A modern hotpot place with plenty of space and nice ipad order convenience! The staff is really nice and there were a ton of different options for broth, meats, etc. This not a AYCE place however. So the add-ins did feel slightly higher quality, but it did come at the price of the lack of infinite meats that you could include. This place is solid, but also feels a bit more expensive for what it is compared to other options in the area. I paid around $95 for 2 people if I remember correctly. I'm starting to feel that I messed up because I didn't come at a time when there were discounts which might entirely be my fault. We have been to this hotpot restaurant a couple times now and they always deliver great food! Their dining space is fairly big comparatively to other Boston restaurants, so seating is usually fast. Even during busy hours, the wait is short. The staff are attentive and very fast with service, running around to serve everyone on time! We have tried both a la carte and AYCE, and both options are great depending on how hungry you are. Their AYCE plates came pretty fast after ordering and includes most of their menu. I also really appreciate their delicious sauce bar and snacks for grabbing anytime! They have a great selection of broths as well, I enjoyed their tomyum and golden chicken options. Overall, I think this is absolutely one of the better hotpot places in Boston, and highly recommend to all that are in the area! read more

I went for a noodle soup rather than a hotpot. The soup was fairly spicy and the protein choice (chicken) was nicely flavored and tender. That said, I wish that some other other ingredients (like spam) were not there. The soup itself was super oily, which made it hard to eat. This place is soooo good! They have 4 vegetarian broth options which was amazing. We got the original spice level 3 and tom yum, with a lot of veggies. The broth was delicious, though I could have done with maybe spice level 1 or 2, 3 was way too spicy for me . They had great service and really nice seating. Came here for valentines day as it's one of the very few hot pot restaurants where you can make a reservation. Food came out in less than 5 min after ordering on the ipad. Everything was delicious and the service was great. We even got a brown sugar rice cake dessert for free. Ambiance is really nice; I feel it's pretty spacious but fills up quick during dinner time. We got prime ribeye, short rib for the meat, signature shrimp paste, napa cabbage, and watercress, fish tofu, half herbal broth half tom yum broth, side of egg fried rice, hand pulled noodles. Super satisfied and we were stuffed. I also got the lime wamama drink which was like a yogurt drink and it was great to wash down all the saltiness. Service was amazing, the moment you enter the restaurant, the whole staffs greeted you in Chinese very loudly and friendly. You get to make your own sauces at the station. Our bill was $320 for 6, not bad for hotpot, since hotpot is pretty pricey nowadays. They offer coat hanging service, so your jackets/coats will not smelled like hotpot once you finish the meal. A nice hotpot place on Comm Ave at BU's East campus right next to one of the science buildings. This place replaced another restaurant and I'm excited that I finally got the chance to try it. I came here on a Sunday morning right when they opened up and we were able to get seated at a table right away. The server gave us the iPad to order food and we ordered the beef/pork combo, fish balls, shrimp paste, napa, mushroom platter, watercress and noodles. The sauce bar and appetizers are an additional $3 per person, which we also added on. Everything came out fresh and we got the mild spicy broth and a mushroom broth. I'm glad we ordered mild because the spice level was tolerable and you were able to get the spicy kick flavor without the burning pain of your mouth. I grabbed some edamame and peanuts from the bar for additional flavors and textures to the meal. Overall, it was a pretty filling meal for 2 people and the restaurant was full when we left. Hot pot is my favorite type of food, and I'm on a mission to try all hot pot restaurants in the Boston area. So far, Shu Daxia is my favorite! It's a pretty spacious restaurant and is walk-in only. You can join the waitlist in advance, like we joined the waitlist from yelp's link and ubered over in time. Staff is generally nice. The deco is probably the cutest I've seen, for hot pot. The tables for two are a bit uncomfortable - you don't have much foot space. Food - the mushroom broth (with spicy heat level) is my new go-to broth. Very mushroom-y taste, with enoki & shiitake mushrooms already in the broth. The sichuan was very spicy, but really oily. They generally always are, no matter where you go. Loved the sauce station. And for hot pot ingredients, the signature beef slices that you dip in milk are top notch. The veggie combo is the perfect amount of veggies for 2 people. We also got the fish filets, wide rice noodles and hand cut ramen noodles. They also have a cool soda selection that I plan to try next time (apricot soda??!!). I would give them 5 stars but the foot space was uncomfortable and I was also craving beef tendon which they didn't have on the menu. I came with a group of 8, and when I called ahead to make a reservation the lady was very friendly and helpful for us (I wasn't able to do so online). We got there just around 6pm on a weekday, and while it was definitely filling up, there were still plenty of tables empty. (When we left, though, the place was much busier and there were a handful of parties waiting to be seated.) Ordering is entirely via QR code which has a bit of an allure to it - it's very exciting to continually put in our orders of plates of meats and veggies and hear the "ding!" of the order being received in the back. Overall, a quite good meal - meats were tasty (we really liked the prime ribeye and the fatty beef), and they had a pretty wide selection of fresh vegetables, mushrooms, fishballs, etc. Very satisfied with both the quality and the quantity of all the portions. Word of warning though - the mala broth is *really* spicy. We ordered the lowest level (mild) but still found our mouths burning early on in the meal. It is a bit pricey, especially if you come with a smaller group as I can imagine, but worthwhile in my opinion. I think Boston does not have the most plentiful selection of Chinese hot pot restaurants, so I'm glad that I can count Shu Da Xia as a top choice in the future. Also, they are bigger than the likes of Liuyishou and I don't think I saw a queue form during our meal, which is a big plus in my opinion - it's never a great feeling when I'm craving hotpot to show up to a 2 hour wait time :) read more

