If your looking for the best coney you have ever had in your life at a great price, look no further than Junkyard Dog. I will not go anywhere else in Jackson for a coney. They have perfected the sauce. It is not the runny kind of chili sauce that should be in a soup. It is the hamburger coney sauce and all the dogs are 100% beef. I have told at least 15 people to eat here this week and I have asked my company to look into catering for our business. I wish I could give more stars. read more

Came in at an off time to find JYD nearly empty, which normally I don't like to see, but as I said: It was an off time after what may have been a lunch rush. The coney's were good - more like sloppy Joe's meat than the standard Jackson or Detroit sauce, but still pretty good! I also tried a standard dog with sauerkraut and mustard. Something I noticed when served, is that the type of hot dog seemed specially tailored to the type of meal, be it sausage, or a larger hot dog. My coney dog had a different sausage than my dog with kraut. Although is proved to cost a little more, I thought it was a great idea. My kraut dog's sauerkraut was seared on the top, which proved to be a super delicious touch that I've never experienced before. The fried and onion rings were also really good. Sporting a full bar, I could see this being an awesome place to visit late on the weekends. If you're downtown and craving a little liquid lunch and dogs, give JYD a try! read more

Excellent food and service! All beef hotdogs that taste delicious. They have a very nice location and restaurant right downtown Jackson and it's decorated very nice on the inside, very retro. Everybody is so nice and friendly there. They had just regular hotdogs, all different kinds of stuff you can have on your dogs, Coney dogs, and specialty dogs. Good food and fantastic staff. I was stranded in the area waiting for my car to get fixed and stopped in this joint because it was recommended to me at the bus station, and the Shwarma place closes too early. Well the Shwarma place was open, but the two folks in line were taking forever to make a decision and I wasn't going to be able to sit and eat there anyway, so I walked across the street to Junkyard Dog where a guy came in from Tennessee to order their half-pound dog because he cannot get it anywhere else, and wanted them to mail him some down in TN But I got a simple hot dog and it was delicious. I only ordered one because I eat less than 2000 calories a day. It was delicious. I even got a ride to my car from one of their customers because they heard I was stranded. I prefer Jackson coney and Virginia but if you're trying to impress the suits you'll wanna go here. It's an upscale hotdog joint and the dogs are really good. The fries are excellent. Top chips. The service is good and the music reminds me of a piano bar or Billy Joel type classic rock and folk stuff. For the older crowd like me or for the younger crowd who like retro. Great first impression of the restaurant and menu. They have a great mix of items than can appeal to all types of appetites. The jalapeño ranch is a very nice touch. I did make the suggestions to the waitress about having a sampler of the different hotdogs. Thought they could make the play on the dog theme by calling it a "Litter". The hotdogs are a little bigger than the normal hotdog so the regular customer will likely be full after a couple of hotdogs. First visit and everything we tried was OK. Pretzel dog with nacho cheese and bacon bits was good. The coleslaw was made with pineapple tidbits - different but delicious. My hubby got the Coney and liked it. Also, got a Cobb slider and the burger was good. The kid's menu has 3 choices: hot dog, sliders, chicken tenders and the choice of fries or Mac n Cheese, soft drink included. Don't expect to find any healthy choices here though. Only thing close to a salad is the coleslaw. Go hungry not looking for anything light and with an open mind for hot dog toppings...one hot dog choice comes with peanut butter and pickles on top. We don't get to Jackson very often and when we do we normally just hit one of the bigger chain restaurants. Tonight we decided to go downtown and see what we could find. We found ourselves by the Junk Yard dog so we decided to go in. Well we went in and the very nice waitress came over and explained how limited our meal options would be as the grill was shut down and cleaned. We then realized OMG we walked in literally 5 minutes before closing!!!! We didn't want to be THOSE people. The waitress explained it was no problem we were more than welcome. She then came back and said she checked in the kitchen and they said they would whip us up any of the dogs on the menu!!! The food came out and was great, not one time did they make us feel rushed. One of the owners came to our table to check on us and she was very pleasant. The pricing was very reasonable also. As we left I let them know we again apologized for keeping them late but ALL of them said it was no problem and invited us back!!! We have eaten here two times in a week and really like the food and atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They even went to the restaurant down the street to get a chair so that we had room for a baby and toddler, since they only had one high chair. So far everyone we have gone with has liked the food with the pretzel dog and the mac sliders being at the top. You can add subtract anything you want to, to a hotdog. My husband and I came for lunch Saturday Afternoon. He got the Chicago Dog & Firehouse Dog, he loved both but he said hands down the Firehouse Dog was the best. For a town that throws around hot dogs like a drunken rocky horror fan, Jackson can be pretty hit or miss. Not bad dogs but seem to rely a bit on gimmick over ingredients. All in all, not bad hot dogs. However, they really need to work on their service. We we went twice and both times (two different servers) the bill was wrong or changed after money handed over. As someone else pointed out, check you bill. If Junkyard can pay a bit more attention to the individual ingredients and streamline their service to avoid check mishaps, it may become a welcome addition to the growing downtown food hodgepodge. read more

Came with family to check out the new dog place in Jackson. There were only a couple of booths with patrons in them. Trying to find a clean table was a bit of a chore. Walked by 5 before finding one. Our server was polite, friendly, and somewhat engaging. Once we got our food it was difficult waving her down for refills, more napkins, or even another drink. We ordered the cheese curds. They lacked flavor. The jalapeño ranch they serve with them is laughable. There isn't a hint of spice/heat. I ordered the Fire House Dog and everything except the hot dog itself was cold. It looked like something I could make myself at home. I was disappointed in the temperature as well as the lack of flavors. I could detect the buffalo sauce, blue cheese, and jalapeños but never together. My girlfriend had the German dog. She had the same disappointments. All cold and all she could taste was the sauerkraut. I couldn't tell you what the other 2 in our group had ordered. I'm glad new places are opening in Jackson, but I'm skipping this one in the future. read more
