Scan the barcode at the kiosk and two papers printout. 1 with all the Vehicle info you entered and 1 with your contact info for prospective buyers. I also put my truck on Facebook Market place with Sierra Auto Fair's location. I had 6 inquires in the 1st 3 hours. 3 of which were low ballers. The last call was a serious buyer and wanted to give her for a test drive. After the test drive he made a strong offer and I sold it. It was only on the lot 1/2 a day, he saw my truck on Facebook. This is the 6th vehicle I've sold there over the years. I sold a boat and motorcycle there too. Don't trade in your vehicle and LOOSE Thousands of $. Clean up your rig, check Kelley Blue Book and set a fair price for it's condition. Lots of buyers are walking the lot looking for good deals. I would highly recommend Sierra Auto Fair. read more

I sold my van on a weekend when it was raining. I almost did not bring it to Sierra Auto Fair because I did not think people would be out buying cars, but I really wanted the car out of my garage. That weekend, I sold it to a very nice gentleman for full asking price. I bring this up because every other offer I got, which were about 4/5 others, haggled big time on price. I thought the price I set was fair considering relative high mileage on the car, however, some people acted like they should get a close to brand new car for around $3000. Also don't be surprised when people are critical of your car and maintenance (which was BS because I was the only owner and had maintenance records on the vehicle). I think they are just looking for any rational to low-ball you. The staff at Sierra Auto Fair was helpful and friendly, they talked to one person who wanted to look at my car the minute I pulled in. It was distracting to have someone ask a lot of questions when you have not checked in and are unfamiliar with the check in process, and the staff told the person that they have gotten complaints about that type of behavior. It was quite an adventure for me but worth getting more money compared to a trade in, and I would do it again, probably will do it for my dad's car. read more

I used Sierra College Auto Fair to sell my 2001 Celica. Registering online made the process of dropping off the car very easy and the signage and instructions were very clear. Having the attendants able to let potential buyers see the interior and start the car weeded out those who were not seriously interested so I didn't get a large volume of calls. I priced the car using Kelly Blue Book range. I received an offer 15% under asking before I left the lot but decided to wait to see how the rest of the weekend went. By Sunday, I had 3 serious offers closer to asking price and was finally able to get full asking price. Auto Fair does not recommend pricing without some wiggle room as buyers expect to offer less. From my experience I would agree but I had already set the price at a fair point before I read this and got lucky because I had several very motivated buyers. Take the time to clean your car up, price it fairly and don't be afraid to take reasonable offers pending a better one with sale going to the best one on Sunday. I would recommend using Sierra Auto Fair to sell your car and to use reliable sources to decide on a price point. read more

I have been both a buyer and a seller here and it is THE BEST! It's an easy way to sell a car and, at least in my experience, cars sell quickly as they have a ton of customers looking. On the buying side it is like CarMax but with much better prices. You can look at a huge selection of vehicles every weekend and always seems like a new variety and often some rare gems. I always have high hopes for this place but so far no luck. We were searching for a older model car 2008 to 2010 with lower mileage for about 5k to 6k. Seemed like most the cars in this price range were priced high for bargaining. I'd rather have the price be the price they'd actually sell for because it made me not even test drive anything. Super easy registration process. Was able to add the vehicle and some information about the condition which made the potential buyers aware before even looking inside. All the signs were ready for me when I arrived and easy to attach. The staff was super helpful and guided me directly to where I was leaving the vehicle. I came to the Sierra Auto Fair a few weekends ago to sell my much loved 2003 Ford Focus ZX3. My Husband wasn't comfortable with me listing the car on Craigslist, so John H. suggested bringing it to Sierra Auto Fair to sell because he had some luck with a car he previously sold there. I was able to preregister online by entering all my information, the cars information, and a description. It's $44.00 per weekend and most cars sell in one or two weekends. You drop your car off on Friday night after 4:00pm and pick it up on Sunday evening. They also have security on hand all weekend to make sure your car is safe. I drove into the lot around 5:30pm on a Friday evening and parked in one of the spots in the front to print out my tags. I was surprised how full the lot already was! I guess they are right; there isn't a bad weekend. Printing my tags was easy, I got a keychain to put my key on, tear off tags for my window, and I was supposed to get a piece of paper with a description of my car as well, but it never printed out. I went back to my car anyways to put what I had on the window and was already being solicited by a family wanting to test drive the car. So without even officially parking at the auto fair, I went on the test drive with this family and sold my car. BOOM. I wasn't aware that in California you have to have a SMOG Cert done within the last 90 days before selling your car, so I got the SMOG test done the next day before handing over the vehicle. I will definitely recommend Sierra Auto Fair to anyone looking to sell a vehicle. read more

