We requested a bid to move a traditional gas FP from middle of our LR room & install a gas unit in corner to gain more usable space on back side of the wall which is our Master BR. An appointment was made to measure & see what the project entailed. Bid was quite fair and we completed our portion of the build out & additional gas piping as required. I stopped by Sierra Home Alternatives because I had some questions about pellet stoves. My wife and I are new to the area and the home we purchased has a pellet stove in it. Austin hooked us up with a EPA approved 77.1% efficient Lopi Evergreen wood stove to replace the old Volgelzang log eating stove that was in the home. We've had a couple cold days since the install and are totally blown away at the efficiency of this new stove. Before we would pile on 2-3 18" logs every hour in the old stove which needed a floor fan next to it to disperse the heat. With this new Lopi Evergreen, 5-6 18" logs in the morning and we are good for 10-12 hours! We had an old Vermont Castings from 1977 that sat out 4 1/2 feet on a hearth in the middle of our kitchen and wanted to swap it out for a more efficient and cleaner burning, zero clearance fireplace. After a ton of research, we identified the model that would work for our space constraints. We were so worried about product availability with supply chain issues and cargo ships stuck sideway in the Suez Canal and 50 ships parked off the coast of Caifornia, that we decided to go with a local company to purchase and install the new fireplace instead of doing it ourselves. Long story short, the local company (I'm giving you side-eye right now, Sierra Timberline) completely dropped the ball and cancelled our install twice because they did not secure the fireplace or chimney even after their assurances and a $2,500 deposit. California was hit with a Storm-a-geddon and we had an open chimney into our home, with our primary heat source removed because the last company assured us we were locked and loaded. I called Sierra Home Alternatives in a panic and reached Casey. He was so knowledgeable, patient, efficient and effective. He knew the EXACT model I was looking for, he actually had a unit sitting in his store with all of the needed add-on's such as the external air kit and blower kit. My wife called to get our fireplace serviced and the lady told her she had an outstanding debt and there was a history on her account. 1st my wife found the receipt with our credit card number on it and proved that we tried to pay. I had already selected a wood burning fireplace for my home to replace the builders gas fireplace (I know most people want gas, I'm the odd person out I guess) I had already spent a few months visiting other fireplace dealers in the area to either be dismissed probably because they did not want to install what I wanted, or that they just did not have a product to fit my small space. As luck would have it I found (through a different contractor) just the perfect unit for my application - the LADERA - only to find out at the last minute that the first contractor I selected could no longer get it. I still wanted the Ladera, got online with the vendor and found Sierra Home Alternatives listed as a Ladera dealer. I made the call on a Saturday to find that Sierra Home Alternatives sold the same one and actually had a brand new unit in stock! After meeting with them they patiently addressed all of my concerns and I signed the paperwork and left my deposit. Later that week they sent out Brian Waters, their licensed contractor to quote/do the job. He installed my unit (which was an involved build as we had to remove the existing unit and reframe and add a chimney) on December 14, 15 and 16th, 2015. I have to say I am so very pleased with the outcome of this project. All was done on time, professionally, neatly and on budget. I'm so happy with my new Ladera wood burning fireplace - I still keep trying to find something I dont like and cant! This EPA Approved fireplace is just amazing - no visible smoke at all as the brochure promised and then some. LOL. Brian even handled the rather difficult permit issues with the city of Folsom. I would recommend that if you are shopping you put these folks on your list. My take is Brian and his helper, Chris are very competent general contractors, are a pleasure to work with, really want to make you happy, and who clearly know where their expertise begins and ends and are honest about it! I decided to finish the finish work with my current general contractor due to some difficult crown molding angles and custom tile work (this is to be done this weekend), but honestly I could not be happier. First of all, they don't work with or have a connection with Napoleon dealers for parts or new units and second, if that's the case, why would you send an inexperienced kid out to work on a unit you don't support and can't fix if broken. He said it was an old unit and he had problems trying to get my pilot assembly working right. It fell apart in his hands and not only couldn't he NOT fix it but they wouldn't have the parts to replace what he broke.
