I really like Thai food, I don't have to be "in the mood" for it, I like it pretty much anytime, this spot is not huge but has plenty of seating. Chicken wings are a knock out and the Pad Thai isn't bland or super sticky it is just right and I can eat a quite a bit without sharing. I am a huge lover of papaya salad and they have a really good one here. My husband really enjoys the Tom yum soup and the any of the chicken or duck dishes. Stop off here and have some tasty Thai food- the staff is nice and parking isn't an issue, it is a bit of a drive from home for us, but it is worth the drive every time. read more

The spring rolls were refreshing and had good flavor. The spicy beef noodles were the star of the show. I would reorder. Not too spicy but it just worked. The noodles were chewy and beef cooked well. They are lucky there is no competition around because if Herb's in Brick were near, they would be done The food is mediocre at best Very. Bland Boring. But worse, the service is atrocious. Came here for a wholesome dinner after a great day at the beach, and this place delighted us! The atmosphere is great, the food is even more amazing and all in all it would be a 10/10. I'm giving this a generous 3 star. The yellow coconut milk curry with potato, onion and chicken was my order. The food was filling, quick to the table and hot. Sadly, I noticed the watery curry, very flat (pounded out) chicken and the potatoes were undercooked. Sure, I could eat the potatoes but it wasn't that great. This restaurant is owned by Thai so it was authentic. However, being from New York City I wasn't blown away by the food and it was BYOB which we didn't realize. I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and found it to be a bit greasier than ususal dishes I've had. The portion was very big and there was a fair amount of chicken in it which was a plus. However, my parents ordered a duck dish which was so-so and my dad got a different noodle dish which looked like it was just soaked in siricha sauce. I think for people who don't eat Thai this place would be 4 starts but for me it was ok. read more

Curry, coconut milk, Palm sugar and lemongrass are some common ingredients that make up the Thai cuisine. That much whet my appetite, so off to a Thai restaurant. Being that there two in the area, a decision was made to go to Siam Basil Thai. I am going in here with a positive attitude. Every time I have been here prior , the service has not been up to par though the food has been excellent. The place is small and decorated in an Oriental fashion but not overly dramatic, a basic feng Shui, if you will. Their tables are very small and packed close to each other. ( there's not much intimacy if you're there with a significant other). You basically can hear the conversations of all parties within 2meters. You don't see many children here, so unless your kids are used to this cuisine, avoid bringing them. There are many items from which to choose. The server, wearing a flowered dress, finally came over after I went through the menu 3x. I'll call her Bussaba, since I didn't catch it and was too meek to ask her twice. She was very low-spoken and very gracious. The place was pretty busy, yet again, the service SLOW. I ordered the papaya salad. Excellent. Somewhat spicy the way I like it. If you have a problem with "heat", make sure you ask your server first. A Seafood Curry was also excellent. Very delectable and excites the palate. The tapioca pudding was also excellent. Beef pad thai for lunch was pretty bad. Beef was dry and shriveled up could not chew or swallow it. Noodles were all stuck together and tasteless. The hostess at the front of the restaurant was very rude when I went to pick up my order. Did not acknowledge me standing right in front of her. When I questioned about picking up my order she just points to a shelf. Then I asked a question about making an additional purchase and she was very short with me. I have dined at this restaurant twice within the past month. Both times, a Friday night and a Saturday night, I have found the wait staff to be exceedingly rude and rather curt with the customers. On both nights, the restaurant seemed busy. I noticed there were only two servers for the entire restaurant. The two young servers were primarily dealing with customers, new customers coming into the restaurant and the seated customers, as well as fielding phone orders. They certainly seemed significantly overwhelmed. Unfortunately, their inundation translated into absolutely poor customer interaction. I heard one of the diners at the table closest to me nicely ask one of the servers about the status of one of the dishes they had ordered. The other people at that table had already been served their food and this one person was sitting there puzzled. This particular diner politely asked her again after she seemingly ignored his first inquiry. I nauseatingly heard her say, "It's not going to come out quicker if you keep on asking." There was an instantaneous pause in that table's collective conversation, as they all looked on with bewilderment and indignation. Surprisingly, the "scolded" diner maintained his cool and never responded with any rancor. I was expecting him to say something to the effect of, "Excuse me!" But he was seemingly calm and patiently waited for her to bring out his dish. At no time whatsoever did I notice any apologetic sentiment from this server for such an appalling and unjustifiable comment. Instead, she steadfastly maintained a look of defiance and vexation. Her repulsive conduct actually caused that table to prematurely ask for the bill, despite them not finishing their respective dishes. She unquestionably ruined their dining experience at this restaurant, and, more than likely, their entire evening. Upon leaving, I looked at one of them with outright empathy and subtle sorrow. It is not completely fair to lump this server's conduct with the other's comportment. But, she was the least bit affable or cheery herself. As a direct result of the deplorable and fortuitous behavior by these servers, my family and friends will unquestionably be dining at a new Thai restaurant, despite the fact that we all reside within a few miles of Siam Basil Thai Restaurant. I just read a captivating quotation today, "Rudeness is a means to attract attention, assert power, cover-up ineptitude, deflect personal insecurities and intimidate meeker people." To the owner/owners, this should assuredly be something to think about when hiring servers. read more

