Went in for lunch. The place wasn't overly busy, and the service was great. I got a grilled chicken salad. The grilled chicken was tasty, the lettuce was shredded, and there were generous amounts of black olives, onions, and banana peppers. It's more of a pub than a bar. You'll see families as well as couples and small groups. There's TV but its not an issue as far as noise. The food is wonderful with different specials throughout the week. It's not just appetizers either. On Wednesday they serve steak, Saturday is surf-n-turf. The drinks are good, the appetizers are great, the jerk shrimp is unbelievable. The staff is friendly and courteous, the beer is cold, and the service is fast even when they're crowded. Love this place! Good cold Devil Anse IPA on tap along with other good brews. Had the fried oysters with hand cut fries and homemade coleslaw that pairs perfectly with fish/seafood. Nice portions. My wife had the cod with the same sides and a wonderful homemade blackberry cobble. Excellent meal. Bethany provided prompt and friendly service. Can't ask for more. I was in the neighborhood and decided to give this place a try. They did not disappoint. For an appetizer, we ordered the pretzels and beer cheese and they were so good, we ordered another basket of them while we waited for our entrees. The steaks were delicious, the baked potato and salads were amazing and our server was the BEST!! I can't remember her name, but she mentioned her family owning a boat and how they enjoyed boating on the Kanawha River. She was such a delight. We will definitely be back!! read more

This place is awesome. I have been here 4-5 times. This last time, we had a group of about ten for a birthday dinner. We arrived around 6:45pm and were told it would be an hour wait, but they were awesome to get us seated out front -- we just had to wait for about 30-40 minutes. Our waitress Bethany was awesome! She was so fun and had a great personality. She handled our large (crazy) group like a CHAMP! Thank you, Bethany for being awesome. Our food was also great, as usual. It was the first time some our group had been to Shuckers, and everyone loved it. My sister in law had a great birthday. Can't wait to go back. This place was highly recommended to me by my co-workers. They all said order the mushrooms there the best. I'm new to Saint Albans just moved here and good food and service is hard to find. I arrived at Shuckers at 7:00 pm on Friday 10/26/2018. I sat at the bar. After 10 mins one of the bar tenders asked me what I wanted to drink. I ordered a light beer and there mushrooms. At 7:30 pm I still haven't received my appetizer. At 7:45 pm still no mushrooms. By 8 pm I decided to leave. I sat there for an hour and received the worst service ever!, I received no food and wasted 1 hour of my time. No one there cared no one there asked if I wanted something else. Really Shucker 1 hour and no mushroom? I was disgusted with there professionalism a bunck of burned out senior citizens running the place. I left Shuckers and went to the Rivers Edge Café a block down from Shuckers. I arrived at 8:07 pm. I sat at there bar and in no time was asked what I wanted to drink and if I needed a menu. I ordered a water to drink and there mushrooms. By 8:22pm I received a nice basket of crab stuffed mushrooms. It took The Rivers Edge Café 15 mins to serve me. Shuckers didn't seem to care when I received my order. No one there even asked me. I would not recommend Shuckers to anyone unless you have hours to wait for your meal. They may or may not have the best mushrooms, I will never know. Either the bar tender dropped the ball on my order at Shuckers or gave my order to someone he knew or the bar tender never placed the order at all. Not only does the food need to be the best the service has to be better and Shuckers didn't deliver and there competition down the street does a much better job serving food. I would never go to Shuckers for lunch because it would take to long to receive your food. Nice job Rivers Edge Café keep doing what your doing and you will be very successful. Shuckers you need to change the way your employees serve the locals. Your as good as your service and your service sucks. read more

2nd time trying to eat here. The first time we couldn't get waited on. Tonight we still didn't have our food an hour after ordering, so my husband went to talk to the manager. He said "We have a small kitchen, we tell our servers to inform customers that it will be at least a 45-minute wait." Went down the street to The Cafe and had great service and food. read more