This is From a SELLERS perspective. My experience when I dropped off my car on the lot Friday night started rocky when a "vulture" buyer wanted to buy my car on the spot. I would like to let everyone know NOT to sell your car to these people hanging around the lot at night. Not only will they be super pushy with you, but they will push you to low ball your asking price. My advice is to wait till Saturday/Sunday afternoon to see what other buyers want for your car. Plus, it's just safer to deal with people in the light of day with others around. The process is pretty easy to get your paper work done to get your car on the lot, especially if you do it all online and print it out when you get there. This was a painless process!! I brought the car on Friday and it was sold by 12:00 pm the next day. I started receiving calls and text's on Saturday morning from 4 people. The only people who contacted me were people who were real buyers with cash in hand and the negotiations were so much easier by phone and text. In the end, I got just what I expected and wanted from my trusty and beloved car. So all I had to do is drive back to meet the buyer, take a test drive, do the paperwork and count my money. GOOD EXPERIENCE! First time users at Sierra College Auto Fair. We took our car out on Friday evening, and it was sold on Sunday morning. The car was priced for a 100 bucks above the blue book's value. We met a great couple and a young lady. It turns out that they are an uncle and aunt helping their niece to look for a car commuting to a college. They are well mannered and polite. They took the car out for a few blocks. They liked it and we liked them so we decided to knock off a few hundred bucks for them. It was a good day for both parties. The buyer got a good deal and we are happy to see that the nice couple has found a reliable car for their niece. The Sierra College folks are courteous and competent. Joe seems just a tad jaded against the whole experience, so I thought I would offer an alternative review. I just went there to check it out. It's free, which is nice, and there are no salesmen, which is double nice. You can look at the cars, and go get the key from the booth if you want to look inside of it. The cars are decent, and the weekend that I went there weren't a ton of cars on display. I don't know if it is normally good. I really don't think they're grossly overpriced though. Of course you should do your homework, duh. But I don't think the prices are more than you would pay at a used car lot. At the end of the day, if you don't do your homework, you're going to get taken for a ride (pardon the pun) no matter where you buy your vehicle from. read more

This year I have sold 2 cars and purchased 1. The first car I sold took a total of (4) visitors from Craigslist posts for whom I had to make special trips to meet, and mostly wasted my time with offers of half the cars actual value. The second time I attempted to sell my car, I posted it on Craigslist for the KBB value, expecting much less because I knew from my previous experience that most people looking to buy on CL are going to offer considerably less. Problem was, no one called. I reposted every 3 days for 4 weeks, and still, no one called. At this point the car was collecting dust, so I thought I'd at least give it a shot at the Sierra Auto Fair. They've clearly spent a great deal of time making the process as simple as possible for the seller. The website glides you through the registration process relatively quickly and easily, requesting basic information so that the seller can retrieve a print out sales sheet to attach to the vehicles window, keeping everything neat and clean for the potential buyer to review. Also, if you don't know where to go once you arrive at the lot, there is clear signage EVERYWHERE instructing you on where to check in, where to park, how to communicate with buyers, etc.,. In summary, I parked the car there on a Friday evening, listing it for the same amount as I did on CL. On Saturday morning I answered a call from a potential buyer and I told him that I'd be happy to come out to meet him if he was interested. After a test drive, the buyer offered the amount I had pre-determined was fair, and we completed the paperwork. In summary: By using the auto fair, I didn't need to take pictures and waste a bunch of my time meeting people to look at the car. When people were interested, one of the auto fair employees would open the vehicle and let the potential buyer look over the car before they called me, which obviously cut out a bunch of looky-Lou's... The car sold for the amount I expected within 20 hours of parking on the lot, after at least 4 posts on CL over a 3-4 week period. My recommendation: Try it for yourself. You CAN'T lose. read more

I have to go against the grain a bit from all the positive reviews. It looks like they mostly come from sellers, which is fine, but as a prospective buyer, I was disappointed. I went looking for a car in the $2000 - $3500 price range for an 18-year-old new driver. I wanted to find something that was in good condition, less than 15 years old, with under 130,000 miles on it. I can find those cars all day long on Craigslist, but heard about this auto fair and wanted to check it out, just to see. I figured I could see a lot of cars quickly, in person, and you just really never know what you're going to find. Sometimes in these situations something jumps out at you that you hadn't considered. In this particular case, on a nice weekend in January (specifically 2:30pm on Saturday, 1/6/18), what I found was about 200 cars, give or take, many of which were nice cars. I can't speak to the value of all the ones over $7000 or so, because I haven't been looking at those, but almost all the ones under that were way overpriced. I know this isn't a reflection of the auto fair itself, as the owners are the ones who set the prices, but it seemed to me that almost every owner was asking for top price for their car. I mean, I get it - I'd want as much money as I could get, too, and I know that these prices are negotiable - but the prices seemed so far out above value that you'd have to knock off $1000 - $2000 just to get it in line. Anyway, it wasn't a complete waste of time, because now I can say that I've been there, and I'll no longer think that I might be missing something as a buyer, but I'm not going to go out there again in the hopes of finding a good deal on a used vehicle. On the bright side, there was no hassle and you were free to walk around unbothered. All of the cars were locked, so you couldn't open them up for a closer look unless you asked for help. I guess that makes sense, but I was under the impression I could just open them up and look. Nope. That said, I suppose if you're trying to sell a vehicle, that's a great place to do it, as there were probably 50-100 people there at the same time I was, so your vehicle would certainly get a lot of views. Maybe when it comes time to sell my old Tahoe, I'll take it there and ask for way more than it's worth. If it sells, I'll be sure to come back and edit my review. LOL! read more

