Upon arrival, we met with the finance manager, Christopher Robinson, to review options for her recently purchased vehicle. My cousin originally purchased a 2025 Nissan Armada from this dealership in September of that year. She drove approximately 10,000 miles and had two oil changes performed at the dealership during that period. After the second oil change, she noticed a loud metal-on-metal grinding noise. When she returned to the dealership, the mechanic was authorized to remove the oil pan and discovered metal shavings at the bottom. Ultimately, this indicated an internal engine failure. Since my cousin lives in Corpus Christi, TX, she took the vehicle to a dealership there for repairs, which took nearly a month. They replaced the engine. Upon returning to her local dealership, she noticed a ticking noise and reported it to the service department. They inspected the vehicle, told her it was normal, and advised her to continue driving. She then contacted Edwin to express her safety concerns while driving this vehicle. He advised her to return to the dealership so they could replace the vehicle without issues. Today, she drove three hours to Katy and spent nearly five hours at the dealership. She spoke with Christopher Robinson to explore options for exchanging the vehicle. Unfortunately, their only offer was to trade it in and purchase a more expensive vehicle, which would put her an additional $10,000 upside down financially. Christopher prepared paperwork for a 2026 model, offering a 96-month loan at an 8.04% interest rate, resulting in a monthly payment of $1,319. She agreed to these terms to obtain a reliable vehicle. However, upon reviewing her credit, Christopher stated that the banks would not approve the loan because her credit score was 695, whereas a minimum of 700 was required. At the time of her original purchase in September, her credit score was 780. The new financing options presented were a monthly payment of $1,598 at 10.83% interest for 84 months or $1,890 at 4.05% interest for 84 months -- both of which were unaffordable. We expressed our dissatisfaction with what appeared to be misleading information and the inconsistent efforts to help her. Christopher called Edwin to see if he could assist further; however, Edwin returned with excuses, claiming he had done everything possible. He also suggested a buy-back through Nissan but dismissed it, implying that if the engine was repaired, an engineer might refuse the buy-back, complicating the process. My cousin then asked Christopher to speak with Kevin, the General Manager, to discuss her situation directly. Kevin, who was nearby, refused to meet and advised making an appointment for Monday, stating that weekends are for sales and not dealing with customer issues. This response was disappointing and left her feeling dismissed and frustrated, especially after spending over $75,000 on a vehicle that experienced engine failure at just 10,000 miles and was still exhibiting issues. Further concerns were raised after reviewing online reviews of the dealership, which referenced potential fraudulent practices. During her initial purchase, they offered $28,000 for her trade-in but only provided $27,000, citing an error. Additionally, they refused to allow her to finance through her bank, insisting she use their financing instead. What a total waste of time taken off and driving 4 hours round trip, i spoke to Jason at Shottenkirk Nissan several times before i made the drive and i asked him several times many important questions about price, vehicle history, accurate mileage and everything was good until i showed up at 9:30 am like i said i would driving all the way from Victoria Texas and i get there the vehicle a 2024 Volkswagen Taos was not even washed, with a check engine light after Jason told me the car had only 21k miles and that they took it to Volkswagen to get it taken care of which was all lies and then they set this sheet down and now the price is now $2993.00 more if i want to buy it outright the sale price of $19794.00 is only if i finance and i said fine i will finance but then the manager told me i had to get it with a propack life time tint for $796 and Ceramic Paint Protection for $2195.00 keep in mind the prices for these two items were higher before i took the picture. They refused to sell it to me for $19794 cash or finance! I told my granddaughter before we drove up there that we might not come back with a vehicle, and the dealership proved me right unfortunately!! Made an appointment for 7am, thinking that it would be quick since i would be one of the first ones in. I am not really sure why they make appointments for 7am when no one shows up to open the doors until almost 7:15. They pull my car in, a 2024 Nissan Murano, to do the oil change and rotate tires. At almost 2 hours, I inquire about how long it takes to perform this service. I was informed that it takes about an hour and a half, and then followed that with We aren't a quick oil change place. So the hold up was that they said they sent me an estimate of what needed to be done to my car and that I had not responded. There was no estimate sent, and when I did see the estimate, I had to laugh. It was for $767.70 to perform what he said Nissan recommends be done for a car of our mileage, which is 15,000 miles. So, I went to the owner's manual to verify that Nissan recommends these thing be done. And guess what, only the oil Change, Tire rotation (Both of which were already being done for free because the dealership provided 4 free oil changes and tire rotations) & The cabin Air Filter which they quoted $70 to do. Last oil change they tried to get me to pay $37 for an "Oil Additive" that Nissan recommends, Seems to me if it were that important, it would be part of a regular oil change. In short, if you go there for an oil change, be prepared, they will find something else to charge you for. As for me, I will be looking for another Nissan dealership to take my car to for service. BUYERS BEWARE!! Multiple ILLEGAL and DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES by Fernando, Sales Manager, and the Finance Manager Christopher Robinson. After multiple red flags including salesman and finance guy cussing each other out and about to fight upon her arrival, my best friend called me and kept me on the phone to discuss car pricing with Fernando and Chris. 