A few weeks ago a had to drop some clothes off at the tailor. After I decided to stop Shreve & Co. to look at some of their watches. As luck would have it they had a Grail Watch of mine. The quartz Omega Seamaster as worn by Pierce Brosnan in "GoldenEye". I had wanted that watch since I saw it way back in November 1995. At the time I couldn't afford it. But now 30 years on I can. However, it took two visits and the excellent service from Bianca and Tatiana. Both were very helpful in allowing me to make the decision on my own. This was important. This review is not about a purchase but one of customer service. We walked into the store for a determination if a diamond we found was authentic or not. We were greeted right away and when we asked if they had someone who can look at a diamond for authenticity we were told by Yuvi Singh, "I can do it for you." He left for a moment and brought back a high-tech scanning instrument that gave us the result immediately. We explained we were just down the street at CH Premier Jewelers who wouldn't even look at it. He showed us a diamond ring my wife just loved but we needed to think about that size of a purchase before committing. Since my son likes Tudor, we walked in and were greeted by Tiffany where we introduced ourselves. While my son was browsing a particular Tudor SKU and speaking with Tiffany, I noticed a open bottle of Step Curry's Gentleman's Cut Whiskey which was offered to me with a solid ice cube while I waited. Update to my past review: Over the last few years the Shreve and Co has changed to Rolex Boutique and we have dropped by a few times, a few of which we have been able to get in and check out watches and put in our name for some that we like. I was having trouble Swapping out a band on my Omega Speedmaster. I went to the Authorized Dealer, and they said they would charge me $100 to do it, because I hadn't bought the watch in their store. I walked into Shreve & Co. down the block and said I needed service on an Omega. They politely explained they only do service on watches they are an authorized retailer for, but when I said it was just a band swap, the man smiled, took the watch and did it for free. I am looking to purchase my third Rolex and will not be visiting Shreve Palo Alto. In July 2020 I made an appointment with Thor Dickinson at Shreve to look into Rolex, my first serious foray into a luxury brand. Without a word, the store manager briskly walked past me, guarding the entrance alongside security as I talked to Thor. The manager looked in, not out. As soon as I stepped one foot out of the door upon leaving, the manager walked back in without a word yet again. I called a week later to update my preference and Thor hung up on me after I announced myself. I called again and he was rude. Feeling that Shreve aggressively rejected my business, I visited a competing AD and was treated very well after I explained the Shreve situation. As a matter of fact, the other store offered me a Rolex SeaDweller within 6 months of my initial inquiry. This is what I call true customer service and I'm sorry Clay Sims passed. Although I can't say for certain why I was treated so poorly at Shreve, I am not naive. Out of all the high end places I visited (Nieman Marcus, Cartier, CH Premiere*****, Omega Boutique, Torneau, J Licht and Sons*****) Shreve is the only one that treated me like I was casing the joint. I cannot give high enough praise for Erik Rominger at Shreve. I live in the city so do not have occasion to come to this Shreve location. I was in Palo Alto for a conference and on a lark decided to stop by Shreve without an appointment. Erik kindly let me in and took care of me. I explained I was looking for certain Rolex watches as a celebration for a recent work accomplishment. He was very patient, taking me through various models, trying on the watches that I wanted (including very hard to get models). I understood (and he explained well) the current shortage of Rolex supply and how he could only show exhibition models. But he did ask for my top two models and took them down. I thought nothing of it at the time, as I knew that some Authorized Dealers play games with the waitlist and I knew it would be a long shot to get the watches I wanted. I did follow up once or twice a few months later, but again Erik asked me to be patient and he would have me top of mind. Low and behold, Erik contacted me after another few months and said he had one of the watches on my waitlist ready to purchase, and asking if I wanted it. I sprinted down to Palo Alto from the city that day and picked it up. I was overjoyed with the watch I received as I'd been wanting for this particular model for over three years and it was a treat to purchase it to celebrate a very special occasion. At every turn, Erik was kind and patient. He followed up with me as well and any time I had any questions he got back to me right away. Frankly, he underpromised and overdelivered! The staff here is nice when you visit, but you get ghosted pretty quickly once you leave. While that is somewhat understandable for new clients given the high-demand, that shouldn't be the case