the dash itself to save the labor on that. Took it in and in a week I had it back. Year warranty. These guys know what they're doing as they've done it for 25+ yrs. They repair the 'guts' inside and they diagnose before they charge. And the replace is much more costly and involves reprograming by Ford. Where this unit sits, it's unlikely that something happened. It's age. So if you're approaching the 10 year mark and you start to have sound issues, remember these guys. Great knowledge and service (shout out to Mark) matter. It's NOT located in a retail strip mall type area. So when you map it, don't get thrown by that.

Absolute miracle workers. My 2001 Audi TT comfort control module had some water damage which caused a wide set of failures with the soft top, trunk latch, gas cap, central locks, etc I dropped off my removed module in the morning and by mid-day, it had been worked on. I brought it home and saying a prayer, plugged it back in. Everything came to life, every failure gone. My older brother recommended you from a radio of his that you fixed and he was right as usual. Thanks guys. Top notch effort.

Here's an NSX getting service work at Short Circuit Repair

I've taken multiple cars here (BMW, Audi, & VW) after the warranty expired and they always get things sorted out. Steve and Mark are great, just give them a call and they'll help you out.

Also, they promised a date when the fan would be available, and I believed it. However, when the day came, they said they would need another few days. Using the computer was very important to me, so I got annoyed and switched to another place. At the new place, I was told the issue with my computer was because of a completely different reason, and they helped me repair it smoothly. Glad that the delay helped me avoid further loss with this unreliable KY electronics. Unfortunately, although the diagnosis result was a complete error. I was not refunded for the diagnosis fee. Edit: The business owner replied saying that my job was on May 29, 2024, which is completely false. I wasn't even at the Bay Area during that time. Either he intentionally mixed me up with someone else or simply made up the story. Apparently, I have no point of making up a negative review if being satisfied as the customer, but the business owner has full motivation to respond to negative reviews by making up stories when he cannot reasonably dispute it, and it seems he has been doing it for many other reviews as well.

Staff: friendly and responsive Cost: about what I expect…read morefor a technical service and in a high cost / high wage area Service: I brought my phone in due to expanding battery to get a replacement. It had no operational issues at all, the only issue was that the screen had started to separate from the frame and they diagnosed it as a swollen battery. Phone is just shy of 2 years old, so no warranty but also plenty of life left so I opted for the battery replacement. I was told it was easy, no issues, come back in 1-2 hours. When I first picked up my phone, it worked completely fine for ~15 hours. However the next morning the screen just went dark mid-text and there was nothing I could do to get it on. I did manual power cycles etc, no response. I was pretty sure the phone was still on because it would heat & cool like it was processing. I returned and they made it clear if it was just a loose connection it would be free, but if it was another issue there'd be a charge. Turned out to just be a loose connection, no charge, and I picked it up a couple of hours later. Only this time, within 30 minutes of getting my phone back, it had frozen & rebooted 3 times. Fairly light usage - just Google Maps to navigate home during / to avoid traffic. I immediately turned back around and dropped the phone back off - was told it wasn't anything they did but they would try to diagnose it. The next day (Saturday) they never called me with an update and it was getting towards lunch so I called them, since they are closed Sunday and I didn't want to be without my phone for that long. They said they had run a stress test on it with no issue but shared nothing beyond that even when I tried asking for specifics about what the test is, how they knew it didn't reboot, etc. I picked it up, no charge. The phone worked for 5-6 hours and then had reboot issues. It stabilized and worked again for ~5-6 hours then had reboot issues. Throughout Sunday while they were closed, the phone froze and rebooted about every 30 minutes on average. I was so fed up and needed my phone to work and they were unwilling to deal with the issue. I ended up purchasing a new phone, but can't get a refund or even partial refund even though my phone worked fine before they opened it up and now is all but unusable. If this was a significant risk of the process, they should have stated that. I would have bought a new phone ($600) vs replacing the batter ($240). I am incredibly frustrated with everything about this process and won't use them again unless it's the most minor of repairs like cleaning a charging port. I won't let them open up another phone in the future that's for sure.

