Bernard and the entire crew here are excellent! You wouldn't expect your dog to love the groomer, but she seems ecstatic whenever I bring my pup in! They do a fantastic job at everything - my dog leaves cuter, softer, and smelling so good.

A perfect cut!

This was the best experience I've had with a groomer in the City. From the first conversation on the phone I was sold on bringing in our toy poodle, whose hair has been butchered all around San Francisco in the last two years. Bernard (he owner) was knowledgeable, passionate, and reassuring, so we gave it a shot. I'm SO glad we did. The atmosphere is inviting and the crew welcomed us warmly. Time was take to thoroughly discuss the cut and expectations, which I appreciated. Our girl was matted, so I knew it would be more than just a bath and shape but she was done well within the timeframe discussed. We can always tell when our dog has been traumatized by a grooming, but she returned to us a bouncing, prancing happy little princess with the most adorable cut ever! The muzzle was a little long, though, so we gave her back and Bernard oversaw the redo until it was done to perfection. Wow... what an amazing experience. I walked out a loyal customer. I'm so grateful to have a place to take her now that I can count on for quality work and a great experience. I wholeheartedly endorse this business and hope they stay around for a long time. Thank you, Showtime Grooming!

Recovering

My dog almost got sepsis after his dematting. The groomer de-matted my dog so aggressively that they left MULTIPLE cuts all over his body which got infected and turned into abscesses. We had to put my dog on multiple rounds of antibiotics due to this groomers negligence. Have spent over $4,000 in vet visits since the incident (3 weeks). My dog is an extremely sweet and gentle boy and it breaks my heart knowing I almost lost him to reckless negligence. If you are dealing with pets, treat them with care--I cannot even begin to imagine how much pain he must have felt during his grooming to yield such severe cuts. Extremely disappointed and upset. The groomer didn't even feel any ounce of remorse towards their actions.

Ollie after a full groom.

Bernard and his team are amazing. My dog Ollie has a very nervous temperament at the groomer, however I know whenever I leave him at Showtime he's in good hands. He always looks great after an appointment. 10/10 recommend grooming and day care.

Following up my previous review - my dog now has infected tears on his skin because of how he was treated at showtime grooming. This place should be shut down. This is an abysmal establishment with horrific procedures. Take your dog here if you want to spend a week at the vet fixing what they've done.

So grateful for Bernard & crew at Showtime Grooming. Our 2yo, 70Lb Shepherd mix loves [slight exaggeration] going to the groomer, thanks to their great care and apparent love of pups! They do a great job with the bathe, deshedding, nails, and all else it entails - which can be a tall order for our dog, who sheds an impressive amount of hair each day! Bernard is also super cool and lovely to chat with when we catch him there. A great asset to our neighborhood.

We absolutely loved our experience here! We noticed our dog needing nail trimming badly and came across this place! The owner made our experience so great, he gave answers to all our questions promptly and nicely. This place is well organized and clean! My dog had so much fun at beach prior to the bath time here that I felt so bad my dog came to this place very sandy. The owner made sure my dog was taken good care of, did wellness check to make sure no history of medical condition as it looked little exhausted from the fun he had in the heat, and kept my dog well hydrated while it's stay. It even came back with a cute bow tie on! Strongly recommend this place 5/5. Price is very reasonable for the cute/clean place they have and for the service they offer! Thank you

5 stars every single time. Bernard makes it easy to schedule, does an incredible job, and treats my dog like his own. Rudy get's ridiculously excited when we walk into Showtime :). Bernard has groomed my dog a bunch of times, but today he groomed him for my wedding (dog ring bearer duties). I came in with like a million pictures and was annoyingly specific about what I wanted - and he turned out PERFECTLY. Showtime is a no-brainer. If I ever move out of Russian Hill, I'm still going to come back for the level of service and care.

I don't know where to start on how amazing Bernard was! We called with a last minute grooming request and Bernard was extremely flexible to fit our dog into his very busy day. Our Aussie doodle Ellie has hair that we're not used to and Bernard took the time to help us understand what we need to do to maintain her fur. Not only did Ellie need a haircut, she was matted and Bernard was very accommodating to de-matt her. Bernard regularly checked in with us and we're so happy with her haircut. He did a fantastic job! Bernard is very professional, compassionate, and accommodating! We will definitely take Ellie back and recommend Showtime to our friends. Thank you Bernard!

Doggie in her favorite spot, under an office chair, and very mellow after her Showtime Grooming. Well done!

Definitely great. After a very bad prior experience it was a pleasure to find Showtime Grooming. Most important - my dog was very mellow after her bath and grooming. And she was well bathed, brushed out, clean teeth, little toenails clipped... all in all a very good visit. We'll definitely be back again and again.

My partner and I just picked up our golden-doodle puppy, Oscar, from Showtime for the second time and we are nothing but happy! Bernard is extremely welcoming and always offers his professional opinion but ultimately encourages us to make the final grooming decisions. Walking in the second time, Oscar was so excited to be back at Showtime! We called around to get ideas for pricing, and Showtime was the most fair and affordable around. Will definitely continue taking Oscar back :)

Is Bernard good with Puppies? She is a 5 months old bichon? She's a very small dog with the energy of 5 people packed into 2.8 lbs

Bernard was very gentle with my 4lb ball of energy and wiggles so I am confident he would be great with your puppy.