for returning customers. I've bought 2 rolex from here (in 2018 and 2019) and trying to buy a 3rd has been a 6-year nightmare. Part of the reason you go to the same AD is to build a history and relationship with the business. The original sales person I worked with is no longer there, but i was really surprised that my prior purchases were also gone from their system too. They kept telling me their computers were getting updated, but it was the same excuse every time I went in. Once I even brought in my receipts, but they told me they can't manually update their files. They said "rest assured, we will get you another watch" but of course, I get no response from them after leaving the store. I've now churned through 3+ different sales people that are no longer there still not getting anywhere. read more

From management to the sales floor, there seems to be a genuine care and respect towards each one of their customers. I've been into the store just to look around, been very open about not looking to purchase anything, and sat for an hour talking about watches with various members of the team there. Everyone I've met - Thor, Brandon, Geoff - just seems to live by the highest standards of customer service I've ever seen. My salesman, Craig, has taken care of me from the start, checking in when he thinks I'd like new pieces or inviting me to their store opening event. He's never pushy, but always available and always willing to go above and beyond to make sure whatever I'm looking for is as perfect as it can be. This is completely independent of their inventory - as for their products, they have the best selection I've ever seen. In addition to being a Rolex AD, they have an incredible IWC, Tudor, and Nomos selection, alongside Wellendorff jewelery and much, much more. If you're into watches or jewelry at all, whether you're a local or merely in the area, a visit to Shreve is a must. Updated Review. After established my relationship with my salesman, Brandon. I've received a surprise call from him on a Sunday afternoon says he might have something that fits my wishlist! I wanted to get a link added to my existing Rolex and also wanted to look at some new Rolexes because I was in the market for a gold Rolex in a smaller size because I have a 36 with a diamond bezel and I need something more every day. 2 PM on a Monday I try to go into Shreve and there were two men working there. They wouldn't even let us in and wouldn't even give us the time of day. They didn't even offer us an appointment. They sent the SECURITY GUARD to tell us to leave and come back "later". I have never been treated with disrespect at a luxury shop. I was trying to find a new Rolex dealer because I shop at Stanford frequently and my existing Rolex dealer is in Burlingame. Needless to say, I will never be walking into Shreve and going back to Kerns in Burlingame for my next Rolex. I came to Shreve with the intent to have my watch sized. It is an antique watch, ~50 years old that was passed down to me from my late father. Brandon, who specializes in the brand, helped me with this and explained in detail how he would go about it. I liked that he informed me what he was going to do before taking it back to make the adjustment. I felt he respected the watch and the sentimental value it holds. I went to browse through the collection while I waited. I had previously expressed interest in a different watch of the same brand that was unavailable at that time. I casually chatted with Brandon and his manager, Jeff about why I was particularly interested in that specific model and how I planned to eventually pass it down to my kids, just as my father had passed his down to me. Due to the model's popularity, I had absolutely no expectations for it to be available this time either. Or so I thought... Welp... Brandon had to step away for a moment while I geeked out on the display model. He came back and told me they had just received one from the manufacturer and I can own the watch TODAY! I had no expectation I would go in with one watch and walk out with two. I'm sure I also have Jeff to thank (but I was so excited, I walked out without thanking him). Shreve & Co is a San Francisco jewelry institution that has been around since the mid 1800's. Literally since gold rush times. I used to go to the SF store when it was still in the Shreve building. As a bay area native I appreciate working with local businesses like this. This review is about the Stanford Shopping center store. Shreve at Stanford shopping center is really good especially for watches. The selection of premium brands is excellent. They are an authorized Rolex dealer but carry a number of other really good brands like Tudor, Panerai, IWC and many more. The staff at the Stanford store is very helpful and knowledgeable. I have been working with a guy named Thor for many years and he has always given me really good info. If you collect watches and want the true nerd level of detail he is great. He can go really deep about the watches themselves but also has a great industry perspective. This is particularly useful if what you are after is harder to find. read more
