Negative experience with Salon Owner Seunghee Si: complete disregard for boundaries 1. Repeatedly Disrespectful Addressing From my very first visit, despite being a complete stranger, the owner kept calling me "Okkyung-ah" (using informal Korean) just because my name is the same as one of her friends. I am a paying customer with no personal relationship, and I never agreed to or permitted this. Yet, this behavior repeated during every visit. FYI, I already have a designated hairstylist (not the owner, aka the oldest female stylist), so there's absolutely no reason for the owner to interfere or touch me. During my appointment on February 21, 2026, at 10 AM, while I was speaking with my assigned stylist, the owner interrupted and again called me informally, asking "Okkyung, how have you been?" and justified it the same way as before: my name being the same as her friend's. In Korean culture, this is considered extremely rude. After the service, I politely and clearly requested, "Please don't call me like a friend, call me 'Okkyung-ssi' instead." This was a basic boundary request regarding respectful address. The owner attempted to justify ignoring it with references to local culture or personal reasons. I did not observe her using this informal address with any other customers. 2. Lack of Professionalism & Outdated Styling When I first visited, my assigned stylist was unavailable, so I received a short-volume perm ("volume magic") from the owner, who was the least busy at the time. I specifically requested some layers and volume to be added to my short haircut. She ignored my instructions and performed a standard straight perm. I had to endure several months of flat, lifeless hair. This clearly shows a lack of professionalism and disregard for customer preferences. 3. Excessive Physical Contact The more serious issue is unwanted physical contact. During an apology for the repeated informal addressing, the owner tried to hug me. I immediately stated, "I do not consent to physical contact," but she attempted to touch me again. Repeated physical contact after a clear refusal is a violation of personal boundaries. On a previous visit, during chemical application, the owner intervened, causing the chemicals to spill onto my clothes. Despite me repeatedly saying I could handle it myself, she physically touched my upper body and chest to "help" clean it. This was extremely uncomfortable. In the service industry, respecting a customer's boundaries and consent is fundamental. Repeated unwanted physical contact and disrespectful addressing are not minor issues. While I am satisfied with the skills of the assigned stylist (Joy), the owner's constant interference and behavior make every visit uncomfortable. The same stylist had no such issues at a previous salon. 4. Discriminatory Treatment Based on Korean Language Ability From my observation, the owner treats customers differently based on whether they can speak Korean. Customers who can speak Korean are subjected to rudeness, unnecessary chatter, and forced friendliness, whereas customers who cannot speak Korean receive only the necessary service. This is clearly discriminatory behavior toward certain customers. Recommendation: I do not recommend this salon for customers who speak Korean, and especially do not recommend receiving services from Owner Seunghee Si. read more

My husband has been coming here for haircuts and perms so I decided to try it too. I had a general idea of what I wanted but couldn't really explain it well. Somehow Nayeong read my mind and gave me exactly what I wanted, and even better than I imagined. I have very straight hair that never wants to hold any shape but Nayeong absolutely nailed both the perm and the haircut. Even three months later, my hair still has volume and looks amazing whether I follow the curly method or do nothing at all and just let it air-dry. My boyfriend and I both got haircuts here after friends recommended this salon, and were satisfied. I'm pretty sure I got my hair cut by Na Young who seems to really understand my frizzy, textured hair, and opted for long layers after I asked for layers, since my hair would have frizzed up more if she had cut any part of it particularly short. She also didn't cut my curtain bangs too short for the same reason. I think my boyfriend got his cut from Ava and he said she did pretty well too, but it wasn't the best haircut he's ever had. Originally wanted to get a digital perm for more body on my hair (I had called and explained and scheduled) however by the time my hair was washed and I sat down. The stylist told me that because I had naturally wavy hair at the back, it wouldn't be possible to get the big loose waves I wanted. At this point I should've just left but she offered a regular hair cut so I settled for a trim and she did a beautiful job and it would've been 5 stars if this was what I came here for but it wasn't. I have short-medium hair and they charged me 50$ which is the price for long hair cut. I didn't know it at the time until after I paid and tipped extra. I honestly felt a little taken advantage of. My friend brought me here telling me of a low-key hair salon where her favorite stylist, Na-Young, was there at the time we made the reservation. I had the opportunity to get curtain bangs from her and she perfectly met my expectations + the photo I presented her! I came here about three years ago for a haircut and recently visited again with my friend to get our hair permed. There are two hair designers, Seung Hee Si and her daughter, Na Young. They both are very professional, attentive to their customers and friendly. The moment I showed them a couple of pictures of hairstyles I wanted and described how I wanted the hairstyle on me, they quickly scanned my hair condition and were able to tell that I had a multiple hair bleaches. They explained that the result wouldn't be exactly what I wanted due to the severe hair damage. They recommended a couple of other options to make my hair as close as the hairstyle I brought and patiently waited for me to make decisions as there were price differences. I ended up getting "repair" perm which filled in the pores of my hair with protein bonds (so that the hair shaft looks and feels smoother), and proceeded with perms. Na Young told me to come back in a week if the curls don't come out that strong as my previous hair condition wasn't great and I just filled in my hair with a bunch of protein. It looks great as of now, but I'll have to see if it's curly enough after a week. My friend also got her hair permed and I love it so much. Overall: They really take care of their customers and responsible for their hair work. Plus, I can tell that they don't try to rip off their customers like other hair salons do. Rather, they gave me a very straight forward, honest opinion based on the characteristic of my hair, yet are willing to work around the customer's preference. The price is definitely way more reasonable than the ones in Manhattan and they give me what I want. If you are English speaker, you might find them little quiet though as their first languages are Korean. But I think they still get non-korean customers and they come back to their hair salon. I think it's very important that you feel comfortable when you communicate with your hairdresser. As I feel that they understand the hairstyle I want as well as the price is affordable/reasonable, I think I will stick with this hair salon. I called in to get my bangs fixed and I was able to be fit in for an appointment in such short notice. This place is amazing! Went here for a haircut and it came out amazing! I have curly hair which can be a bit difficult to cut, but Seung Hee Si was very friendly and actively listened to what I wanted. She also gave me some great tips about how to best style my hair. The salon itself is very clean and the staff makes sure it's sanitized regularly to meet COVID-19 cleaning standards. I went here for a haircut on Sept 3rd & told Si Sueng the type of style I was going for (long layers & curtain bangs); I showed her some pictures as well & she understood what I wanted right away! The entire experience was very pleasant. My hair went from flat and dead at the ends to bouncy and healthy! I've never seen anyone cut hair so efficiently before. She was very accommodating and kind. Even though there is a slight language barrier, there is enough communication for a wonderful haircut experience. Overall I enjoyed my time here & I love my haircut. For reference, I have hair that's always straight, color treated that's growing out slowly; & it reaches the middle of my back. With the entire wash, cut, blow, and simple curled styling, it came out to $60 before tip. I personally found the pricing reasonable for the overall experience.
