It's a breakfast diner that opens early. It is very convenient for the traveler who wants to get an early start. The waitress is friendly, and the coffee was hot and plentiful. What a cute place to get breakfast. We sat outside and it was very breezy. The service was great. Based on the reviews I should of had the breakfast burrito but wasn't that hungry. I had the 66 eggstravganza (2 egg which Were cooked perfectly, two strips of bacon which again was delicious and cook it how I like them, hash browns which were okay, and a few silver dollar sized of their pankixs, which were also good). My husband had the two fer, eggs, bacon and pancakes. The real treat for us was their doggy menu. For a little one we ordered the 4 ounces of beef, in a 2 bowl dish came out a freshly cooked hamburger cut up and kibble with 2 milk bones and a separate dish of water. As a doggy mom whose little one hasn't eaten much on this road trip, this was a godsend. read more

Ok, I rarely leave reviews but if I do, it's only because it was extremely poor or over the top excellent. Thankfully this place was over the top excellent. We pulled off the road wanting ice cream and ended up here for their shakes and some fries. We ended up getting the had rolled chili renos and a burglar with fries and a shake. The place was impeccably clean. We sat at the bar and the staff was very friendly. It wasn't busy and the cooks began to sing in the kitchen. The owner told them not to sing karaoke but i said i didn't mind. Sing on. They brought out some chips and salsa which was obviously freshly made. When the plate of fries came out, it was obvious to me they were hand cut. All the food was fresh, made in house and to order. The prices were modest but Nick the cook, had a vibe happening, the entire staff were friendly, funny and excelled in service. This is what a restaurant should be. The owner, who says he's never been in the restaurant business is slaying it. Good luck to them. I hope this place stays open for a long time. We will be stopping every time we're through here and I will be telling all my friends. This is a must for highway 66 travelers or i40 goers. We can not wait to come back! This place is great. The food is outstanding, the chocolate shake was maybe the best I've had and the service was good. The prices are very reasonable. I have no negatives for this nostalgic diner. We were on a road trip and went to Tucumcari to visit the Route 66 museum only to find it was closed and this was the first place we came across when leaving town. I'm glad we found it. Excellent lunch at a classic cafe! Homemade ranch dressing is always a sign of a great place to eat. The Cobb salad was fresh & Philly cheese stake was perfection. Hubs said the onion rings were the best he's ever had - ditto on the homemade carrot cake. We saw several amazing milkshakes being made. Big menu so there were plenty of choices. One of the fun parts of driving along Route 66 in the southwest is finding places like this. With a dog friendly patio, a designated dog menu, and a well stocked dessert counter, this is definitely a fun place to stop on a road trip. There weren't a lot of vegan friendly options, but most of the vegetarian friendly things can probably just be ordered without cheese to make due. Overall this was a fun stop with very nice waitstaff! Don't forget to check out the big Route 66 monument on the way out of town. read more

Holy cow this place is good!! We stopped in town just to sleep and this was the only breakfast open. We were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was. I highly recommend getting the Christmas burrito so you can experience both of their amazing taste profiles. Also stop by the front pastry display to grab a yummy treat for the road. So on I-40, looking for a place to eat and we came here. This place is either the only place in town or it has awesome food we will see. Okay will after looking at the menu it is on the pricey side for a small town eating place but it is packed. No open seating, be prepared to wait. Again I think my biggest issue is the cost, most places you visit for what they sell are less, but that said, the food is good. Waffle Fries could use all spice or even salt. Maybe since majority of patrons are local they would rather keep things bland. Added some salt for taste. The server did come buy more than once so that was good. Food did take a while but I assume it was because there were so many people. read more

