4.5 stars! Great service and experience overall. I came in for a shorted main board on my 2016 Lexus radio. I was told the replacement of board and all other parts was sourced from the OEM manufacturer, and took roughly 2 weeks to ship and repair. There was a hiccup in my unit and diagnosis and I had to wait an additional 2 weeks for another shipment and repair. When plugging the radio into my car at home, my issues reoccurred, they took my radio right back in as well as my car, no questions asked, and solved the problem within a few hours. Again, no questions asked. Honored their warranty and everything. Some things I did want to mention, to replace two boards in my radio plus labor was roughly $1400. Basically the entire radio was fried and everything had to be replaced internally. This is radio only, as I brought my radio in stand alone without my car. And although I asked for detailed part numbers and names on my invoice of exactly what parts were being bought, I never received that in my invoice. I wish they were more transparent but I can't complain since everything was fixed and done properly. read more

He says diagnosis is free over the phone, but tells you about the cost for removing & putting the stereo back ($160) only AFTER you get there. If you want outstanding customer service, knowledgeable and friendly staff, an honest and fair evaluation of your CD/audio/video, etc... issues, this is the place!! We were referred to Short Circuit Repair by our auto body repair shop. Our CD player was not working and the dealer told us that we would need to replace the entire unit, which would have been very expensive! So, we scheduled an appointment and drove from San Francisco to San Jose for a second opinion in the hopes that they could fix it. The car was taken in the back for a diagnostic check which would entail removing the CD player. Before it was done, Mark asked us a few questions and said he would test it out first. A few minutes later, he came back and said they put their own test CD's in, and they played just fine! We were shocked as the CD's we both tried, immediately ejected sighting "unreadable". Mark took it one step further and tested our CD's and once again reported that they worked! As a matter of fact, my favorite Luther Vandross CD was playing at that very moment in the car! He had already brought our car around and told us that we were good to go. When we went to pay, he just smiled and sent us on our way! We've had no problem since. Had what first appeared to be a speaker issue. Troubleshot much of it ourselves for the 2016 Ford Escape in question. The scratchy intermittent issue was looking like an amplifier problem. Called another shop who referred me to Short Circuit. These guys are very helpful and knowledgeable...you can tell right off the bat. As I suffered thru the various symptoms which was crackling, no sound at all, couldn't use hands free..., but when I couldn't get the touchscreen to respond in certain spots, I narrowed it to probably be the ACU (audio control unit). We took it out of the dash itself to save the labor on that. Took it in and in a week I had it back. Year warranty. These guys know what they're doing as they've done it for 25+ yrs. They repair the 'guts' inside and they diagnose before they charge. And the replace is much more costly and involves reprograming by Ford. Where this unit sits, it's unlikely that something happened. It's age. So if you're approaching the 10 year mark and you start to have sound issues, remember these guys. Great knowledge and service (shout out to Mark) matter. It's NOT located in a retail strip mall type area. So when you map it, don't get thrown by that. read more

