I went in to place a takeout order and the staff member up front was rude and had an attitude. I initially wanted to order dumplings, but was told there's a $10 minimum to use my card, so I said I'll take another look at the menu. About 2 minutes later, I went to the counter again to order pork lo mein and wonton soup. The staff member was visibly irritated and rudely said, "You have to tell us. You didn't say anything and now the dumplings are almost done." It felt unnecessary, considering I hadn't finalized my order and told them I would take another look at the menu. Food wise: The pork lomein was a bland and both the noodles and pork were a bit dry. The pork tasted off in addition to the poor texture. I wouldn't order it again. On the other hand, the wonton soup was delicious with deep flavor in the broth. Best wonton soup I've had from a casual restaurant. It was hot, flavorful, and not oily. The wontons were good as well. We are loyal customers who have been enjoying food from this place for years. We placed a very large order for delivery the other night, the price being close to $200.00. The order was delivered and the delivery person counted the money and had the nerve to tell me there was no tip, which I thought was rude! They gave the impression that they were not leaving without one! I gave less than 10%, not wanting to make a scene with a houseful of guests. We ordered the pork chop over rice, snow pea shoots, and mei fun (thin rice noodles with mushroom, etc.) The pork chop over rice was pretty dry and it could have used more flavor. There was some minced beef in the rice but not much. The snow pea shoots were pretty good but would have preferred if there was more garlic. The mei fun was decent and had a good portion to share. The food here is good as in my last review but the service has change mostly from the lady who I believe is the owner. The girl is the front is super sweet and welcoming and the man (owner). But the lady who is also an owner is rude and sarcastic. Lastly she's been charging for everything. I understand prices have gone up across the world but she's charging for hot oil whether you spend $60 or $10. Sometimes she charges you 50 cents when you spend under $10 using cash which is fine I get it but not consist as other times she charges 80 cents. But the main issue was I brought to her attention how no other Chinese restaurant I go to or my computer orders charges for hot oil and her response to me was "well next time we should go to the other and ask for extra hot sauce then". Every rude and disrespectful responses as I was spending $50.00 on food. The other lady working there shook her head in disbelief that she said that to me. Takeout is the only option for this place, as they're still not allowing dine-in, which is fine for most people I expect for these types of establishments. I ordered takeout for my family, and our dishes ranged from chicken corn soup, chicken and broccoli, chicken fried rice, vegetable lo mein, vegetable chow fun, and mapo tofu. I think we've found our Chinese takeout go-to in the area! It's a solid place for everything I mentioned above (tasty and not greasy noodles, white meat chicken and not mushy broccoli), except for the mapo tofu. I'm still looking for a place near to where I live now where it's not covered in chili oil, and I'm also not a fan of the szechuan peppercorn. Wow - this has got to be one of the best Chinese take out places that I've ever been to. I'm a total fan of the BBQ spare ribs, sesame chicken (made with white meat), pepper shrimp, and the Yung chow fried rice. Went to Golden Wok tonight (it's been a while!!) having a taste for veggie fried rice, fried dumplings, wonton soup, moo shu pork(which had authentic pancakes not mission tortillas like some places give) and hot tea. Ate in the restaurant on a cold night and everything was soo delicious and exactly what we had a taste for. We didn't want to leave the house but it was very much worth the trip!! We were so excited to eat that we forgot to take pictures but next time since we will be back soon! read more

The staff was very polite and friendly, however the food was nothing impressive. Egg rolls - 2 bites (ie: very tiny) crispy but no flavor Sweet & Sour chicken - couldn't cut through it with a fork, the chicken was very dry, also very greasy Shrimp & Lobster sauce - huge pieces of water chestnut, the shrimp still had their tails on (just a pet peeve of mine, now I have to reach into the hot sauce to detail each shrimp). Golden Wok is a restaurant my family has gone to for 15+ years for sitdown, and can wholly trust their food quality and ingredient freshness. We usually sit down to eat at the restaurant (we actually have never ordered delivery or takeout at this place..yet haha)--the restaurant has a unique free appetizer of pickled broccoli stems which I could eat with all my meals if I could (they gave us some points and tips on making it home but not comparable to the real thing)...it's tangy and sweet and crunchy--ugh so good. You can't go wrong with their beef noodle soup or any of their noodle soups. Their lunch specials with the more traditional Chinese dishes are a good deal. For dishes, the eggplant dish, beef with bamboo (spicy) are my favorite. I've never had the more Chinese-American dishes at Golden Wok (like the general tso or beef and brccoli), but I'd imagine it has to be pretty good if they are doing the more traditional Chinese food right! read more