1. Vehicle was advertised at $62,873 on their website, Autotrader, etc - no disclaimers/conditions. After confirming the advertised price and test driving vehicle, they start crunching numbers and Fernando says the price advertised is ONLY if you finance through them - if you use your bank the price was $3,900 more. Illegal per Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act! Picture attached showing "retail/MSRP" of $66,7888 minus "Finance Certificate" of $3915 (for financing through them) = "advertised/online" price of $62,873 2. He added on a $6000 extended warranty. $6000! But you didn't really know the price bc he only showed different tiers and the monthly payment. Asked for a breakdown of warranty cost, then found out it was $6000. Knowing they mark those up and that she paid $2500 for her last car's top tier warranty (same year same car same miles) I said no way take that off and buy warranty elsewhere. He was very annoyed and took warranty price down to $4800. Again, NO. He then said he would not sell her the car AT THE ADVERTISED PRICE WITHOUT the extended warranty bc "they needed to make money on the car and can't just give it away, but he would give it to her if he could" - again, an ILLEGAL tying practice and a violation of Texas dealer advertising rules. Texas Administrative Code §215.250 requires that a dealer must sell a vehicle to any retail buyer at its advertised price, without additional undisclosed conditions. Classic bait-and-switch scheme: attract the buyer with a low advertised price, refuse to sell the vehicle at that price, and attempt to force additional products or financing to inflate profit. Prohibited under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. And of course all the other slime ball sales guy moves you can think of - especially being that she was a woman and by herself. Everything he was giving her only showed her monthly payment - had to keep asking for sales sheet showing every cost. Every change or price adjustment he would make, he would mark up something else to try and go unnoticed. I have pictures of all of them. Also told her he didn't mark up her buy rate and the best she could qualify for was 8.5% & didn't want her to use a co-signer with perfect credit. Super super short version of the buying experience: Drove over an hour to purchase a specific vehicle that I saw online. She informed us the regular fee is $189 for a diagnostics test but since the car is under warranty it's covered. After three hours of sitting she came back and placed the keys behind a counter and told us we have to pay.. she explained that since the emblem on the front of the car was to retry much missing we had to pay.. that doesn't sound like any kind of decent warranty at all. My name is Elizabeth Gunter, and I brought my car into service on the 18th of September. I spoke to George, and he assured me that he will file the claim, and he will also get started with getting my truck fixed for me. I had to call several times until finally Saturday the 20th I received texts that they were starting service on my truck. I had to call several times throughout the week and George told me it was some serious service issues, and they were behind, which I understood, so I decided to just play the waiting game. I called him on the 26th after not hearing absolutely anything & he told me he tried to file a claim, and the MAX care people informed him that because, I had SLUGE in my engine it probably came from not staying on top of my oil changes. That is a LIE, and I was behind on this oil change, but only by 1-2k miles. My mom didn't believe him and called the Warranty people herself and they stated that nobody since I last called 2 months ago had called them about my CAR. A supervisor even pulled call logs and stated GEORGE had lied and nobody called them about the truck. I called George back, and he stated that the company is going to get him to break the engine down to fail to see what caused the issue, and if it is oil change related then I'll have to pay out of pocket. I asked George 9/26 to please call and make the claim and let's see what they say about it. I called him the morning of 9/27 and he told me that they told him I wasn't on top of my Oil changes, and they denied the claim. I already caught George in a LIE, so I decided to call the claims people after I got off the phone with GEORGE. The claims people couldn't speak to me because I am not the dealership, so they got me to a customer service rep. The customer service rep said per the notes George told them because I didn't stay on top of my oil changes, the engine had a lot of sludge. They said they never told him that because they wouldn't know the reason w/o an inspection. He ALSO stated that they didn't deny anything because based on what George said, they would need to bring an inspector out to see why the engine stopped working. I called the dealership back and someone kept picking up the phone and hanging up and this went on for about 20 minutes. It wasn't until I called from my 2nd number and asked for a service supervisor, that George called me back and left an email stating you were gone until Monday, but he was all of sudden waiting on my call back. The Roadside man just dropped my car off and he even said "Oh you didn't put oil in the car" so once AGAIN George is spreading a lie about me concerning oil changes. I think George didn't want to fix the car because I didn't purchase it from your dealership, I think he didn't want to file a claim & I think he told the Claims people