If your auto mechanic makes a mistake you may end up on the side of the road awaiting a tow, if your bike mechanic makes a mistake, you might die. That's no exaggeration. So when I was directed to Vtwin Thunder Service and Repair by a trusted source to work on my Harley Davidson Road King Classic, I was a bit uneasy. This new acquisition was not comfortable at higher speeds and the customized suspension did not work for me. I was getting tossed outta the saddle on potholes above 50mph and had to resolve some issues related to the slamming of the bike that caused it to bottom out on speedbumps. I was also seeking a quality flagpole bracket for use in flying 3 large, 3'X5' flags behind the motorcycle during patriotic holidays, events and Patriot Guard Riders missions. Jim listen to all my concerns and did a deep dive into the Harley. Two days later I have everything I wanted and more. Changed out the shocks, installed removable Rivco hardware to fly the flags and I am 100% satisfied. I was told the tires would arrive in about 3 days, but it ended up taking approximately two weeks. I ultimately paid $912.75 for the tires, tire installation, tube, and related charges. When I picked up the motorcycle, the shop had spent about two hours working on it and told me they had also adjusted the clutch, checked the fluids, and made sure the motorcycle was running properly. However, as soon as I started riding home, the motorcycle felt noticeably different and did not feel right. The next morning, the motorcycle would not start, and I found gasoline coming from the exhaust area. I had to take it to another mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic found serious issues with the motorcycle, including a major fuel/carburetor problem and a coolant leak, and I was told the carburetor needed to be replaced. I am now facing another $700+ in repair costs, in addition to the $912.75 I already paid. What disappointed me the most was how the situation was handled. When I contacted Bill's, they told me they were not responsible because their job was only the tires. They also told me that the problem was my fault because I left the motorcycle's fuel control on. Rather than helping investigate what happened, I felt that the responsibility was immediately placed on me. I understand that a mechanical problem can sometimes be unrelated to previous service, and that is why I am having another mechanic properly diagnose the motorcycle. However, the fact that these problems appeared immediately after I picked up the motorcycle and that I am now facing significant additional expenses is extremely frustrating. I have receipts documenting the $912.75 payment and the work performed. I am disappointed with both the experience and the way my concerns were handled. I am now pursuing other options to determine what happened and whether I can recover some of these costs.
