I guess this is a Chicago staple, my husband said his Mom would get food here for the family when they were little and lived in the area. After a frustrating evening, I decided to get Chinese food and I was driving by on the way home. I've driven by multiple times in the 9 months I've lived here so I decided to stop in. I was not expecting a to-go set up, I'm 30-35 minutes away from home so I said oh well. I ordered and waited. I heard someone talking over a wall and I looked and it was like a bar area but it was closed off. Okay. Then a lady walked in after me and went straight to the bar and guy who took my order was friendly and familiar with her. He made sure he closed the area back off. Maybe I'm not a cool kid, I was offered the area and I didn't bother to ask because I felt like I was outside the circle of trust. I waited 15 minutes, got my food and bounced. The reason I gave it 4 stars was the food was really good and the portion sizes were HUGE! I wouldn't go out of my way to go back because there's no seats and I prefer to sit and enjoy my meal. They prepare their food cuisine with fresh vegetables, fruits and meat. They are always courteous and kind to their customers with a suitable response to delivery time. The atmosphere is not appealing once you enter but charming as you proceed inside. When we got there, it was a line of people waiting on carryout (pre pandemic) and a full bar of people, also waiting on food. That immediately stood put to me, I was like damn it's high demand in here. I can't even begin to say enough great things about this place. Let's be super real, the restaurant is definitely dated, but it does have that dark mafia corner vibe to it for sure. This is incredibly charming. Wasn't sure if HOB was operating at dine-in capacity, and let's be completely fair, Chinese food always tastes a little better coming out of one of those foldy boxes. We found this place while looking for a place that served soup. We decided to look for a Chinese restaurant. Around the area using Yelp, we found this place. Each plate looked good enough for 2-3 persons! The main dish was delicious! The Mongolian Beef was soft , tasty, but slightly on the salty side, but not a deal breaker. The Orange Chicken was crisp with a "just-right" sweetness to it. The fried rice was a tad salty, I wish the chef used less Soy Sauce. It was totally noticeable by the color of the fried rice. The Egg Roll also had a weird texture inside, but it was edible. Overall, the main entree was delicious and the portion is plenty. The negatives did not outweigh the positive, so that's why I rated it 4/5. The place smelled of incense, and the aesthetics are subpar. Don't go here for the ambience, go here because you want to eat lots of Chinese food. Pros: Big portions, Delicious Entree Cons: Ambience, Side dish may be a little salty for some (at least at that time, might be different for some).
