I've been to Mr. D's Diner a few times now and can't believe I'm only reviewing it now. Shame on me. As someone who was spoiled by truly great chicken fried steak back when I lived in the Pacific Northwest, I'll admit I'm picky. Down here in this part of OC, there aren't many spots that even come close. Mr. D's? Not quite PNW-level--but honestly, pretty darn acceptable (and that says a lot lol). Their chicken fried steak comes out generous: well-battered, nicely fried, served with country potatoes and veggies. I do miss a good old biscuit and chunky, meaty gravy, but their version--while smoother and less chunky--is still tasty and satisfying.( but seriously, you could add more lol) We had an early family dinner here and everything hit the spot. I had the chicken fried steak, my fiancé ordered the chilaquiles, and the kids went classic with a BLT and a hamburger, both with fries. No complaints all around. Service is friendly and efficient, the restaurant is clean, bright, and very well kept. And the décor? Full-on 1950s diner vibes--done right. Not kitschy, not cheap-looking, just straight-up retro cool. Kudos to the Mr. D's team for committing to the theme. I didn't try the pies yet (they're staring at you from the display case), but they looked tempting enough that I know I'll be back. Solid diner, generous portions, good vibes. Definitely worth a stop.

Love me some diner style breakfast fare. Breakfast is breakfast, right? Eggs, bacon, potatoes in some form (hash browns or home fries), toast, etc. Yes, breakfast is a staple but at a good diner you get to add the atmosphere and decor and that can make all the difference. Mr D's has the diner magic going on. Good service, good food, good ambiance. Hey, that meets all the requirements!

Cute place with a 50's vibe. Plenty of seating. Food was average good. Not spectacular, but not lacking. Although tater tots are always a plus. Gravy was just a tad off for my taste, but not bad. Service was great!

The bar area was busy for a Tuesday night. They have a full bar, but this is definitely not a high end craft cocktail place so go in with that mindset and it's fine. I had the Chicken Gyro which was actually really good. Recommend the tzatziki sauce on the side. This also comes with fries, side salad or tots. They aren't pictured because my fries came out separately in a fresh basket which was very tasty. The vibe in here is definitely of an old school diner, but it's cute, clean and a good place for gathering. Angela the bartender is always super nice too and if you don't like your cocktail, she is happy to remake it for you!

Food, ambiance and customer service is always so on point. I had the breakfast plater and my friend had the biscuits and gravy. Lots of food and great for sharing. I would suggest this as a family friendly restaurant with accommodations for small business accommodations as well. Plenty of booths and tables. I see the parking lot has handicap excisability but still has ramp to door. So that's a plus, and again a nice place to visit its unique decor. A must try and sit with Marilyn Monroe while you wait to be seated.

We came to eat at Mr. D's around noon. One nice thing is they serve breakfast all day. I ordered an omelette and had them remove one item and substitute another. The omelette came with potatoes and also an option of substituting a pancake for toast, which I did. On a positive note the pancake was very good. Nice and fluffy. On a negative note I did not think the omelette was anything special. Overall, I was unimpressed with the omelette and have had much better omelettes at other locations. The waitress was very nice and the service was good.

Had Sunday morning breakfast here and let me just say don't get the coffee. It was so weak, I could finish the cup in like 2 sips, it was as if I was drinking water, for a diner I would expect better. The waitress who took my order was nice and the theme inside the place was actually really cool! I had high hopes for the place. I ordered the country breakfast and that was actually okay. I wasn't a fan of the eggs but the hashbrowns and biscuit and gravy with the sausage patty on it was good. It's so close to my home , I wish I had liked it more but unfortunately it's not going to be one of my frequently visited places.

