- Only one way in and out of the park. -- Man, no wonder a long slow line of vehicles formed out the entrance that Sun afternoon. Think I waited 20-30min before finally entering the park. . $5/car. - Crowded parking. Had to seek the overflow parking, - The overflow parking in the picnic area is about a 2min walk to the overlook. + but at least the overflow parking is shaded; - The main parking closer to the vista isn't. - Limited restrooms. . Ah, the kayakers you see down there stay far from the falls cuz the turbulence can continuously flip the boat and the mist can make it hard to breathe and see. . Shoshone Falls is the Niagara of the West located in Idaho! We drove from Salt Lake City, Utah while vacationing this past summer. There is a small fee of $5 to enter. The park is beautiful, bathrooms are clean, educational signs and its well taken care of. Honestly it wasn't Niagara falls on this particular day we went. I was honestly disappointed. I gave it 4* because its a very nice park for all to enjoy. Maybe on a rainy day the falls will put on a show. Tip: drive around park, Dierkes beautiful lake is in this park. The Shoshone Falls - aka "The Niagara of the West" where the Snake River Canyon dramatically weaves to the left of the falls. We walked the trails along the canyon rim. The rim was interesting but I expected the falls to be more spectacular. There was parking at the top entrance & also at the bottom near the falls. The road down to the main viewpoint is narrow & windy. There are bathrooms near the viewpoint with port-a-pottys. I understand spring is the best time to see the falls because later on the snowmelt is diverted for irrigation. There is a lot of history here. The falls mark the upper limit of fish migration and were an important place for the Native Americans. Explorers passed through as they made their way to the Oregon Trail. Evil Knievel even tried to jump the river nearby we can see the old jump wire. read more

This stop is absolutely worth the $5 per car fee. The road down into the canyon is twisty. A small RV can do it, but I wouldn't haul a trailer down. Tight curves. People were directing traffic to park straight ahead but we turned left toward the picnic area. Drive almost to the trailhead- There are several parking spots in the dirt there, some in shade. Bring a picnic. There are a few tables in the sun. Most people found shady spots on the ground under trees. Walk toward the river for views of these beautiful waterfalls. There are several viewing platforms. Three are here - one is wheelchair accessible. Maybe two, but it's a steep incline. A small snack shack is here and behind that is some information boards. If you walk up the dirt trails past these info kiosks you will access another, higher, viewing platform. Climb higher to connect with the main trail and another viewing platform. Or just begin at the trail head and miss all the crowds below. Parking seems to be 'where ever you dare'. Did not look for restrooms so unsure about those. Grassy areas over look the falls where you can chill a while and enjoy the sounds. Trailhead is at the end of the road past the picnic area. read more

So, I am the genius this park on Labor Day weekend during a heatwave, but I still feel like I am giving it some grace. Despite the crowds and the overwhelming, warm weather, I think my biggest disappointment with our visit was the staff. We waited over 40 minutes in a line of cars just to get into the park and the gentleman taking the cash at the front was honestly kind of a creep to me. The "security" woman on the cart driving around also seemed to be in way over her head and the staff at the snack shack consisted of a couple of annoyed teenagers. But outside of my interactions with the staff, I had a fairly enjoyable time. I highly recommend visiting this park now that it's after Labor Day and they will no longer be charging an entrance fee. You can get a decent view of the falls and learn a little bit about the history of the area. You can also enjoy a picnic or a bike ride. Just be careful as I did sit in dog feces and have to go back to the car and change my clothes! Outside of the falls view, there's really nothing too special about this park, but it's definitely a nice stop if you're in the area. read more

Unfortunately this time of year means that there was virtually no flow over the falls. Still a beautiful site though. Parking is easy with loads of spots on the falls level. Very cool waterfall in Idaho. I drove here from SLC so it was a treck but worth it! Small fee to enter the area. Once inside there is a lot of parking and some trails you can walk. There's also clean restrooms and a small gift shop area with snacks and souvenirs. I visited in August, on a weekday, so there was no line to enter. read more

There isn't much more to be said about Shoshone Falls that hasn't already been said in other reviews. But I want to reiterate that the "Niagara of the West" is absolutely worth the effort! While not quite as stunning as Niagara Falls itself, this park offers tremendous and varied views of the magnificent Shoshone Falls, especially when walking west along a dirt path where very few tourists venture. But the views of the valley extending to the west are just as incredible as the falls themselves, a terrain that truly distinguishes itself from the more voluminous Niagara Falls. There is a fee to enter the park, and you'll typically wait in a long line of cars. But your effort will be rewarded and well worth it. There are ample parking spots unless you drive as close to the falls as possible where most spots will be taken. But please make the effort to see this natural phenomenon in your lifetime! read more