Absolute miracle workers. My 2001 Audi TT comfort control module had some water damage which caused a wide set of failures with the soft top, trunk latch, gas cap, central locks, etc I dropped off my removed module in the morning and by mid-day, it had been worked on. It has been one year since my Toyota's OEM JBL amp was repaired by this shop and it is still going strong. The best customer service of any company I have dealt with in the past 20 years. I sent them a 35 yr old JDM Sony CD changer (they all died after little use and parts are non-existent) and hoped they could pull off a miracle. I told them to keep it as long as they'd like, and if they find the parts, we're golden. They did their best, they kept in contact with me, and in the end, there were no parts to be had. They charge NOTHING for their time if they cannot fix it. I said to them, WTF? You took it apart, why are you not charging me? They said it is their policy that if they can't produce an estimate, there is no charge, and that is on top of the excellent customer service. I think these guys are GREAT! They diagnosed my old radio to have a bad motherboard, and since it was 14 years old, parts are hard to get. They finally found one, but at $965, I decided to pass. I got another unit online, but it didn't display the backup camera view. Both were diagnosed for FREE, and that must have taken some time. They also kept me informed by phone. Walked in an amp for a 2016 Cayenne. They couldn't give me an estimate on the spot to my disappointment, and told me it would be about a week to know what it would cost and how long it would take. After a week I reached out and was told the amp had extensive water damage (blocked sunroof drain plug) and that it would cost $680 and would take 10 business days or so. I approved it and received my amp in the mail a couple weeks later. After reinstallation my cayenne was as good as new! Although the timing sometimes required patience, this place is knowledgeable and meticulous. Plus, considering the alternative of replacing that amp with a costly new one or playing Russian roulette with junkyards for god knows how long, this is definitely the best option. Give yourself about a month of downtime, and your expectations should be pleasantly exceeded. Would definitely recommend. Professional, knowledgeable, and direct. My Cadillac Escalade CD/DVD system wasn't working and was giving me an error message when I tried to play a CD or DVD. This system is from 2007. It's has Bose speakers and I didn't want a new set up. Guru Electronics recommended I call Short Circuit. I got a diagnostic appointment the next day. They took my system out and sent me on my way with an empty dash. Short Circuit called the next day with the diagnosis and cost to repair. I agreed to the repair, the work was done within two days and my system was reinstalled within 30 min while I sat in their comfortable waiting area with a TV. My mom's Audi was having problems with the radio, navigation, and phone connection. The Audi dealership said it would cost $4K to fix the J794 module (after they took three days to diagnose the problem). I called around and got routed to Short Circuit. Mark and Steve are responsive, answered my many questions, and pleasant to work with. They were able to fix the module for much less. I did have to take it back to Audi to re-program the module to get the nav to work. The total cost was way less than what I would have paid at the dealer. My car is a 2004 Acura TL 6MT with Navigation Package. The item that needed repair was the DVD Player in my trunk. It's for my navigation system. Went inside Acura Dealership and asked them for Alpine's address and info to send my DVD player in for repair. They told me that they send all their headunits and navigation related units to this place. I thought to myself, "Hm...if a dealership uses this place, they must do equally good work." So yeah, I bolted on over there and introduced myself and my situation and took on their free estimates. Within days later, I got a phone call and I was in a meeting so I left it to voicemail. I was in the area so I figured I stop by in person instead of returning the call. Mark listed what was needed to be done and the price. It took me a while to process how much I would be spending and eventually we came to an agreement and I gave him the green light to go ahead and repair the unit. I've taken it elsewhere before and I didn't trust that place. This place, I do and it was a bit more but I'm willing to pay that exact extra that Mark quoted me for because I felt comfortable with them. Because I felt so good about the place and they were easy to talk to, I decided to pay them in cash. Credit cards do charge a percentage fee. It sucks. So I figured...here's cash. Help out the local businesses. So yes, Thank you for a wonderful experience. It works well. I love it. The staff there are wonderful easy going people. Great experience with Short Circuit. The Monsoon stereo in my 03 Pontiac was on the way out. Tried a replacement but these are coded to the specific car and even a gm dealer couldn't get it to work. Sent the original to Short Corcuit and after getting the parts it needed had it back and working better than new. Honest, prompt, friendly service! My 2011 Prius' touch screen was unusable, frozen with a map on screen. No working nav or radio, bright screen on all the time - not great for night driving. Mark was super responsive, the work was done faster than they initially estimated it would take, there's a 1 year warranty on my now-perfect screen, and the total for everything (parts and labor) was less than 1/3 the price my shady Toyota dealership quoted just for the part. I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L Minivan. The back up camera and navigation stopped working. At first, both were flickering and then they stopped working and went to a black screen. I went to a few different audio stores to see if they could fix it but was unsuccessful. Then i found a video online that led me to Short Circuit. I called them, they instructed me to fill out the form and send my navi out to them for repair. I spoke to a couple different people there. They are very friendly and professional. They called me after they received and tested my Navi, to inform me of the repair cost. After they received my approval, they shipped it to me. After consulting with my car dealer (Acura) in regard to my CD deck not playing discs, they put me in touch with Short Circuit. I decided to email them and they called me back to discuss my options. Since I own a high-end Acura, I was under the assumption that since the audio system and navi were as part of one unit, this was likely going to be a very expensive repair from the dealer. After all, I was quoted anywhere from $1500-$2000 to replace the OEM head unit in my vehicle just to fix the CD player! I am glad I gave Short Circuit a try... They ordered a new deck for my vehicle, which took a little over a month to arrive from overseas. Nevertheless, the wait was WELL worth it. The replacement unit is exactly the same as the old one. They had my old one removed, and the new one installed IMMACULATELY. In fact, I am hard pressed to tell that the unit was even replaced to begin with, as it functions just like the original, just like nothing happened. The best part was the cost, which was well under what the dealer would have charged me. These guys were also very thorough and really know what they're doing. I am now convinced that Short Circuit is THE place to go if you have any problems with car audio systems, or OEM decks. Given the high cost and complexity of these units, it takes special know-how to get them into the best shape. For this reason, this will be the only place I will consider for my future repair needs. read more

My CD changer in my car failed, and since there is not too much good programming left of the airwaves. Am not one of the ipod generation so I like to listen to my tunes on custom polycarbonate CDs. Called Jim Lee at All Pro Audio and he suggested calling Short Circuit first. Right off the bat there was some communication problems if I needed to take the unit out of the car or have them troubleshoot it in the car. Once that was straightened out and took the unit out of my car and went on an odyssey trying to find their place. It is in an lite industrial area and drove past their place two or three times before I could find it. Once I got there they took good care of me and called me the next week to let me know they fixed my CD changer. We did a quick and dirty test in front of their shop with my car and I was very satisfied with their work and price they charged. They had my CDs sealed in a nice little baggy so they would not get lost or scratched. I really liked that! If you have CD changer problems on an aftermarket or factory car unit I would definitely see these guys.