Today was my first time trying Shu Daxia hotpot and it was a great experience! I love hotpot and have tried almost all of the places in Boston. I know that Shu Daxia is newer and I had not heard many things about it but decided to give it a go today. I love going to Chinese hotpot for the extremely spicy Szechuan broth and was happy to hear that that even their mild broth is very spicy. I got the signature spicy broth which you can choose the spice level (extra mild, mild, spicy, extra spicy, and even more spicy for $2 more). I got spicy and it was the perfect amount of spice; a little tingly in your mouth but not painful to eat. The one thing about the broth was it had a hint of lamb flavor (at least to me) which I personally don't love but it wasn't enough to deter me. I ordered the fatty beef, beef ribeye, knife shaved noodles, bok choy, and tofu puff. Both cuts of beef were delicious but I prefer the fatty beef because it had more flavor to me. The bok choy was huge but very fresh. Tofu puff was great but the star of the show was the knife shaved noodles. They were dried when served but once cooked they tasted like they were freshly made. The noodles were amazing texture and I would come back just for the noodles because not many hot pot places have noodles this unique and fresh tasting. On top of the food, the sauce bar (which is an additional $3) is a necessity and had everything I look for in a sauce. I like how their sauce bar had other snacks like orange slices, nuts, some seaweed side dish, dried pea snacks, rice crackers, and the melon candies. You order everything on an iPad which was very easy to use and straightforward. The service was quick and attentive and I overall had a great experience. I have high standards for hotpot and Shu Daxia definitely exceeded my standards. I will for sure be returning! read more

Pros: - Deep seating for the hotpot so it is at table level when put in so you don't have to peek over or strain to reach over pot - Mini vent set right around the hotpot to suck up the smells, it doesn't get everything but still a great idea and at least 50% isn't getting on your clothes - Presentation of each meat dish if phenomenal along with the quality (I recommend the fatty beef to get the gram of dry ice vapors. - Cool cocktails menu Cons: - $3 dollar pp charge for sauce station (although that is probably due to the above average sauce variety you get that otherwise would be complimentary) - Very pricey Parking is street level and very hard since you're right in BU and in front of the Questrom School.