Had dinner with friends last night & decided to try Siam Basil after driving past if for years. It's a small place & easy to not notice. This was my first jaunt into Thai food & I was a bit leery. I decided on the Pad Med shrimp in oyster sauce with cashews, onion, scallion, bell peppers & mushrooms. I came out quickly & hot, just like I like. I definitely enjoyed it. Horrible Thai food. I don't mind bankok style because it is everywhere and I really enjoy Thai cuisine. But this place is just plain BAD. Low quality ingredients and inauthentic recipes. Taste is not there I went once and ordered out another time. Needless to say I will not return. It's a shame that places like this exist and ruin Thai food for people who have never tried it. We've been there several times before and previously gave a complementary high rating. Was never disappointed. This time upon arriving at 8:30 PM Friday notice no one in this establishment except a large group that was possibly a private party. Maybe we came too late but 830 on a Friday night doesn't seem too late. The looks we got from the hostess and staff immediately made us feel uncomfortable. Once being seated it took an unusual amount of time for the waitress to come back to take an order as I had to get up and ask the hostess to send her over, she came over with a look of anger. It made both of us feel uncomfortable. We ordered and asked if she could bring us some ice because we like to put a few cubes in the wine and after about 10 minutes I got up again to get ice and she came over with a full pitcher of ice no spoon. Normally they bring it in a glass with a spoon, and she literally dropped the pitcher on the table and walked away with a real attitude. We both noted that we didn't recognize any of the servers or the staff and it seemed to be quite a different atmosphere. Maybe ownership has changed. This was always our go to place for great Thai food. We left our wine on the table and walked out. It was uncomfortable. We knew we could not enjoy ( trust) the meal with the thought in the back of our heads as to "Why are we so despised to be here?" Quite a different culture. Went over to Scarborough Fair and had a great meal. What a difference in service. Let me preface my review by saying that I am not experienced in Thai anything. I've always been hesitant because I don't have the strongest stomach so I never knew how the spices would sit with me. My boyfriend and I wanted something different though, so we tried it. For a Thai virgin, the menu was a bit overwhelming. We ordered chicken satay for an appetizer. YUM. It's chicken on a stick, with what I presume was yellow curry and it comes with an AMAZING peanut sauce. I also ordered an unsweetened iced tea - I think it was jasmine tea, but whatever it was it was very refreshing. Update: it's not Jasmine, but it's yummy. For entrees, I a few options sounded great based on descriptions, but I ended up going with the only thing I had heard of - pad Thai. I got it with chicken. Boyfriend ordered pad kee mao and he wished it was spicier but it was very very good. The pad Thai was lick-the-plate good. It's a huge portion though, so I took half home. We tried the mango sticky rice for dessert. No words - it was absolutely delicious. Divine. Need to learn how to make it. The service was great - welcoming staff and did not intimate me or make me feel stupid for not knowing what anything was. They were very attentive in refilling water and the food came out well-timed. Atmosphere was nice - soft music in the background, cute decor and though a small building, there was enough space to breathe. So the verdict has been made - no more crappy boring Chinese takeout. Really terrible. I wasn't really expecting much going into it but it was really bad. I got the red curry and my husband got the chicken Sam Rod ("crispy chicken with sweet chili sauce and mixed vegetables"). My curry was flavorless, and what felt like room temperature. It was as if they microwaved some frozen veggies with curry sauce. His chicken Sam Rod was literally just fried calamari in chicken form with the frozen stir fry veggies you get from Costco on the side. Made our Thai Iced Coffee and Thai Iced Tea with coconut milk instead and was super delish. Everything was fresh, delicious ! The first time I got take out here two weeks ago, it was fabulous. Both my husband and I enjoyed it very much. We got the glass noodles with shrimp, Pad Woonsen, and the red curry with tofu, Kang Deang Tawhoo. Both were perfectly spicy (note: we both like spicy food - not thai spicy but we do like a good kick) and had a great, authentic flavor (I've been to Thailand so I know what it should taste like!). Tonight, we ordered the exact same thing plus their Tom Ka, coconut chicken soup. And the soup was really lacking in flavor - it did have some heat but the flavors tasted diluted with a strong coconut milk flavor. The noodle dish was unbearably spicy even though we ordered it exactly as last time - medium spicy. It had 5 shrimp in it this time which is more than the 4 we got last week but we could barely eat it. The curry on the other hand was lightly spicy and quite bland like the soup. It felt almost like a totally different chef prepared our meal today compared to Wednesday almost two weeks ago!!! We were totally disappointed. Food was good presentable just enough to fill me up. The place is byob. I went on a Friday about 530pm it filled up just after i sat down as I left people were waiting for my parking spot. They didn't rush you out the service was pleasant. They had culture serving outfits and the decor was cultural to Thailand. I'll def go again. The place I noticed doesn't have s choice of spice so you can either handle it or you can't. I like to have a choice of spice that will probably be the only downside to the restaurant. read more