that so I can be defeated and pick my car up & he can be done with it. I sent an email to the director Scott Ross and never heard anything back. So just beware of taking a car max car to this shop because George will not prioritize your car at all. He lied to the Car Max Care people and planted a seed of lies that I wasn't getting oil changes. That was not TRUE at all and I don't go to Nissan so how would he know?! Horrible experience, horrible service place, horrible supervisor George and I pray nobody goes through what I went through. This was a learning lesson for my kid. One she wish she could do all over. The dealership and Duane took advantage of a young adult looking to purchase her first used vehicle and refused to make the situation right by taking the vehicle back. They sold a overpriced used car, that in less than 2-months, has given nothing but trouble. The General Manager, Frank, who is the worst refused to take it back. The assistant General Manager was absolutely worthless. So, Zero stars given on this review aligns with the zero fucks given by their management team when attempting to make right what him and the team at his dealer did absolutely wrong. They knew they were selling a car in poor condition and took advantage of the situation. Anything for the sale But nothing to make it right. We started having problems with the car in the first 48-hours and in the Words from Frank, "To fix your car would mean that it would take money from my dealer." Well no shit! If you would have completed your due diligence before putting the car on your lot then you wouldn't have to spend money! Customer service was horrible. No one answers phone, text, or email from the top down that includes the service center. If you do go there, watch out for the flirts. I wasn't there for it, didn't ask for it nor did I entertain it. Or, maybe that is their version of customer service. I leave reviews on all vendors good and bad as I believe that folks should have awareness of the bad business (small and large) that do not deserve to be in business. It is rare that I would say this but this small business dealership doesn't deserve its spot in Katy or the city of Houston based on poor and deceptive sale practices. Do business with Shottenkirk Nissan Katy at your own risk. Supposedly, this dealership has a "required" add-on called "Shottenkirk Care". It added an additional cost of $3000 to the price of the car. I was not about to pay for that. Also, they added $899 for lifetime tint. Really? Also, there was a Dealer Reconditioning Fee of $1899. Unbelievable. Those additional fees increased the price of the vehicle to almost $6000. Actually, the cost of these add-ons would be more than $6000 once you add the interest being charged on the loan. Who do they think I am? I don't have the word fool written across my forehead. How are you going to "require" me to add those fees to the price of the vehicle? Why would anyone purchase a vehicle from this dealership that has all those so-called "required" fees added to the cost of the loan? It's just ridiculous. As my dad would say, "That don't even make good nonsense." That was just the Basic Package, there are two additional package levels that include these fees along with other stuff like nitrogen for your tires, and other ridiculous fees. I told them that my credit union has already approved me for financing and that I will just finance the car through my credit union and not be "required" to add those junk fees to the cost of the vehicle. The finance manager told me they don't like to take outside financing. Well, it's their loss, because I'm moving on. I've come to the conclusion the reason they don't like to take outside financing is that the credit union is not going to allow all those junk fees in the loan contract. If I were a salesperson, sales manager, finance manager, or any other employee that deals with customers during the sales process, there is no way that I could work at this dealership and take advantage of people in this way. It is just unethical. They know those overpriced junk fees add little to no value to the vehicle. This was the worst experience I have ever had trying to purchase a car. I'm done with this dealership and its unethical practices. I will be sure to let my friends and Sorors in Katy and Richmond (and of course Houston) know about my experience at Shottenkirk Nissan Katy. I will advise them to steer away from this car dealer. I really like that Nissan Altima at Shottenkirk Nissan Katy, however, I'm just going to buy a car elsewhere. I'm not going back out there. Please, if you are intent on purchasing a vehicle from this dealership, READ your documents. Do not sign anything without reading it first. Also, turn every document over to be sure there is nothing written on the back of it. Agree on the price of the vehicle first. Know what interest rate you are being charged. Ask to see the out-the-door price with everything itemized. Don't fall for the monthly payment trap. Don't pay unnecessary fees. Don't get so excited about purchasing a vehicle that you allow them to take advantage of you. You can always take your business somewhere else. So I don't usually post reviews but this one was unacceptable. I went to the dealership to apply for a salesman position on my lunch break from work, I was told by the receptionist that I could come back at 7 that night to speak with someone about my application. When I returned at 7 I told the receptionist (not the same one who gave me an application) that I wanted to speak with someone about my application. She proceeds to go get a police officer that promptly told me I had to leave the premises and return the next day. I am still bewildered as to why a POLICE OFFICER kicked me out of a dealer I was simply trying to get a position at. If this is how they treat prospective employees I would steer clear of working here or even buying a car from them. Terrible experience read more