People may say Shoshone Falls is the star highlight when visiting Twin Falls, Idaho, but I found it to be just okay. In fact, Shoshone Falls appears to have such a high reputation that it's even nicknamed..."The Niagara of the West". No way. I'll disagree with that. It doesn't come close to being in the same category as the grand wonder...Niagara Falls. So...my expectations for visiting were SKY HIGH, and the experience was disappointing. I didn't have a bad time, but the bar was raised so high in my head and Shoshone Falls didn't nearly live up to what I was anticipating. Let me explain why... First off, the best attraction around Twin Falls, ID is definitely...Perrine Coulee Falls. I was blown away by the 200 foot straight plunge splashing down in front of my eyes. And with that, you could also walk underneath Perrine Coulee Falls. It's such a hands on and playful waterfall. Now here at Shoshone Falls, you take a flight of stairs down to an overlook platform with Shoshone Falls set in the distance. It's nothing special. And the falls are pretty far away. They're nowhere near you. Selfie photos are difficult. You can zoom in with your phone and camera and get some decent highlights, but other than standing at the lookout, there's nothing rewarding about being here. And that was sobering, so to speak. I tried to see what else was offered while here at the falls, but nothing, really. I noticed another overlook spot just along a short pathway but it was closed for maintenance. It didn't matter. It wouldn't have made Shoshone Falls any closer to viewing than from the first featured observation point that everyone stands on. And I don't mean to be a downer that thinks magical moments must happen at every corner I turn, I'd just relay that you should temper expectations for visiting. Shoshone Falls is no "Niagara of the West". It's a quick experience. You park in the lot, stroll over to the overlook, take pictures and videos, return to your car and go about your next activity. Anyhow, if you've read this far, lol, here are extra details... - Shoshone Falls is a 212 foot tall and 900 foot wide waterfall. - $5 entrance fee. - I read that it could get pretty busy. I arrived at 8am in early August and there was practically nobody here. - Shoshone Falls splashes down into the Snake River that seems to be at the bottom of every waterfall in Twin Falls. I believe you can take kayaks and boats down the Snake River to capture closer vantage points of Shoshone Falls from the bottom, which would probably be more fulfilling of an experience than standing at a vista point. - Shoshone Falls is also a park with playgrounds, hiking trails, picnic areas and a boat ramp. - The falls are located 6 miles away from downtown Twin Falls. You can get here using Google Maps. Cell phone reception works fine. - While in the general area of Twin Falls, you could also visit previously mentioned Perrine Coulee Falls (5 stars!), Perrine Memorial Bridge and Visitor Center (for watching epic base jumping!!!) Twin Falls Waterfall (not so good), Pillar Falls (if you don't mind a challenging hike), and a handful of other waterfalls located 45 minutes away in Thousand Springs, Idaho. Overall, okay, so Shoshone Falls wasn't majestic from my POV. And it didn't take long to stop on by, definitely less than 1 hour. And I just want to be transparent about coming here. It's a fine waterfall, but doesn't deserve to fit in the same category as other world class waterfalls. read more

I understand that going to a big attraction, it will get big crowds . The line to get in 4/27/24 1pm was about a half hour long. It was $5 to get in and they were not keeping track of the ratio of cars leaving the park to cars entering. This was stressful. Lots of honking , waiting and people ready to fight for a spot. People were parking in non designated spots and were getting tickets. After circling a couple times with no spots opening up my husband had us get out of the car, take some pictures and come back. I didn't spend much time here but the view was pretty. I thought going before summer would be less crowded..., nope. The lake at the next exit didn't have too many people there. It was pretty and easier to view and relax. read more

