This is a classic Cantonese clay pot place in Boston. The restaurant is quite small, but it wasn't too busy on a weekday lunchtime. I got the chicken and sausage clay pot rice, along with vegetables and a soup. The clay pot took a while to come out, but it was warm and fresh. The crispy rice bits from the bottom were great, and I really liked the soup and vegetables too. Always great to get authentic Chinese food like this in the states.
A no fuss, no frills restaurant. Simply delicious food is what you will get. This is a rather small space. I came for a late dinner and it did not take long to get a table. They bring out a complimentary hot tea when dining in. I got the chicken and sausage clay pot and water spinach. Both were exceptional. The chicken was perfectly moist and juicy. The crispy bits of rice were amazing. I also got a hot Hong Kong style milk tea which tasted exactly like my childhood. I am not from Boston, but I would gladly come back whenever I am here visiting again.
the clay pot is good i really liked the flavor. they have a variety of options to chose from and other dishes that aren't clay pot. definitely a worthwhile place to check out in chinatown if you're visiting just know the inside is small.

It was our first time trying this style in the U.S., and it's a total game-changer if you're looking for authentic Cantonese comfort food. The restaurant is small and cozy, giving it that perfect "hole-in-the-wall" feel where the focus is entirely on the craft of the clay pot. The Highlights: * Abalone & Lobster Clay Pot: My wife had this combination, and it was excellent. The lobster was fresh and paired perfectly with the tender abalone. It's a more upscale take on the traditional rice pot that felt very special. * Frog Clay Pot: I went with the frog, and it was cooked just right--nice and tender without being overdone. * The Rice : This is the best part of the experience. The jasmine rice is perfectly cooked and sauce, but the real prize is the crispy, caramelized layer at the bottom of the pot. My wife wanted to eat here badly for lunch. We ordered the 1. Turtle Soup 2. Chicken gizzards with bell pepper 3. Frog Clay Pot Everything you do is over the phone like ordering. They hand you the food. We also ordered the tea as well. The vegetables like the peppers would good that we ate the entire thing. We ended up eating all three of the dishes and was good.
Got dinner delivery from here and was very satisfied. I've been to the Clay Pot OG location in Chinatown many years ago and remembered it was quite good. So when I landed in Logan and opened Uber eats to look for dinner option, I was excited when I saw Clay Pot Cafe popping up. I ordered the clay pot dish with Chinese bbq sausages and pork congee. Both were very good. Highly recommend checking this place out.
Renovations have definitely improved claypot cafe from last time I was here which was like a decade ago. They leverage the QR code ordering system where you can scan the QR code from the table itself, which brings up the menu and you can select an order right from the directed website. You can order from the staff as well. He speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese. The food is cooked to order so you might have to wait a little bit. The prices are very reasonable and the portion options allow you to order a large medium or small. 4/5 - The beef chow foon was excellent with the right amount of wok air and very well priced at around $12 for big plate. 4/5 - the Chinese sausage with spare ribs, clay pot rice came piping hot and super fragrant. The rice was perfect softness and mixed with the hardened rice bits. The juices flavored the rice well and really hit the spot. 4/5 - Braised beef brisket was meaty and the flavorful sauce really made this dish top notch. Mix this with the rice from the claypot and you have the perfect combination. The portion of brisket is generous for the price. The staff tried to upsell me on the herbal soup, but I was way too full so maybe next time. Overall, an excellent place for a hearty and recently priced meal. It gets full really quick so I advise you to come right before they open. About 30 minutes after we sat down the place was already packed.
It's a very small restaurant with 6 tables but the restaurant was packed. Ginseng and black chicken soup was warm and nourishing. Chicken gizzard with peppers was slightly overcooked and chewy. The pork intestines with peppers could have been washed more thoroughly. Three treasures clay pot rice absorbed all the flavors of the meat cooked on top
When I visited Boston Chinatown, I randomly found a place on Google Map named "Mongkok Clay Pot Rice" in chinese, which resembled a place in Hong Kong. It was 19°F so we were desperately in need of warm and carb-heavy food. The clay pot kept the rice steaming hot from start to finish, perfect for the cold weather in Boston. ＊Chinese Sausage and Bacon Clay Pot Rice 臘味煲仔飯 (L) $33 Their clay pot rice is available in small, medium and large portion. We were too ambitious and got large...My jaw dropped when the food arrived. The portion was MASSIVE. It could easily feed 3-4 people. I chose the most classic and basic lap cheong claypot rice. It was a layer of chinese sausage and cured pork belly topped on a bed of rice, drizzled with sweet soy sauce. The crispy rice at the bottom was my favorite. I have never had claypot rice in Hong Kong even I was born and raised there. My standard for clay pot rice might be low, but at least they seemed pretty authentic. I wished they could add mushrooms to add more depth of flavors to the rice though. The space was cramped and busy. You place order through QR code, yet the online order system was a mess because they kept messing up people's orders.
When I walked in I was surprised how small the restaurant is. Despite that we were still able to get a seat. The online ordering system was convenient and I like that they had this feature. To start we ordered the Hong Kong milk tea which was standard. The eggplants and vegetable were also standard, nothing special. I was excited to try the eel claypot rice, but it didn't reach my expectations. During the middle of our meal, one of the waitress casually let out a long loud fart without worry. That was definitely a unique experience.
This place is small but legit! I've been dreaming of their food ever since I ate there. You order by scanning a QR code on your table which makes it very easy to order. We were served drinks first (I ordered a Diet Coke and our table ordered a pot of tea). Our food came out fairly quickly, was piping hot, perfectly cooked, and we immediately regretted saying we were going to share our food lol! Seriously! Nobody wanted to share after the first bite. Of course we did share and literally everything was amazing! The ambiance isn't exactly new, but the music that was playing was a whole vibe. I'm 100% going back next time I'm in Boston!!!
I've lived in the Boston area for years now and it's a shame that I've only recently gotten to try Clay Pot Cafe - honestly, it's a very solid spot for clay rice pots and I would gladly come back in the future! The greens we got were cooked well and it was a good portion. The clay pot was good as well and tasted great - good mix of rice and meat. Service was quick as well which was great; from waters to food, it all was fast. The space is a bit small so it's definitely a more intimate spot, but well worth it. Thanks, Clay Pot Cafe!
Incredibly small dining room, maybe 7-8 tables, but friendly and quick service. The clay pots were fantastic and flavorful. Pork ribs were very tasty, but frog was a little bland. Everyone seems to get the black chicken and ginseng soup and I agree it was a decent portion and richness for the price. No insidrnstanding room if you are waiting for a table.

