This is about the taylorsville Location I am absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated at the Taylorsville store today. I stopped in with a backpack that I had purchased from another location because I found the exact same model in a color I actually wanted. I had my receipt, the backpack was in like-new condition, and I was simply trying to complete a straightforward exchange. Instead, I was told that I could not exchange the bag because of a missing accessory that the backpack never came with in the first place. After being refused service, I contacted the American Fork store where the backpack was originally purchased. They immediately informed me that there should have been no issue handling the exchange and apologized for the situation. Because the Taylorsville store refused to help, I was forced to drive nearly 40 minutes to American Fork just to complete a return that should have been handled at the location I was standing in. What should have been a five-minute transaction turned into well over an hour and a half of driving, wasted gas, and completely unnecessary inconvenience because employees at the Taylorsville store either did not understand their own policies or simply chose not to help. The behavior of the manager, who I believe was named Jennifer, only made the situation worse. From the moment I walked in, I felt judged and treated as though I had done something wrong. She repeatedly looked my girlfriend and me up and down and carried herself with an attitude that was dismissive, confrontational, and unprofessional. Rather than attempting to help resolve the issue, I was made to feel like a problem the moment I entered the store. What happened next was even more unacceptable. After making the unnecessary trip to American Fork and obtaining store credit, I returned to the Taylorsville location to purchase the backpack I originally wanted. The moment I walked through the door, I was immediately approached and questioned again. Before I could even explain why I was there, employees were discussing me over their radios. I could hear Jennifer talking about how I could not return items and questioning whether pieces were missing. At that point I felt like I was being treated as a thief, a scammer, or someone attempting to do something dishonest despite having receipts, documentation, and following every instruction that had been given to me. No customer should be made to feel attacked, singled out, or publicly scrutinized simply for trying to exchange or purchase merchandise. I felt targeted from the moment I entered the store. Based on the way I was approached, watched, questioned, and discussed over the radio, I cannot ignore the feeling that my appearance, alternative style, and skin color played a role in how I was treated. Whether intentional or not, the experience felt like profiling and discrimination rather than customer service. To make matters even worse, the store credit card issued by the American Fork location did not work. Instead of fixing the issue, I was told I would have to drive all the way back to American Fork yet again. By this point, your company's mistakes had already cost me significant time, fuel, and frustration, and now I was being told to make another unnecessary trip because nobody could resolve the problem at the Taylorsville location. I have never experienced customer service this hostile, accusatory, and unprofessional over something as simple as exchanging a backpack. What should have been a routine transaction became an exhausting ordeal that consumed hours of my day because of poor communication, poor management, and a complete lack of respect for a paying customer. I expect this incident to be investigated, I expect management to be held accountable, and I expect to be contacted regarding how your company intends to address the time, expense, and treatment I was subjected to. Purchased a camping mug two days ago. Filled it with a beverage. The gasket/seal failed and the contents leaked onto my clothing. Took it back. The manager on duty said that they can't exchange it because it has been used. The Sierra website says that in the event of a defective item, contact them and they will "make it right." Evidently, at the Sierra in Riverton, "make it right" means not standing behind the products they sell or treating people fairly. I have spent hundreds of dollars at Sierra this year. They just lost a customer, all over a $13 mug. I will be sure to pass along Sierra's definition of "make it right" to as many people as possible. read more

I have enjoyed shopping at Sierra for so many years. They used to be called Sierra Trading Post and had amazing coupons. The store has changed but is still one of my favorites to visit both in person and online. This location is in a busy shopping plaza and is always fun to stop in and see what new items they have. Most of their products are geared towards people who enjoy the outdoors. They have a large area for pet supplies and toys which I love to frequent. I also usually find some other great deals throughout the store. Great place to browse and find outdoor gear from previous seasons at a discounted price. read more

This location is stuffed with merchandise, so much that things are falling off the shelves. They do have great deals on outdoor supplies and clothes. Our visit today was unfortunate when we were met with a cashier that absolutely did not want to be there. She had no enthusiasm, did not ask if we found everything we needed, gave no sales pitch, just told us our total and that was it. Bummer because I usually love going to the register and talking to the employees. My boyfriend in the past also had a terrible interaction shopping online and trying to return to the store. read more