The Shoshone Falls - aka "The Niagara of the West" - are a must if you're visiting southern Idaho - the scenery is positively breathtaking and majestic! We visited in early March of 2023 and it was snowing on our first visit. Made it very fairy-take like - just incredible! Then the clouds broke and the sun came out on our second visit and the scenery changed completely!! I even managed to catch a rainbow at the base of the falls! Another unexpected treat is the Snake River Canyon dramatically weaving its way to the left of the falls! It's so much bigger than I expected wow! There are all sorts of birds flying around and marmots everywhere - such a lovely park. There are tons of smaller waterfalls trickling down all the rock-faces and in early March they were frozen! Really cool to see. Apparently Spring is the best time to see the falls but my understanding is you have to catch them before they divert the snowmelt waters for irrigation. I think we were still a tad early as it was snowy and cold. But it was still 100% worth it! There's so much history here - these falls mark the upper limit of fish migration and were an important place for the Native Americans here. Lots of explorers passed through as they made their way to the Oregon Trail. And Evil Knievel even tried to jump the river nearby and you can walk to the old jump wire haha! So many stories! The falls are near the town of Twin Falls which makes a great base - there's lots of hotels and shops and restaurants there. And the falls are less than 3 hours drive from Salt Lake City. There's tons of parking up at the top entrance and also lots more down at the bottom closer to the falls. The road down to the main viewpoint is narrow and windy and slick in the snow so be extra careful. There are bathrooms down by the viewpoint but they're closed in winter. They did have a port-a-potty up at the top entrance though. read more

Huge, gorgeous falls and a variety of viewpoints. You can choose to hike a bit, bring a picnic, or just walk from viewpoint to viewpoint and take in the beauty and power of this place. The parking is limited and messy- we parked away from the main area and had better luck, but it seemed like too many people were let in at the same time and a long line of cars formed. $5 entry is totally worth it though. read more

Hidden at the northeast corner of Twin Falls, ID. The falls are often referred to as the Niagara of the West. They are 212 feet tall and 900 feet wide, making them one of the largest natural waterfalls in the United States. Shoshone Falls are located on the Snake River as it cuts through the deep basalt canyon to the Columbia River. My visit was in late April as the snow pack was melting, giving them the greatest flow. In the summer months irrigation diversion can reduce the flow over the falls. Tourists have been visiting the Shoshone Falls since the mid-19th Century when travelers along the Oregon Trail would detour from the trail to visit the Falls. In 1932, Federick and Martha Adams donated the land to the City of Twin Falls with the stipulation that the land be maintained as a public park. The park also offers several kiosks with great pictures and notes on history of the area. Allow at least an hour to explore and take pictures. March 1 through September 30 the vehicle fee at Shoshone Falls Park is $5.00 per car. We parked free at the trailhead of the Snake River Canyon Rim Trail and hiked to the falls. I highly recommend this, as it offers various views of the river and falls. Shoshone Falls are open year round with the exceptions of temporary closures due to poor road conditions. I was on vacation in this state and a lot of places said this is must go to. I came and the line was very long. You pay and it's $5 very reasonable they take cash or card. The parking sucks it takes forever to find parking. They should not let so many people into the park at once. There's bathroom cans a snack bar . This waterfall has a few look out points and is easy to get to them. There was a lot of kids and elderly so easy to access. There's large grass and picnic areas . This park is dog friendly. Overall you get great pictures and it's something to do if you're passing by. Be very patient it might take a long time to find parking. read more

Somewhat reminiscent of my travel to Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada many years ago except on a smaller scale, with green water falls and less intensity. Wonderful news is at least waterfalls do not spray and splash over to spectators that are walking along the stairs and in the vicinity. We enjoyed scenic drive, sightseeing, exercising, reading about history, and meeting some friendly people along the way. Captured some scenery and family photos too. Admission is free. Bring an operable vehicle that can handle both narrow and wide road for entrance and exit. Paid $5 parking for entry. Parking lot is in short walking distance to Shoshone Falls. I am told that when it's at its peak, it's a thundering, incredible sight. And the falls is just really one small part of this park, though inarguably the most famous. We rolled up thinking that though it was late June, we weren't too far behind peak runoff, but after paying our $5 entrance fee and finding our way to the overlook, it was clear that the western drought is in full force. Oh, it's still mighty impressive and for $5 it was a lovely drive down into the Snake River canyon and to the little oasis of a park (run by the city) but I can just imagine the potential for roar this river has when it's really flowing. Late June 2021, and it was just a nice cascade. Beyond just the falls, we actually liked this little turnoff for the restrooms and picnic area. It was an early lunchtime for us before finishing the last leg of a multi-thousands of miles road trip, so it was great to breathe fresh air, and to sit in the shade on a picnic table and eat the cooler remnants from the last week and a half. A few cherries left from the farm in Washington, a bit of bread with huckleberry jam from Idaho, and the last morsels in our belly before a couple hundred miles to home. I have nothing but love and fond memories, even if the waterfall intensity was turned down. read more

