This is our favorite breakfast spot in Orange County. Generous portions at a great price, and quality is always consistent in both their food and service. Clearly a ton of locals return her and have been coming back for years. My boyfriend and I always look forward to starting our day here anytime we have a free morning on the weekends. They also have a covered outdoor area. We've brought our small dog there without any issues. Our faves are their French toast, bacon breakfast dish, and chocolate chip pancakes. Probably closer to a 4.5/5. I came here for breakfast and found that their breakfast menu was pretty decent. They had burritos, omelette, etc. they also do lunch which is nice! Might have to check out their lunch menu sometime. I ended up ordering a bacon breakfast burrito and man was it filling! Inside, it had a lot of bacon, eggs, hash browns, and cheese. Something about it tasted really good. It had a really good flavor! I didn't try their salsa so I can't say whether it was good or not but I added Tapatio which is my go-to hot sauce. Pricing is decent. Around $8 for the burrito which seems fair. Why a 4.5/5 instead of a 5? The burrito was a little salty. I know, I know. I ordered bacon. But I think they added extra salt on it other than the saltiness that's you already get from the bacon. Not bad but would have liked it a little less salty. Also, I wish they had homemade hot sauce. I like the bottled stuff that you find in supermarkets but something homemade and spicier than what they had available would have elevated this burrito! Overall, a good experience and good food. A really cool breakfast place that also serves burgers and sandwiches so it's like a brunch and diner in one. You order at the front of the restaurant and then they'll bring your order to your table. We came here on two separate occasions. When we went the first time at around 9:20am and right after we got a table, it got super packed. If you want to beat the brunch crowd on the weekend, come before 9:30am-10am or else you'll be fighting for a table and might have to wait a while until a party leaves. The first time I got the breakfast burrito. Inside it are hash browns, eggs, and cheese and they give a side of salsa. It was pretty good but then again with not many ingredients it's really difficult to mess it up. The second time I ordered the club sandwich and I thought it was okay. I read a lot of reviews that mentioned the shakes so my girlfriend decided to try it out and I didn't think it was amazing. It just tasted like semi-melted regular ice cream. When we were finished eating a server came by our table and asked if we could let her know when we were leaving so she could reserve the table for two elderly women who just ordered their food. This place is a local diner right by CSUF. If you hit this place around 10am on a Saturday or Sunday it will be packed. I went here both times in the same weekend - once for breakfast and once for lunch. The first time I barely missed the crowd and the second I was in a sea of people. I guess that speaks to how popular this place is. One of my favorite things about this place is the service. They're attentive but not in a hovering kind of way. On my second trip, we were about to leave and one of the servers asked us to hold the table for a minute while she went and helped two elderly women to our table because they had been waiting and the place was packed. That to be is A+ service. Onto the food, I got the chocolate chip pancakes breakfast combo the first time and the mushroom swiss burger with a lettuce wrap the second time. The chocolate chip pancakes weren't fluffy the way I wanted it it but it was still good. The combo was your typical eggs, sausage, and bacon. The burger was delicious! I'm pretty picky about the kind of lettuce my burger is wrapped in and this place does it perfectly. I'm not a fan of the iceberg that in n out uses. I'm a green leaf lettuce kind of person. I also got the vanilla shake which was meh in my opinion. Outstanding Ortega burger. My husband had the pastrami burger and we shared the zucchini. I really liked the taste of the batter on the zucchini. Usually I wind up pulling off the batter because it either doesn't stay on or tasted bad. This batter stayed on and tasted great. Nothing special in terms of the menu offerings, just classic offerings. It's a popular breakfast spot for the local college student. Ive been coming here for a handful of years and they are pretty consistent and they hit the spot. I just wished they spiced things up a bit. Add a few more offerings and remodeled the place a bit. Service is normally very fast and friendly. Cool place with a huge menu of burgers and breakfast. The mushrooom swiss burger was well packed with shrooms and the thick patty and bread was a little high to bite into but packed nicely with shredded lettuce and tomatoes so it didn't fall apart but the burger was just a little underseasoned and the side of onion rings were breaded in cornmeal so not what I was expecting. i come to shorty'z all the time and i've never had a bad experience! the food is always really good and the employees are always very kind and attentive. the fried zucchini is 10/10!! so crispy and warm but not dry. I usually get the egg sandwich with bacon on a bagel and it's so yummy!! today (7/23) there was a bit of a mix up and we waited a long time for our order when the manager (not sure of his name) let us know there was a mix up and he refunded our order and got it to us asap. we weren't upset and insisted we didn't need a refund but it was very kind of them to do it anyways. we love the nice & fun atmosphere and the waitstaff is always great. read more
