Love that places like this still exist. The service was great. There was so much food and drink to choose from. We got hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and fried mushrooms. All very good while we ate inside our car. We will definitely be back!

Old school carhop since 1955 with good tasty things to eat and many desserts on other side of menu. I had the bbq sloppy teddy with onion rings & root beer and it was good

Retro-style drive-in with car hops. Definitely try: 10 piece chicken wings (surprisingly amazing; make sure you ask for a cup of ranch with it) Coney dog Sloppy Teddy sandwich (basically a huge sloppy joe) Homemade root beer Onion rings

The hot dog was fresh, the French fries were good, the historic root beer stand was neat. The service was poor and the car hop didn't bring our change back until I asked about it...

We discovered this place while looking up restaurants on Google. My mom and I try to keep an eye out for different places that aren't the usual like Wendy's or Taco Bell so we were very excited when we found Short's Root Beer Stand. When we got here a very nice kid came up and gave us menus, and was very nice and explained what potato logs were (think like potato wedges, but they're a lot bigger, better, well seasoned, and tastier). Honestly when I first saw them I didnt think I would like them because I'm a pretty picky eater, but they're absolutely delicious! A really nice lady brought out our food. We got a chili dog, the sloppy teddy, potato logs, and supreme potato logs. The staff are all really nice and friendly and the food is amazing. I really liked the sloppy teddy, it's a scrumptious take on a sloppy joe. Mom enjoyed her potatoes and chili dog. We'll definitely be back with more money next time so we can try even more stuff, there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try that we'll definitely have to come back a lot! Thanks for the wonderful experience :D

Good onion rings, coleslaw, and service. The hotdogs could be better quality. An all beef or Hebrew National would be better.

To have her join our table and tell us all about her passion, process, and story of opening shop made me realize what a special find this place was. Authentic, classic Chicago dishes, bursting with flavor, and exceeding all expectations. She even gave us samples as she was talking us through the menu. We ordered a chili dog (10/10), pizza puff (10/10 and with classic Italian marinara), fries with cheese sauce (10/10 with a delicious homemade cheese), and the Chicago dog (10/10 and tasted just like one from the Windy City). Oh and also the Andes mint chocolate brownie!! It was so delicious that it got eaten before the photo! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu! Definitely give them a try!

She makes everything herself and sources her ingredients from Chicago. If you are looking for authentic Chicago food, this is the place! Today, I ordered the Italian Beef with giardinera peppers, baptized. I personally love my sandwich soaked in the au jus. The beef is tender and thinly sliced, and perfectly seasoned. The au just is freaking amazingly delicious. I highly recommend coming here for all of your Chicago food cravings.

Let's talk about this menu--because it is bonkers in the best way possible. Ever had a Beany-Weany Dog with baked beans on top? What about a Reuben Dog or a Mac & Cheese Dog? They pile these doggies high with sauerkraut, taco sauce, and anything else that shouldn't logically work on a hot dog but absolutely does. And the prices? $2.50 for most of these beauties. That's not just a deal--it's practically an act of public service. I went simple with a German Dog (mustard & sauerkraut), but trust me, there's a mad scientist in the back making sure every option is perfectly weird and wonderful. The buns are soft, the dogs have that perfect snap, and the toppings are generous without being a sloppy mess. The whole experience feels like you've stepped into a local legend that no one outside Jackson seems to know about--but they should. The staff is no-nonsense but friendly, the drive-thru has a personality of its own (seriously, read the posted notes), and you'll leave full, happy, and slightly confused about how you just ate gourmet hot dogs for pocket change. Would I come back? I need to come back. The West Virginian Dog is calling my name.