This spot serves authentic Cantonese claypot rice that genuinely feels like a comforting, homemade meal. The rice is well-seasoned and achieves that perfect, crispy layer at the bottom of the pot. Don't judge the book by its cover. It is a small restaurant but everything we tried is tasty and authentic! The servers are very friendly as well! Be mindful of finding parking at Boston Chinatown though as it can get pricey. read more
Bringing colleagues to Clay Pot Cafe, and it was excellent as always. One colleague exclaimed, "I've been missing out on all the claypot rice煲仔飯 I've had before!" Minced Beef Claypot Rice免治牛煲仔飯: Surprisingly, the minced beef was served in a thickened meat sauce. The sauce was smooth, the rice grains were distinct, and after mixing, the egg and meat aromas were rich. The scallions were fragrant without any unpleasant odor, which was a surprise. However, the seasoning was a bit bland, so I added three extra spoonfuls of soy sauce. Spare Rib Claypot Rice排骨煲仔飯: The spare ribs were carefully selected, all easy-to-eat small ribs with a rich meaty flavor. My Sichuan colleague added a lethal amount of chili, which made me, a Cantonese, dizzy, but I have to admit it tasted good. Pork Pattie w. Salted Fish Claypot Rice鹹魚肉餅煲仔飯: I forgot to take a picture, but I didn't see any salted fish, while the patty had a distinct musty aroma from the fish--did it dissolve in the claypot? The pork patty was tender and smooth, simply divine. Hong Kong-style Iced Milk Tea港式凍奶茶: It tasted authentic, but as always, it was a bit bland. We had seen a video about this restaurant and had to try it! Very small restaurant, it doesn't seem like you could fit more than a party of 4 there. But when we arrived we were immediately seated. There were a few single people that came to eat by themselves. Many outgoing orders for food pickups too. The tables have a QR code to scan and you do your ordering on your phone. Our food came out fast and hot! Everything was so delicious. I would come back here in a heartbeat when I'm back in town. read more
For a Monday lunch I went to Clay Pot Cafe. At 11:50 am, the establishment had no customers, save me; within 15 minutes, however, all tables had filled up. I scanned the QR code, went to the chowbus site, and made my order. Note that the establishment does have paper menus. I ordered the curry fish ball appetizer ($5), herbal soup ($5), and beef noodle soup ($13). The soup and fish ball arrived first, and the beef noodle soup after; everything arrived w/in 15 minutes. The curry fish ball does not represent good value; however, I really like this so I got it anyways. 5 balls, $1 each, in a curry sauce. The sauce had the decent herbal earthiness characteristic of cantonese curry, though it could have arrived thicker. It also needed a bit more heat as it arrived just past lukewarm. One compelling reason to go to a traditional Cantonese restaurant instead of a dim sum or big seafood restaurant, for me, remains the herbal soup. Simmered for a while to get all the flavor out of bones, along with dried seafood for sweeter umami, makes this soup hearty in flavor yet light in saiety. I do wish they'd strain the bones out before serving. For the main, I ordered beef noodle soup with rice noodles. Soup seemed decently flavored with stock (not soy sauce in case you wanted Taiwanese style). The beef needed to be heated up as well - its accompanying sauce was also lukewarm, in contrast to the piping hot soup. Overall, not a bad place for a quick meal offering cantonese cuisine, but I wouldn't rave about it. read more
Checked out claypot cafe while in town and it hit the spot! We got the chicken, mushroom, and abalone claypot rice. Didn't take too long to prepare and it tasted delish! They forgot the mushrooms at first and we mentioned it- they brought mushrooms to add to the claypot. Not too pricey either. read more

