Great service, spacious dining area, and very good, tasty food. I haven't had Thai food in years, but I wanted to check out some dinner options near the cherry blossoms at Jackson Park today. There are actually a few Thai restaurants on the same street. So I just chose this one to check out. Great choice! I biked all the way to the cherry blossoms and was walking around, building up an appetite. The variety of dinner specials was great, and I enjoyed the chili beef special. I asked for the main dish to be a bit spicier, and it was still very good. It wasn't overly spicy, so the main dish was enjoyable. The soup of the day was so flavorful. It was the first thing I ate and was very satisfying. It had a great sweet flavor, yet perhaps with some lime juice to give it a good sour complement. I'm from nyc, where we have plenty of amazingg Thai spots, so I'm a harsh critic when it comes to Thai food. For the neighborhood, the food was decent! The owner catered to me both days and he was very nice. I came here 2 nights in a row and did takeout on both occasions. What I got: - Tofu Pad Thai Dinner Special ($17.95): Pad Thai was a 3.5/5 in terms of taste, but overall was a great value! Love the additions of an egg roll, soup, and cucumber salad - which was more like pickled cucumbers. Overall meal was filling! - Tofu Pad Siew ($12.25): 4/5 - I really enjoyed this! It was garlicky and had good flavor. Only downside was that the broccoli was a different variety (American) vs the traditional variation (like Chinese broccoli), but overall flavor was still good. I was served water and was able to use the restroom while I waited for my food. Staff ensures that utensils, sauce, etc are provided for the order. You can also request fortune cookies, which tbh is a bit odd for a Thai spot lol so I honestly think this spot is more Thai-Chinese fusion. I can def see a lot of influence in the cooking. While a place like this doesn't live up to nyc standards, it's a great and friendly Hyde Park neighborhood spot! read more

Tried a few items. Think the chive cake and the roti are pretty good. The duck (boneless) red curry and the ribeye pad kee mao were the best entrees we had. Others were so so. The green curry kinda bland. The red curry had lychee it was pretty interesting. My fav was the pad kee mao. The kana moo krob pork belly was almost all fat soaked in soy sauce so we had a lot of pork belly leftover and just ate the veggies...service wise it wasn't as good. It was super crowded when we went and it seems like the waitress was kinda rushing us and wasn't having it. And when she asked us if we wanted to look into desserts and my friend was answering and she already turned around and walked away before my friend finished talking too. We were a table of 5 and sat down 6:15 and packed everything and left 7:30 so not sure how fast they expect us to finish food cause I think it was a decent length of time for a dinner...not like it's a fast food restaurant. I stopped in today for lunch. Waited quite a while to be seated even though the place was not busy. I ordered the money bag dumplings which were burnt. I'm always suspicious when food comes out too quickly as my meal did. I peeled off the overly crisp dumpling and ate the filling with the sauce provided. The dumpling would have tasted better steamed. The Pad Thai Shrimp came out within five minutes of me ordering. After finishing the dumplings, I was already getting full. So I only ate one shrimp and a bit of the noodles before boxing up the rest to go. The shrimp was a bit tough and the noodles were overcooked. When I tried reheating for dinner a while later, the noodles turned to mush - as did some of the shrimp. The shrimp for sure were spoiled. This is really annoying since the meal with lemonade and tip totaled $50! I absolutely will not be returning. But Siam should absolutely do a better job servicing their customers. read more

Hyde Park's best Thai food, bar none (and it has at least three competitors, two of which are next door!). Consistent flavor, fast service, and a relaxed ambiance that makes it the perfect spot for low stakes get-togethers, impromptu dinners, and takeout on any day but Tuesday. I am so glad we came across Siam - we were in the neighborhood for lunch and got a couple of lunch specials. The soup was clear broth vegetable soup that had a surprising amount of flavor. The eggroll could have had more flavor but it was not greasy and the sauce, sweet and sour I imagine, was great. I'm picky about eggrolls and this one was good. If you got it to go or delivery and ate it way after it was cooked, I imagine it wouldn't be nearly as good. My girl got basil chicken and I got green curry. The basil chicken was incredibly good and the green curry was pretty tasty as well. I've eaten Thai food dozens of times and this was some of the better Thai food I've had, and the spice level was just right. A little hot but entirely doable, I'd say between mild and medium, 2 out of 5 maybe. That being said, it's always better if they ask. The price was so reasonable. Full lunch special for $12. Oh, and the Thai coffee was so good (if you like very sweet and rich Thai coffee), it was like a coffee flavored dessert drink. So I have to say -- I know that the overall star rating is not high but let me tell you, this place is delicious. So my girlfriend and I were walking through the neighborhood to get Thai food. The original place wasn't doing dine in and we passed Siam on the way so we circled back. Siam is doing Thai dishes I personally feel I am not seeing on the average menu. Their version of the spring roll is absolutely tasty. We got the Tom Kai soup which wasn't like we'd ever had before and it was actually better than others but I recognize it was a different version. I am huge fan of Massiman curry and theirs was fire!! I did the beef and it was very tender and just overall had me doing my happy food dance. I was in the Hyde Park Area in Chicago and my dad and I were going to get a deli sandwich and we happened upon this delightful place. I grew up going to restaurants in this area. We were immediately greeted by a member of the waitstaff who promptly seated us. We decided to split a plate, and to add a couple of things and the servings were generous. It was enough for my dad to take a little snack home for tomorrow. We ordered the dinner special and we had chicken fried rice, soup, an egg roll, and a cucumber salad. We also ordered spring roll and everything was delicious and fresh. There was a generous amount of chicken breast, and vegetables. The staff was so friendly and they were very accommodating. I had to fulfill my desire for some quality Chicken Pad Thai, and this spot always delivers! The service is efficient, the food is always prepared well, and the food is a good deal for lunch/dinner options. The chicken was quality, the noodles were just right, and the vegetables were on point. Decent Thai food at a good price, but overall not my favorite Thai place in Hyde Park. Got it delivered in Hyde Park, so I can't speak to how the restaurant is operating/what their COVID policy is, but delivery was very quick and easy, so props for that. Tofu pad thai (and more recently, tofu pad see ew) are my go-to thai food orders, and I use them as a benchmark for comparison. I have to say that the pad thai from Siam Thai was a little underwhelming. Usually, from pad that I expect a sweet, slightly tangy undertone to the flavor, but I didn't get that from the pad thai here, and I think there are better alternatives at some of the other Thai restaurants nearby. The pad see ew was decent, but I felt like the tofu lacked flavor. Lousy customer service! Placed an order over the phone (which itself was frustrating to begin with because person who answered phone was simultaneously taking multiple orders from other folks and not actively listening at taking down order). Was told food would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived 40 minutes later to pick up food. Upon arrival, was told food would be out soon. Afterwards, the front counter was left unattended. Many patrons subsequently arrived to pick up orders, and none were being acknowledged. Some patrons who were dining in got tired of waiting for their checks, so they just got up and left without paying, and staff didn't notice at all! Other patrons lost their patience and left as well. I did too after waiting inside for another 40 minutes. It was infuriating wasting my time without being updated of delays; not a good look to leave customers in the dark. I took my patronage to another Thai establishment in the area; no need to put up with a such utterly unorganized management that lacks basic customer service. read more