The store started as an online & catalog outdoorsy distributor of past year & overstocked amazing deal great brand stuff!! Think of it as REI but half the price. This place used to give great coupons and amazing deals... but since TJ Maxx bought it out it's become more expensive and the brands aren't as great. The storefronts apparently cost too much and now the deals are no longer as great and the coupons disappeared!!! I've been shopping here for many many years, but don't shop as much now. In the last year, I've become a bit of a gym rat. I don't say that in a braggy way or anything. I'm not a cool, super-fit person, I'm simply there a lot. And let's be honest. Exercising sucks. What doesn't suck? Shopping for new clothes! Now, you might be thinking it's odd to mention that on a Sierra Trading Post review (from here on out we are going with STP 'cause I'm too lazy to continue typing the full name), and that, my friends, is the great thing here. No one thinks to shop for clothes at STP. It's an outdoor goods store. And yes, they've got a fantastic assortment of anything you could require for camping, hiking, fishing, running, or whatever other sports you're into. BUT they also have a gigantic section of clothing. Lots of which is outdoorsy stuff sure, but even more is just plain activewear or (shudder) athleisure, many of which are genuinely high quality brands. I'm talking Koral, Blanc Noir, Splendid, Free People, etc. $100+ leggings for $20 or less. Super cute sports bras for $10. Because no one thinks to buy those items at STP, you get a ridiculously awesome selection all to yourself. And to get back to the gym thing, when I really don't want to go, I buy myself a new outfit here and suddenly it doesn't seem so bad. Yes, I am a stereotypical girl, but I will take motivation in whatever form I can muster. I have purchased some other great things here, too. A water purifier, pool toys, running socks, dog toys and treats, citronella candles, even laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies. They are part of the Home Goods/Marshalls/TJMaxx family, so while it is technically an outdoor/sporting goods store, you never know what you'll find here. You have to be willing to do some digging, but you will generally be rewarded with treasures. Also, If you sign up for their emails they send a 25% off coupon every Friday for any regular priced items purchased via their website. I absolutely adore Sierra Trading Post and I've been an online customer for many years. This is a brick and mortar version of the online discounter and it's just okay. For starters, the physical store focuses on shoes, clothing, pet items and outdoorsy stuff. Online you can find an amazing selection of housewares, of which I saw none in the store. This is a great place to come to try on shoes or clothes, but I recommend you purchase them online instead of in store. Also, if you are an online shopper STP sends amazing coupon deals every week (sometimes twice a day)! This means that you'll get a far better deal and cheaper price if you order and ship online. You can order online and pick up at the store to save on shipping, which makes it an even better deal. I found the in-store prices to be a lot higher than online prices for the exact same item, so do your research. This new outpost is very clean and well organized. It's fully staffed with very friendly employees too. Everything about the shopping experience is great, I just wish the prices and deals were are amazing as they are on their website. read more

My wife stopped in here a few months ago and loved it so when we were passing through slc we stopped in again. I've been to the one in Cheyenne and this one is smaller and newer but has good deals. They have quite a bit on the clearance racks, which is my go to area. They also have cycling clothes which were about 50% off the retail price. We ended up picking up some clothes and some flip flops. This will definitely be a stop for us when we are in the area. read more