We walked here from our motel while watching the sun rise. We were the only customers when we got there. The service was very fast and friendly. We ordered the smothered burrito and the mountain of taters. The serving sizes were huge! Nice amount of spice, but not unbearable at all. I added homemade sausage to my mountain of taters, but was disappointed to see that there wasn't much sausage at all. We are foodies, so I'd give the overall food 3.5-4 stars out of 5. Wow Amazing service and food!!! The green chili omelette had wonderful flavor and just the right amount of spice. They did not skimp on the quality of ingredients. I also submitted for the homemade biscuit and gravy, DELICIOUS Not too salty and the biscuit was buttery and flaky without being greasy. Absolutely unbelievable food!! My family is from a small town in Kentucky and this little "hole in the wall" restaurant in New Mexico, tasted just like home cooking! The Griddle Bread is AMAZING!! It tastes just like french toast. The eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns were spot on! My sister and I shared the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were golden brown and super fluffy. The gravy with sausage in it was some of the best white gravy I've ever had!!!! We are sad we don't have a Kix on 66 in Kentucky!! 10/10 recommend! read more

The Server had a terrible attitude when ask about the bread that was missing from my meal and the chips that were missing from my husband's fajitas, it was oh well, we're busy.Do you want them now? It was clearly obvious that we were more than halfway done with our meal, and I was really just pointing out that she had not brought everything. I cannot recommend this place at all for the service.If for no other reason. This place was so great! We stopped in for a late breakfast while driving from Amarillo to Albuquerque. Very friendly service with a cool diner vibe. And all the food was fantastic. I tried the grits and the biscuits with sausage gravy along with my egg/sausage scramble, and my husband had chorizo and eggs. We love to support small businesses and we were anxious to try Kix on Rt. 66 on our recent trip through Tucumcari. Reviews were good but we were disappointed. The waitress was great - extremely friendly and kind, but we were not happy with our food or the prices. My green chili relleno omelet had a chili inside that was tough that I could not cut through, let alone chew. That omelet was $12.99. Bread and hashbrowns came with it. My bread choice was biscuit. I was asked if I wanted sausage gravy with that - yes. Green Chili sauce - yes. I was not told there was $1.50 upcharge for the gravy, also $1.50 for the sausage bits in it, AND $1.50 extra to put green chili sauce on the omelet. Wow. $17.99. May have been okay - but the biscuits were small - tasted as it they came in a can. Green chili sauce was thin, not tasty or spicy. The gravy very small - a couple of tablespoons - then extra for sausage crumbles in it?? Not cool and not very tasty besides. Perhaps they were out of biscuits?? An off day?? So I returned the green chili relleno omelet and asked for a bacon omelet. This omelet was fine, nothing special but should have cost less than the relleno omelet which was the most expensive one on the menu. But no, there was not any compensation whatsoever - paid the full $17.99 for what to me was an overpriced and not very tasty breakfast. read more

I'm an avid road tripper and have driven across the country more times than I can count. Usually on my own. I tend to be more of a grab-and-go eater when I'm booking it from coast to coast, placing to-go orders at local spots to eat in the car. Rarely do I actually stop and sit down for a meal when it's just me. Earlier this week, during a drive from North Carolina to Southern California on 1-40, I decided to treat myself to an actual breakfast. I was on the stretch of I-40 between Amarillo and Albuquerque where eateries are few and far between, and many of the ones available seem pretty questionable, according to the Yelp reviews. At least that's the case up until you get near the small town of Tucumcari when Kix on 66 pops onto the radar. Easily accessible from I-40 and located literally on Route 66, Kix is everything you'd want in a "classic road trip stop". There are booths, tables, and counter service available, which means you can feel completely comfortable stopping in whether you're on your own or a group of any size. I was on my own so I had my little badass-solo-road-trip-lady moment sitting at the counter and ordering a mug of black coffee, sipping it while I flipped through the menu. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, and I'm certain if I lived in the area this is one of those places where I would stop in often and gradually try everything over time. For my one Tucumcari morning though, I went with huevos rancheros. They can make it with either red or green sauce, or you can pick both and go with a "Christmas sauce", which is what I opted to do. Completely delicious. The stand out food-wise, though, was 100% the hash browns that came with the order automatically. I'm so grateful for this because I never order hash browns and would have possibly missed out on these crispy-but-not-burnt, seasoned-to-perfection beauties. I'm still sitting here in Los Angeles days later thinking about them, to be honest. They were that good. The service was incredibly quick, even for a sit-down spot, which again makes it great for road-trippers. The servers were incredibly friendly and efficient, even with the restaurant being busy. All in all, truly a picture-perfect example of a quintessential road trip breakfast place. read more