I was asked if I wanted expedited service and of course I said "yes" to the charge of $99 since I needed it turned around fast. On Friday I called to find out the status and was told that it needed to be "opened" and if I approved (another charge) with no commitment as to when it would be fixed. Saturday was the tech's day off and they are not open on Sunday so no apparent rush to fix it. On Monday I was asked if I needed the data. I had originally said "no" because I had my data backed up on Carbonite. I asked about the Apps that I had and the tech said they would be wiped as well so I decided to save the data and apps. This was a $199 charge to "determine if the data was salvageable" by testing the SSD. I was then called and told that yes, the SSD was salvageable and there would be a $599 charge to recover it. Each step was a dagger because I needed my computer and the data/apps so I approved the charges. I finally got my computer back on Monday afternoon with a $1,600 bill feeling like I should have just bought a new computer and put up with reinstalling my apps. I got the computer home, hooked into my system and it worked fine. The next morning it was dead again. I hooked it up to a spare charger (bypassing the powered hub) and the computer was back to life. The entire problem was my hub charger! At no time was I advised that a charger might have been the problem and was instead overcharged for work that wasn't needed (probably not even opened to get to the SSD that I was bill around $800 for testing and recovery.) THIS PLACE IS A RIPOFF! I'm thinking of reporting them to the BBB. Update on 08/14/26: Eddy from ClickAway reached out to explain the services that were performed on my laptop. After his explanation I am now better informed of the work and charges and better appreciate what was needed to get it restored to working order. I replaced it with a used Subaru Impreza that didnt come with a reverse camera. My mom uses the car alot, so she's going to need the reverse camera :) I arrived 15 minutes before closing on Friday and since I didnt want to keep them after closing, basically told them what model car I just bought, and what I was looking for. Double din head unit w/ reverse camera, and some aftermarket replacement door speakers. They asked if I wanted to keep the steering wheel control functions, which I did... so he mentioned what else I needed in order to keep them functional with the new stereo. He asked if Android Auto / Apple play is important to me, and if i wanted it wired/wireless. This day in age, we want everything wireless and convenient, so I said yes to the wireless feature! I mentioned I was interested in component speakers for the front doors, and he suggested where to install the tweeters, and also told me I would need some mounting plates for the dashboard for the tweeters. This way I dont have to drill a hole in the door panel. All in all... Its nice to have someone ask the right questions to ensure I had everything I needed to complete the installation over the weekend, because I would not have had the tweeter mounts if he didnt ask about my installation. I would like to mention that I wanted to have everything I needed for the weekend installation project, so I didnt check around for lower prices, but when I got home... the "Asian habits" in me decided to check prices on Amazon, and Guru's prices were either on par... or slightly below Amazon's prices! I didn't know what to expect coming here... I waited at the front of the garage for about 15 minutes. There was a guy smirking in the front, doing something with cables, 2 other people working on a car, and another guy going in and out doing some kinda repair work on a truck outside. None of them said hi to me. But I know they all saw me. It was very weird. Finally after about 10 minutes of waiting (I figured maybe the owner was on lunch, since this was about 1pm), I walked up to the smirking guy and asked if the owner was here. Then he just nodded and pointed to the right, which was a very small aisle BEHIND a big stack of boxes. It was very off-putting. But I was here, and I had a time crunch. The actual owner was nice... he asked about my car, and then showed me some models. I made a purchase, and he told me to come back in 2 hours. I walked to a nearby Carls Jr, about 7 mintues away. 2 hours later, right on the dot, I get a call to get my car, and they close sharp at 4:30p. The same guy who was walking in and out (remember fixing the truck), was the one who showed me how everything worked, helped me pair my phone. I paid about $950 after taxes. I don't know if that's a good deal, but everything works well, no scratches around the dash. If it weren't for the unwelcoming first impression, this would be a 5 star for me. I wanted to give them 3 stars, but this is clearly a small business owner. My hope is they read this and work on their welcoming attitude.