I have shopped at the online Sierra Trading post for years and am a loyal fan. Great prices and great products. This brick and mortar location though has been TERRIBLE to work with. I live out of state, but knew I would be in cottonwood heights for work so I placed two orders online for in store pickup here hoping to avoid shipping costs and get items faster. I went to pick up and was only given one of the orders. I didn't realize it till I was back home (in Idaho). I called in and after back and forth of them not finding the order then finally finding it, I was told it had been labeled under the wrong name. They said I could return it or they could hold it until I was back in town. I asked them to hold it since one of the items in the order was out of stock online and this was my only way to get the item. They said they could and I was grateful. A few weeks later the item I wanted - a specific pair of trail running shoes - was back in stock in my size online. I ordered them and just paid the shipping to my house so I could have them sooner. I called into the store to have the order on hold returned and the employee (Zeke) told me to call corporate customer service and that they could not help me with an order sitting in their store that I needed returned. I called corporate and they told me they couldn't help and the store would have to help. I called the store back and Bobby picked up. I tried explaining the situation to him and he frustratedly asked for "just an order number and name" so I gave them to him and he said he couldn't find the order. I reexplained the situation and asked again for him to check but under the other name the order was incorrectly placed under. He found the order in the back and then told me that they were too busy for him to return it and help me and said he would call me later and hung up hurriedly. That left me extremely frustrated but I decided to let it go and call on a different day and hopefully get a kinder employee. Bobby called me back 30ish minutes later and said that he returned the item. I asked for a receipt of return or some confirmation since this whole thing had been such a headache and I did not want to have another mess to figure out if my card was never credited back the money. He said he would sent it to me. I then got a text from his PERSONAL cell phone number with cell phone pictures of the order box and receipt including my name, phone number, and address. This has to violate like a million personal data privacy and GDPR laws. I didn't find their prices were much of a discount, but I was able to find a pair of hiking pants I have been looking for. We came here around mid December to do some Christmas shopping. The parking lot was iffy on a Saturday, really crowded with a lot of other places in the strip mall type area. Trader hoes right next door. We found some pretty good deals. I am slightly unfamiliar with the brands often used for outdoor activities, so some of the items still seemed expensive to me, but if you know what you're looking for and are familiar with what other places price their items at, I've heard it's a pretty good deal. There is quite the assortment of shoes, socks, jackets/coats, activewear, etc. Be prepared and ready to search, you need to be in the mood to push through each item on the rack to find something great. Definitely geared towards the outdoor crowd. The vibe that I got was kind of like Cabelas. We found a few items we were pleased with. I got some snow boots that seem to be good quality for $20. I looked into many other things like gloves and hats. The checkout process was simple and easy. I think it's cool that you can just have your receipt emailed or texted to you. Especially I'm sure that would be useful if you needed to return something so you don't have to keep track of that thin paper receipt. 4 stars because I feel like some improvements could be made, but I have no real complaints. read more

Several friends recommended I visit Sierra Trading Post while I was in SLC so I took advantage of the opportunity. The store was laid out nicely and there were lots of great camping supplies prettily strewn on circular displays. I felt really comfortable when I walked in, as if I'd walked into an REI. This, however, was no REI! My son and I needed help finding climbing shoes. It took quite awhile to find someone to help us and when we did, the employee quickly walked us to the section, pointed, and walked away. We weren't quite sure where he was pointing until we noticed some disheveled, dented boxes on a bottom row. There were about 20 (men's and women's combined) unorganized options of various sizes that looked as if they'd been returned by previous customers. Eventually, we found another subset of climbing shoes across the aisle that were equally disheveled. Our next quest was for gaiters. Again, I struggled to find help and when I did, I was told they no longer carry gaiters. This was quite a surprise given that SLC is a great place for hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing. I was really disappointed because we'd driven a long way for what proved to be a bad purchasing and customer experience. Order online.. you will thank yourself. read more

Nice selection, but not much stuff on clearance. They had two tiny clearance racks, each one arm-span wide, and that was it for the clearance sections! The clearance stuff is fine, and it's great that you can try on climbing shoes or pants before buying them, but the prices aren't really better than you'd get online at backcountry or moosejaw. I'll still take buy things at the place I tried them on because I want to send money their way, but it's not a super amazing deal. A lot of their electronics are a bad idea. For example, they had the 80 lumen Petzl Tikkina lamp for $14. But that's the last generation -- the new one is 150 lumens and you can get it for... $14. Their discounts on clothes are ok because clothes don't evolve that quickly, but lamps get better so quickly that a last-generation lamp needs a much larger discount. I'm happy this place exists, but most of the stuff is non-clearance, which means that it's about the same deal you'd get on the sale rack at an REI. read more

Lots of good stuff for all active people! I went in to check it out on their opening day and ended up getting some shoes for the hubby at a really good price. Definitely will be coming back to check out all merchandise! While checking out, I chose to have a receipt emailed to me. I went to the restrooms afterwards and thought about my receipt, and how would the hubby exchange the shoes if they didn't fit. I checked my email and hadn't received anything yet. I went up to the register and asked one of the many staffers if I could have my receipt printed as well. Even though some looked like they didn't know how to do it, they found the right person to help me. I walked out of the store with a receipt and feeling good. Some of the security tags were left on accidentally but they were quick to remove it after I "beeped" at the exit. Overall a very pleasant experience. Come check out the store! The girls at the registers need a serious lesson in customer service. My husband and I were next, and Anna just put her hand up. Didn't smile or call us over. When we walked up, she didn't say hi. And then once we said hi and asked her how she was doing, she finally talked to us. Still no smile. She must seriously hate her job. This is the usual here. No one is very happy or cares about you as the customer. It sucks because we'd probably come here more if people were nicer. If that's something you care about, go to Backcountry. I take back everything nice I ever said about this place! I've been shopping here for years and They just changed their return policy (without notifying anyone). I brought back some items within what used to be the return window and they would not Take them back or even give me credit. I just lost hundreds of dollars! I was visiting the Salt Lake City area from Chicagoland and shopped at the Cottonwood Heights, UT location of Sierra Trading Post on Monday, 10/09/2017. The store was clean, fully stocked with quality products, and had friendly and helpful employees. Jessica and Jake were especially helpful during my visit. I am disappointed I do not have a Sierra Trading Post location within driving distance of my home but also thankful because I would spend way too much money with how much I loved this store! read more