Our maltipoo in particular had very difficult grooming experiences prior to Dennise. Dennise is dedicated to serving every dog she grooms regardless of age and temperament. We can attest that she built a strong relationship with our maltipoo that has helped her feel more at ease being groomed (a true feat). Dennise also is the only groomer we have trusted with our bernedoodle puppy which has clearly paid off: our puppy seems to truly enjoy hanging out with all the groomers and other pups when she is in the shop. Dennise is clearly passionate about her work and it is an added bonus that she gives her clients excellent hair cuts. Shout out also to Brian for all of his hard work behind the scenes keeping the business side streamlined. He is kind, friendly, and makes scheduling appointments easy for us which is greatly appreciated. We look forward to continuing to work with Dennise and Brian for many years to come. TLDR; Highly recommend VIP grooming to any dog owners in SF who are looking for compassionate groomers who are passionate about individualizing dogs' care and serving their clients with the upmost professionalism!

They were careless with the lives of YOUR animals. Two dogs without collars or leashes ran out onto the sidewalk behind her and luckily followed her to the other side of the store. They could have just as easily run into the street without collars and been killed! I yelled out about the gate and the lady DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE DOGS WERE FOLLOWING HER. Then she carried one dog back to the other side and the other dog, again without a collar or leash just walked back onto the sidewalk and back to the other side again. They were lucky these two dogs were so well behaved but no matter how well behaved a dog is, they should ALWAYS be on leash when out on the sidewalk. Fortunately all the dogs are safe, but seeing this carelessness I would NEVER BRING MY DOG BACK HERE. If they are that careless with other peoples beloved animals they shouldn't even have a business. Do not trust them to protect your animal while in their care. ** edit in response to owner below: Well it seems other commenters have seen the same, including with their own dogs being off leash outside. So I highly doubt what you're saying is true. Either way, never bringing my dog here again and I'm going to continue to tell others the same. Lastly, if you let shops dogs outside off leash then you are still an irresponsible dog owner. Leashes are required by law for a reason. If you don't care enough about your own dogs to leash them outside, I don trust you with my dogs. You should be fined and your dogs taken before they are harmed.

But sometimes we love animals in a way that supports their exploitation and harms them. The issue is that this store is misguidedly treating these sentient beings like merchandise by buying them from breeders (possibly even breeding mills, they would not tell me where they get birds from) then selling them to make money. Birds, and no animal, should be bought/sold for profit and in doing so we are commodifying them and contributing to the existing crisis of birds who are already in need of homes. If people stop buying/selling birds, people would instead adopt them from rescues and shelters and alleviate the stress and burden on rescuers while getting animals who actually need homes in to homes, instead of breeding more and more in to existence. Additionally, many birds suffer immensely in captivity and rip our their own feathers out of distress (a behavior that does not happen in the wild) these animals are not domesticated, are highly social and should be living in huge flocks and flying free in their natural habitats. I really hope someday this store will do the right thing and prioritize what is in the best interest of the animals by ceasing to buy birds from exploitative breeders and selling them like merchandise for profit, and instead host adoption events with local bird rescues as there are thousands of birds who desperately need forever homes. I love pet stores and I shop at them all the time as I have 20+ rescued animals I need supplies for. The vast majority of pet stores in SF thrive without selling animals, and I know the Animal Company can too! :) The folks at the Animal Company are nice people and my concerns are not a personal attack on them.

If they haven't had the item I'm seeking, they make helpful suggestions. Longer: I have an extremely picky cat and there have been times over the years I've forgotten to order her special food or the delivery is delayed, so then I go hunting through the City. Plus, I love animals and stopping in a mom and pop pet shop "just to see what there is" happens frequently xD Unfortunately, the Animal Company hasn't carried what I needed in the past, as the cat and dog food selection is fairly limited (yet varied) given the hundreds of varieties of foods nowadays. I digress... just last weekend my kitty's special kidney food was delayed in transit and the lil chonker ate through her last order in record time. Kitty has gotten accustomed to a mix of kidney+core wellness and she let us know allllllll night Friday into Saturday that her food was not right. After two nights in a row of poor sleep, I was determined to find (Weruva) Wx Low Phos tilapia+tuna somewhere in the City. PFE website says they have it, but no stores have in stock (thank goddess I called before trekking). Called a few of the smaller shops around town with no luck. As options were dwindling, I gave The Animal Company a call and imagine my surprise when a cheery voice on the other end of the phone confirmed they did indeed have what I was looking for! It was 4th of July and the person on the phone informed me they were closing early, around 3pm, and put 4 cans of food aside for me. I immediately hopped off the couch and we got on our way to the J. Within an hour I had kidney friendly food plus some kidney friendly treats (!! Wx Low Phos new product) in hand, a full belly (stopped at Subs Inc. across the street), and we were on our way back home. Note: yes, about half+ the store is dedicated to birbs. I'm glad I took some time to read reviews+Rick's responses here on Yelp, 'cause admittedly it made me a lil sad to see some of the birbs in the store, I realize now I subconsciously avoided it. Turns out, many of the birbs in store are being boarded (and very! well cared for). Totally understandable some may look sad given they're in a new environment and very likely missing their humans. I know my kitty would be absolutely out of sorts if taken out of home while I was away (and sure, birbs are different than cats, but these birbs are VERY smart). I've been following a woman on YT, I think a random covid SiP stumble, who has educated me on these magnificent, fascinating creatures (birbs).
