Driving from Oklahoma City to Maryland sounds absolutely insane (because it kind of is), so when we…read morefound ourselves passing through Memphis around lunchtime, I turned to my trusted Yelp experts to help us find a local gem. Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.

A step inside at the same time the counter guy hollered back to let the cooks know a graduation was about to begin so "expect to be busy soon" confirmed that fact! You order at the counter and are given a number for your table and your food is delivered with a smile and some casual southern hospitality banter. This place is quirky with its decor but on point with the food. Get the bacon! Always get the bacon! I'm still dreaming about it! Be warned! We were told during busy times, the line stretches around the building for a steady 8hrs at a time! May the timing of your visit ever be in your favor!

The food and coffee was so delicious. I wouldn't say I'm a food snob, but I'm particular about breakfast foods, and this made me very happy. We each ordered a coffee and the bacon potatoes to share. I ordered the Juniper Benedict and my friend ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy. The bacon potatoes were cooked perfectly, soft and slightly crunchy with plenty of cheese and bacon. The eggs in my eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and they used a regular house-made biscuit that soaked up the egg yolks perfectly. The restaurant was pretty big, but the ambiance felt like a small-town diner. The staff was super kind and attentive, too. The cost is par for the course for a nice diner in a big city. TLDR: Not a bad word to say about this place.

Plenty of indoor seating including the bar area. There are a few tables for outdoor seating as well. Plenty of parking. Hostess seated me. The menu was front and back simple with breakfast items and small section for lunch. Breakfast is their main menu meal. I had coffee and ordered the Belgian waffle that came with fruit and whip topping. The coffee was piping hot anso delicious you can drink it straight. The waffle looked good just was not hot and skimpy on the fruit and whipped topping. It had a nice crispy taste and flavor and was really good just not hot when it arrived. Caroline was my waitress and she had such a pleasant smile and disposition. A very personal person. The way she took care of her customers you could tell she enjoyed her job. She brought me my bill and there was a Big Bad Breakfast postcard attached. Nice touch. Excellent service. I got a coffee to go and it was hot and freshly brewed. The tables were cleaned after each customer, sprayed down, chairs pushed in , tables straightened and fresh silverware placed. Check the time before you go but this is a great place to eat.

I had looked over the menu online so I had set my mind on ordering a half chicken but he informed me they no longer offered it. I looked over the menu again and I decided on ordering the chicken salad waffle sandwich and it came with chips and fruit. My sister had the order of chicken wings and we got a side of mac and cheese, two drinks, and a slice of cheesecake. We sat down and waited for our food. It didn't take too long for it to be ready and the very friendly employee brought it to our table. The chicken sandwich was pretty good but it got soggy very fast so it got messy as the waffle kept crumbling. The chicken breast itself tasted really good and the sandwich was stuffed. The fruit was fresh and sweet. The chicken wings were the best ones we've had in a minute! They were juicy, crispy. and full of flavor. The mac and cheese was also delicious. It was hot and cheesy. We decided to eat the cheesecake back in the room since we were super stuffed after we ate all our food. I quickly noticed that it smelled funky as I opened it and it had an overpowering cheese smell. My sister took her first bite and she made a disgusted face. I then proceeded to try it and I did not like it one bit. It definitely did not taste like regular cheesecake or to what we are used to. This was not good. Overall our dinner was good and the service was great. Both guys that were working were friendly and provided great service. I would so come back for some more chicken wings and mac and cheese! Try them out!!