I've wanted to try this place for a long time. My name starts with a D, so it felt fitting. From the outside it's big, bold, flashy--almost like Good Burger meets a 1950s roadside diner. Walking in, it fully commits to the theme. Marilyn Monroe front and center, Elvis nearby, a Christmas tree this time of year, even a Cadillac front-end turned into a table. It's decked out, full-on retro, very Pulp Fiction energy. Visually, they nailed it. The food, unfortunately, didn't live up to the setting. It was fine, but nothing memorable. A bit over-salted and over-seasoned, especially the hash browns. I ordered what I think was the Euro or California omelet--huge portion, but oddly light on egg. That was confusing. The coffee situation was also disappointing. Pre-packaged half-and-half containers feel wrong in a diner. When you think diner coffee, you think real cream, not tiny plastic pods. That kind of thing just screams chain behavior. Service was great, friendly and attentive, though it was slow--rainy day, understandable. The interior is easily the highlight. The ingredients, however, feel cheap in places. Corn syrup ketchup on the counter doesn't exactly match the care put into the decor. You don't have to be artisanal, but you also don't have to cut corners like that. Overall, it's a fun place to look at and experience once. The atmosphere does a lot of heavy lifting. I just wish the food and details matched the effort put into the theme.

This place has really gone downhill... Service is SLOW, 15mins just to place an order, coupled with tiny 2 person booths that they try to stuff 4 people into, all for Denny's level food. The menu is totally different now but not in a good way. Anyhow not sure if we will be coming back, the grandkids used to love this place.

In both cases they were unable to prepare the food well. Last week I had eggs Benedict and the egg yolks were solid and The English muffin was not really toasted and was cold. I sent the Benedict back but Asked to keep the rest of the food because I was hungry. The girl ignored my Request, Took my entire plate and did not return with the other food on it. I literally waited 10 minutes for them to redo the eggs while my partner finished his breakfast and I had nothing to eat. The Hollandaise sauce was Very Good, but ham on the Benedict was incredibly thin. I've had many eggs Benedict and this was unusual to offer A slice of ham comparable to a thin deli slice. My partner's omelette Was quite Brown but had good veggies in it. His hashbrowns were barely cooked. Today We both ordered a veggie omelette with chicken in my partner's. I made it very clear that my veggie omelette should not be Brown (= overcooked) . The girl read Back our order and she wrote My request very clearly. What arrived at our table was quite a shock! My omelette was definitely Brown and my partner's omelette was dark Brown. My brown omelette had chicken (his order) and his omelette was actually my order and dark brown! I've never seen an omelette served that was that overcooked! How could they possibly ignore the instructions and mixed them up? Add to this that his toast was burnt. Really? You can't prepare Toast properly? When I brought it to their attention one of the girls she said I could see how you might think that as I showed her the burnt toast. She said we have already put everything away in the kitchen and so I don't know that we can do anything about it. We said it would be fine if it's an English muffin but, something that's not burnt. She disappeared into the kitchen for quite a while. Eventually when she resurfaced she brought the unevenly toasted bread, (But not burnt) and proceeded to tell us the following: " If you would get here earlier (We arrived 40 min before closing) we could serve you better" ( I later realized Those must be words from the owner). So if I arrive earlier my food wont be overcooked?Or if I arrive earlier they Have time to correct their mistakes? I knew the kitchen closes at 1:40. Waiting at the counter To ask about soup, I stood for 5 + minutes watching 5 employees move about. Finally I was able to ask and waited another minute or so while she went to go to the Back to ask. Now in line to order the man before me was trying to order (before 1:40) a vegan omelette. The girl said it was too late. He explained he had driven all the way from Riverside and it was still within the timeframe to order. She went back into the kitchen and a woman came out. (the owner? ) . The woman proceeded to chastise the young man for coming in late and trying to order a vegan omelette. She told him he'd done this before and he should get here earlier. He explained that he had not actually ordered but had tried. She said several times that she would make an exception this time but it can't happen again. And she continued to chastise him. Who treats their customers like this? .I literally watched the minutes tick by, wondering if I'd make it before the cutoff. More people entered. . Ah oh, do they know about the cutoff in 1 minute?? The girl behind the counter announced that no more orders would be taken after 1:45. Aw, they were being generous by allowing five more minutes to order. But there's no way these people could get their order in within the next five minutes. Will they say, too late, After they've been waiting in Line? Why not say instead, our kitchen is closing but we will be happy to take your orders. And why not hang a sign on the door that says the kitchen is closed at 1:40 But still accommodate diners's needs? The omelette tasted good but the experience was so negative, Such unkindness, Completely lacking in hospitality.