This is the number one thing that you'll find to do in Twin Falls. Like a lot of waterfalls, this one dries up quite a bit in the fall. There wasn't much water when we were there. The canyon is still really pretty though. You have to pay to visit the park, but no one was collecting money when we were there. It's a very touristy place and was decently crowded near the viewpoint when we were there. The park nearby was empty though. I think it's worth a stop, but make sure to check out Perrine Coulee Falls too because I liked it more. read more

We came here for Shoshone Falls, but also to train our new puppy to travel. The timelines didn't coincide, as it was obvious that coming in October was not the best time to see the falls or park. The Falls, given the timing, were sort of weak, and the park, well - covidtime. That said, the puppy learned a bit, got a bit more used to travel, and we know now to come during the winter ice melt (springtime). read more

Wow! I am so glad on my trip back to Washington I took my time and spent some extra time in Twin Falls! I saw signs for Shoshone Falls but didn't know much about them and felt that an adventure was in order. Shoshone Falls is a state park and the entrance fee is $5. There is a nice, spacious parking area. A vendor that looks like they sell souvenirs and perhaps snacks as well. They were closing by the time I arrived and so I didn't pursue that. Also there is plenty of space of the park to run, play and have a picnic. The falls themselves are gorgeous and there is an overlook in which you can get an excellent view of the falls and some of the Snake River Canyon which I also recommend looking at. There are a couple of bridges going into Twin Falls where there are scenic pulls out and I definitely recommend taking advantage of those sights too. The overlook was great but I got a bit jittery on it due to the wind and heights which I am scared of. So I went off of it and still got some great pictures of the falls from different angles without getting nervous. Definitely a beautiful park and one that I highly recommend to check out! read more

Made ~20 mins stop off the hwy to Shoshone falls. Came on Saturday and there was about a 5 min wait to drive in the park, there's a $5 cover. You can see the falls from the viewpoint before entering (for free lol) or it's about a 5 min drive to the parking lot. You can stay on ground level or there's a flight of stairs down to a view point. The park has large green space where you can sit and picnic tables, restrooms and a concession stand. You can also drive up the hill to see the lake so a bit of a 2 for 1. Worth the stop! read more

Stopped by on our way to SLC from Boise. From the freeway, it's about 20 minutes. There is a $5 fee. When you go through the gate you can go to the right towards the lake or left forwards the falls. Very beautiful. Tons of parking and places to stop and have a picnic. The walking areas seem limited and on a busy day, I can see it hard to take pictures at the designated look out points. They have a little snack shack and bathrooms and the prices are very reasonable! We got some pickles and a fountain drink for less than $5. Overall, I would recommend stopping by! read more

Want to see Niagara Falls, but hate Canadians? Come here, the Niagara Falls of the West. At 212 ft high, it's higher than Niagara. Honestly, I think Shoshone is more stunning. I give it an A, eh. Congress never approved the proposal for a national park, but in 1913 most of the land was donated by the Adams family (dada-da-duh, snap snap) to the city of Twin Falls who owns and operated the park. The park charges $5 (Mar 30 - Sep 30) to park at the south bank of the Snake River, which includes restrooms, interpretive displays, an overlook, and a bonus trail that leads to Evel Knievel's 1974 attempt to jump the canyon. read more

Yes, go visit these falls! There is a long deep river gorge that you'll pass via a bridge miles before you arrive at the actual falls. Stop and see the Hansen Bridge if you can. The sheer size and depth of this river gorge is breathtaking. Once you make your way to the falls, be patient. We waited in a long line of cars to get into the parking lot. It's worth the wait. If you are traveling with an RV or xl vehicle beware that the roads are narrow, steep, and winding. They have limited RV parking. The falls are stunning and they have a small observation deck but you can see the falls from many vantage points. They also have a visitor's center but it was more of a retail stand. The prices were outrageous! Overall it's a great view and worth it to go see it in person. read more

Beautiful waterfall to take the family to. Its easy to get to and theres plenty of parking. There's no food around so eat before or pack for a picnic. There's several vantage points to choose from to look at the falls and you dont need to feel rushed for photo ops. Nearby is a camp ground with a swiming lake and playground.