From a buyers perspective, this is a great place to look at cars for sale by owners. It sure beats Craigslist and the dealer lots for used cars! Inventory varies because it's up to the sellers to bring their car there. At one time a seller put their "salvaged title" car there, but I'm sure it was removed once it was brought it to someones attention. Some cars are over priced. Some are below KBB value. It all depends on the seller. I've learned that if you are serious about buying a car, go early and look around. Do your research too . If you decide to buy the car, contact the seller right away. Have driven by the Auto Fair several times over the years, but this was the 1st time selling at the Auto Fair. I had 2 vehicles to sell. Easy sign-up on the internet. Showed up at 4pm on Friday and parked the RV in the trailer area and then parked the car on the auto area. 5 minutes later walked back to the RV to start setting up and a family was already waiting & asking questions. Sold in 5 minutes! The car was sold the next morning. I was amazed on the 100's of buyers roaming the lot on Saturday and appeared that lots of vehicles were being test driven and sold. I was thinking of putting my car in this auto fair, but was worried that it's been raining every weekend. I reached out to ask if their policy might include a free or discounted additional weekend if it was rained out. The response was very condescending - they said the weather was addressed throughout the website that I had been on (never saw any reference to weather). So I guess that's their way of saying "what a stupid question". They claimed rainy days were the best and that I should not put the car there if I was going to blame them for it not selling. I can only speak from one selling experience but I was very impressed with the organization and professionalism of the Auto Fair. All the materials you need were provided and the web site is full of valuable selling suggestions. My car sold by 3 pm on Saturday and the entire experience was far more pleasant and efficient than Craigslist or Cars.com (Cars.com is a stupid waste of money. I paid more on Cars.com and didn't get one qualified lead over three weeks). The $39 I spent to sell the car at the Auto Fair was an incredible bargain. Here are four things every seller using the Auto Fair should know and do: 1. Get the vehicle looking its best and remove all personal items. Spend a few dollars on professional detailing. You'll get it back in a better price and faster sale. 2. Have the car ready to go. That means having a passing smog certificate and your pink slip on-hand before you show the car. 3. Price it right. Even the blue book private vehicle price may be a little over-market. I priced mine about 3% lower than KBB and negotiated a little below that. 4. Ignore the vultures that go around the lot Friday night and early Saturday with low-ball offers. These are dealers. or dealer's agents, looking to take advantage of naive and anxious sellers. This is NOT your customer. Whatever the price is they offer, you can probably get that by just driving into any reputable used car lot now (or CarMax if it's a newer car). You can always get their number and call them back on Sunday or Monday if your car doesn't sell. Be pleasant to them though - they're just trying to make a living. After using once as a seller, I wouldn't hesitate now going to the Auto Fair to buy a car. read more

Keep in mind that I'm writing this review as a BUYER. A seller might have an entirely different experience. According to their website, this auto fair has been around since 1997. Private sellers pay a small fee, about $39 for a weekend to park their car in the parking lot of Sierra College. Over the course of a weekend, buyers like myself will come and look at the cars for sale by private owners. The cars all have a descriptive info sheet taped to their windows giving the the year, make, model, mileage and price. There is also a little phone number tear off sheet on each vehicle that has the owners phone number on it. If you like the car and are interested in calling the owner, you just tear off the phone number and call the owner and try and make your deal. Some of the cars can be opened and started up with staff assistance of course. First and foremost I will tell you that if you're looking for a well priced vehicle at this fair, then you will be quite disappointed. All of the vehicles I looked at were priced at high KBB pricing or higher. Most were so highly priced that negotiations with the owner seemed to be a waste of time to me. I'm quite familiar with used car pricing in our current market and the owners who sell their cars at the fair seem to be out of touch. I'm sure plenty of owners have sold their vehicles at this fair, but I would imagine most were to uneducated or naive buyers who don't realize that the same vehicle can be had for a lot cheaper on Craigslist with a little homework. Some of the crazy prices I saw there were a 1997 Lexus ES300 with 76000 miles and in "Good Condition". Seller was asking $9100. KBB is only $7950. The other one that stuck out was a 2001 Honda Accord 4dr EX w/leather, V6. Car had 93000 miles and was in good condition. Owner was asking $11000 and KBB price is $9435. I felt like I was on a used car lot that was asking full retail instead of looking at private party cars. The sad thing was that both cars had numerous phone numbers missing from the tear off sheets. Hey, when I go to sell a car, this might be the place. Lots of naive buyers. Hey, this might be a good place to find a car if you're lazy and are not interested in doing a little research to save money. Maybe you have a money tree growing in your backyard? I don't and the last thing I want to do is pay to much for an expensive depreciating asset like a car. I'm steering clear of the Sierra Auto Fair as a buyer. read more