This small but mighty shop serves amazing piping hot clay pot rice, but with limited seating there may be a worthwhile wait. This spot is perfect for a relaxing meal on a cold day. Food: Clay pot rice is a very comforting dish and a great way to explore more unique Chinese foods. The clay pot rices we got had the perfect crispy sides that paired well with the more tender proteins that tops the rice. The flavors were on the mellow side but still flavorful, meaning you didn't need to take breaks besides cooling down your next spoonful. My favorite part was so hot the dish stays as you continue to eat. Even 20 minutes after they were served, the rice was still piping hot! Service: It's a small operation with 1-2 sweet ladies in the front serving and taking orders. They do their best to accommodate all customers to limit their wait times so sometimes you may end up saying a table with another small group. Atmosphere: This spot is cozy but can get a little hectic at times given the small space. This isn't the type of place to enjoy a long drawn out meal. Clay Pot Cafe can seat about max 12-14 people so best to visit early in the day rather than in the evening. I didnt even think I would get to eat here but I came at the right time before they got busy. While their clay pots are the star of the menu, the menu itself is very expansive and has noodles, soups, porridges and bubble tea as well. Best part was that it is using the QR code on the table so no need to flag anyone down for anything. They bring the food and drop the bill when you are ready. The dishes were very straightforward and delicious. The chow mein was very flavorful mixed in with pieces of beef which I honestly could have had more of. Although the eel was good, I think I prefer the japanese style of eel which tastes more meatier if that makes sense. The burnt rice was fun to scrape off the side because it had such a nice taste to it. The claypot is also a really good size and we paid $51 with tip for everything. I love a moment when we are fed and at a good price. This is a restaurant sells traditional Canton Style pots. These pots normally consist of white rice under your choice of protein. I tried the eels rice this time, the make of it is very traditional, but was disappointed because it was lacking the juiciness. The overall texture was dryer than what I like. Service is pretty good, a couple of people serving about 10 small tables. read more
It the perfect place for a casual dinner. They have limited seating but we didn't have a problem getting a seat on a weekday night. I ended up getting the chicken and chinese sausage clay pot rice. The rice was so fragrant, infused with all of the aromatics: ginger, garlic, chicken juice. After moving away from Boston for 6+ years, I had a mental list of things I must eat when visiting again. This was HIGH on the list and I'm so glad that they're still operating. A few changes: - They're also no longer cash only, which is such a relief. - It seems that they've repainted a few spots--not sure if it's a huge improvement but... sure ;) - They offer larger sizes of clay pot rice and some sichuan food options now?? (Medium is good for 2 people.) I have yet found a clay pot rice place in Seattle that's comparable to this place. I love the flavor, the freshness, and most importantly, the consistency over the years. It's never too greasy or salty and the crispy texture of the rice at the bottom is always fantastic. Seattle folks, let me know if there's a good clay pot rice place in town! read more
We were lucky to stop by when it wasn't super busy, but keep in mind this restaurant is tiny and often fills up, so expect a wait. Everything is ordered online and their menu is pretty extensive, with a decent amount of pictures of each dish which I appreciated. We ordered a milk tea and 2 different rice pots, the chicken & sausage and sausage & bacon. My favorite was definitely the sausage & bacon. The rice was super flavorful and slightly sweet, complimented well by the salty meat. I wasn't super impressed with the chicken & sausage, mostly because it didn't have much of a flavor and the chicken pieces were very boney and difficult to eat. Because the restaurant is very busy, the owner definitely expects a quick turnaround with tables, so this isn't the place for a long chat with friends unless it's completely empty. Overall this place feels very homey and definitely good for a quick bite, but I'm not sure I'd come back again soon. read more
Clay Pot Cafe has been around for what seems like forever but their food is consistent as ever. I have never had a bad meal here and always come for their yellow eel clay pot rice. They give the perfect amount of eel to rice ratio, and the crispy rice is the best part! Please consider visiting to try their clay pot rices, you won't be disappointed. read more