This place rocks. First of all, it's immaculately clean. Even the inside of the wooden caddies on each table are clean, with all sugar/salt packets perfectly in a row, all caps on soy sauce are clean... the booth itself was clean, there wasn't so much as a slight oily sheen to the table top. That fact in itself was impressive for a restaurant at this price point. It's clear the owners and servers take a great deal of pride in this spot. Everything was super reasonably priced. General tso's was $12.95, hot and sour soup was $2.95. This was exactly in line with expectations. As soon as we sat down we IMMEDIATELY had fried wonton strips, dipping sauce, and hot tea in a teapot to keep us busy (was it oolong? Unsure, but definitely well brewed and good to drink.) Our server didn't so much as write anything down, just perfectly remembered our order. She wasn't pushy but had been walking around a bit and was immediately available when we wanted to order. Food was prompt. My soup came out after maybe 2-3 minutes. Egg roll and fried dumplings came out after maybe 7-10 minutes. Our entrees were at the table within 20-25 minutes of us ordering. This place wasn't full, probably four other tables... but timing was perfect. Server and busser checked on our table and the food was PERFECT. My Mongolian beef was sautéed with green onions and hot peppers, the general two's chicken my BF ordered was very lightly fried... crispy and moist on the inside with a light sauce. Nothing too syrupy or sticky. The flavors were perfect, all the meat was tender. On top of it all -- they gave us plenty of rice and honestly the dinner portions for each meal were gigantic. I could have easily shared my beef with another person and had been full. I had half left over after dinner. Fantastic service, delicious food that was well flavored and not super oily, spotless restaurant. All my expectations were exceeded for an American-style Chinese restaurants. After reading the reviews we thought would try this place as we were looking for a place to replace the one we usually go to. This is not it! First the chicken wings they just half wings and very small so chicken was dried out. The egg rolls as someone else mentioned were small. Both disappointing. The shrimp with snow peas was good but they left the tail on so you had to struggle with it. My husband had the egg foo young and said it was ok nothing special. I thought the serving was a little skimpy as usually he has leftovers. I have the Thai pineapple fried rice with shrimp. First the rice was just whatever rice with some peppers and pineapple in it. Hello I just wanted to let all of you know for this chinese restaurant in Raritan NJ in the Somerville area is a decent restaurant in the Somerset county... there are other chinese restaurants that are better than this restaurant especially in the Middlesex County... but my review on this particular restaurant well like I said it is a decent restaurant in this Somerville area but there is one female employee that handles the front when you walk in to the restaurant and she is normally there taking orders if you are in person or calling on the phone...this same female employee is the one I will let everyone know that she is a total witch of an employee...I don't know what her nasty attitude problem is but she is so rude and has nasty way about her... i notice the one time I go there she is nice to anyone who is not asian but maybe she singles me out since I am asian and is absolutely rude with me...I just wanted all of you know she has that nasty bipolar attitude about her... I would give a 0 rating but difficult to do here... I went there on Saturday July 15 2023 to order one item and I asked a simple question and she had to be damn rude about it... Love this place! We came for a dine-in meal and were immediately served with hot tea and wonton chips. We ordered the mapo tofu with pork, General Tsos, and crab rangoons. The crab rangoons were so fresh and stuffed full. The hot chili sauce served with it was sweeter than I am accustomed to. The general tsos was very crispy white meat chicken. And the mapo tofu was good, although the tofu was a little too soft for me. The meal ended with orange slices and fortune cookies. Side note- the menu had a traditional Chinese menu in the back as well. The service was great, the ladies were sweet and always checking up on us. We will definitely be making this our Chinese go to.