I heard a rumor last year that STP was opening a brick and mortar store in the SLC area. I knew that this would be dangerous for me since I admit to being an outdoor gear addict and always love a good deal. This store is AWESOME and is an interesting concept because it is basically a very nice, clean, well-lit, well-organized TJ Maxx for outdoor gear (TJX is in fact STP's parent company) but they have aimed to make this more of a normal sportshop with multiple sizes of a product instead of a "grab-bag" of whatever is leftover. Don't get me wrong though--it is a great collection of overstock, closeout, usually first-quality items, but they have sent multiple sizes of an item so that it feels more like a regular store. So as to if you are going to go there and treat it like an outdoor gear store you will likely be happy. You may find that they only have one or two choices for an item and may not have all the sizes you need. The prices are very good to start--usually a modest discount off MSRP. But that is where things begin. Obviously part of the business plan is to integrate their enormous discount website with the brick and mortar store. So now you can order even the smallest order ONLINE and pick it up at the store for FREE. You can also use the website to browse store inventory (although I don't find this incredible reliable....yet). So now you can use this store as the place to pick up one of thousands of things from their site with free shipping. This obviously is meant to tempt you to wander and look. But wait...it gets better. STP fans know that everyday they send out at least one "promo" via Email. Sometimes it is a nice additional discount code. If you are in the store and see something you want, and want it then, you CAN use those codes at the register to save right there. All you have to do is ask and give them the code. I sheepishly asked a few months ago and the salesperson replied, "heck yeah" and it worked. Mind you that some may not work though and some are not helpful (like free shipping). Word has it though that they are going to be phasing out these promos though and focusing more on bottom-line pricing but until they do phase them out you can use 'em at the store. I've gotten some fantastic buys on great gear from great brands (Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear, Berghaus, Rab, Garmont, etc). I've also found great things there that you can't get at other places. They are going to shakeup the local outdoor retail market for sure. read more

Management is terrible. I had spoken with a manager about returning something that was defective without a receipt. She told me she would gladly return it and to come back with the item. I went back and they acted like I had no idea what I was talking about. I would advise not doing business with liars. Wasted a trip going in there. Would of rather not wasted my time if they would originally have told me that it wasn't possible at all. Be truthful! Be good people! It isn't that hard. Yikes. The place was good before they ripped me off. Either don't sell items that do not work or be willing to take responsibility and return the defective items. read more

One star for decent product. Now the bad. Place was a mess. No order, rolling rack thrown out on floor with no rhyme or reason. No one ask to help, but half dozen people "around" trying not to get noticed by customers. And waited forever to check out when store staff outnumbered customers 2 to 1. Two associates that were in over their head at cash register asked for help from the store manager ( short guy brown hair with messenger bag) and couldn't hardly figure it out. Store manager had the balls to say they will be right with you with 4 people at customer service and walked out the front door. Two guys way in the back counter by sun glasses just amusing each other. We waited another 5 minutes. Poor command of the store and worst customer service. I know your a budget shop but show a little professionalism. read more

Fun store to browse and think about adventures. But I have 2 serious complaints. 1. Mens pant size typically start at a 32. I have a 30" waist, so I can't buy any pants at the store. 2. Online only coupons. So I have a 20% off coupon, I can't just go the store and use it. So I end up looking at the store, coming home, buying online using my coupon. Then going back to the store to pick it up. Seriously, just let me use the online coupon at the store and save us both some grief. read more

Worst customer service ever! I went to pick up an online purchase and the employee, Jake, was the rudest person I've ever been around. He clearly has no customer service skills. Ultimately after 20 minutes he said he couldn't find my order. All he gave were excuses not solutions!