This is one of the hole in the wall spots in Chinatown. It's small inside and not much space to walk around, but the food that they specialize in, they do well. They have tons of options for their claypot rice, so you definitely have to try that. The plus side of it being a small restaurant, it's very easy to get the staff's attention if you need anything. It does get busy during dinner time, so you might have to wait a bit before getting seated. The food just feels so warm and cozy! read more

Got the eel claypot, small. Good size for 1 person for lunch. Flavorful, the bottom of the rich became crunch in the perfect way. I do wish there was more of the eel and would be even better with some starchy vegetables like potatoes and mushrooms would be great too. Overall, worth the experience.. read more

Not recommended. Impolite and rudely! It has few tables so the seats are not sufficient. Therefore, They will try to chase you away while you haven't finished eating. They will also curse you in Chinese in the kitchen(they thought we couldn't understand Chinese language). As for food, the Stir-Fry is average. Soup is bad. The meat in black chicken soup is hard to chew. Price is really expensive. You have to pay them tips thought they provide you very bad service attitude. By the way, Sanitary facilities in the restaurant is narrow and bad! read more

Pretty good claypot rice located on a quiet part of Chinatown. The service is pretty fast and unassuming so don't expect this place to have a lot of high quality service. You also order by phone. On the portion, I do wish there was more protein to rice ratio. read more
This small family owned restaurant really packs a punch of flavor and goodness. Very unassuming place where everything is focused on the food specializing in clay pot rice. Offering a variety of toppings from chick, pork pasty, duck and Chinese sausage. You'll on find one that suits your taste.
